CELEBRATING MY BIRTHDAY MONTH IN THE CITY OF LOVE: PARIS!

CELEBRATING MY BIRTHDAY MONTH IN THE CITY OF LOVE: PARIS!
I am 37, work hard, love fashion but I can't afford luxury. Last year I found out about kislux where I bought a real leather Fendigraphy for about ?50 (more than I usually spend)... I love it so much and it makes me feel good... I don't show off it's fake but anyone who knows me and knows the prices of Fendi knows it's not real... Maybe one day I will own a real Fendigraphy but for me I am happy with my fudge
It may be a rainy day there for you but I love your little Terrace View from your apartment I plan on coming back to Nice later this year I live in Illinois I'm planning on retiring in France possibly Nice which I visited once before...I'm in Paris early April. Will be spending a day or two with 'Janice in France'. Hope to meet you on my next trip. I will be in touch.
Next to the Monoprix too! All good in that hood.
love the protest chalk! My future home, I hope!!
Do you have any thoughts on medical concierge services in France (not for bio identical hormones, just a service to make the medical care process smoother and faster, like getting appointments, etc)? Great video!
I'm not aware of any. It's not needed. It can't be any easier to book an appointment with a doctor on Doctolib. Go take a look at Doctolib.com and search for doctors and see for yourself. There is no scarcity of doctors unless it's some unusual type of specialist. We have never had any issues making doctor's appts even before we were living here. And if you need a specialist, you need a referral from your GP (they will give you a paper introducing you and they'll even tell you which doctors to contact). Everything runs very very smoothly and we can usually get an appt either in person on by video, the same day, if we really want it ---or the next day, whenever! Very impressive system, at least here in Nice.
Thank you! I had read about the advantages of this kind of service in Portugal, but of course it's a different country with a different system so I wasn't sure.
I love these two, I am an American who lives in this wonderful neighborhood they showcased in this episode- le port/ place Garibaldi. This neighborhood/ area is really enjoyable. I have to admit, the video to be incredibly awkward/ bizarre though. These two are typically charismatic and talkative. To be on this silent city walk is nice but has a peculiar vibe. You never see vids of Riqiuer, where they are for a portion of the vid., which is also nice to see. Keep up the great work, you two!
Appreciate the comments. Surprising, to us, that when we have done these fairly quiet walks, with little or no conversation, we get thousands of views, far more than when we are chatty. I guess some people would rather just "walk" and not talk. Thanks again. We appreciate you!
OMG...I wonder what you actually took? Is there a follow up video? LOL This made me laugh..especially the speeded up parts with the perfect music! You are a comedian!
Yes, there are many videos since this one.
This was a great video! And I LOVED hearing the ambient sounds instead of background music! They give a real flavor of what Nice is like. This kind of walking video can be so useful for people trying to decide which area in Nice to move to. It would also be great to see videos of walks through residential areas like Carre d'Or, to see where everyday things like grocery stores, pharmacies, etc. are, that people, especially retirees like yourselves (and me) could go to without needing a car. Merci!
We have done several videos in the last 10 months showing some other areas closer & how to find some key places. Just a couple of weeks ago we did a video on a great grocery store just off a tram stop. Everything in Nice is easily accessible by walking, trams or buses. We live in central Nice. Nothing we need day to day is more than a 15 min walk or tram ride away. We will keep sharing our walks as time permits. Check out our past videos and keep watching for future videos 😊
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears Thanks! And congrats for making the leap!
EVERYTHING LOOKS YUMMY!!!!MUCH LOVE TO YOU ALL, AND LOTS OF PETS FOR BELLA TOO!!!!
nice distraction from the horrific news here:( Musk gaining access to OUR treasury..social security...time to write to representatives.
Yes, we follow the news from the USA. It is frightening. 😡
You were but steps away from me!
We are using our cellphones to pay with money from WISE accounts. It is accepted and works everywhere. For BNP Paribas, if you are renting Airbnb, you need to ask your host to sign the form downloaded from the bank website, the "attestation d'hébergement" + all the other documents (translated from English to French, a certified translation). Then you wait for the interview. A week later after the interview (all in French!) we got our online account but we are still waiting for our ATM cards. Yes, our interview was in French, as here, in South-West of France, people rarely speak English.
Winter at the French Riviera always looks amazing🌅🌅🌅
Good morning. The walk video was very refreshing. Looking forward to visit Nice one day. Thank you!
Please tell those losers that elon's bowl moments alone have done more good for humanity than they And all their descendants combined will ever do.
Bonjour An and Jeff! I really enjoyed this walk this morning. As I explore which neighborhoods I may want to live in when I retire to Nice, I have the Garibaldi and Riquier neighborhoods on my list for my next visit.
So helpful! Merci❤
Hello! I’m coming to Nice in March! So happy to find your videos. I’m working my way through them. Retired RN thinking of moving there. ❤️
I'm watching this as I get rid of old paperwork, decide, do I need to keep this etc. I did sign up for wise but did not get a card, so I better get that done too..thanks for the reminder! You did this video a year ago..and it truly is so very helpful. I am looking forward to seeing you in Nice. Hope no flooding your way!
LOL going through this now...I understand your frustration. I am thinking to just donate it all and taking the tax write off...LOL You are way beyond this now so I know this too shall pass!
We donated many thousands of dollars of stuff. Everytime we dropped stuff off, it was a "carload" of stuff. The place where we dropped it off gave us dated and signed blank receipts where we had to list every single thing we donated and assign a value of the item at the time of donation. I have a folder, about 1" thick, just filled with these receipts. We didn't have a lot of earned income last year. My husband only worked for a couple of months before he retired. And I've been retired for years. So he probably won't have any business expenses. You can only deduct those expenses if you have a lot of taxable income, enough to do the long version of your tax return. When we do our tax return in the next month or 2 I'll be able to see if those receipts will do us any good at all. If all you have is social security and pension and a small amount of passive income, you may not be able to do the long version of the tax return. Also, it's easy to say you'll just donate it all. We originally planned to just move with clothes, shoes, jewelry, and some expensive treasures we have collected over the years. Once you start purging and packing and thinking about what things you don't want to live without and how much it will cost to replace that good crystal and the Alclad cookware and sheets and towels, (these things are very expensive here), you start packing boxes because it becomes more cost efficient in the long run to ship them, then donate them and have to pay a fortune to repurchase things. We stuck to medium sized boxes but ended up with 62 boxes (packed lightly with a lot of bubble wrap). And our move was considered a "small" move, by mover's standards.
Well, I did not want to be too specific but your facial features appear to be more defined now. That could certainly be the light along with more rest and happiness!😊
The difference in medical care, cost, and efficiency between the US and France is glaring.
Thank you for your content Ana, stay healthy
It's "An" and you're welcome!
Merci An, As I review this video from "way back when" it brought up a question that you know about now that you may not have known when you did this video. I plan on moving my art work. What is your experience of this? Did customs hold your art? I have some original paintings from a friend who died and no certificates??? Have other art I love that was given to me etc. How will I deal with these please?
We had several pieces that I had purchased from galleries, over the years, that we brought along with us. We didn't have any problems. I wrapped all of the framed art, an art piece done in Murano glass, and another metal and glass art piece, as well as a piece I had purchased in Mexico, in lots of bubblewrap and packed them in boxes also cushioned with more bubble wrap to keep them secure. I labeled the outside of the boxes "framed pictures" or "tabletop items for living room", and specifically NOT "art". I didn't want to call a lot of attention to the pieces, because I didn't have receipts for some of them, since they were purchased a lot of years ago, (with a prior husband). I also have one very large framed picture, actually a now collectible vintage poster, that is worth a lot of money. I had the movers pack that for me, to keep it from getting damaged and did not tell them it was worth any specific amount of money. So I didn't want customs to think they were of "great value", although a few are valued in the thousands of dollars, but not huge huge money. We have a well known artist friend, that often comes to France to paint, en plein aire, either on commission by clients or just to add to his galleries in Florida and St. Maartin. He shared with us his experience trying to get his own paintings into the US, from France, and the steps he has had to go through to get them through, trying to keep the costs as low as possible. He has incurred a bunch of fees/duties-- on his own works of art. He would have to wait for the paintings to dry and then roll them into tubes to bring them back. Some he has had to bring back flat. But he has had the problem walking them through customs in the US, not here in France. We sent all of our stuff with an international mover who did an inventory based on what was handwritten on the outside of the boxes. That mover picked up all of our boxes and put them in a container with around 14 of their other client's shipments, all going to Europe. They shipped to Rotterdam, instead of France, because they felt it was easier to get things through Customs in Rotterdam, than France. And then they trucked our shipment to us here in France. It didn't appear that any of the boxes were even opened. When we purchased insurance for the shipment, the mover told us to give them a figure we wanted to insure the entire shipment for. We bought a policy that covered all or nothing, meaning, we would only be able to file a claim if the entire shipment was lost or damaged. And THEN we would have to provide documentation of what we lost for the insurance claim. They also suggested that we keep values low and call everything "used household" items, on the boxes, so that customs doesn't see anything that raises flags and because when you relocate your entire home/domicile to another country, you don't have to pay duties on most of your used household goods entering the EU. So, the bottom line is that the mover had no idea what the value of our "art" was and we took the gamble on the fact that chances are it would be fine. We brought anything we deemed irreplaceable or too too expensive to ship, in our suitcases, and hand luggage, like expensive jewelry, designer goods, etc. And on arrival in France, we walked through customs with 6 large suitcases, 3 carry on sized bags, a dog carrier, 2 backpacks, and a little dog and they didn't bother to even notice we were walking through. I haven't been stopped walking through customs since back in the 90's during my first trip to France, returning to the US (not in France). So, if you can carry the things in, in a suitcase, chances are you'll just walk right through. And then you'll have to decide if you want to mark the boxes to attract customs attention or not.
Aloha An, from Maui as I am decluttering...this one of you dreaming of moving to France is giving me yet another push in the right direction! I put in for my Long Term Stay visa and now getting my documents in order for the interview...everyday a step closer...am going to review all of your How tos that I watched last year as my time line says late April...move to France. Merci for all of your sweet advice.
Nice video. But the background music is too loud. Next time, please keep the music low volume. Thank you !
Perhaps you'd be happier if you checked out some of our more recent videos. This video was made over 2 years ago when we were still experimenting with the editing of my videos
@ sorry ! Didn’t realize it’s an old video.
@@AlexIndus Yes, we spent years planning our move to retire in France and made the move, in early 2024 In April we will be here for 1 year. 🤩
@@postcardsfromourgoldenyears wow ! Will watch some more of your videos and subscribe! Will post questions if any ! Thank you !
Hello! I m french, don t worry you will recieve a notification each 2 years to make exams for FREE ,it s call " DÉPISTAGE CANCER "If you want make an exam each year ask a prescription to your usual doctor. Because you are more 65 years, also you will recieve each year a notification to make for FREE a vaccination for covid and influenza.❤❤❤
Yes, we received them this year and went to the pharmacy and got both, but this is good to know for other people who may not be aware. Thank you.
Although expats who come to France for their retirement do pay taxes, they still use healthcare that French people have been contributing to all their lives. So when you come to France at an advanced age, you will be relying on the healthcare heavily because of your age. Also, the prices seem low to Americans because it is a heavily subsidised by the State system.
Thank you for so much useful, detailed information! I support your opinions on utilizing the French health system. Retired expats support the local economy by bringing in and spending money on the economy.
Thank you for so much excellent information An. You’ve given me a lot to consider that I wouldn’t have done on my own. You’re a trailblazer and I’m very grateful ☺️
Thanks for a very informative video. I’m so glad you and Jeff are truly thriving in your Golden Years.
I loved E.Leclerc when I lived in Portugal! I don't arrive in France until later this year so thank you for this lovely reminder. I realized writing this that I was wearing a tee shirt that I bought at LeClerc.
Thanks for the video. It was very informative. My primary doc visit would cost about $250 for less than 1/2 hour if I go for anything other than my annual exam. My insurance covers a small portion, maybe 20% So, I save up everything and make a list of concerns for the annual exam. Also, I have to pay abt $300 for any regular bloodwork (cholesterol, etc) my doc orders during my annual exam. I’m considering skipping the bloodwork becuz I feel pretty good and it makes me angry that the ins. won’t even cover bloodwork for my annual exam
Assuming you mean in the USA
You look so much better than when you were in the US!
Gee thanks! Didn't know I looked so bad when we lived in Florida. Nothing has changed except I switched my ring light to the setting for a golden glow instead of white glow. This is what I have looked like for years 🤩
An, this information is so valuable. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. It really gives me a sense of calm knowing that the health system in France is just as good or maybe even better than here in the US since we are considering retiring there in the future. We are doing a scouting trip there in May in Paris, Nice, and Aix-en-Provence, focusing on the latter two.
Thank you An, doing this now, it wasn't totally clear til I watched your video
Great video, and will help many Americans to be ok with how the health system works
We visited Nice in November…kept our eyes peeled for you, but didn’t see you 😜Watch it on the estrogen…a friend at Johns Hopkins says that they are finally doing research on estrogen in post-menopausal women….not yet published, but she says ‘there are. Estrogen receptors everywhere in womens’ bodies….and that taking estrogen out is the equivalent of taking oil out of a car….Staying on helps prevent dementia, osteoporosis, circulatory issues (stroke/cardiac issues). Is the doctor trying to ‘wean’ your husband off of testosterone? A little sex bias, which has been the problem in women’s health care historically.
The term "estrogen" covers many types of estrogens. Yes, there are estrogen receptors everyone where in women's bodies. Every doctor I have ever had explained that and the important benefits of estrogen, progesterone and testosterone for women (and men). No one is "currently" trying to wean me or my husband off of anything. My doctor casually said that in a year or so, he "may" want to look at the possibility of starting to consider that. As my US doctor told me, doctors in France have access to things the US doctors (even the ones in major research hospitals) may only dream of. My past US doctor, an expert on anti-aging, had spoken at medical conferences here in France, in regard to anti--aging, bhrt, etc And he has listened to other doctors from Europe speak on those subjects and therapies used here, as well. So both that doctor and my current doctor appear to be well informed. For now, I've been cancer free for over 21 years and been using BHRT. I will have to defer to the opinions of the doctors here in France based on their research and knowledge. For now, I'm not losing sleep over a random casual comment the doctor made. Life is too short... and at age 71, I'd like to enjoy every day, stressfree.
Lots of interesting information, An. Thank you!!
Doctolib is great IF there is an office that will do initial visit appointment online! Impossible here for gp. A hurdle that has been a pain. But we're able to make appts for specialists online easily. Seen orthopedic surgeon and podiatrist with ease. GP not so easy. But out of pocket fees have been unbelievable, we feel like they are forgetting something! Most office visits are less than $50. And most amazing thing we learned was that ambulance rides are always free! Wow! So far we have been impressive.
Thank you for this great video. Very informative about the medical and dental costs and your experience. Video was well paced and extremely helpful for those of us moving to France needing to continue Bhrt. Would love the name of your Anti Aging doctor. Looking forward to meeting you two later this Spring.
You'll need to contact me privately at the email address in the details under each of our videos. I don't want to post the doctor's info publicly and have them bombarded with inquiries. Thanks.
I was noticing how beautiful An’s skin looked and wondering what she had been doing. Not that she wasn’t lovely before but now she is glowing.
@@kathleenmathews6096 I'm sure it was the ring light with the "golden glow" that I selected to illuminate me for the video. Usually I use a cooler white light. My skin is my skin. I haven't done anything different to it. Pretty much same products I've been using for years.
I agree that your skin does look great! What products do you use?@@postcardsfromourgoldenyears
This was great information and I’ve subscribed to keep up with your content. Do you have any information on care for macular degeneration? I will need to find a specialist in France but just wondered if you knew anyone there who is dealing with that condition. Thanks so much.
No, I'm sorry I don't. There's a forum on Facebook called "Strictly Santé France". Perhaps if you join that group and post someone will have some experience to share
Thank you very much An. I really appreciate you sharing about bio identical HRT bc I need to continue that when I arrive this year. It really improved my quality of life post hysterectomy. Can you share your doctor’s name? We chatted before on messenger.
You'll need to contact me privately regarding the doctor's info . Use the email address below all of our videos in the details. I don't want to post the doctor's info publicly and have them bombarded with inquiries. I don't know if they are taking new patients.

An, hello from Seattle! Great video again! I am catching up on your videos finally. Two questions. Firstly, you have lovely outfit but it looks rather warm. Is it cool in your apartment? Why? Secondly, do you mind to share contact of the gynecologist doctor whom you saw when she was covering for anti-aging doctor? Thank you very much!
No, it definitely isn't cold in our apartment. Sometimes the heat is too warm. However it is wintertime, here in Nice. So it is typically cold or very chilly outside in the winter. We have been dressing in warm weather clothes since mid September. That means sweaters and long sleeves inside, coats and scarves outside. I had just returned from having lunch with a friend the day I shot the video. However, you won't find us, me in particular, in short sleeves again till the weather warms up in May or June. PM me privately at the email address listed in details under the video fo the doctor info.
An, I’ve been following you and Jeff regularly since before you moved from Florida and I have thoroughly enjoyed your videos of your many escapades in Nice, Paris etc. You have a gift for explaining all the many things expatriates will need to know if planning a move to France. I spent three weeks in Nice and surrounding area a year ago and loved it! You are a lovely couple and I find joy watching you both (and Bella) living your best life and generously sharing it with us. Merci!
The pharmacists also learn about mushrooms and which are healthy and which are poisonous. Which is helpful if you like to forage.
Love hearing all of this information.
I love the French medical system much more than the North American one.
Thanks again for great information. Glad you are enjoying Nice.
