Hi! We are An and Jeff Scott, two happily retired septuagenarians from the USA, who had a dream. That dream was to retire in France. So, we sold most of our “stuff”, packed and shipped the rest, and with our bossy little Yorkie, Bella, said “goodbye” to the USA. We moved from the sunny coast of southwest Florida to the sunny coast of the south of France, to enjoy our “golden years” and embrace the “joie de vivre” available to us, here in beautiful Nice, France.
Moving from the USA to a foreign country was no small “project”. Through our videos, we’ve been taking you through the Long Stay Visa process, the packing, the purging, the moving, searching for an apartment, creating a great Dossier, learning the way things are done administratively in France, and sharing the steps, talking about what we’ve learned and the ups and the downs.
And now, we continue to share our life, our new life, here in Nice, getting settled, adjusting to the “French” way of doing things, dealing with the French “red tape” and all the while, making every wonderful day in Nice, the best day ever…

Enjoyed this video smorgasbord….really love your life in Nice. Bella is too cute, no words. ❤❤❤
Lovely.
More new food places for us thanks to you :) I enjoyed the luminescent lights at the church. I love lights / holiday lights in general. By the way, I’ve seen my mom eat crisp persimmons just like an apple. She seems to enjoy it every time. I have yet to try them 😊
You two really get around! Looks wonderful, and can hardly wait to try that ginormous croissant.
Nice video, thanks for sharing!
;) heh, had to!
"There's nothing like this" 😂
Philip Tayac is the Cedric Grolet (very famous pastry chef from Paris, now also in St Tropez) of Nice. It's more expensive than other bakeries in Nice.
Hmm, I’ve noticed that red car before. Is this something new? Looks like he is having his own party..😂
Oh, you guys ate on the 2nd floor at Le Grand Cafe? The other floors weren’t open yet during our last visit. We only had cocktails and fries outside. Thanks for showing us your dining experience at the restaurant. I was curious about your food experience there.
Wow, 60 people attended Adrian’s Thanksgiving dinner. Sounds like it was pretty fun.
Thank you so very much!! Yes, it was closer to 65 ppl for Thanksgiving and they had a huge waiting list. Next year they hope to find a larger venue❤️😍🎄⚘️
Thanks!
Thank you so very much! 🎅❤️🎄
Lovely video. I really enjoy partaking in your daily life in Nice. It is so interesting to see how different life is there comparing to life here in Florida. Merry Christmas to you both and Bella!
Thank you. To you as well! 🎄🎅
You guys are just so cute!
And I noticed that when you eat out, you usually get pretty healthy food. Including, a bottle of Badoit!
No other sparkling water is like Badoit. The bubbles are so small. It’s my favorite drink and I can’t get it here in California😢
Yes, we do try to eat healthy. While we love having wine here in France, we are trying to at least maintain our weight, if not lose a few pounds. More often then not we order sparkling water.
That color is VERY PRETTY on you AN!!!!!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS and sending love from Florida!!!!!!
PETS for Bella!!!!
Try boiling persimmons in water with some sugar to make persimmon jam. You can also add other spices or herbs to create your own flavor combination. Be sure to remove the skin and core before cooking so it doesn't get bitter.
We totally enjoy your videos!…hoping to get to Nice this coming year, its looks so lovely& fun!!
merci from hawaii i follow as u give me inspiration , that someday , one day me too
There are 2 varieties of persimmons. Crunchy and soft. You’ve bought the soft ones. And, you’re not supposed to eat the peel. Asian people also eat them dried.
Been considering using Adrian Leeds. Did you and Jeff?
Yes, we did! Very pleased with them. We definitely recommend them in this tough rental market. 👌
Hello, I just started watching your channel. Did you use the Adrien Leeds group to find your apartment? How was your experience. We had our consultation in October. We are coming to France for two weeks in January. We will be spending four days in Paris, six days in Nice and three days in Toulouse. Hopefully making the move from USA in April 2025.
Yes, we did use Adrian Leeds Group. We met with Adrian over a year ago, for our April move. We asked them to find us our apartment before our own April move. So as soon as we applied for our long stay visas and scheduled our in person apt at VFS, we sent over our Dossier and Garantme pre-qualification and worked with her colleague, Kathy, who quickly found us a number of available Apts. We chose 2, did video walkthru's on both, with her, in real time, so we could ask questions while she was at each place. We picked the first one we saw, did a zoom meeting with the owner, and signed the lease within 2 weeks, 1 1/2 months before we actually got here. We knew there is/was a rental shortage and are very glad we were able to find something ahead of our move. We are very happy with our experience with Adrian Leeds Group. 😊
@ I’m confused as to what address do we use for the Long Stay Visa application if we do not have an apartment in France yet? We are in the process of the application but have come to a snag about French address. Do we book a temporary VRBO and use that address?
@JacquelineHart-z1q You have to book and pay for at least 3 mos worth of accommodations here in France. If you use Airbnb Most owners will provide you with a document you'll need to submit to prove you have booked and paid for the Airbnb. I don't know what VRBO provides. The owner will need to provide some kind of letter validated at their town hall/Mairie that says you will be staying in their home. We had provided a copy of a 3 month rental agreement for an apartment, the certificate the owner validated at the Mairie and a copy of the owner's Passport. Basically France wants to see that you booked and paid for a place to live for at least your first 3 months when you arrive in France. And you'll need to make sure that you'll be able to receive mail at that place (some Airbnb or VRBO owner's won't give you access to their mailbox). You need to be able to receive documents from France once you arrive in France and validate your Visa. Your request to go to your mandatory medical meeting at OFII (comes by mail, often). They send it sometime within your 1st three months. We received ours almost 3 months after we arrived. They also send a reminder by mail. So it needs to be an address where you can receive mail. You will be able to go into the system and change the address if you find a permanent place to live, but initially you need to book and pay for accommodations.
@ You have been so helpful. Merci bien. One more question, could you recommend a nice Airbnb? Did you actually stay in the Airbnb for 3 months or were you able to cancel when you moved into your apartment?
I’m sorry for being such a pest.
@@JacquelineHart-z1qNo, the available Airbnb's change from time to time. When I need an Airbnb I search according to what things I need in an Airbnb (lift, washer, dryer, hairdryer, pet friendly etc)and I read reviews. I only book Airbnb's with great reviews. Then put in your dates and see who is offering a discount for multiple months. You're going to have to message them and ask questions (will you have access to their mailbox? If you find a permanent place to rent before the three months is up, will they let you out of the agreement early? Will there be a penalty? Are they near public transportation? ETC). We contracted with Adrian Leeds Group before we moved to France, while we were still in the US. Because of our contract they provided us with an address, in Nice, to use and all necessary paperwork for our Visa.We asked them to start searching for our apartment after we applied for our Visa, 2 months before we arrived in France. They found us an apartment and we signed the lease within 2wks.all from the US. We only wanted to move once. So we already had our apartment here before our actual move. So we never had to stay anywhere temporarily while looking.
May I ask how much chestnut are. Here in NJ I’m paying 8.99 a pound. I love roasted chestnuts.
I don't know. I haven't purchased any in many years. We never bought them in Florida, where we lived for many years before we moved to France. I saw some at the market recently, but they were not roasting them there. We used to buy them when I lived in NJ, many years ago, and roast them in our fireplace. We never worried about the price back then. It was a nice little treat we did in the wintertime. $8.99 doesn't sound bad. I probably wouldn't buy them here. We don't have a fireplace to roast them in. 😉
Do you walk or drive to these places? Markets, shows, restaurants, etc.
We walk or take the tram. We sold our cars in the US and are happier without one. We rent one only if we are going somewhere that has no public transportation to get around. Everything in most of our videos is under 15 minutes walk away--except Italy. We take the train to Italy 😍
I’m jealous. An
Bella is eating more crepes than you. She is adorable
Butter from Normandie?
Made with gmo Milk from the gmo corn féd cows
This is NOT TRUE. The butter we purchase is from a small cooperative called Isigny Sainte-Mère, near Sainte-Mère-Église in Normandie. Here is the statement from their website (www.isigny-ste-mere.com/en/our-cooperative/) - "All the Cooperative’s farms produce GMO-free milk, which means that no GMO feed is used for our dairy cows."
Restaurant would be better without the awful music.
We don't actually go to or judge restaurants by their music. We are "foodies". It's all about the food. 99% of the time we don't hear the music. We aren't even sure what restaurant music you're referring to. 🤔
@postcardsfromourgoldenyears Well each to his own. Personally it would bother me.
