A caution regarding essential oils & plastics. Essential oils are natural solvents, which break plastics down, releasing toxins into your product. So for this particular formulation, no metal or plastic should be used in making or storing this product. See other comments regarding the effect metal bowls spoons can have on bentonite.
These are important details to know when formulating products which we think are non toxic just because we use natural ingredients. Technique, research, willingness to continuously learn & proper tools are also absolutely essential.

I never used anything metal to mix clay. It makes the clay less effective

I have lived in 4 regions (rural and urban) of Thailand, part of Southeast Asia, for about 12 years, and I tell ya, I've never seen anyone walk around chewing this stuff, and, there are LOTS of dentists available, everywhere. Maybe some decades ago, both of your comments were true, but at least in this country in SE Asia, at this time ... nope. Your recipe sounds good, and I understand that Neem has lots of great properties for teeth, and many Thais do realize it has properties that make it good for our health :)

Thank you. Why don't you store it in a glass jar? The clay is strong and the toothpaste will taste like plastic overtime.

You can purchase a wooden spoon or plastic spoon or forks from your local supermarket.

daughterofzion Ysrayl excuse my ignorance but I still don't understand the problem with using a metal spoon. I'm definitely not buying any plastic Cutlery. From time to time I use rubber spatulas.

      This is why:
Bentonite is very unusual in the fact that once it becomes hydrated, the electrical and molecular components of the clay rapidly change and produce an “electrical charge”… When it becomes mixed with water it rapidly swells open like a highly porous sponge. From here the toxins are drawn into the sponge through electrical attraction and once there, they are bound.
It is for this reason that bentonite clay should never be stored in a metal container or stirred with a metal spoon since the clay absorbs the metals and becomes less effective.
A good quality bentonite clay is grey or cream in color, and white bentonite clays should be avoided (since they are likely not actually bentonite). It is very fine, has a velvet feel, is odorless and non-staining.
