I’ve enjoyed the power of Azula’s tragedy. She was by the fire nation’s standards the perfect solider, leader, and ruler….and it completely destroyed her and her life. She’s the symbol of how unsustainable that sort of society is.
Maybe the whole her two closest friends betraying her ha something to do with that. Again, what did she do to piss them off? "I was mommy's little monster, and I hated she loved all his weakness while fearing my strengths." Man that line hits so hard. It's ironic really. This is so poetic. I love it. With that said, i don't think Iroh could have been a safety net for Azula. If he was Azula's morality pet instead of Zuko's, Azula would've given him a Zuko scar in both of his eyes.

Something I noticed and quite like is how when Azula talks her feelings towards Ozai and Ursa she uses past tense for Ozai, "I adored him", and present for Ursa "I hate that she loved all his weakness while fearing my strength." It suggests she either she perhaps lost or grew out of her adoration for her father, whereas for Ursa she's still jealous of the love and attention Ursa gave to Zuko.
I was wondering whether or not this was an AU until it got to the end. THAT was one of the best "It was all a dream/daydream/hallucination" twists I've seen!
its hinted she was always bit psychotic while zuka wasnt so in fact both she always meant to be some kind of bad person but ozai's intervention amde her worse
I love the symbolism (Don't know if symbolism is the right word, I mess up my words a lot.) of Mai's right eye being burnt, opposite of Zuko's burnt left eye, and then Ty Lee's mouth all burnt, ruining her beauty, her pride. Beautiful display.
Cabbage man: THATS IT IF MORE PPL DESTROY MY CABBAGES I WILL DO 1 PUSHUP *6 minutes later* Me: what the hell happened!? Cabbage guy: i became buff thats what happened
I LOVE this song and animatic! It fits her so well! Lets also remember... this girl is FOURTEEN YEARS OLD and has been through so much internal hell that she lost her mind by the end of the series. That fact makes the song even more tragic for me. A fourteen year old girl going through so much internal torture that she completely lost her mind.
@@gabrielaanampaguzman7756 I actually looked it up before commenting... Zuko is 16, Azula is 14. By the end of the series she's still 14. Either way, she's still a mentally tortured teenager 😓
I like Azula, but I'm not gonna lie. She was more of the monster than a victim, I get she was made that way by her surroundings and her father but it doesn't erase the fact this chick probably had a body count as high as Ba Sing Sae. If the show wasn't restrained by censorship I guarantee they'd show her killing people. She wasn't phased as a child hearing how own cousin had been murdered and called Iroh a bitch for crying about it. Even her other family members were like bro what is wrong with you? She's 100 percent a psychopath, but her Dad and her settings made it worse
I think some fans forget she’s 14 cause she looks like she could be 16 even 17 in the cartoon I do love that the Netflix adaptation shows her age through the actress playing her
A song worthy of the Princess of the Fire Nation. Her flame burns with the blue spark of the Phoenix Queen. Now, bow to the Princess of the Fire Nation!
I think Azula is the most unhappy character in the Avatar universe. As a child, she faced emotional neglect from her mother and psychological abuse from her father, was then rejected by her friends and father, defeated by a brother she was taught to consider "weak," and then went crazy and spent a year locked up in an asylum. Then she finds out that her mother has got herself a new daughter. Imagine how Azula felt then? And after everything, she is still absolutely alone and cannot accept help because of her traumas and her thinking, perverted by her cruel father. And this is all in childhood/adolescence, when the personality is still unstable This is the saddest story in this cartoon universe. The second - in my opinion, are the stories of Amon and Tarrlok and Lin Beifong.
I think the emotional neglect from Ursa came mostly from Ozai constantly undermining her parenting by lovebombing Azula. Ursa loved both of her children, but Zuko had the privilege of not being the golden child so Ozai couldn’t have cared less about instilling his ‘values’ in him.
@@teacoon6399 And in this Zuko was very lucky. He was "rejected" from the point of view of Ozai and Azulon, who wanted an incredibly strong heir from Ozai's marriage to Roku's granddaughter. Azula was more suited to this role as a prodigy and therefore was more damaged. It cannot be said for sure that Azula was deliberately protected from Ursa's influence, but it was obviously less, since Ursa saw in Azula the successfully achieved goal of her forced marriage with Ozai, and probably because of this was colder towards her than with Zuko, who was a "loser" according to the philosophy of the royal family.
@@ЧеловеквпиджакеZuko was lucky in that regard, but it doesn't mean Ursa emotionally neglected Azula. That sort of thing has to be deliberate, and it wasn't. No matter how Azula felt about it, being unable to influence or basically raise your child because of outside influence isn't the same thing as ignoring or neglecting them. Ursa did what she could
I will always believe that Azula's mom didn't see her as a monster, but knew how young she was to firebend, that her father would use her as a tool and was scared for her. I will agree that Ursa should've loved her children equally and should've protected both of them. If anyone wants to extend this into a thread I'm opened to it. I'll pay for it later.
In my opinion usar try to love her kids azul was to far gone when iroh son die she did not feel bad about him dying yes I do think she should had try harder but what was she meant to do she was trapped
It wasn’t more into ursa loving zuko more than azula but more ursa saw zuko needing more attention than azula, yea ozai was no loving person but he wasn’t as harsh on her as he was on zuko so it made ursa felt that azula was at a better position than zuko in terms of emotional trauma, azula still needed more loving from ursa but circumstances gave ursa some fair reasons for her choices
@@rafiqalim It was never shown in the show but who's to say Ozai didn't train her just as hard? or harder even. I mean c'mon realistically who else would she have learned to fight from? And we have seen how Ozai is with power. He most defintely took advantage of her early power. She was a gifted child and was probably pushed to do better by him. Also she didn't even seem very phased hearing about how he fought with her brother. Her scars may not be shown on her face but i know damn well she most definitly has scars from him. Just look at her in the show, she led damn warriors. She was considered one of the best soldiers even. She's 14 This is just how i interperted her behaviour during the show. I believe her mother could of done a little bit better.Knowing her circumstances i dont blame her at all tho, it just irked me how she could be like that with zuko but not azula. Also personally i like Uncle Iroh but honestly... He could have done so much more. If he had patience with her like he did with Zuko and didn't treat her like a monster from the day he met her. She would have definetly turned out differently. Sorry for the rant
@@lamultishipper9530 No one actually treated Azula as a monster. It seems more that it was the only way she could interpret Ursa’s scolding of her with Ozai clearly taking the lead in parenting her as well as his way of doing things essentially being the same as the Fire Nation’s way of doing things. As a general and, even more so, not her father or someone with authority over her father, there really isn’t anything Iroh could have done that wouldn’t require upsetting the ‘balance’ so to speak and probably lead to a catastrophic civil war given this is an absolute monarchy. It’s not in Ozai’s character for him to have allowed any “weak” influences to ‘corrupt’ his supremely better child and likelier heir. Iroh probably would’ve had to fight Ozai and dethrone him as Fire Lord.
Definitely my fave line "I was mommy's little monster, and I hated she loved all his weakness while fearing my strengths. Being daddy's little princess I adored him but what kind of ruler would fail at the end."
I freaking ADORE the illustrations, her bright glowing eyes, the contrasting reds and blues- the lyrics full of lore and emotion. Like its so freaking good! Thank you for this absolute master piece of a song for the fandom!
I absolutely love how the line "Being daddy's little princess, I adored him, but what kind of ruler would fail at the end?" can be interpreted both how Ozai failed to conquer the 4 nations and rule over the world, and how Ozai failed to raise his own children, making both of them growing up to become deeply traumatized people, even though Zuko ended up finding friends and having his mother and his uncle to back him up throughout his life, he was still very much scarred (quite literally) by his father's actions. While Azula never had anyone but herself to count on, and in her and her Father's mind, it was all she needed, until it no longer was.
We also see that despite knowing that she was like her father she was still a child that wanted her mother's love but was blinded by her jealousy of zuko seemingly being only one loved by their mother and feared by her to truely realise that ursa did love her and ozai never did since he only saw her as a weapon to use in the war since she was a prodigy and at the end of said war her mind fell apart and was locked up in a mental asylum where she could only day dream of ruling the world, that is until zuko enlists her help to find their mother.
My 2nd comment: Wait a second I just realized. They say a Phoenix is born when their parents die and rise from their ashes. The lyrics “Watch me rise of his ashes. As the Phoenix queen I will fly” actually has a meaning. Really smart choice Milkky!
Ngl, I kinda wanna see a version of this song for Zuko set during his exile because it is awesome. It so expertly exemplifies Azula's fractured psyche. The bit with the family perfectly shows how all she ever wanted was for her family to love her
When I first watched Atlab I didn’t expect anything of it but after I seen azula and her ferocity how she used fear to get people in order and take what she wanted my love for her character grew stronger and when I seen her after Agni Kai I cried
I like how despite Azula having this one desire to rule, it will eventually fail because there will be nothing left. And that won't be enough to feed her desire of love. Nothing will feed her distant crave for her mother's affections... Because her mother sees her as a monster.
The thing that broke her delusion of what could have been was an imagined happy family; something she never had as a kid and would never have as an adult.
An amazing song! Happy late anniversary to Avatar! I actually MET Dante Basco, the voice of Zuko once at a convention. Nice guy and a great actor. This song TOTALLY fits Azula and it shows her downfall from Fire Nation prodigy and next in line, to a mad woman, consumed by hatred and self doubt that led to her being locked up (at least til she escaped, of course) and only having these images of "what could have been" to keep her happy.
Ok I found this about a week ago and I actually am not exaddurating when I say I’ve watched this like 40 times, and listened to it even more. Literally just everything about it is perfect like the song is fire (HA HA GET IT!…I’ll stop now) , the singing is amazing, the story of it totally fits with azula, and the visuals look INCREDIBLE. Every part of it is just super cool :)
Great song. Would love to see Azula in her own series one day. Maybe she's in her 20s, redeemed, and protects the fire nation as its 007. Azula leading fire nation black ops would be awesome.
Honestly, I believe Azula would’ve been one of the greatest heroes, if not, for her father‘s manipulation, and her mother’s fear of her power and passive neglect
This is amazing, I absolutely love how you drew every scene and it’s exciting and interesting to see Azula winning although its just imaginations because not (or none) other animatics of Azula depicts these kinds of fantasies about her. I love Azula as a villain and character, would’ve loved to see her annihilating conquering everything in her path. Both the song and the animatic is a masterpiece, so well created and drawn ❤❤😭
Honestly I always imagined if Ozai came home victorious he’d return to a daughter who would be crazy enough to decide to kill Ozai if he decided not to validate her. We already see in the finale how she’s starting to resent her father for doubting her strength and even has visions of her mom saying she loved Azula meaning Azula may be re-evaluating how genuine her father’s love was if she has to seek it in other sources. And frankly as powerful as Ozai is I think Azula is more powerful, and if his manipulation looses his effect on a mentally unstable teenager who’s questioning his value to her then it might not be good for Ozai
I’ve always had this thought in my head “what if instead of killing the Airbenders Azulon killed all the adults and raised the air bender children in the fire nation basically what if Aang was raised in the fire nation” I’d love to see an animatic song to that concept
i enjoy the thought of the gang defeating Ozai yet Azula stays strong and continues the fight. Would've lead to an amazing plot similar to how the end of Season 2 was. Anyways, amazing song and I really love the animatics
I honestly love this so much, not only for the fire ass music and beautiful artwork but it tells what goes on in her mind. Azula was obviously a gifted child, the fire nation's prodigy. Everyone saw so much potential in her, especially her father. Her self esteem is obviously high due to this fact, and not to mention her being better than the first born so (aka Zuko). She feels powerful and in control, learning from her father that the best way to lead is to be feared and controlling. Unlike Zuko, she didn't learn how to sympathize. Zuko had Uncle Iroh and of course their mother Ursla. Azula was raised by a bad person, learning the ways of harming people. Uncle Iroh probably had tried to help Azula, but it might have been too late for her as she was influenced already. Ursla probably did not mean to make Azula feel left out or make her feel like Ursla favored Zuko more. In other words. Now, Azula had two best friends obviously. Mei and Ty Lee. I believe that they all did share some what of the same opinion as her when they were younger. However the reason Mei and Ty Lee did not turn like Azula is because both were shown some kind of freedom. Mei fell in love with Zuko, and Ty Lee found her place in a circus. Azula has no where to turn to besides the tyranny of the fire nation. She's really unable to express anything but violence because thats all she was taught, anything else that doesn't have any kind of manipulation or violence is so foreign to her, so she covers her trauma with even more violence. To prove this, at 1:47 when she talks about how her two friends could have rule with her, they chose not to. She's obviously hurt, upset that one of her friends also choose Zuko over her. Her way of coping with this is making them fear her, forcing them to fight her. Leaving scars on them. The left eye scar to match Zuko and a mouth scar for Ty Lee as Ty lee enjoyed talking to others. A good comparison showing Azula's cope is at 0:33 and 3:00. At first, (0:33) She talks confidentially as if she literally does not care about her mother's opinion, talking about how her mother viewed her nothing more than a monster, a copy of her father. As her father truly saw so much in Azula, and Azula not having anyone else who could help her lead her into a better light, followed his path. But at 3:00, when she repeats her trauma, its more sadder, maybe even a bit afraid. She sounds more upset and jealous of Zuko, who had people to support him. When Azula speaks about her father, she looks like she is debating if this is the right pathway, probably understanding what she's doing is bad, mad, villainous. But with no one to support her, and being raised as a "villain" she continues to follow her father's steps, even trying to surpass him. Calling her the Phoenix Queen really suits her as well, not only does it mean triumphing over adversity, it also represents trauma such as abuse. Although she did not suffer any kind of physical abuse, she clearly suffered much mental suffering. Not many people really talk about this, but Azula and Zuko are the flipped coins of being royals to the fire nation, Zuko was truly lucky to have people to support him, even through his worst. The only true reason he was able to be better than Azula was due to the fact that others taught him at a young age, aka Ursla. Now, not saying he did not suffer any sort of abuse. He suffered through both physical (Eye Scar) and mental abuse. But he was able to be comforted afterwards, to find peace with others. Azula on the other hand doesn't have that kind of luck. She's worked hard her whole life without anyone good to support her besides her father who probably just wanted to use her. She's mad at Zuko for getting all this "special" treatment by everyone when he doesn't work or show any good progress as her. Everyone around her assumes she does not feel anything, but the truth is that her rage really represents her emotions in general. She's mad at the world for giving her this unfair treatment, confused at why she failed. She worked hard for her place, she's the best fighter in the fire nation, she's feared by everyone, she can control almost anyone, so why does she loose at the end? Why is she the one mentally neglected, being put as the villain? Yes it is true she was her father's favorite, but she wanted to be loved and supported just like Zuko. Remember that she was a child when she began seeing the difference being adored and being supported. She can't handle all of this and suddenly snaps, becoming insane.
Honestly, for being one of my favorite villians, this song makes we actually feel sorry for her. Really goes to show how maybe if her mother had shown her some real love, maybe things would have turned out better. Then they do say that a child rejected by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth
@@Meela9088 i dont see her evil or rotten to the core. far from it actually, she only did everything because it was her duty and its a war. She deserves as much as Zuko. Redemption is always possible. Though of course its another thing when i say that i’d really love to see Azula rise as phoenix queen and annihilate anyone in her path.
there was a debate i remember reading if you goto baby hitler should you leave him alone or unalive him? and some responded should heroic kidnap him so can grow into a good person? have kids ever been kidnapped for LOVING and good reasons instead EVIL?
While Ursa may have been able to try harder, Ozai quickly undid any work she'd do in trying to teach Azula how to be a better person. Azula was his golden child and he kept her close.
This is a good song! That plot twist legitimately caught me off guard! Reminds me of animatics of this song “The ballad of Sara berry.” “Into a tight straitjacket, small padded cell” “Screaming, "I'm the queen of high school land!" She’s the Phoenix Queen, at least in her head.. (Poor cabbage guy can’t catch a break 😂)
Azula is still my favorite ATLA character. And I am in LOVE with this song. A new loop song for real.. but not only is the animation amazing, I love the vocal work! The small tone changes in parts of the song just make everything fit together so well! And I love how this captures a large part of Azula's psyche. And I really am glad someone finally used that phoenix armor concept art!! Seriously super excited to see it in action! I love how this song does not exactly reflect the "real world" but rather the ideal world that Azula wants and is attempting to create through her actions. I am really digging how she views her father's "failure". Lovely work, you already gained my sub just a few weeks ago but this really.. seals the deal for me! I am looking forward to more work, I love your villain stuff! A new addiction.
This is AMAZING!! The song and the lyrics flow so smoothly while creatively reflecting Azula’s thoughts and character!! I love the defeated and sorrowful reprise of the triumphant chorus from the beginning, it’s beautifully executed!! 💕💕
I love your songs. Especially the alternate universe songs. Perhaps you can make an alternate universe song about the owl house or Amphibia one day. Maybe an Anne Bounchoy or Luz Noceda villain song? Just saying.
This was so good!!! 🙌 I especially loved the line about Ursa loving Zuko's "weakness" but hating Azula's strength. I thought that really made sense for her character.
The scary thing is all this would have actually happened if the Avatar didn't return during that time. Azulu would make that power play And succeeded her father becoming the Phoenix Queen and rule the entire world Becoming exactly what her father wanted and more! No wonder why it became a delusional dream of an Alice Asylum ( And her future being unknown when she escaped)
Damned, Damned, damned, God fucking Damned. THIS IS PURE GOLD!!! So much it's sinfully beautiful! The way you enhance her unstable desires to be feared and wished to be Adore and loved. Just makes her all the more interesting as a villain and as a flawed individual in the most terrifying way. Amazing work.
The thing which i also adore is the name itself. Her being the "wildfire" is basically a fire which is uncontroable and devours everything in it's path, it is feared and hated and every single person will try to stop it. You can't really warm yourself by it. I do wonder where they will take her story in comic, i'm happy that they didn't go that a spirit reedemed her in the comic but she did spared her lackies so there is something onto it.
I LOVED all the details in this! Between Azula being “broken” and “ Psycho” and the scar on Mai to match Zuko’s! This done so well, chills! Azula deserved better, she was born to be “good enough” to standers that were to crazy. ❤️
Her narcissistic demeanor was quickly snuffed out by her loneliness, when Mai and Ty Lee betrayed her it snapped what little humanity she had severing all emotional connections accept one, anger and fear. But let's not forget the fire that began this sever, her mother's disapproval and eventual disappointment in her, knowing she was expected for greatness by her father and the twins, Azula's behavioral problems began from the minute she entered this world as she was expected to become a prodigy of her father... *BEST. VILLAIN. EVER!!!*
I love the parts where Ozai is actually happy and when he actually loved her. You can see it in the clip toward the end, as she grows up what little good Ozai once had he lost as his thirst for power grew.

AZULA LITERALLY DESERVES HER OWN SHOW
she really does
Her challenging Zuko should’ve been the focal point of season 4 if it happened instead of the movie
And this is all in childhood/adolescence, when the personality is still unstable
This is the saddest story in this cartoon universe.
Ursa did what she could
she is a child 14 until now
The fact that’s it’s her delusion makes it hit deep as it’s what she wants but can’t have when she was defeated
She's 14
This is just how i interperted her behaviour during the show.
@@lamultishipper9530Ursa tried with Azula but Ozai constantly undermined her parenting

The most crazy character that finally have a story
I like the subtle foreshadowing of the conclusion. "Should've led the fire nation". "Should've challenged you both to an Agni Kai". As in, she didn't.
I freaking ADORE the illustrations, her bright glowing eyes, the contrasting reds and blues- the lyrics full of lore and emotion. Like its so freaking good! Thank you for this absolute master piece of a song for the fandom!
This is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard
You really did Azula justice
Yeah same here 😊
My 2nd comment:
Wait a second I just realized. They say a Phoenix is born when their parents die and rise from their ashes. The lyrics “Watch me rise of his ashes. As the Phoenix queen I will fly” actually has a meaning. Really smart choice Milkky!

@ Because she talks too much(in Azula's mind, not mine).

@@doctorwhat5719 Unfortunately, she is.
❤
An amazing song! Happy late anniversary to Avatar! I actually MET Dante Basco, the voice of Zuko once at a convention. Nice guy and a great actor.
This song TOTALLY fits Azula and it shows her downfall from Fire Nation prodigy and next in line, to a mad woman, consumed by hatred and self doubt that led to her being locked up (at least til she escaped, of course) and only having these images of "what could have been" to keep her happy.

I love the voice, the animation, the lyric... I love all ! Thank you !!
You don't understand how obsessed I am with this - the song, the animatic, the EVERYTHINGGG
Noooo the cabbage man XD
And the savage burns (literal and verbal) against people, honestly slay lol
She can't handle all of this and suddenly snaps, becoming insane.
imagine the people working overnight and hearing azula singing out of nowhere😂😅😂😅
Honestly, for being one of my favorite villians, this song makes we actually feel sorry for her. Really goes to show how maybe if her mother had shown her some real love, maybe things would have turned out better.
Then they do say that a child rejected by the village will burn it down to feel its warmth
Eh idk. I love Azula but she is truly evil and rotten to the core.
@@Meela9088yes I agree 👍 💯
@@Meela9088 i dont see her evil or rotten to the core. far from it actually, she only did everything because it was her duty and its a war. She deserves as much as Zuko. there was a debate i remember reading if you goto baby hitler should you leave him alone or unalive him? and some responded should heroic kidnap him so can grow into a good person? have kids ever been kidnapped for LOVING and good reasons instead EVIL?
While Ursa may have been able to try harder, Ozai quickly undid any work she'd do in trying to teach Azula how to be a better person. Azula was his golden child and he kept her close.
This is a good song! That plot twist legitimately caught me off guard! Reminds me of animatics of this song “The ballad of Sara berry.”

This was so good!!! 🙌
I especially loved the line about Ursa loving Zuko's "weakness" but hating Azula's strength.
At 1:12... WAS THAT FOAMY MOUTH GUY IN THE BACKGROUND?!

Yea
Im loving the lyrical conections to azula's fan song in your eyes
I actually love this, I'd like to see Zuko's perspective while all of this is happening..
I LOVED all the details in this! Between Azula being “broken” and “ Psycho” and the scar on Mai to match Zuko’s! This done so well, chills! Azula deserved better, she was born to be “good enough” to standers that were to crazy. ❤️
Azula watching Ursa comfort Zuko hits hard 💔 "I hate how she loved all his weakness while fearing my strength" She wanted her mother's love.
