Avatar the Last Airbender is a masterpiece and I will never be convinced otherwise.
Hope you enjoyed this original Katara song by myself and @FrostudioChambersonic !! I’m SO EXCITED to release it, I’ve been working on this project for ages and am so proud of it! Naturally I usually do covers so putting out an original song is always nerve wracking, so if you enjoyed please do drop a comment/share! (This isnt meant to be a villain song btw for anyone confused)
I really wanted to explore that moment just after Katara learnt to bloodbend and what her emotional state might be. This is arguably the darkest story arch in ATLA and I wish we got a few more episodes on it to see the effect it had on her! So this was the next best thing for me, write a song and play around with it!
LYRICS:
These hands they don’t feel like mine
Spirit deep inside escapes it confines and I’m running out of time
Don’t know if I can hold it back
From the swathes and scores it wants to attack
I can’t hold it back
My only purpose
Was to protect
Those I love and care for
This powers tainted
Can’t restrain it
It wants vengeance and war
If I’d had power
All those years ago
What could I restore?
Could I have saved you?
What have I become
Who would save me
What have I become
What have you made me
Look how far you’ve come
Stronger than the sea
As weakness fills my lungs
And I’m scared of me
Once the waters edge felt safe
Now the waves they roar and rage
Mother water and I am her daughter those waves run in me
Currents rush and race and seethe
Righteous anger here to feed
And I have control
Bend and fold
This whole world
I will mould
I’ll make their blood run cold
My only purpose
Was to protect
Those I love and care for
This powers tainted
Can’t restrain it
It wants vengeance and war
I must remember what I fight for!
What have I become
Who would save me
What have I become
What have you made me
Look how far you’ve come
Stronger than the sea
As weakness fills my lungs
And I’m scared of me
My gran would tell me stories
Of peace before this war
Where everyone was happy
And knew what they lived life for
She told me there was one
Who would unite them all
A shining son would come
And that’s all she foresaw
What part am I supposed to play?
Am I the storm?
Will I be
The Villain
This power
Unbidden
If I send a wave to you will it drown me too?
What have I become
What have I become
What have I
What have I
What have I
What have I become

Female Zuko song be awesome too
I thought maybe you could maybe do one from Legally Blonde?
I know those are not like normal songs you do but it would be really cool!
Also YES!
I petition for a queen poppy evil song!
Could you do "The Spring In Springfield" from The Simpsons as Marge's villain song?

Katara is afraid that she's a monster. That being a Bloodbender is something that's inherently evil, and now, she's corrupted. But, she isn't. The representation of her rage and trauma DIDN'T drag her down to the depths. She is going to struggle with it, likely for a very long time, but, she won't become a monster like Hama was.
Bloodbending is kinda like Firebending. It depends on how you use it.
@@TimothyBarnes-sz6rm Basically. Bloodbending, like martial arts in general, is a tool that can be used for a myriad of purposes. It is no more evil than using any of the bending arts to potentially lethal effect.
@@shadowldrago Agreed, like honestly, bloodbending is the perfect art for someone like Aang who doesn't want to kill anyone. It can easily immobilize anyone with zero risk of death unlike other bending methods.
I wonder if in the next avatar series, their can show Bloodbending as a way of helping people. Like the police force using it To temporarily Take away Bending from criminals
@@TimothyBarnes-sz6rm There is a theory that Katara used bloodbending to restart Zuko’s heart after he took that lightning strike.
So... Is anyone looking at this and thinking "yeah, this isn't a villain song, but..."
Edit: why does this have this many likes? Also this was made 5 hours before the premiere, so I had no idea what it was about. I just meant based on the thumbnail
Katara actually was one step away from becoming a villain when she used bloodbending and Ice spikes for revenge...🤔
It is an original song.
Yup
@@zhanbossi5511 it’s true
Kind of yes i thought of it more a split image between good and evil with the colour symbolism with blue and red
This is very much NOT a villain song, but, it's Katara's fear. Fear of her own rage, fear of becoming just another killer. Fear that Bloodbending is inherently evil and that by using it, regardless of WHY, she, in turn, Is Evil. This feels like part of a story. And we see that conclusion in the episode where the confronts her mother's killer, and ends up Bloodbending the wrong guy, but spares him, and deliberately doesn't kill her mother's murderer. She doesn't forgive him. She's never going to forgive him. But she is not a monster. She is more than her trauma. And, even if out of sheer spite, seeing this man brought so low, she intends to rise and be BETTER.
That is Katara's greatest strength, she has displayed the power of emotions and has showed us to be better people.
Yeah I don’t get why people dislike Katara so much for her trauma on losing her mom like I get it can be annoying when she constantly brings up her mom but like that event really shaped her present self and her drive so I get it.
@thepeeps5943
For me it's her utter lack of respect for Sokka even after he became worthy of it.
Spite is a very good tool to surpass trauma when you reach the end of it you are soo diferent already that you don't even care about it anymore
Yea yeah but at the end how does she not die and drown by her clone I wasn't really paying attention please help me oopsie
“Avatar the Last Airbender is a masterpiece and I will never be convinced otherwise.”
Lydia… why would someone try to change your opinion about an absolute fact?
haven't watched this show I just know toph is cute and basically rocky natsuki from ddlc and Aang is just better ciu that's bout it for my knowledge but I might watch this show
@@user-mn8bp7uc4rPlease watch it please its so good
@@user-mn8bp7uc4r you should watch
and i never made that connection between Toph and Natsuki, kind of off but there is similarities
I love the detail of Katara's "evil self" being red like the fire nation
You can also say that Evil Katara was red like blood too.
@@leebulger7112Yeah I know
There was so much depths in the metaphors here. The fact that Katara had to kill a part of herself to win but that was what that part of herself seemed to want - it was blood chilling and so well written
I thought it was meant to be red for blood. Sense she relates bloodbending to evil
Or red like when the moon spirit got hurt by Admiral Zhao, just like Katara was hurt by that fire nation soldier who took her mother.
If you think about it, what must have really deeply affected Katara wasn’t just simply mastering blood bending, but learning that such a dark, demonic skill actually existed within water bending. Her whole life she loved water bending and cursed fire bending, never knowing she was practically capable of much worse.
I mean, it’s one thing to burn someone, but to tear their muscles & organs apart, fix them and tear apart them again, not to mention being able to make people hurt or kill others against their will?
I mean, she had a slight grasp of bloodbending with the healing spells related to water, the thing is that she was too innocent to know it... yet (yeah, in TLAB there are not "spells", but I don't have other way to call them).
It would be interesting they found a way of healing with firebending as well
@@eternallylearning2811 Come to think of it, in terms of healing you could use fire to close cuts by searing them. It would hurt like hell, but it would be the quickest way to stop rapid blood loss. You could also use fire to sweat out - for instance - snake venom from one’s system.
@@jackbelinski2661 yeah
@@eternallylearning2811There was a firebending technic for spiritual healing in Korra. Altough it ended up being more of a diagnosis because the problem wasnt spiritual but rather physical poison. Still you can use firebnsing to health wounds to the soul since its basically energy bending. The thing is, the only way you are going to get an injure like that is by going to the spirit world and fighting a spirit or by pissing the hell out of a primordial guardian spirit that can cross to the real world and curse you in a way that isnt their domain(aka the mother of faces removing their face)
I'm honoured to be able to work on a collab with you! You are spectacular and your voice is truly majestic!
Thank you so much for agreeing to work on this one!!! So proud of what we’ve made!!
@@LydiatheBardThat was your voice?! You truly sound like an angel from heaven. That’s an amazing talent you have there
The fact that there isn't any songs from ALTA that would fit for Katara and that Lydia had to write this song from scratch is absolutely amazing. Great job, Lydia 👍👍👍
Edit: Thank you so much everyone for the likes and support. It means a lot to me
Only atla song I can think of is leaves from the vine and that's more "sobbing uncontrollably" then "hero/villian song"

This
I like this is not just a villain song but also about a girl who is so pure of heart battling her inner demons. Bravo! 👏
Looks like the demon won tho
It did. At first. But Katara regained control later on.
I hope they include katara learning bloodbending in the live action it's fr one of my favorite parts of the series
WHY?!
@@davidvaldezjr5546 Because seeing characters face unique trials isn't a bad thing?
@@blane-li And see people being turned INTO LIVING PUPPETS?!😱
@@davidvaldezjr5546 Think of it this way, friend:
A well written villain, no one would ever want to meet as a person. BUT a lot of people enjoy the effort and time put into creating a well written villain, because a poorly written one would do nothing to help shape the story as a whole, or balance out the hero!
This is very similar. People often have one of their favorite scenes be one of the heros most dangerous or painful struggles; not because they enjoy someone being in danger or pain, but because they enjoy the effort gone into creating such a horrible scene, and all the care put into it so that we as the reader/watcher CARE what happens to these heros.
Does that help make more sense?
@@blane-li Yes, but No! No Bloodbending in the live action!😡
Thank you so much for having me as the artist on this one Lydia! Put my blood (heh) sweat and tears into this one >:)
Lol I know you were growing for frowny smile but all I can see is Aang in >:) good work on this
The artwork is absolutely beautiful! The colouring, the movement, the emotions, it's all incredible!
The art is so expressive and beautiful!!
Your art style is seriously so beautiful and amazing to watch!❤️ especially love how u drew katara’s inner counterpart!😆😭 and overall love how much emotion u put into Katara and her movements is so satisfying to watch! Amazing work and job!👏🏼👏🏼❤️❤️
Thank you so so much for all your help!!!! Always love working with you ❤️
I think Katara is having visions of what could happen if she gave into the blood bending art that her rage and sorrow empowers.
I think that even Katara’s evil side was like, “Please, just stop fighting,” at the moment before the flashback. As if it has ‘inherited’ her compassion.
Genuinely amazing. I love how she was singing and fighting against the worst of herself and that ending was terrifying
Which part?
@@davidvaldezjr5546 her drowning against herself and her face when she exited the water
@@njivwathomassilavwe2056Katara did not get out of the water unscathed.
Ikr
"If I send a wave to you, will it drown me too?" AAAAHHH I CANNOT WITH THIS EPICNESS. THE WAY YOU CAPTURE KATARA'S INNER CONFLICT IS JUST SO PERFECT, I LOVE IT
This song perfectly showed Katara's inner turmoil. I don't think most people realise how awful bloodbending truly is. And for Katara, who's basically the embodiment of compassion, it must have been devastating to be forced to use it. This song does Katara justice in a way that the show didn't (as much as I love the show).
That ending right there makes me think that the other side or Katara, her lust for power and revenge, taking over her and controlling Katara. If this becomes a series with the other three songs then I am here for this.
I think the same thing.
3:29 "if i sent a wave for you, would it drown me too?" That hits deep
If the original ATLA had it's own musical songs, this would definitely one of them and one of the best.
The puppetmaster was the scariest & one of my favorites of S3 especially for Katara's arc! She finally found another Southern water tribe bender to bond with only to be betrayed as Hama lost her way fighting for freedom. This whole project is beautiful. All her rage, pain & trauma now being pushed to bloodbending. She won the battle but let all of it rise again in Southern Raiders. I agree if we had more time for her to absorb what happened, her new abilities and emotions that would be EPIC
IDK why but this made me think of how Jet lost his humanity fighting the fire nation a lot like Hama did.
This song perfectly shows the duality of us all. Our anger our addictions our struggles. A war waging daily within us all. Fighting against ourselves in a never ending battle. The truth is both sides represent us as a whole. We can all heal from the pain that’s been done to us with time.
Now I want a reprise of this when she finally finds her mother's killer.
YES. YESYESYES.
Yes please
If ATLA gets a musical this would easily be katara’s song after learning bloodbending! It’s both scary and sad that her fear and rage self was beating her and being drowned by her own self was scary AF!😔😳 another absolutely stunning and beautiful masterpiece queen!👏🏼❤️
I agree 😊
This really reminds me of an excellent ATLA fanfic by greeneyes117 where the whole story is told by Katara in diary form. The author delved into the ramifications Katara must have felt after bloodbending, and this song feels so perfect for the deep dive. Beautiful, beautiful job, Lydia!
the final lines, with the animation, of Katara being drowned by herself, that was just....perfection, in lyrics and animation, just....hot damn i have chills....especially from the whiplash of Katara saying how gram gram told her stories about time before the war, then hinting at the avatar
and Katara going "what is my role? am i the storm? am i the villain?" and still questioning that, to her last moment
This was really really good!! It’d be really nice to have an Azula song about why she needs to be a villain. The battle with her good side!
Yeah I agree with you ✨ 💯
Oh yeah but maybe Azula as a child since she went dark pretty early
@@dmanrod9479 I wouldn’t go that far, she’s still a teenager in the show battling it
That's a good point and I guess she does have a redemption ark in the comic books. @@Auronomi
I had never even thought about how she could have thought about how she had saved her mother. I would love to see a villain song for Katara next.
this is so cool! Seeing her lose the battle against herself was so sad to see and with that she probably went to attack the man who k1lled her mother
An excellent song that perfectly fits with Katara's character. The way the video ends with Katara walking away with a tense look after seemingly putting her demons at bay is especially fitting, considering she'd later fight those same demons again once the opportunity to kill her mother's murderer presented itself to her.
Katara is so beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤💚💚💜💚💚💜💚💜💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💜💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
I know I love her so much!! She's my favorite
The way the "what have i become" has me ascending. Omg this was incredible!!!
what have I become/what have you made me is so good!!
That look on her face in the last few frames... foreshadowing?
Wow... that's extremely powerful. Really captures that moment in Katara's story where she has to face her inner darkness. And the visuals? The image of Katara battling herself and drowning the more she tries to fight back? You did really great with this. I really felt it. Keep up the excellent work.
This was amazing! I love that it's not just another hero-turned-villain song (as much as I love those), but a reflection on a hero who's struggling with her trauma and her inner demons. Beautiful job, Lydia!
BONE-CHILLING! I got some severe goosebumps and this made my brain tingle
I find this fitting. Katara’s trauma is shown vividly throughout the show, and many times she brings up her mother. But this fear of becoming heartless like she views Hama or the Fire Nation is what holds her back. Fear is good and bad. It can keep you safe by stopping you from making bad decisions, but it can hinder your judgement. We see this when she tracks down the man who killed her mother. She was angry. She was sad. She was scared. But to show how tough of a character Katara is, she held back. She thought over her judgement. At first she thought that killing this man was vengeance, but it would just turn her into the monster she feared of becoming. She refused to be the monster that Hama was. This might be less obvious, but it happened with Azula. (Spoilers for the finale) When Katara was fighting Azula at the end, Katara manages to encase the two in a bubble of water. Now, many would see this as the perfect opportunity. Azula can’t fire bend, and she is immobilized. Honestly I feel most would leave her there in the bubble to drown, but she doesn’t, sparing Azula as she did the man.
(Side note) I feel like Aang would ultimately be the one to help her throughout her trauma and sorrow the most (minus Sokka)
I have to admit that I always thought of Katara as one of the strongest members of the gaang. I myself have always placed her as just below Azula (or just above with bloodbending). The one thing that hides this is that Toph is so combative and that Zuko is much more at home in a fight.
Well it makes sense, bith toph and zuko have been training and fighting since little
@@nicolas._.2294 Yes I like pointing out one of the few times we see Katara fighting all-out in Ba-Sing-se(?) where she does beat Azula one on one.
@@nicolas._.2294Toph was already a professional fighter when she met the team so she has possibly the most fighting experience.
The feeling I'm getting from this song is that she fears the new power she learned because of the damage it can do to someone. This is similar to what Aang had to battle with when it came to fire the difference is instead of burning people you could twist their limbs or cause their entire cardiovascular system to self destruct on itself.
Towards the end she learns to accept herself and the new power.
Katara was deeply afraid of what she would become when she learned to blood bend. Power often corrupts unless tampered with humility and humanity. Everyone has to face their inner demons in their life.
Bravo! Miraculous singing! Katara is beautiful, strong, smart, and incredibly resilient!
💪💦🌊🤩😍💕⭐👍
This is an amazing take on Katara struggling with her inner demons only to be drowned by the monster she has become. 0w0
I hope every character in this series gets their own song! Your voice is angelic
Yeah totally agree 👍 👌 💯
Can we just talk about how powerful this song is?
Yes
Chills, literal chills...
she needs to duet with milky melodies like it would be pog
OML I just relized something if you look at 3:24-3:31 you see that both Katara’s in a way swapped personality’s for a moment! Katara is trying to kill blood bending Katara with anger on her face while Bloodbending Katara is trying to stop her.😦
Ngl this video is awesome!😎
And then when she gets out of the water, she seems normal, until the last panel where her expression changed anf she looks like blood bending Katara.

I know this is Katara's song, but if you've read Kyoshi's novels, this song could definitely fit her too! It's so good!
The way it ended was like a cliffhanger, and I feel like there's going to be a part 2 sooner or later
I recently started watching this series again and now you make this!!😭
This will be so good, can't wait :D
I called it! This was completely incredible! Katara is such a cool character, the animation for this story is awesome, this song is beautiful Lydiaa! 🩵
Damn this hits HARD. "Will it drown me too?” Shiiiiiiit. Great stuff Lydia
Well, you know what they say: Blood is thicker than water.
Okay but seriously what're the odds that I just fell back into my Azula era and here's an atla song?
I was just watching this episode yesterday and I come across this perfect timing
edit: I'm re watching the song again because its sooooo goooood
This is going to break my replay button… again
Such a beautifully powerful song, befitting an emotionally conflicted character like herself. This impressive animation went so well with your angelic voice! eager to see what's next in store for our favorite bard! 💙🎙
This is already by far one of my favorite songs on youtube.
Edit: I just realized why this stands out among her villain songs, she knows she's becoming the villain, and despite everything she can't stop it.
Holy crap I was not expecting to see this in my recommendations, now that I think of it, I wonder if katara had semi consistent nightmares about her bloodbending abilities after The Puppetmaster
This is so true , she kill herself for powers of the water , but never use righteous , full of ego above powers that forget even her indentity. So sad but very truth ❤ amazing lyrics , gratefull to you 🙌
This is not a villain song, but about Katara's fear that her anger will turn her into a monster
oh my god this song is AMAZING! it really puts into perspective what katara must've been feeling when she learned bloodbending. i couldn't have asked for a better song for my favorite character 🥰
I loved the episode with Yama, even when I was a kid. The way they showed Katara becoming confused and feeling guilty was done so well, and this song fits it. Good job!
i have probably watched this almost 10 times already in the 2 days its been, this is amazing. this is making me want to see a what if story of katara going bad and giving into vengeance, like not holding back on her moms killer.
Another amazing song! Something I would love to see in the future is a Queen Poppy from Trolls as she is the most positive character and I think you would kill it with turning a cheery song into a villain song maybe something upbeat as well!, especially with the backstory of the Trolls being eaten.
Yeah I agree with you
Ok, this could represent the one hero npcs inner conflict with their inner darkness after the encounter with the blood bending witch in ATLA canon lore, though it’s all in their mind, just saying is all!?!?
Also if anyone read the fan series “ distorted reality “ this could represent the dark alternate temporarily fighting their good alternate universe variant of themselves, also if you take that series into consideration as well…
There's got to be a part 2 to this, the way it ends feels like it needs it
I'd love to a reprise after the southern raiders. Zuko would totally reassure her she's still a good person 😊
LYDIA YOU NEED THIS AGAIN 👑
This was pure genius! The lyrics, the animatic, everything!!! Some of your best work. Thank you so much!
This so expertly portrays Katara’s struggles. ❤
This is one of my fav avatar episode so getting to see a song for Katara when she learns blood bending is amazing ❤ Seeing her struggle with the fact that she has this terrifying power turned and it’s into a beautiful song
This single song had more emotion and sincerity in it than the entire live action reboot.
Lydia, you have perfectly captured something I have struggled to put into words for a long time. I cannot thank you enough for making this song. You reminded me of all of my hard work towards being a better person. Thank you from the bottom of my still-healing heart ❤️🩹
God, I was like JUST rewatching ATLA compilation clips this whole day and decided to finally check the notification AND SAW THIS
I'm used to all the villain songs, but I love this song too. Great work. I'm looking forward to what else you release in the future. In the meantime, I'll have this song playing on repeat. I think it's a perfect way of portraying how Katara feels about bloodbending.
Lydia has the best songs!!
Wow, this song is even more intense with the Animatic visuals 😮 I absolutely love it though 🩵 I haven’t gotten to this episode yet, but I was still feeling Katara’s emotions and anxiety and the visual representation of her rage is excellent 👍
The animatic is AMAZING, it fits so well with the emotion of your voice and the story it tells was so enticing. This is such a powerful song, but also sad at the same time
Katara thinks she is a monster but she is not. She is scared of what she might become
Hi miss Lydia! Spring has sprung and now ur here!😊🌺 It's gonna make spring so lovely 😊🌺🌼🌸
Here have a snack! U deserve it after All u do for us fans😊🍩🍨🍭
I kinda wish they did this as part of the show it would have shown that much like zuko she’s struggling mentally especially while they let him into their group
This was an amazing song 😍 i loved every minute of it. I know its supposed to be a villain song but its so good and in my opinion fits thr narrative of the last season very well. You got to see her be moody and hold a huge grudge against Zuko when everyone else accepted him. And than just how angry and how far she was willing to go to find her mothers killer to the point where she used blood bending. A power she swore she would never use. Just chef kisses perfect song.
so can we all agree katara def had nightmares about becoming like hama and using bloodbending to hurt people?
I don't personally like Avatar too much, It wasn't something I watched through, but this!? This IS AMAZING. This makes me almost want to try watching it again. You deserve all the likes and views this video is getting!!!! I love your voice, it's just so melodic. Keep the great work up I seriously can't wait to see what else you do 😍😍😍
I also wish they'd explored what Katara being able to bloodbend means for her mental and emotional state. That was a really good moment of darkness in the series.
I'm in love with your voice!! This is a perfect song that describes her fear (both of herself and of not doing enough to fight) and rage (y'know) combined. Idk if it was intentional or not, but I loved the parallel between Inner/Scary Katara and regular Katara and Inner/Scary Korra and regular Korra, both became what they needed to be to survive and both are terrified of that version of themselves and what they're capable of. Great song and great video!!
Absolute CHILLS!😨 Great job Lydia!
This song took my soul away, turned it inside out and brought it back. I'm shocked. It's very beautiful
WOW, AMAZING! I love Katara and you captured her character perfectly!
WOW, amazing once again Lydia. Now I demand a song for every ATLA character 💕
This is the most beautiful masterpiece I've seen this year🔥🔥 holy that art style and the lyrics are wonderful.
Lil' Katara and Lil' Sokka are so adorable 😍
Got goosebumps at the flashback to her mom. Great job
I like how she reached the surface, no matter what, Katara is not someone who let fear drag her down, amazing song Lydia 💖
This is beautiful it captures her fear of her rage it dove into something that should have been in more detail animation is chef kiss the song is also amazing so everything is amazing great job.
A little bit late, but what a great song this was (in my opinon, it would've fit perfect for Katara's characters if the series would've been a musical) Happy saturday afternoon, Lydia. Take care and God bless you, greetings from Colombia tou you as well.
This is a masterpiece Lydia 💙🤩
