  • One of the guiding principles in narrative therapy is that clients are always cooperating and communicating their comfort level with the pace of change. Charley Lang rejects the label of 'resistant' for clients who do not follow the therapist's path, instead placing the responsibility on the therapist to be flexible and adapt to the client's needs. He stresses the importance of respecting clients' choices for their own lives, and concludes with the phrase, "there are no classically resistant clients. Only inflexible therapists."
