  • So, why do cassette players eat tapes? Simply put, it occurs when the tape inside the cassette gets pulled out by the pinch roller within the player. When you insert a cassette, the tape wraps around the pinch roller and is pulled through. Over time, this can cause the tape to jam or even snap due to the pinch roller.
Now that you understand what might be causing your cassette player to damage your tapes, how can you fix the problem? One solution is to clean your player. While using high-quality tapes can minimize shedding and residue, regularly cleaning the pinch roller with isopropyl alcohol will help keep it in good condition.
