I like this car along with the ioniq 5. I don't like the minimalist approach of the Tesla with just a screen. I prefer screen plus buttons for the important stuff.
Good to have a variety of EVs to suit different tastes/needs
This is why I got this car too compared to Model 3/Y.
Nice review Tom! We can always rely on your detailed and frank opinion. The more EV reviews I see the more I realise that 16 years of product refinement shows in the technical superiority of Tesla cars.
Pleasure! I’ll keep doing them and I’ll keep telling it like it is 😆
Many thanks for your review and thoughts in the summary. Tesla still appears the one for us for the near future. Cheers!
Pleasure!
(late June 2024) would purchase this bEV Ioniq6 if it was brand-new AU$44,990 driveaway (currently selling for AU$71,990 driveaway brand-new). AU$44,990 OTDP is about same price as a brand-new Subaru BRZ Coupe S automatic (ice) officially its AU$52,990 but with haggling can get $7,000 discounted
Worth asking for sure
I always wanted a red model 3 long range until the Ioniq 6 arrived.
My friend bought a model 3 which is a great car, but the 6 is better for me.
Awd Epiq range: 285 to 295 miles ( 458 to 484 kms ) at 100 kph. WLTP range is unrealistic EPA at 270 miles seems pessimistic.
Charging 10 to 80 % at 17deg C no preconditioning: 20 minutes.
Nav: easy to use.
Controls all fall to hand easily.
Highest crash test rating.
Very quiet and smooth.
Acceleration: 4.7 to 5.1 ( 0 to 100kph ) 0 to 60 kph: 2.4 ( which is better than expected)
Superbly built, second to none ( I’m used to European cars ) but also vintage and classic cars.
I prefer the look of the Ioniq 6 but the Model 3 is also a wonderful car.
It’s a personal decision.
Very personal indeed
I’ve experienced this with the eGMP cars that the highway range is better than mixed urban use 🤷
Yes Tom.
I’m very happy with the range.
We have the Tritium 350kw chargers handy here in Qld.
Thanks for your review.
It’s great to have Aussie’s reviewing on Australian roads.
Also did you try the HUD? It's my favourite feature. HUD doesnt work with CarPlay or Android Auto so thats why I use the native navigation. One other thing, Bose sound system is on all variants even the base model. The driver seat can also be adjusted higher to see more of the road or front of your car, depending on how tall you are. Good video. Cheers,
Ah yes I forget to include the HUD in my review - I must admit I often forget it’s there!
Hi, thank you for the detailed review. I’m interested in your opinion and thoughts as to how this car compares to the Polestar 2 performance? Particularly in terms of road handling and user interface. Thank you
The Ioniq 6 feels roomier inside but is probably lower to the ground. P2 steering is firmer/sportier than the eGMP cars. Suspension is similar
Polestar native infotainment is easier to navigate but both cars have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto anyway which helps
Tom I read that the 6 is only a "Compliance Vehicle" or is it coming to Australia in large numbers? Thanks
I suspect it will be the usual drip feed of stock from Hyundai much like the 5
Good review, glad you could test drive one, be farked if they would let me a drive of a car (non EV) when I asked, Guess I'm not important. So Mod3 it is now.
Your local dealer didn’t have one to test?
I saw an Ioniq 6 the other day , the person driving it was borrowing it from his parents.
They had upgraded from a Kona electric for the extra range as they live in a more regional area.
The Model 3 RWD looks like good value with not much less claimed range for the price difference.
About the only thing I don't like on the Model 3 is the indicator being on the wrong side for a RHD car , that was what I found most annoying on a Ford Focus I had.
Left side indicator does take some getting used to but once you do it becomes second nature
Hi Tom, great video thanks, but I just wanted to know why when reviewing the E-GMP cars you never mention Regen Auto, which is very predictable and which I think, is very like lifting the foot off the accelerator in an ICE automatic car, apart from the forward sensors. So that approaching a red traffic light you lift off the accelerator and the car gradually slows, then you can use the brake; approaching a slowing car in front and lift off the accelerator the car slows because of the slowing car, then you can use the brake; on a fast road lifting off the accelerator you coast, going uphill lifting off the accelerator you slow down, and going downhill lifting off the accelerator you continue at the same speed unless the slope of the hill changes. All very predictable on Regen Auto.
Oh wow thanks for highlighting this … I did not even know this existed! I just looked it up and it seems that auto regen has discrete levels that lie between Lvl 0 and Lvl 1 🤯
I suppose this might be useful for situations where you either want to coast if you want to roll or creep at a light (similar to Tesla settings)
Ok wow! If I get offered another loan of a EGMP car, I’ll try to remember to play with these 😃
Disappointing that Hyundai haven't included the charging route suggestions. Polestar's charging search is pretty seamless. I sometimes do a back up search, but it's usually pretty good.
Planned charging is included, but lacks some details (% on arrival and charging time). Both should be included in the next update, but I've only seen previews of that.
Fantastic, great review. This car is mooted as the long range EV solution, so I'd be interested in the long range claiming 600km range, which is the sweet spot for extra-urban road trips. I don't think they are achieving this yet, despite the aerodynamic design.
Would be fun to do a long range road trip test
@@LudicrousFeed Yes please!
A long range road test in the 2 wheel drive version would be good. This is the version that the claim relates to.
I'm not a fan of camera mirrors purely as it adjusting focal length and doesn't have the same look as a mirror plus imagine someone going along with a hammer or cricket bat and smashing them as the walk along passing the car with their hoodie down so even a sentry camera won't capture their face. Plus Euro style plates I see as well.
Yeah I like the plates 👍
I thought I saw an Ioniq 6 today on the roads but wasn't sure if they are available yet
I believe there may be a few around …
Haven't seen any myself yet. I've owned one for month and a half now.
In looking again at the car the wheels have this strange affect of reminding you of the Porsche 928 wheels even thought they look nothing like them. 😅
Design cues right!
Charging route planning - this is a software update the Hyundai have released for most of their cars - it can be activated via the hidden Engineering setup menu. "Technically Jeff" has a video on it. It will be made available to everyone via OTA soon.
Ok cool that will help
Might have to borrow the car again to test!
Doesn’t really stack up against Tesla does it? I get the same range from my m3 rwd with 60kwhr battery. Those mirrors are ridiculous and the screens are cluttered and confusing much like the overall styling of the car. They will never sell these in big numbers until they get the efficiency up and the cost down
Apple CarPlay (and presumably Android Auto) is a saving grace to combat the confusing infotainment
Tom, I don’t mind the styling of the front, but I just CANNOT come to terms with the droopy rear end!
It just looks far too weird!
It’s almost as if 2 separate styling design teams worked on the front and rear, in isolation from one another, and then merged them together at the very end😳😳
That styling would be an ABSOLUTE deal breaker for me, in spite of the the vehicle’s other fine EV attributes.
Haha droopy rear end - maybe the update needs a butt lift 😁
Great video again thanks Tom. Nice car, but yeah too expensive alongside Tesla Model 3 and Polstar 2, not to mention the MGs.
A tiny little thing: I love the side rear view cameras/screens - makes sense - but wouldn't you think they'd place the screen in the bottom corner of the side window, in line of sight to where you'd see a traditional mirror, rather than on the end of the dashboard? That way you'd instinctively look to where a traditiuonal side mirror would be. Looking at it in this video I found it awkward.
But maybe that's me.
You’re right, the screen was at an awkward position and I found myself looking outward instinctively when under stress … I guess it takes time to get used to it
What is the on-road price?
Depends on your haggling skills with your local dealer I suppose
I'm from Vic and have never seen these repetitive lines on the road. What do they signify? They are pretty annoying
Yeah they seem to be only on the M2 in Sydney. They’re even more annoying to drive on 🙄
We do have them, but not on a highway. Mostly see them at high risk intersections, especially with lots of truck traffic. Is a cue Tom slow down for stop
Key fobs? How quaint ! 😉
Indeed!
Did you notice the billboard at 7:42? :)
Haha lol. I promise that wasn’t my product placement 🤣🤣
Haha...good spotting!
I wouldn’t make a habit of using the supercharger network. It’s supposedly not good for the battery. Most people charge at home anyway. So it’s not as big a deal as what people make out.
Yup as I said in my summary if you never drive long distance, it’s not as big a deal
Yup over 90% AC Charging in almost 8 years of Model S ownership: ruclips.net/video/4iwWYACEH2U/видео.html
way too many screens and buttons, tesla just makes a clean cut interface with good software.
Given this is my 6th eGMP press car loan, I think I’m finally getting the hang of it … I think
It does feel like the iPhone effect - just make it simple and easy.
Tom is up early
Gotta catch that worm 🦅🪱
only 400km range? wow even my LFP tesla does more than that 440 or more.
Yeah admittedly I parked it outside during a cold week
400km is plenty
@@SS-yw7vo compared the Tesla equivalent. Its terrible range. for the price. the long range model 3 is not only cheaper it has 600km range, and is faster at 4.4 second 0 to 100km. sooo..... yeah
not keen on styling at all - the side profile kind of reminds me of a SAAB
Ah yes! You’re right it does kinda look like a Saab 😆
Once you see the H in the key fob you can’t un see it 😂
Haha nice
everytime i see these third party vechicals the more happy I am with my Tesla :D
I have to keep testing to make sure of that 😬
I love the 5 but loathe the looks of the 6
It’s certainly unconventional!
The exterior I like, but that interior seems very ugly. Especially that steering wheel.
I actually don’t mind the interior - feels quite premium. The steering wheel is rather plain though
Would say that out loud to much. Some leaks of the refresh model 3 has something similar.
Say Elon 3 times, spin around, jump, and clap, so don’t jinx it 😛
wow hyundai still has terrible software.
I think I’m slowly getting used to it …
face to face this car looks quite ugly in my opinion.
I’m still not sure how to feel about it myself!
