  • In this edition of Ballast Media Reviews, I look at the new YoloBox ULTRA from YoloLiv. This is an amazing stand-alone encoder for live streaming, with 4 HDMI inputs, 3 USB connections and 4k live streaming! That and a whole lot more is packed in to this little "monitor."

      I want to mount my YOLO box on my video camera. Please give me the link to buy an adequate material for that. Thanks.

      Check the true recording frame rates and encoding for this feature for me often does not work as advertised. There is something weird with their encoding and frame rates.

    Thanks a lot 🖖I saw a lot of reviews and you are the only one who explained that this device can't record individual inputs in 4K for later remastering 😢 For me it's a big disadvantage at the moment. Wondering if YoloLiv can fix this in future updates.

      They lie about their features with false advertising and omitting key facts about features. I am contacting the FTC and working on a class action lawsuit to stop Yololiv and their distributor Gary Battan and Broadfield from selling these products and scamming customers.

    Thanks Stephen, am just waiting for a standard 4k mixer with an iso that don't cost an arm and a leg.

    Tell me, is it possible to connect an audio card to it via type-c?

      If you can plug the audio device in to a PC without needing special drivers, then it will probably work with the ULTRA. I haven't run into an audio device that doesn't work yet. I'm sure you could find something, but most common ones seem to work.

    Using the Ultra I had 2 video cameras inputting and I recorded both ISO and the mix.
    The ISOs were fine but the mix was out of video-audio synch and was unusable.
    Any explanation?
    I've done lots of Yolo recordings with the Pro (and I think the Ultra) and don't remember having this synch issue before.
    Never tried the ISO recordings before - but needed them today
    Any ideas?

    Question: (Thank you for the review) I have access to an ATEM mini (original not the pro) that I use with OBS, I've been getting pro jobs for streaming conferences and seminars with virtual guests and on set guests, I need to upgrade my gear but the budget is tight since I am also upgrading cameras (I will be getting Panasonic Lumix S5 ii since I already work with panasonic cameras and also do video and photography work) I'm interested in a setup that can handle "supersource" or equivalent, and graphics, I have been thinking of getting the Yolobox Ultra since it offers a lot of features even 4K streaming for almost the same price as an Atem Minie Extreme ISO and it is ery portable and fast to setup, but I've seen very unfavorable comments on Yolobox's (Pro) reliability for streaming in professional settings, I don't mind audio issues with internal mixer since I mix audio externally with digital audio mixer, I'm interested in your (anyone) opinion about getting this Yolobox Ultra for this type of work or what would you get knowing the budget to be tight.

      While the ULTRA has had some early release reliability issues, so did the OG and Pro. Yololiv seems to be pretty committed to fixing issues and getting it to work right, and they seem to be releasing updates for it pretty regularly over the past few months. So, my take would be that the ULTRA will be, if not already is as reliable as the Pro. If I were to purchase something right now I'd probably go with the ULTRA.

    Hey Steven..... THANK YOU.
    Thank you for speaking like a normal person amd explaining things so plainly and easily ad if your audience is learning with you and not like we all have done this for years like EVERY other person reviewing this box!! So appreciated.
    Subscribed just because of that.
    Im a podcaster amd videographer for our kids hockey team. So im looking at this for dual purposes and wondering if it can do both.
    For podcasting, i currently use a Zoom Podtrak P4 with my mic going into it via xlr, and my co-hosts coming in via zoom and USBC into the P4. Then i have a soundboard on a tablet that has all our music and sound effects that also goes into the P4 via 3.5mm audio cable. It's great for recording just audio tracks but we are now doing video for RUclips and using zoom to record our show, i then have to go into my video editor and spend hours editing after... adding in graphics overlays, transitions etc...WILL this device be able to do all that on the fly live and record it thus cutting out all editing after?
    Next scenario. Filming games at hockey rinks. I use the Mevo Start 3 camera system with their Mevo Multicam app on a tablet. One calera behind each net, sending its feed to the tablet wirelessly, and one at center ice that I'm controlling on a tripod also sending wirelessly to the tablet. The tablet then streams to the teams Facebook page through an app called SidelineHD which adds a scoreboard, player info etc. This is all streamed through my phones cell hotspot.. and thats the problem...the cell has trouble with the arenas sometimes as cell signal isn't that great and then the feed glitches. Can this box replace all of that and still stream through a hotspot?
    Thanks for any help you can provide!

      For podcasting, I would still route your microphones as you've been doing but use the USB out of the Podtrak into the Ultra as your audio source. As for the hockey live streaming, it definitely could do that. It's not going to have any magic to overcome spotty cell signal, unless you use bonding with another connection or something. ASP might be able to make your connection a bit more reliable depending on how spotty the signal is.

      @@BallastMedia ah ok so using the P4 as the main "switch" gathering all the audio, then it sends it to the Yolobox....are you able to do graphic overlays, lower thirds, title slide ins from the Yolobox itself?
      As for the arena scenario, what is ASP? So the Yolobox can take wireless feeds from three cameras if connected to the same hotspot source? The bonding might work as some rinks have public wifi, it's just usually overloaded but if bonding with my cell signal that could help it. Can the Yolobox be used to go online and find the same SidelineHD website to log into for the stream? Or would you have to rely on its own built in scoreboard etc? I saw I think that someone else can connect to it from their phone and do the input for scoring and such...is that correct?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  7 месяцев назад +1

      The only over network camera input would be from an NDI camera source. I don't know if I would trust running 3 cameras over wifi. ASP is a protocol that YoloLiv uses to increase the resilience of the upload connection, basically it makes your network connection to their servers more reliable even in the presence of network anomalies. (It is a paid service.) Yes, you can add lower thirds, and score boards, etc on the Ultra. It has some basic lower thirds built in, and you can use the browser based Overlay Lab on their website to create and control more complicated lower thirds, or setup whole listings of content you want to overlay.

    Do the web overlays require the use of Yolocast?

    • @BallastMedia
      @BallastMedia  7 месяцев назад

      It's always been free, you just need to sign up and create an account. They've not broken it out from yolocast to make it clearer that it's a different thing. www.yololiv.com/yololiv-overlay-lab
