I just bought a C200 after hedging on it, so I think it will be good value!
I used to shoot a C100 when I worked for my college's journalism school, so I look forward to having a Canon camera again. And frankly, I was never happy with using a DSLR form factor for run-and-gun filming.

Great video, answered many of my questions.
As a relative beginner to video currently using a 5d3, I was tempted to go the camcorder route (XA50) for simple RUclips videos but the C200 looks like something I could learn from and I already have some decent EF lenses.

No need for a new latest camera in 2024. I've been still using C300s and FS5s I've never had a new camera. BTW I personally wouldn't buy from anywhere except Adorama. Their return policy and quality control is very accurate. Their "well used" is still in very good shape, and as of today Sep 25, 2024, C200s are going for $1670.

So I’ve tried being on the cutting edge and buying gear when it first came out and also tried being on the trailing edge….”still good enough for now”. I’m now a retired hobbiest, so my preference going forward is to buy in the newer side of the curve, not be limited and hopefully get a 10 year runway before “not being good enough”. 10 years is a long time in camera world, but the C100ii and 70D made that goal as did my XHA1 back in the day.
It’s nice to be on the front edge, enjoy the new capabilities, and then have years to learn and optimize the gears use while its capabilities hold up to newer offerings.
I’ve also “missed” on new tech as when I bought the 7D upon release. It was almost immediately obsoleted by the 70D’s excellent dual pixel autofocus, audio controls, and a number of other features.

My C200 is used almost on a daily basis. Mainly because of the form factor. Yes, I want the C300iii but couldn't justify the lofty price yet.

To my knowledge, cinema cameras sensors are not quite comparable to photography camera sensors. So I wonder if the image quality difference with the R6 is the sensor size. 10bit / 8 bit could be the reason, maybe also the R6 being a 20mp sensor which makes it great in low light.

The C200 does have tracking auto focus, but you have to map it to a custom button. Once the button is pressed you can put the tracking box on whatever you want and then press the joystick and it tracks. Tough to find, but works well. Also while in face priority mode you can switch between detected faces using the joystick.

@@andersistbesser Depends on use case... I know editors who curse and swear at DPs who shoot in RAW because a lot of commercials they do (5-30s ads) have a 48hr delivery window after shooting. And waiting 18hrs to transcode from RAW to ProRes just makes their life hard for no reason. This was made worse when a DP tried to share files via cloud instead of driving 30mins to deliver a hard drive so they had 20-24hrs to do a 48hr job. Not much need for RAW when white balance is something decided on-set and there's no extreme colour grades either. Simple ProRes 422HQ would have sufficed. I think RAW makes sense for run-and-gun where you have zero control in the field, so you want control in post, or if heavy grades will be done.

Our studio has dozens of Canon camera including the little M50 and I can tell you that camera needs a LOT of light when you are recording video...I mean a lot. So if you're shooting outside on a real sunny day, then the images can be good, but otherwise small struggles. It would be best to use canon's "L" series professional lenses with the M50 which is what we do but I understand most people don't have access to those expensive lenses where you can shoot aperture as low as f1.2. Honestly, out by yourself a canon full frame sensor camera. You can buy used canon R pretty cheap or if you have more money move up to the Canon R6 MK I. we now keep our M50 mounted about a computer monitor used as a web camera :)

As a loyal C100 M2 user I was bitterly disappointed after the long wait for the C200 - no 4K 10bit 422 internal to SD? REALLY CANON???!!! I didn't buy it. Just upgraded to a C70 last month and really like it- only complaint is miss my EVF but I have a DIY solution that works. Since I basically can't give my C100 away I'm saving it as a safety cam and streaming cam. I firmly believe if Canon had kept the excellent form factor of the C100, made slight improvements to a touch screen, better EVF and autofocus, and made the Mark 3 4K 10bit 422 at a decent Mbps internal to SD they would have sold a million of them.
