Now that you mentioned it, it makes Punk an absolute brilliant businessman & the UFC an even more POS company.
The reason why I say that is because Punk got 2 Million total from the UFC with zero martial arts experience & fighting as a novice in the company.
He got in because of his name value. Others fighters have been fighting for years & aren't even/haven't been close to making that kind of money. Punk made that in money in two fights.
Yeah, he got his ass whipped in the octogon, but at least he got paid big money to get his ass whipped.
Nate Diaz was absolutely right when he said the CM Punk signing made the sport look bad.
The UFC roster is loaded with talented fighters & for them to sign an ex pro wrestler with no martial arts/mma background, no fights, etc is a huge, huge slap in the face to those talented fighters that bust their ass to hone their craft & be great.
Nothing against Punk though, seems like a really nice guy, it's just the UFC was a really bad fit for him. Maybe he should try competing for Bellator or King of the Cage.

I respect him for giving it a shot. He failed and he accepts it. If he wants a third fight, it's up to him. In my opinion he should've started fighting in small mma promotions as soon as he left wwe. He'll probably come back to wrestling since that's what he's good at

If I were Punk and started in my late 30's, I would pick a combat sport where the level of competition is not crazy high like maybe muay thai, fencing, kendo or something like that and aim for national level success. He would never be offered that kind of visibility and prestige in amateur sports for training for a couple years but then again professional sports are about money and it's a bit different, which is why he was allowed in the UFC. Would he be called upon to compete in olympic boxing representing the USA for dabbling in boxing? Obviously not. It would be beyond ridiculous. All things considered, since he is already established in MMA having got a good start in it and his best years are fading fast it's probably the best to continue MMA and fight some low level matches.

Becoming an MMA fighter is not something you start at 37 years old like CM punk did. Unless you have a background in some type of combat discipline....maybe college or olympic wrestling, boxing, jujitsu, etc...unless you already have an established background in one of those disciplines there is ABSOLUTELY no way you will be succesful in an MMA career if you started at 37 with no combat sports experience

I mean You got your shot and you get full credit for stepping in there but if I got a shot to play in the MLB and got up 20 times and struck out 19 I think I’d call it a day. I realize it’s not a fair analogy but I’m bored at work and You get My point.
