    Thanks for the upload. My 2007 Commander with the 4.7 V8 wouldn't start last night for my wife. She had already called AAA when I sent her a message asking her to let the mechanic know to jiggle or test the connection on the yellow starter wire. Presto....that was it. Thank you sir!

    Just wanted to give a thumbs up. This was exactly the issue happening for my 2007 Grand Cherokee. After I clean up, this works fine for couple of years. Since I am owning this vehicle for over 13 years now, I have went through of this cycle few times now. So last time I cleaned it, I tied up a thick gauge speaker wire to that end of that connection and tied the other end with the something under the hood that I can easily reach. I just happened to have those wire handy in my garage and wanted to experiment something. So guess what happens today! Wifey called complaining about Jeep not turning over but the car was turning on. So asked her to open the hood and yank the wire gently any then try it. And it worked. Surprise to see the wire was still tied to the other end and the rattling did the trick. So what is shown in this video is 100% legit. Thanks.

    Thank you very much for this video. It gave us a starting point for troubleshooting and it most certainly was the yellow wire! Much appreciated!

    Thanks, we’ve this issue before. Our truck was dead, won’t start, towed in and then started. No one could figure it out. I tried this tonight and it worked. Since our truck is over 10 years old, we’re getting the starter replaced on our time frame. Skillet

    Thank you for taking the time to put this together. It's very helpful. I can't believe people are looking for a fix but are complaining about the video. At least you took the time to explain it. They should make their own video if they were so bothered by it.

    Thank you, your video has solved the mystery we've been puzzled by for over a year now. Only difference is we are getting an error on the dash "TRANSMISSION OVER TEMP". We've spent over $1,000 changing parts, thanks for saving us the money from more unneeded repairs! Our Jeep goes in tomorrow to have these wires replaced as they are badly corroded and melted!

    • @jesusfreitas6964
      @jesusfreitas6964  9 лет назад

      +LaTiscia Cameron Yes, I was also getting that error reading on my dash at the time my Jeep would not start. To be honest I don't understand why it gives us that message. Before I did anything to my Jeep to fix the problem I also took my Jeep to a bunch of places and spent so much money just to find out that it still would not start and no one could understand why. So I just really took things into my own hands and so far my Jeep has always started each and everyday with out no problem.

      Anytime buddy. I think that was the worst thing that has ever happen to me was being stranded with my Jeep any no one knowing why. Now if my wife and new bird was with me in the cold stranded, I would of been very disappointed and got rid of the truck. I took it to the dealership and they told me it was the battery and by the time O got my Jeep back from they I spent a grand and month latter it didn't start again. So, I took matters into my own hands and figure out the issue. Also what I did was make a new connector for that wire and it never gave me that problem ever again. Check out my description if you haven't so you know more about it.

      Gustavo Mancinas I had that same issue also right before I made the connector. I will make another video on the connector I made. It's a very simple thing to make and Im sure someone has a better way of making one but it was what I had in my garage. I can tell you that ever since I placed the new connector on my Commander...never had another problem again with the Commander. Started every single day so stay tuned and I will make another video for you.

    So, I have had my Commander for 6 years. About 2 years ago I started experiencing this problem. The first time I changed the battery even though it tested good (but it was 5 years old). The next time I ended up having it towed to the dealer. When they checked, it started right up. Fortunately no charge and no phony repair. Happened again last night when I was getting ready to leave the house. Boy were you right. I checked yellow wire. While it wasn’t loose, I took the connector off. I could see it was corroded so I cleaned both the connector and terminal. I coated them with electrical grease and reassembled. Hopefully it won’t corrode again. Thanks for the video!

Lately I’ve been having starting issues with my Jeep and tried replacing battery, alternator, and was hesitant to replace the starter since I didn’t really have any issues starting it. I thought it. Same issue with my jeep, this is a good (but long) video on how to fix it. The starter is a little hard to see on the V8, but it is in the same place, you just cant see the connection with your eyes. It happen 2 years ago for me, then some times it does it after 6 months, some times after 2 weeks. I keep a bottle jack in my car so I can jack it quickly and usually, if you just push the wire with a stick it will work, or if you can stick your are all the way up around the drive shaft, just push the smaller wire on on the way

    Thank you! Honestly, I was very hesitant to believe that this could be the problem. I had the $600 Starter fear in my mind. However, after giving this a try it worked!! The connector was only out about 1/8 to 1/16, but that's all it took. She started right up! I wasn't a believer, but now I am. If you are reading this, give it a try. It's worth a dirty back and a couple turns of some bolts. (didn't even have to jack up the car. It was tight, but doable if you come in from the front of the car.

    PLEASE READ THIS COMMENT!
    For those who tried and used this tip, it works temporarily but the solution is within this comment. Here is the short of it... jack up commander, remove plastic skid plate, remove wheel and inner plastic splash guard . Have a long extension, socket and a socket wrench and a swivel. Remover starter bolts from beside the driveshaft . Remove starter through the hole above the frame through the small space above the frame in the wheel well. Wires won't be long enough to pull the starter out the whole way so u have to remove the wire retainer from the inner fender by cutting or popping it off the inner fender. U can find it by tracing the wires forward from the starter along the fender. The wires will then be long enough to bring out of the hole to work with. Remove starter heat shield. Disconnect starter. Clean all connections well! Remove nut on starter and pull the washer attached to the grounding lanyard off the post on the starter. Use sand paper or emery cloth to lightly sand and clean both sides of the washer and the nut. Before putting washer and nut back on, put dielectric grease between every surface and tighten. Clean the male connector post on which the yellow wire attached to on starter with sand paper or emery cloth. Coat in dielectric grease. (Same stuff used for spark plugs.) Reattach starter and reinstall . The dielectric grease repels water which keeps corrosion from forming. I did it and it hasn't had any issues starting since. Hope it helps you.

    Yeah at this point the yellow starter wire is a pretty well known problem among commander owners, and there's a replacement kit available. The wiring sits in the skid plate which among other things depending where you live collects salt and other corrosive road contaminants.
    Jeez, man I appreciate your intentions, but I was ready to scream at the screen to fricking get to the point already. Unfortunately it was something I had already done a while back and just had the problem with it not starting return.

    Update 9/28/16:
    Hey all so sorry I have not been able to update on this video and I appreciate the feed back. Now I been getting messages and questions on how to do what I did. What I did with my connector like I said may not be for everyone. It's what I did with my Commander because my starter connector was not properly staying on which is why the truck would not start. Ever since I did this or at least made a proper connection...my Jeep Commander has never given me a problem. It starts right up every single time I use it. So my opinion is to check your starter connector and make sure it's pushed all the way in and cleaned off. I been having some new ideas for my channel which is why I have not posted a video yet but if you have any questions please feel free to ask and stay tuned. Thank you all for subscribing!

    Ok, 9 months later it started again. It's cold too. wiggled the yellow wire and got it going again. Next day again, not starting. It's tough to remove it and wondering if it has a locking tab. Just hard to see when my arm is in the way.

    This makes the most sense in all the internet, going to take a look this weekend! The fact that this issue is intermittent seems like a connection issue. My no start issue is after the car has driven, and when you come back to vehicle and try to start again you just get the electric click sound but no start, full accessory power, battery tests normal. Triple AAA came out one time, I was expecting to get towed, but my guy got under Jeep and hit the starter with a 3 ft pole while I turned the key, sure enough it started. But is that a bad solenoid in starter? Or did he just jocel the connections enough to the starter?

      I apologize for the delay in response. Moving forward I am going to pay more attention to my channel and post more as well better videos. I have a few updates to post on my Commander. I can tell you that if I purchased a used vehicle; a few of the first things I would do is change the motor oil and filter, spark plugs and possibly coil packs, coolant (Use the correct coolant stated in the manufacture manual) and thermostat, and after that work your way towards the transfer case fluid as well differentials. I know it sounds like a lot and depending how much you want to put into this Jeep you just purchased. These are the things I would do to make sure I know what's been replaced and new. That would help you narrow down any issues you may have. What's going on with your Jeep can be anything and you need to start with the basics especially it had a previous owner and you have no idea what he/she placed in the Jeep or when he/she did. It looks like it has been 2 weeks already since you post this message. Let me know if you did figure this out or not.

    This video was such a life saver months ago after the first time this happened to me. It only happened once every 6 months or so for a while but lately it's every week... Do you know what this would cost at a shop to get permanently fixed? I just had my car towed to a shop cause I'm sick of doing this and I'm wondering if I want to pay him to fix it for good or just have him climb up and wiggle the plug in for me?

      Thanks, I'm glad I was some help. Its been 4 months already and never had that issue ever again. I have created a different type of connector for the starter and it works much better than the factory. I will make another short video of what I made. I believe after time with electric connectors they tend to wear down. This is usually normal for electrical connectors but for a vehicle this should last much longer than anything. Chrysler just didn't create a good connector for the starter. The factory female connector has way to much play in it which really it shouldn't have any. If there is no complete connection between the starter and the harness or complete circuit...well you can put the puzzle together from there. It just wont work. Which is why i made a connector myself and it fits tight on with out any play in it. Right now its performing the way it should a lot better than factory. Its easy to make and place on the harness, so I will make another short video of that connector. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

    I am having the same issue now. it's getting cold here in iowa. I have a few questions. was your jeep turning over at all with this problem or just clicking? mine is turning over but no start.

    • @jesusfreitas6964
      @jesusfreitas6964  8 лет назад

      Albert Hernandez With the issue I and many other Jeep Commander owners where having the vehicle would not turn over. If your Commander motor is turning over but no start it could be either a fuel or spark plug/coil problem. Remember that an engine needs 3 things to run...air, fuel, spark. What you are having is not the problem I was having.

    Hello Jesus, Thank you for the video. We also have a 2007 Jeep Commander and we are having the same exact problem that you and the rest of the people have had. We've had this issue for the past 4 years or so. As everyone has said, it happens at random. Two days ago, the problem occurred again. I couldn't get it to start. So, I left it parked for 2 days. Then, it started. My first question to you is what is the name/part# of that yellow wire? Is it or another wire that's compatible to it available at auto part stores such as advanceautoparts, etc? My second question is if not starting is caused by the wire being loose and not tightened enough, then why does it start after waiting for a period of time? If it didn't start because it was loose and no one pushes it back in position to connect, why does it start on its own after a while without manually touching that yellow wire? Thanks again.

    • @jesusfreitas6964
      @jesusfreitas6964  9 лет назад

      My Commander did the same thing and to be honest I really wish I had an answer to everything. I tried to narrow down what the problem was and it all led to the connection/wire going towards the starter. That yellow wire...I have no idea what part number that would be. All I know is that it's a 14 gauge wire connected to the harness. I made another wire just like that with a tighter connection which I have in another video I made and never had that issue again. Now I'm not 100% sure this is the case for everyone but at least for me my Commander always starts now and no problems yet.

    • @jonathanlaque4248
      @jonathanlaque4248 2 года назад

      I believe its because the wire gets hotter when its loose because the current it working harder to make that reach causing it to over heat so the wire has to cool down. If not correct the wire gets worse and worse. To the point of not making that connection at all.

    How can I get to a fuel pump on a 2007 Jeep Commander from under the seat

    • @jesusfreitas6964
      @jesusfreitas6964  3 года назад

      You can’t take the fuel pump from under the back seats. You can locate it and possibly make an easy access point by doing some metal trimming but I wouldn’t experiment with that. You will have to lower the fuel tank from under the Commander and take the pump that way. One you carefully lower the tank it’s pretty straight forward from there. Just make sure you either pump out the fuel or make sure it’s low so it’s not a hazardous/dangerous mess. Also make sure you have extra clips for the connectors because they break off very easily. If you are not experienced in this I would either have an auto shop do it or have someone with you that has experience. Good luck!
