Thanks for your comment. I find the R5C has good dynamic range when using the base ISOs, exposing to the right and taking some care to manage the highlights well in the grade. I only used a little noise reduction on the very last clip in this video.
Nice shots, congrats! Glad to see someone else using the Canon R5C to its full potential. I'll come to Hong Kong soon and your videos got me excited. Can't wait to film there!
you would be right. Its because since the r5c's native isos are at 800 and 3200, you can use iso 3200-8000 with a very clean image compared the fx3. the fx3's native isos are at 640 and 12800. while the fx3 is amazing at having a native iso at 12,800. needing a iso that high is an extreme case, and the r5c's 3200-8000 range is usually more practical for your everyday low light situation (filming streets at night, or inside buildings)
You make the R5C and Hong Kong sing. How do you power the R5C? Do you think it's possible to use it as a run and gun documentary camera on batteries and use USB-C PD for interviews etc?
Thanks Simon. I use an Anker USB-C PD for interviews but for anything else Canon LP-E6NH batteries seem to work fine - I get 70+ mins recording per battery in 4K oversampled and about 60 mins with 8K raw light.
Can you please show how you color grade the raw footage in resolve or premier pro ? I record with Canon R5 not the C model with clog-3 and Clog-2 and iso set to lowestpossible 800-3200 but I get a very noisy image. I also find it super hard to color grad the canon R5 footage to get a cinematic look knowing that I am very good at photography color grading. When I test with other cameras like red and arri footage it is super easy to get a hollywood look with those deep contrasty colors :/
With both the R5 & R5C cameras I find overexposing by a stop or 2 and then lowering iso or correcting exposure when grading is effective for minimising noise. I've found the best way to optimise dynamic range and get rich colors with Resolve is to use a Color Managed or ACES workflow. Darren Mostyn and Cullen Kelly have some detailed instruction for these methods on their youtube channels.
Apparently Canon raw runs smoothly on a Mac Studio Ultra M2 - I still use a 2017 iMac so yeah it's a pain. The workaround is to generate proxies simultaneously when shooting raw. The proxy files are small and easy to edit - then relink the raw files for the grade.
Hey bravo for the video, nice colours ! Little question... do you have some issues with the sound since the firmware update ? Like white noise even if there are no microphone linked ? Thanks
Nice clips that for the Night mode vidéo on the R5c I really needed to see keep the job up
Thanks
Quality Images in a Real World test, can you shoot 6k ? Thank you for sharing
@@GizmoMaxx Thanks for your comment. R5C shoots 8K FF raw, 5K raw in super 35 crop mode and 4K in oversampled in compressed codecs.
@@csound55 6k Super35 with 1.6x focal length crop.
That actually looks pretty nice! with a reasonable amount of dynamic range. Better than lab tests led me to believe.

Wow that is some spectacular work right there
Thanks for watching and appreciate your comment.
The best R5c shots
Thanks
Shot in neutral or log?

Thanks for the positive feedback. Hong Kong is a very photogenic city, always lots going on. I'm sure you'll enjoy filming here.
I'm doing my research right now and it's a truly remarkable city to film. Victoria Harbour area looks gorgeous at sunset @@csound55
@@aroundtheworld4k Indeed the harbour can be quite magical at sunset with the sun reflecting on the tall buildings.
Great work. Is that the canon rf f2.0 lens you’re shooting with?
Thanks, I used the Canon 85mm f2 for all the shots from start to 3.04, 48.02 and 1.57. For all the the rest I used Sigma 70 - 200mm f2.8.
Why does it look like Film?
This looks so good!
Could this camera be used for a full length film, or a TV series?
I guess so - the R5C is Netflix approved.
@@csound55 Excellent.
@@csound55 In 8K?
@@maknight99 Yes shot in 8k raw but edited on a 4k timeline
its so weird but i think the canon r5c has better dynamic range than fx3, especially in lowlight

Hello my friend! What settings did you shoot this in? Was this 4K or 8K raw? What lens did you use? This footage looks awesome!

Thanks for your comment. I tested and can't hear any white noise if the onboard monaural mic is turned off.
Perfect thanks a lot for the info @@csound55
Lovely video, great shots! Combines a few things I love: Sheung Wan/ Sai Ying Pun, beautifully framed shots and Canon color science 🤩
Thank you Lippylee, appreciate your positive comments. I'm forever seeing things I want to capture with video or photos in this neibourhood 🎥
Thanks for bringing me back there! Your videos really capture the energy of this neighbourhood 😀
