How to get ungated in grocery FBA 2021

- Amazon has recently been restricting sellers from selling grocery. In this video I'll show you the process of getting that lifted.
*You WILL NEED a professional selling account to do any of this.
1) Form your business
2) Get your EIN
3) Get a tax exempt certificate from your state
4) Open a wholesale account
5) Order 10+ units of something that exists on Amazon
6) Upload that invoice to Amazon on the application page

Cool, right on thanks, I have a pretty old seasoned account, I was always ungated in grocery for years and I let my account go for awhile and when I started back up all of a sudden I noticed they gated me, so as I recall, this is pretty much what I did in health and beauty. So did you have to wait for the items to arrive before you could finish the application process on Amazon? I didn't get an invoice through email, I'm assuming I have to wait until the items from Frontier arrive and the paper invoice will be included in there?
@@themoderndayhippie8149 no you have to email and ask them to email you an invoice. They send one by mail automatically.

Who did you purchase from? I tried to purchase from Boxed.com. But Amazon wouldn't accept their invoice. They were telling me that my invoice didn't have the terms of the sale, even though it's not in their checklist, and wouldn't approve me.

Great video! Clear, concise, and actionable next steps. I've heard of people ordering a case (12 items per case) and not being ungated because the wholesale quantity was designated to the amount of cases ordered, not the individual items. Have you heard of this issue?

Question, when you say our invoice has to show we bought at least 10 units of something , what if I buy a case of say spaghetti and it has 24 individual packages does this count as at least “10” units? When you fill out the application for a Wholesale Account, do you use your storefront name as your business name or your personal name. When I set up my seller account I didn't use my storefront name in my contact information. From the video, it sounds like the invoice has to be the same as the information on the seller account so I don't want to have it rejected by using my storefront name on the invoice. What do you suggest?

Seems the Grocery and Gourmet Items category no longer requires approval. However, the individual items do require approval. That being said, I'd think we need to have an invoice for the specific item we are trying to get approval for now.
If we do not live at the moment in US, can we sell on the grocery category as a small company from Europe with FBA ? We need for an EIN as an individual or as a company ? Or do we need something else as a company (sugar free low carb cuisine @Muchaton) ? Thank you !

Hello, I’m from Florida as well, so I have to go to the State website to get that reseller certificate, I have my Sole member LLC, and EIN number , but Amazon only lets me to use my personal name and not the companyLLC and can’t use my EIN as well, just my SSN, is excepted because I’m a sole member, My store front has my Brand name , so if I go to the wholesale site, do I use my Amazon store front Brand name or my personal name,? And do I do this for each category like general products, , toys etc
The “apply” button for categories is grayed out now and it says “no longer accepting applications for this category.”
Is that because I’m a new account? Because I basically can’t apply for any sub category at all.
There is a local BBQ restaurant that packages their own sauce(it is awesome) and I just looked and it is not anywhere on Amazon. Would a wholesale purchase from this company be a possible way to purchase items, provide an invoice and subsquently be ungated for grocery?

Question: Do you think it necessary or wise to purchase the wholesale order with a separate business checking account as opposed to your personal one? You know, as a way to maintain a distinction between you and your LLC.
For accounting purposes, everything should be done with a seperate bank.

Hey there. So I order the 0.1 oz basil seasoning from Frontier and was not aware that this product didn't have ingredients on the label. It is just basil so I see why... but I am now pending approval until I fork over an image that has the ingredients on the label. Any suggestions??

You don't save any time using an agency. You still have to type in all the same information either way. They just present it on a prettier page.

When ordering wholesale do you ship to amazon or to your house?
@@DuchessWillow you would have to sebd to yourself first so that you can take the live photos that amazon requires from you. After that, you can setup direct shipping to amazon if the wholesaler can accommodate.

Do you need the reseller tax certificate? Having trouble understanding what that is compared to just using the EIN
EIN is your company “Social security number”. This is what you will use when you file your taxes. You apply for this from the IRS.
Reseller tax certificate is something you would get from your state, that exempts you from paying sales tax.
I certainly don't mind doing the work on getting the account and buying but what about the items that were already sent in? Our recent shipment is going out in 2 parts, part 1 has been received and has a number of food items we were approved for sale when we purchased. Part 2 of the shipment has more of the exact same items and now I'm getting the notice of approval needed while creating the shipping plan. I called SC support and I couldn't get a definitive answer regarding this situation. Do I send in the rest of the items? If I don't send the rest, what happens to the items already there? I was told by SC support, they'd sell. If I do send the remainder in, will they be added to my existing inventory? Refused? Stranded?

If your stranded items are stranded because they require approval for grocery, then they will become unstranded once you are ungated in grocery.
Looks like Frontier only sells their own branded products? If so, not sure how buying from them would help you get ungated?

Can you add products you get from discount stores like Grocery Outlet once you get ungated or do you have to continue to buy all your products from the wholesales/supplier?
Once you're ungated you're good to get stuff from whatever store you want

If we unlock groceries do we have to still unlock brands of whatever grocery item we’re trying to sell?
Yes. Some brands will still be locked down
A couple of things here.. The invoice that Frontier Co-Op provides upon a purchase does not include their address, which Amazon requires. I have emailed them and requested a detailed invoice that includes this information, so hopefully they are able to provide it. Also, In addition to uploading that invoice, at least for me, Amazon is asking for "Photos of the product or its packaging" that meet the following requirements:
- Are live photos, rather than computer generated images
- Clearly display all sides of the product or its packaging
- Include model number, product name, or both
- Include name and physical location of the business or manufacturer
- Important information must be in the country's local language
I suppose this means I will have to wait until I physically receive the items before I can apply.. NBD, just don't think you can order something and immediately apply to be ungated in grocery. Hope this helps!
Yeah you will need to show pictures of the actual product. So it's not instant, but it does happen rather quickly.
A work around would be to find something on a wholesale website that you currently have in your own pantry (we actually do use some of the spices that wholesale coop sells). Order a case of those and take pictures of what's in you pantry.
I know their invoices work because at least 100 people in the Hustle Buddies Facebook group have used them successfully. I think they may provide slightly different invoices for the free/upgrade accounts, but I do know both free and paid accounts were able to get ungated with them.

Look for a .gov option. Usually it's the top (non sponsored) option in google.

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but I'm working on getting ungated in grocery and when I look at the selling application it says the invoice needs to be "dated on or BEFORE Jan 8, 2023 (within 180 days)." Does that mean I need to make my order and then wait 6 months to actually apply? From your video it made it sound like it needed to be within the last 180 days/6 months, but maybe they've changed something?
Before is a weird choice of wording there but means sooner.
180 days maximum. 1 Day minimum :)

Purchase Order is an accounting term. It's generated internally by the buyer and provided to the seller as a document basically agreeing to the terms (units, prices, delivery, etc.) of an order. Some companies, especially those with separate buyer and accounting groups, require them and will not pay an invoice without a PO number as proof that the appropriate department has already approved this purchase. Bottom line, if you don't use POs, but a seller requires them, you absolutely can just put any number there.

Yes you only need 10 items of whatever you’re trying to get ungated in. People who are buying 10 cases are either just trying to scare newbies off by making it sound like you need a ton of money to start or just wasting their money for no reason 😂
@@RandySoWavvy it has to be 10 units , if a case of 10 sells as one unit then yes you need ten cases. for instance buying a 10 pack of oreos wont work thats only one item you would need 10, 10 packs. one case of 10 would only show up as 1 unit on your invoice unless they are sold seperately and you actually have to type in 10 in the quantity hope that helps

Just send them your business tax info. And if you don't have that yet, then none of this will work as you skipped step one. Go back and get that stuff :)

What if it says you need an invoice from the specific brand? If I get ungated with grocery, am I still restricted on brands?
You just need the invoice to have that brand on it. So frontier works just fine as long as they have the brands you want.
If you need kellogs, then you need to get an invoice with kellogs items on it for example. Yes there are category restrictions and brand restrictions and they are separate.
Are the messages different can you tell when it’s a category rather than the brand itself?
Is it 10 units per category, or all together. I ask because I wanted to use this to try and get ungated for topicals as well.
In this video he specifies 10 units because that is the minimum unit amount that Frontier Co-OP requires for a wholesale purchase, this is different from distributor to distributor.
Amazon asks for the invoice to include 10 units. So for any invoice you are trying to send in for any reason, it must include 10 items of the item you are applying for.
That's what I figured and that's the route I took.

@@comothagreat5776 name, address, items and qty, the wholesaler name and address. I didnt bother blurring out price or anything like that, what i did was find a cheap item thats actually on amazon(preferably with a decent sales rank) mine was seasoning (simply organic rosemary around $1.60 ea ) i bought 12 just because im selling them in packs of 6 but you only need to buy 10 i've done that with other items. after you order just call them and have your order number ready and tell them to send you an email of the invoice, they usually cant do it until the next business day. when you receive the items and youre at the ungating application send the pdf copy of the invoice for the first part of the approval process and for the 2nd part the pictures of the product take one or two pictures of the items in the shipping box then take one of the items out and take a picture of the 4 sides be sure to include a clear picture of the ingridients and the address of the distributor. for clarification my seasoning came shrink wrapped in packs of 6 i had to cut one out and show the actual individual product. hope that helps

Yeah this video I did in real time to just show people the concept of how to find them. Most people used Frontier Coop which we talked about in this video.
It's very simple to find wholesalers for ungating purposes, so if one doesn't work just move along to the next.

Our Facebook group has 28k people and I would be willing to bet that at least half of them watched this video and did exactly what I said to do and were ungated. It's not hard to do.

The site and products all work. A denial can come for a variety of mistakes, though often you just need to resubmit.
No the invoice had just the name not a detailed description of product also no ingredients on the product I did everything great just the invoice is missing things as well as no ingredients on this specific season
