We live in a microwave world where we want the answer now instead of seeing the whole view, of what this gentleman is saying here.... I understand he took the long route. But it's best to see the whole picture leading up to the truth. Instead of get getting to the point to quickly. Special when it's the word of God. Thank me later.
Everybody always wants to explain it in a way that makes them feel good and where they can accept it, instead of just taking the word for what it says.
Joe Cormier We are God’s design, His creation. It seems that many of these answers are parsed in a culturally “palatable” fashion, with US as a starting point. Wrong. We’re here and live at Gods good pleasure. Time for us to fall in line with what our Creator intends.
@@yj3111 he was being sarcastic, ripping on all the women that claim Jesus, God or the Holy Spirit told them to violate God's word and all the cucks telling them, "you go girl!"
Totally agree. As a woman, as a child of God; my only goal is to walk in God's truth. Not the fallen world's truth, not the truth of those that bypass scripture because they have a private agenda....but the truth that is proved by scripture! God Bless!
@@erichetherington9314 No it isn't. A bias is a preference and/or presumptions on brings with them when examining something. An agenda is actively planning and trying to accomplish a particular outcome. Someone with an agenda has a bias, but not everyone with a bias has an agenda.
@@georgechristiansen6785 I agree with you, and indeed when I wrote my last post, I figured you might make that distinction. My initial response was with regard to 'purpose 1228"'s comment above about people who "bypass Scripture because they have a private agenda." What makes this tricky is that bias and agenda are so closely linked. I assume she meant anyone who doesn't think the Bible is full ONLY of truth (and not full of folly and myth and violence, etc) has an agenda, but she reveals her own bias: Namely, that people don't agree with her about the Bible are purposely out to destroy it (or something like that). Seems to me an agenda is the plant rooted in bias; if I tend to discount much of the Bible (and based on study and research, I perceive this is a valid approach), that is, I suppose a bias. But it leads naturally to my ACTIONS of protesting the viewpoint of people like her (and other fundamentalist types). Hence, i may now have an agenda, but it is a set of beliefs, reflected upon, and then acted upon (and not a bias of which I am unaware). The word "agenda" seems to connote "nefarious plots" but in fact, my agenda could be described as doing my part to alleviate ignorance and foolish readings of a complex text, like the Bible, as opposed to just swallowing it hook, line, and sinker.
I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a servant of the church at Cenchreae, that you may welcome her in the Lord in a way worthy of the saints, and help her in whatever she may need from you, for she has been a patron of many and of myself as well. Romans 16:1-2 ESV
I’d say yes to the deacon part. Romans 16:1 refers to Phoebe as servant, but that term also means deacon (which he refers to in the video). Deacons aren’t a leadership role, it’s a servant role.
What about bishop Salome. Who's icon was erased by Constantin.did not fit in with so called Christian values. As your leader said go and spread the word Duo duo. Two by two and I don't believe in a male dominant bible
I agree with this. It gets hard now a days because I think that the word of God is not as plain as we want it to be..... But it will always be the gauge in which we are in pursuit of holiness. We can disagree on issues such as this but cannot loose sight in the word of God and in the mission of Jesus. That is key and can lead us to a different call but will not lead us to a different kingdom. But in anyones life we must make sure our pursuit is not contrary to the holiness of God's word and the mission of Jesus. That may not have made sense but to explain, I'm all for women as preachers but understand that there is a line in which we must be careful. For those who are for more traditional approaches I can understand as well but their is a line that can easily be crossed. We must not taint the message of the gospel but rather let it take root in the lives of others through the story of the bible. Not use it for simply personal freedom contrary to spirit and we can not use it to control or oppress people contrary to the spirit either! I hope this made sense! Thanks for reading and pursuing the word of God!
@Dan Sutton I hear what you are saying. My opening statement is more to the comment of just follow God's word and your response adds to what I was trying to get at. I love having theological discussions but also know the best forum is not online as we ca not be in a clear back in forth but any place that can edify and people can hear/ share ideas I love. Any how what I meant by my comment is I agree with the statement of follow Gods word but the thing is it turns out a lot of times it is not follow Gods word it is follow Gods word the way I follow Gods word and it will be okay. That is why I said it is not as clear as we want it to be. To you you feel really strongly and clearly on subject matters such as this and it is clear you have done your research and read your commentaries ect and that is where following God's word has lead you. However there are others who by following Gods word reading other commentaries, reading other works of Paul and stories of Jesus that have been lead to a different stance than your self on subject matters such as this. So what I was trying to communicate in the terms of Gods word is not as clear as we want it to be is when people make the comments of when in doubt follow God there is usually a preset theological thought behind that. When someone says follow God when in doubt they are saying it with what they believe it means to follow God that is why these comments are not as simple or as clear as we want them to be. That is why I went on to say people can dis agree yet still follow God's word. Again I agree with when in doubt follow God's word and that the scriptures are the foundation but because we have have different traditions, experiences and reasoning we may not all see or agree on every concept of religion.
@Dan Sutton again again we agree on the most important stuff being Gods sovertinty! We also disagree on other things which is okay! Appreciate you sharing!
@Dan Sutton Good thing im living into the two greatest commandments. Scripiture is beautiful and Gods word and I love it. I follow the God of the bible and the trinity so if you follow the trinity then we do follow the same God! If you do not see it that way thats fine we just have different heremunitical and theological perpectives but i hope people can see through these comments and through topics such as the one at hand that God is bigger than ourselves and that there are different viewpoints out there that can be simitaneously rooted in God and different from your own intrepretation!
If you follow Messiah your are following the word made flesh, the word is the law. If you follow Messiah(Yeshua), you are following the law, if he's in your heart, you have the law in your heart. The punishment for sin is death, grace is your pardon from death, though its not a free pass to go on and sin.
People always want what they can't have. As a man I can never enjoy nursing a child, God has reserved that role for women, just as being a pastor of a church is reserved for a man. The problem I see is not enough men are stepping up to be pastors so there's a void of good leadership in many churches nowadays.
Thanks, Dr. Wellum. One of my best seminary professors. Wife Karen was very kind to my wife when she worked as a nurse at the hospital where my wife delivered one of our children. Great man and woman of God. God bless them.
Exactly. How did he not mention that? Pheobe being mentioned as a servant emphasized function. Paul's mention of deacons was referring to an office. That's reserved for men.
What is a deacon? WhT is a pastor? What is a minister? What is a preacher? WhT is a priest? WhT is servant of God? What is a missionary?where did these terms com from? Be a follower of Of God which Jesus taught. Love one another. Why ?? Because God use who God wish to spread God ,s work.

Huge lack of patience in some comments. Foundation and background are important, and I appreciate the whole context being laid out - instead of a "fast food" explanation, which can be dangerous.
@@TheSaintberzerker There's also a scripture that says "Do not look upon the wine when it is red". Have YOU ever seen "red wine"? Oh, I sure hope not - based on that single sentence!....OR.....is there a little more to that passage of scripture? Actually, Paul had a lengthy elaboration to both the Corinthians and the Ephesians, covering both men and women. Not only that, but there are plenty of folks who use the likes of notable, biblical women like Esther, Ruth, Tabitha, Rhoda, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of Christ herself, to roll over the notion of what the topic at hand is, and using their influence as a chance that maybe women can possible preach or teach......assuming Paul was mistaken by his own feelings. Paul's account alone makes absolutely no sense without knowing what God Himself FIRST has established. Paul wouldn't even speak of such things without first knowing the Genesis account of the order described by God. Paul doesn't make rules or laws on his own. He elaborates on what is already in place. If we go by a "single" sentence, then it would appear as if Paul is overstepping the authority of God. Let's keep in mind the folks...based on my original comment...that only look for fragments and not the whole. The Bible is a whole. Without the old, you don't have the new. Without a foundation, you don't have a building. If someone is absolutely FRESH to the Bible, and that "single sentence" is all they hear or read, then all they have is a rule - spat out by some random man.
@@setxapart5505 very well said. I am sometimes tempted to give one word answers without context to certain things but a lot of biblical questions require longer answers and deeper context as to why something is the way it is.
I’m not disagreeing that there is some lack of patience comments, but friend, look in the context of our modern times. With the rise of social justice affecting many churches negatively, people want the word of God proclaimed. I agree, I love context! But he should’ve answered “no” first then gone through the other info. It’s like if you live in a culture that believes in cannibalism, I hope you wouldn’t wait 10 minutes to tell them it’s wrong... I understand short attention spans is an issue nowadays, but trust me, a lot of the comments I’ve seen are people who want men of God to stand up and proudly proclaim the truth. From another perspective, it looks as if he’s laying down soft and cushy mattresses for 10 minutes to hopefully not offend any woman with his answer of “no”. That rubs people the wrong way because the world is pushing for women preachers like never before, the church needs men who can give context, but also men who will stand for the truth, even if the truth will make them look like a sexist in the eyes of the world

What's with all the people in the comments demanding a quick answer? As if this topic has not caused a lot of hurt and confusion. It demands careful examination. If you do not allow the space needed to carefully discuss the truth and what the Scripture means, then you are not acting in love. This answer seems as sure and comprehensive a one as you are liable to get in the space of a ten minute video, and it is delivered with quite a bit of awareness of why this question is important. Pay attention to the needs of love rather than getting into such insensitive huffs.
@Fubzilla I agree, it's not a question of love, it's a question of objective biblical truth. The bible very simply buy explicitly says NO. There is not even much point of a video because this is simple biblical truth. If someone is hurt by this it's because they are out of touch with Gods truth. If someone is led by the spirit they do not get hurt by Gods precepts they humbly obey, they surrender to Gods will.
@X.X. X.X. Black is black, white is white, not because I said it but because it is objectively true. Invariably, people who have made up their minds to be disobedient with start to argue that black is grey and white is light grey. Its crystal clear in the bible and in practice that women are not to preach. The devil quotes and interprets scripture too, but the Holy Spirit will lead a humble believer into all truth. You know it's the truth because the word says it and you will also have the inner witness of the Holy Spirit. Also, if you have true love for God you will not do things contrary to His will. Love rejoices not in iniquity. Love rejoices in truth.
Simeon du Toit Right, It shouldn’t take a 10 minute video. The Bible couldn’t be more clear. The answer is NO. How long did that take? God is love. To take away or add one Word is to have your name removed from the book. God don’t compromise because of silly ideological ideas. Buddy, if you're saying that we lay aside ordained doctrine 1 Tim. 2:12, in the interest of some twisted worldly concept of 'love', then you have a real problem. Get over your feelings, if you're led by your feelings you're not being led by the Holy Spirit.
Paul also says that anyone who is divorced can not be a leader in the church, and anyone who has a sin they don't repent from should be kicked out of the church. It's interesting the rules people choose to follow and not follow.
I was just thinking this. It's funny how he speaks of understanding in the "context of today," and explains how we view these titles in the modern day, but then takes the scripture literally.
Steven Irizarry lol. Sounds like you’re upset that I don’t agree that Timothy’s opinion in 1 Timothy 2:12 holds more weight than the evidence and legacy of Christ’s ministry of loving and encouraging women to spread the gospel as seen in Matthew 28:5-10, John 4 or even Romans 16. Or maybe it’s the fact that you have no authority to prevent women like me from preaching that’s got you so upset....
Steven Irizarry Steven Irizarry Unlike you, I didn’t come to a RUclips page to argue. You wrote that entire essay in response to a sentence from me- rebuking me and calling me lukewarm, as if you’ve ever met me. Meanwhile the truth is that I came to this video to continue running from my call, only to find peace with it. I would like to thank you, as well, for your adamant condemnation continues to solidify the legitimacy of the female voice and perspective in today’s church. Also, you seem a bit confused. Since I do read and study my Bible, I would suggest scripture to refer to, but it’s clear that your conservatism will prevent you from seeing an alternative perspective and studying the text in the context in which it was written for the deepest meaning and understanding. So a few thoughts, for this last post of mine on this thread. 1. Please define what you’re actually rebuking. You’re mad about women preaching, but still say that it is not exercising spiritual authority. Pick a position. You seem to just be vindictive against women. 2. The ‘many’ in the verse you paraphrased includes men too. Be concerned about the stick in your eye and not the speck you think you’ve discerned in mine. 3. You cannot bully or guilt people into repentance. Your tactics are directly against Jesus’ example of love. Your judgment is gross and you are an example of why the church is dying today. You stand on a platform of self made righteousness. Sad to see. I reject everything you’ve said here, for many reasons, but primarily because you’ve given me examples of why you’re correct using only church doctrine and protocols. Christianity was illegal until almost 300 years after Christ’s resurrection. I wonder how many women were actually suppressed in that time, not just the ones we know of, where we were considered nothing more than walking wombs. Considering I’m actually in seminary, your pieced together argument is laughable because of its disjointed nature; lacking facts you choose to ignore because they don’t fit what you’ve been taught is truth. I would share the writings of women who defended the church and were killed for speaking out, in its formation, such as Perpetua and Felicitas and Mary Magdalene, but you would simply write them off, because just as their voices were ignored and suppressed in ancient times, you and your ilk tend to do the same. Mary was a trusted disciple who even comforted Peter and Andrew, at their request, in the early days after Christ was crucified. There’s a reason the church split after the first 8 ecumenical councils. The Eastern churches believed that as the Western churches sought to ‘define’ the faith further, it simply resulted in persecution, ie the Catholic Church of old, trickling down into the splitting of denominations we have today. Elders, bishops, etc came from this- which is irrelevant to to what I’m discussing. These titles are a result of power hungry men, seeking to justify their contempt thru twisting God’s word. You speak of the Greek word meaning servant. Ironic- because we are ALL servants. Your argument reminds me of Jesus’ words in Matthew 18. I still find it hilarious that men choose to focus on hierarchy to satisfy their egos. Finally, I pose the same questions you posed to me- do you actually read your Bible, or are you simply a record player for what your leadership has taught you? You clearly take into account that only men made decisions in forming the Bible, our beliefs and the perspectives you hold dear. So how then, can you ignore the logic that women, created as help mates, have a valid position in helping men in all- living life and understanding our spirituality? I have no quarrel with the argument of man being in leadership of women- but only in the context of marriage. Jesus walked with women from the beginning of his ministry- Mary, Joanna and Susanna. He clearly valued them and their perspective enough to teach them and learn from them. How do you justify ignoring women in today’s context? Or are you so biased that you approach the scriptures to justify your perspective, and do not allow the Word to read and change you? I chose to attend seminary at the urging of the Holy Spirit, confirmed by my Baptist Pastor, Apostolic Uncle, who is a Pastor and I attend a church who reformed their Baptist beliefs that women cannot preach, after decades of supporting this argument. I pray that you too, can un-harden your heart and release the anger you’re clinging to and exchange it for truth. Hopefully that’s not too sugar coated for you and you can refrain from rebuking strangers with misspelled colloquiums and incorrect doctrine on RUclips.
I knew the answer was no because I read scripture for myself however I appreciate the time he takes in explaining. Christians must get to a place of “speak the truth in love”. Because sometimes new believers need the extra care the extra time the patience and explanation. Which sidebar is a fruit of the spirit - patience. The answer is still the same but the way we explain the scripture to someone just might set them free. Just as it says! ✝️🔥🙌🏾
Do you use a veil to cover your head when you go to church? Certain scriptures were written specifically for that time being and people’s present situations. If I were to follow every single practice for woman given by these two disciples, we would to start wearing veils, and sit on one side of the church separate from men. Read 1 Corinthians 11. The Jesus I read on the Bible and have a relationship with tells me I am the sanctuary, I am made to declare his praises and shine his glory, with my life, testimony, with preaching and caring for/to others. So many woman are gifted with communication and leadership skills, God gifted them for a reason. So many people are loosing their lives without a Savior, the point is, the gospel needs to be preached, whether it’s from the mouth of woman or a man. We are to preach and LEAD people to Christ wherever we are, the building called church is just a place we go to encourage and be encouraged.
Sofia Hartley the word is clear on this matter. Either we submit to it or not. The Bible specifically says Gods word does NOT change. Not for anyone at anytime and place. Culture doesn’t change it. Not one single place in scripture does a women get called to be a pastor or a preacher or a elder of the church. YET it does say we can TEACH younger women the ways of leading a Godly life and the word of God. We can lead Bible studies with women and children. Men are to lead the entire body at church. You must ask yourself why are you not accepting what God has said in His word. Christ is the Head Husbands submit to him wives submit to husbands. That is Godly order. We either submit to Gods Plan and order for our lives our not. You cannot take scripture out of context. Using your argument that some verse were For back then is completely wrong. Because ALL verses were for back then and that would mean NONE of them apply to us. Please think who tells us which verse we get to pick and choose that remain? That doesn’t make since. And how then do we agree on those scriptures? That would confuse the body and God is NOT a author of confusion. All Of Gods word applies yesterday today and forever. It does not change. Not even if we don’t agree or can’t understand it. Pray to the Holy Spirit that you align your life FULLY with Gods word. Ask Him to reveal the truth to you. Not you reveal the truth to it.
I understand submission and that is what I practice at home, being submissive to your husband, has nothing to do with being forbidden by God to speak, preach, or lead. Woman can be submissive, and yet practice their gifts and talents given by their Father. The word of God never changes and never will, and that’s why I believe God has called ALL of us to go and make disciples, not just men. Just wanted to give a different perspective - we are the sanctuary, if we are the sanctuary, than we must go, we must preach, we must lead people to the Lord. But when I come home, I feel blessed to have a husband who is my head, and Christ who is the head of all. God bless you, and I also hope you’ll find a VOICE in the Kingdom of God.
Sofia Hartley I am a studied educated teacher of the word of God. I love the word. I love studying it and aligning my life to mirror it. I have a question you must ask yourself. Why submit to your husband then? The same apostle that wrote about submission wrote about women having g authority over a men in church. Why are you picking which applies to you and which doesn’t. Honestly? Please think about that. Submission is a historical concept as well. Men leading is a part of patriarchal historical concept as well. Yet now our society is trying to move away from that. 1 Tim 2:12 is clear. Men are the pastors. They are the teachers of the word during church service. Why is that not ok with you? If you read every place a person is called to lead the entire flock men are called up. Why would the creator of Women leave us out and not call us up IF he willed it so. Also yes Matthew 28 applies to ALL of Gods children. We are called to spread the gospel to all people and all nations. Everyone can do that without being a pastor. As I mentioned I do that all the time weekly at a bible study. Verse by verse understanding the full truth with women. I’m blessed and loved doing it. And I blessed to teach my children about their faith. Teach them how to study the word and understand it correctly. But here we are talking specifically about Church service. The pastor of the church. That’s a mans role. Just like it’s a women role to carry the child and birth him or her. You don’t see men crying out to God I want to make a baby! So final thought I’ll leave with you. Again you are picking which scriptures apply to you and which don’t. That’s very dangerous my Christian Sister. It opens the door for you to ignore other scriptures. Please please remember what 2 Tim 3 16-17 says. It reads that ALL scripture is God inspired. ALL each and every word. And as we mentioned before 1 Peter 1:25 says The Word of The Lord REMAINS Forever. So either you believe the Lord and what He says or you don’t. Trust me I know it’s hard. My husband is a preacher. And if ever the Lord calls him to lead a church my flesh wants to preach to. Because I too am gifted in communication. YET I lay down my flesh and align it with the word. I will use my gifts where God has ordained them to be used. Leading my children and teaching WOMEN the word of God. Both are my calling and my hearts joy! Please pray in it. And Listen to preachers who really TEACH the scriptures because it’s the truth that will set you free! you and I aren’t the only ones who see this differently. One day the people of God will stop looking like the society around us and start being images of our Savior Jesus! God Bless! 😘✝️🙌🏾

1 Corinthians 14 : 33-40 1 Timothy 2 : 11,10 If this was written about any other commandment, and labeled as such, there wouldn't be any issue. When Paul addresses women not taking authority in 2Timothy, he takes us back to Genesis. He therefore isn't just saying something about women from that time, but from all time. this is a topic that most modern-day churches seem to ignore. God has a divine order and it is beyond time and culture. Leadership or headship was always been reserved for the males (high priest, Rabbi's, Officers, General's, etc) and there were no rebuttals for centuries until the 20th century. Now we live in a society where you can be and do whatever the heart desires to do while also ignore God's divine order in favor for emotionalism and sensationalism.
No rebuttals? Respectfully, it’s ironic how you talk about history and conveniently leave out the many times women have challenged this stance throughout history. Our generation is surely not unique in that regard. I also seriously don’t understand how people who hold vigorously to this teaching seem to forget Deborah. Esther. Mary. Abigail. Priscilla. Etc.
@@prophetic_dreams_and_visions "And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, judged Israel at that time". Judges 4:4. She judged Israel. God appointed her. Amazing how God can change a narrative if he desires to. She is the only woman in scripture named in that position.
"Women pastors / preachers? Can a woman be a pastor or preacher?" Answer: There is perhaps no more hotly debated issue in the church today than the issue of women serving as pastors/preachers. As a result, it is very important to not see this issue as men versus women. There are women who believe women should not serve as pastors and that the Bible places restrictions on the ministry of women, and there are men who believe women can serve as preachers and that there are no restrictions on women in ministry. This is not an issue of chauvinism or discrimination. It is an issue of biblical interpretation. The Word of God proclaims, “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent” (1 Timothy 2:11-12). In the church, God assigns different roles to men and women. This is a result of the way mankind was created and the way in which sin entered the world (1 Timothy 2:13-14). God, through the apostle Paul, restricts women from serving in roles of teaching and/or having spiritual authority over men. This precludes women from serving as pastors over men, which definitely includes preaching to them, teaching them publicly, and exercising spiritual authority over them. There are many objections to this view of women in pastoral ministry. A common one is that Paul restricts women from teaching because in the first century, women were typically uneducated. However, 1 Timothy 2:11-14 nowhere mentions educational status. If education were a qualification for ministry, then the majority of Jesus’ disciples would not have been qualified. A second common objection is that Paul only restricted the women of Ephesus from teaching men (1 Timothy was written to Timothy, the pastor of the church in Ephesus). Ephesus was known for its temple to Artemis, and women were the authorities in that branch of paganism-therefore, the theory goes, Paul was only reacting against the female-led customs of the Ephesian idolaters, and the church needed to be different. However, the book of 1 Timothy nowhere mentions Artemis, nor does Paul mention the standard practice of Artemis worshipers as a reason for the restrictions in 1 Timothy 2:11-12. A third objection is that Paul is only referring to husbands and wives, not men and women in general. The Greek words for “woman” and “man” in 1 Timothy 2 could refer to husbands and wives; however, the basic meaning of the words is broader than that. Further, the same Greek words are used in verses 8-10. Are only husbands to lift up holy hands in prayer without anger and disputing (verse 8)? Are only wives to dress modestly, have good deeds, and worship God (verses 9-10)? Of course not. Verses 8-10 clearly refer to all men and women, not just husbands and wives. There is nothing in the context that would indicate a narrowing to husbands and wives in verses 11-14. Yet another objection to this interpretation of women in pastoral ministry is in relation to women who held positions of leadership in the Bible, specifically Miriam, Deborah, and Huldah in the Old Testament. It is true that these women were chosen by God for special service to Him and that they stand as models of faith, courage, and, yes, leadership. However, the authority of women in the Old Testament is not relevant to the issue of pastors in the church. The New Testament Epistles present a new paradigm for God’s people-the church, the body of Christ-and that paradigm involves an authority structure unique to the church, not for the nation of Israel or any other Old Testament entity. Similar arguments are made using Priscilla and Phoebe in the New Testament. In Acts 18, Priscilla and Aquila are presented as faithful ministers for Christ. Priscilla’s name is mentioned first, perhaps indicating that she was more prominent in ministry than her husband. Did Priscilla and her husband teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to Apollos? Yes, in their home they “explained to him the way of God more adequately” (Acts 18:26). Does the Bible ever say that Priscilla pastored a church or taught publicly or became the spiritual leader of a congregation of saints? No. As far as we know, Priscilla was not involved in ministry activity in contradiction to 1 Timothy 2:11-14. In Romans 16:1, Phoebe is called a “deacon” (or “servant”) in the church and is highly commended by Paul. But, as with Priscilla, there is nothing in Scripture to indicate that Phoebe was a pastor or a teacher of men in the church. “Able to teach” is given as a qualification for elders, but not for deacons (1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:6-9). The structure of 1 Timothy 2:11-14 makes the reason why women cannot be pastors perfectly clear. Verse 13 begins with “for,” giving the “cause” of Paul’s statement in verses 11-12. Why should women not teach or have authority over men? Because “Adam was created first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived” (verses 13-14). God created Adam first and then created Eve to be a “helper” for Adam. The order of creation has universal application in the family (Ephesians 5:22-33) and in the church. The fact that Eve was deceived is also given in 1 Timothy 2:14 as a reason for women not serving as pastors or having spiritual authority over men. This does not mean that women are gullible or that they are all more easily deceived than men. If all women are more easily deceived, why would they be allowed to teach children (who are easily deceived) and other women (who are supposedly more easily deceived)? The text simply says that women are not to teach men or have spiritual authority over men because Eve was deceived. God has chosen to give men the primary teaching authority in the church. Many women excel in gifts of hospitality, mercy, teaching, evangelism, and helping/serving. Much of the ministry of the local church depends on women. Women in the church are not restricted from public praying or prophesying (1 Corinthians 11:5), only from having spiritual teaching authority over men. The Bible nowhere restricts women from exercising the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12). Women, just as much as men, are called to minister to others, to demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and to proclaim the gospel to the lost (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Peter 3:15). God has ordained that only men are to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church. This is not because men are necessarily better teachers or because women are inferior or less intelligent (which is not the case). It is simply the way God designed the church to function. Men are to set the example in spiritual leadership-in their lives and through their words. Women are to take a less authoritative role. Women are encouraged to teach other women (Titus 2:3-5). The Bible also does not restrict women from teaching children. The only activity women are restricted from is teaching or having spiritual authority over men. This precludes women from serving as pastors to men. This does not make women less important, by any means, but rather gives them a ministry focus more in agreement with God’s plan and His gifting of them.
@Ronald Evers as a woman I couldn't have stated it any better than you. I'm in total agreement with. Until the Holy Spirit reveals to me something else, I'm in total agreement. I was just telling a friend of mine this same thing. We women can be an Evangelist, Prophetess, and a teacher. To hold the Apostleship or Pastoral offices. . . NO! There is a divine order to all things. Can we have an apostolic anointing? Yes! Other than that I just don't think we should pastor because it's not biblical. Now God can call whom He wants. The times we're living in the priesthood is profaned, but not all.
Thanks for your efforts in My understanding on this is that the logic seems adequate unless you know & take in to consideration... A. More of the whole council of scripture in context. B. How Pharisees as teachers using the Hebrew traditional ways to argue scripture to come to an Halchic decision of interpretation of scripture. Paul was applying these & if ignored or not understood; interpretation of Paul's intended meaning is mistaken as per 2 Peter 3:17 C. The order sequence of the Greek in some areas has been somewhat manipulated to arrive @ the English translation to suggest differences not actually in the underlying text,....and @ times opposite to what has been given. D. At times the definition of a Greek word is utilised from a range of accurate meanings to only suggest a doctrinal preference in the reading stance. These can been shown to cause disharmony when the whole body of scripture is taken into account. Like women can't speak in an assembly but women are also said to be involved in prayer and prophecy which seems to require verbal audible communication. E. Letters generally are written with an understanding of the recipient's cultural reality, so every issue is not necessarily written out like a treatise for us in the 21century. The letter is personal & there are common comprehensions of the issues involved without writing in great depth when addressing them. Paul's letters are often responses to needs of the community. If we need to go outside scripture when necessary to rebuild accurate cultural context to grasp a hold of what is going on, we should carefully set about to do it. It may be absolutely necessary to maintain any chance of understanding what the letter actually means. The aim being to arrive @ sound Bible exegesis. 1. Paul himself would not have qualified as a teacher being without a wife as he clearly states, in desiring those in faith to stay like him..single although they don't sin if they do marry. 2. It is traditional for the time to refer to scripture, which was only the OT as Paul wrote these letters with the readers expected to either know or ask for the greater context of the short reference given. In regards to the reference to Adam & Eve it is the argument to squash the incorrect disruptive pagan eons story of Creation being circulated by gentiles women coming into faith in this assembly but unaware of how God the Father created. The subject of the Creation Story is in view in & has nothing to do with which sex is fit to teach and if it is applied as such neither men nor women would be fit as one was deceived & the other willingly ate. The subject is about teaching God's Word with accuracy & stopping discord in an assembly & in the Greek, the women doing this are called to learn in quietness peaceably just as much as it could be translated silence. Hello Ronald just wondering if you have looked at my earlier reply. Not sure if you have. God's word can proclaims a lot of doctrine in translation. The Greek in 1 Tim can very adequately & accurately be rendered as quietly peacefully as in good learning behaviour in the classroom. You correctly state no educational status is required, so the argument about women not being educated & therefor not likely to be useful in teaching is fallacious in fact. Verbal education was the norm as the parchments or papyrus were so expensive that many only had access to them verbally anyway. Through out the Bible it is hearing and doing the Word of God that is the instruction and yes some where in a better position to do that as being able in reading and writing but your argument reduces the influence the heard Word of God has on the heart inspired by the Spirit of God. The restriction for women having authority to teach over men was naturally restricted in this instance as the assembly was in in disarray due to arguments between those understanding Truth from the scriptures because they had heard and believed the Truth and those in this assembly; specific women who were proclaiming the Greek belief of eons as the creation story. This was not a letter that was notated to be circulated to all assemblies either so generalising may be a mindset you have brought to the document because of earlier training. Paul specifically gives the reference to the Adam and Eve story of the true Creation by the Father to not just show the intense ignorance of these women of scripture. You may not be aware but Paul being a Pharisee trained under Gamaliel used the classic argument style of the religious Jew to bring forth a halachic decision. Typically in this format the Rabbi (Paul ) puts forth his reasoning by referencing a short portion of scripture re: Adam and Eve and would have expected his listeners to either know the whole referenced story ( not just a verse or two ) to keep contextual alignment and if they did not know...the expectation was to find it out so they would understand the Rabbi (Paul's) halachic ruling decision. Paul as a disciple originally of Gamaliel had to memorise the whole Hebrew Bible so that is another reason Yeshua chose him to go and proclaim the Gospel to the Gentiles. He didn't have to carry a whole Torah role everywhere he was one ! Be blessed Brother in finding and doing truth, Kind regards in Christ FJ

@@TheJs4567 Most translations including KJV says 'servant" while some others say "deacon or deaconess" Servant is one who serves or a devoted and helpful follower or supporter which can be male or female. Deacon derives from the Greek word diakonos which has 4 basic meanings "servant", "waiting-man", "minister" or "messenger". Deaconess derives from the Greek word Diakonissa which is a title of honor that is used to refer to a deacon's wife. Since the text in Romans 16:1-4 doesn't state that Phoebe was married than she's not a Deaconess. Also since she is not a man, according to 1 Tim 3:12 she cannot be a Deacon. So the KJV of "servant" is more accurate.

While the ministry of women is essential to the church’s proper working and health, only men are given the responsibility to serve as pastors and elders. Although Scripture is quite clear on this point, there are many individuals, churches, and denominations that choose to disobey the Lord’s will in this regard and allow women to function in pastoral and teaching roles. But God’s church will be blessed and will honor Him only as it follows the plan He has revealed in the Bible. The clearest biblical teaching on this issue is found in 1 Timothy 2:12: “But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.” This command comes in a section of 1 Timothy which teaches about the functioning of a local church. Some people believe when the apostle Paul wrote that a woman should not “teach or exercise authority over a man,” he was conforming to a unique situation in the city of Ephesus or to the cultural value system of the time, but that is not the case. Notice in the next verse Paul refers back to God’s original design for man and woman: “For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve” (1 Timothy 2:13). This proves God wants His created design of male leadership and female submission in the family to extend into the functioning of the church. On certain issues, the concerns and goals of the modern feminist agenda are in agreement with God’s standards. For instance, they agree women should not be discriminated against in the workplace but should be afforded equal opportunities with men. They also rightfully condemn violence against women. At the same time, however, the modern feminist movement frequently contradicts Scripture regarding the roles of women. For instance, some of the key goals of feminism are to protect a woman’s right to abort her baby, to affirm lesbianism, and to promote the idea that there is no distinction between men and women’s leadership roles in the family and the church. These contradictions with God’s Word are not incidental but evidence a fundamental error in feminist philosophy which can be traced back to the original fall of mankind into sin. The events recorded in Genesis 3 explain how the feminists’ opposition to God’s plan began. When God created Adam and Eve, He designed a productive and perfect balance between the nurturing leadership of a man and the supportive following of a woman in marriage. After God created Adam, He said, “It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him” (Genesis 2:18). A few verses later we read how God created Eve: “So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.’ For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:21-24). When Adam and Eve sinned, God’s perfect plan was perverted by the depravity in the hearts of men and women. Adam sinned by stepping out from under God’s authority when he ate the divinely forbidden fruit, and Eve chose to reject the authority of both Adam and the Lord. One of the consequences of their sin was the corruption of the complementary relationship between man and woman. Genesis 3:16 records what the Lord told Eve: “Yet your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.” The desire Eve would have toward Adam is not a good kind of desire but a desire to conquer or overcome. You can see this in Genesis 4:7 where the same word describes what sin would do to Cain: “Sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it” [emphasis added]. From that time on, one of the expressions of sin in women would be the tendency to break out of God’s intended supporting and following role. At the same time, men’s sinful tendency would be to neglect their responsibility to love and lead their wives, dominating them instead. God’s perfect plan can be implemented and enjoyed in marriages and churches only when sinners receive new hearts of humility and obedience. It is only when men and women submit to God’s way that they will experience the greatest blessing. The differing roles of men and women in marriage and the church should not lead us to believe there is any kind of inequality personally or spiritually between the genders. In the Word of God the principles of gender equality and women’s submission exist side by side. Genesis 1:26-27 reads, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Men and women are created equally with a likeness to God. They share dominion over all creation and are both commanded to rule over it. The second chapter of Genesis contains a more detailed recounting of the creation of Adam and Eve in which we see the divinely ordained functional ordering of leadership and submission between man and woman. Adam was created first (2:7), and Eve was created later in order to be a complement and helper to him (2:20-23). It is this creation order Paul mentions to support God’s intention for male leadership in the church (1 Timothy 2:13). This is the reason why the roles of pastors and elders are limited to men in the church.

@@madjack821 For the past 500 years there have been reliable English translation of the Bible that have been used by English speaking Protestants as the primary way of understanding what the Bible teaches. These translations were done so that scholars of Greek and Hebrew and Latin did not have a stranglehold on biblical meaning and interpretation. The translators took great care to make sure they translated the meaning of the Greek and Hebrew correctly so that all English speakers could debate biblical teaching on an equal footing with priests, bishops and popes. The Catholic Church burnt some of them at the stake for doing this. Since then thousands of trained Greek and Hebrew scholars of all denominations have checked and rechecked their work finding little need for correction. Suddenly lately,"pastors," usually with a single semester class in NT Greek if that, are "discovering" new translations which radically challenge key teachings of the Church that have been agreed upon for 500- 2000 years. This dishonors that 500 year work of translations AND more importantly seeks to put you subject to their own "superior" understanding of the Bible which you may not challenge just like the old popes did.
Not according to God's Word. Remember: Eve was deceived and Adam was not. I am a woman, and this has absolutely nothing to do with equal rights. It has to do with God's order in the church. I think the body of Christ is failing to remember that Christ is the head of the church and we as members comprise the body. Man has no right to usurp authority over Christ. But it's happening all the time, everywhere in the churches. And that is in direct disobedience to Christ himself. He is the head and Savior of the body. but if we go back to the Book of Genesis, let's not forget the curse that God spoke over women. It is a womans in nature, because of the Fall, to want to dominate and usurp authority over men. It's a control issue. And when women take leadership positions in the church they are in direct violation of Christ's teachings. I hope somebody gets this. Blessings 💕
Hi Lois this is a little of subject but I thought you may find it ouf interest. In the Hebrew the woman was made as the Ezer Kenidgo which is like the one who helps him by opposing him with strength to keep him on God's Path. Eve Hebrew name Chava failed in the role by choosing to listen to another gospel from Satan and disobeying a food command & losing her holiness. In Christ the image of men and women is renewed and that is why when we are faithful to Christ both male and female in marriage become one again. The image when it is degraded is a woman lording it over a man and belittling & misguiding but in the true image, deep mutual respect between husband and wife allow for the wisdom that God imparts to the woman by the Holy Spirit (not satan this time) for her husband's benefit to be forthcoming and received in a mutual way. This is true submission and love to make an actual one flesh & spirit before God. Blessings FJ
Barry Blackwood you just said a bunch of words that meant nothing. Provide scripture or don’t say anything about the subject. Gods word is the only truth, man is deceived always only his word can sharpen is
Yet Adam sinned knowingly, and that somehow qualifies men to shepherd? Actually, the bible indicates that Eve was the lesser transgressor because she was deceived, whereas Adam received the direct command from God and chose to rebel. And thus, her eyes were not open till he ate, and through him sin and death reigned. Given that Paul fears the men and women of the church will be deceived - there is no indication women are more prone to deception than men. Indeed, men are often the false teachers. The ethic is that all should received instruction in quietude, sober-minded, and without anger or division so that knowledge of God replaces old wives tales and pagan ways.

I've read many comments that are just saying "it is clearly this other way instead", but Dr. Stephen is considering carefully what the original text says, and as a Bible student trying to use the original text whenever I can, I can affirm after him that this is not a clear thing in the Scripture. For me his is the best answer, not these other simplistic incisive ones. In what the Bible clearly states, Dr. Stephen has stated in Its authority, but in what It doesn't... then it would be dishonest to anyone state in Its behalf, ignoring the dilemma.
That's because the question should have been can a woman lead a man in worship, prayer, or bible study. That answer is a clear no. Remember friend, the Lord is no author of confusion. The scripture is simple, making sure no one gets their feelings hurt is complicated.
André Peixoto You are really over complicating the issue. The scriptures are very very clear on the issue of leaders and teachers, and this is more than adequately supported contextually. Women are not permitted to teach nor have authority over the men.
André Peixoto Sure. Why should we go with a direct answer in the Bible, when you can listen to a denomination (choose carefully. What a gracious way of covering a topic that can be challenging for folks. One point he didn't mention: The same term for "helper" used in Genesis to describe Eve is also used to describe God! Does that sound like a demeaning term to you? Different roles, equal value. We need leaders. We need helpers. God know best.
The Scriptures are very clear for a deacon's stature and capacity in 1Timothy. A deacon is to be the husband of one wife--period! It's not really fair for the video presenter to breakdown the Scriptures to degrees of authoritative holding between the male & female genders. I mean, does he really think the Saint Apostle Paul would have even cared about that?! But that's what happens when you combine the Scriptures with modern-day values and educated guesses. It's either you know the Scriptures or you don't. "Nuff said!!!
Good summary of what the Bible says. Thanks for the video and instruction. Despite what the stooges in the comments say, I'm glad we get instruction here on the context of the Bible, and different applications of verses, and a straight up admission that 1 Timothy 3:11 is not perfectly clear on the translated word for wives. Humble and honest answer that considers the whole counsel of God's Word.
Good job prof! Defined it and nailed it!! What a good steward of the Word must do. Discipleship is not only what, but why. He accomplished the task here in a shorter time than it could take to make the case.
1 Tim 3:12 is clear. If the bible says something clearly in one place...it doesn't contradict itself. God only has to say it once to be truth. Having said that, a Pastor or Deacon can't be a woman & be the husband of one WIFE. Unless u believe in homosexual church leadership. This guy should be fired...his logic is someone Paul would have corrected very fast.
No he did not nail it he actually is wrong and has come up with an explanation that makes himself and people feel good rather than actually take the word for what it says
In 1 Corinthians 14 Paul discusses the matter of spiritual gifts in the first century church. After instructing the church that those who speak in tongues had to "keep silent" if there was no interpreter, and that one prophet had to "keep silent" if another prophet was speaking, he says, "Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church." (1 Corinthians 14:34-35). To this passage is attached the following admonition, "If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord." (1 Cor. 14:37).
I'll be praying for the people in these comments (I'm not just saying that) who do not read Scripture within context. It's easy to take words right off the page folks, but it's more meaningful to study the Bible critically, contextually, historically -- that's when the story really comes alive.
Brady Young - I agree with you that scripture must be studied faithfully and in context. If you just take a verse here and a verse there you can pretty much make the Bible say anything you want it to. Having said that, it’s not clear from your comment how you feel about the matter. What do you believe scripture as a whole teaches on this matter? Just to be clear, this is not a set up I am sincerely interested in what you believe to be truth in this matter.
Hi Thom, I appreciate your concern. For me, it's very simple. I'm sure we can both agree that everyone is made in God's image (Genesis 1:27); therefore we are all created equal. That means everyone should have the same opportunity. The God I know, love, and trust does not close His doors to people because of their biological differences (that they had no say in). If I have a daughter some day and she tells me that she wants to be a pastor, I'm supposed to tell her that God doesn't want her to be because she's a girl??? C'mon now. Might I ask, do you also agree that women should be silent in Church (1 Corinthians 14:34)? If not, why would you use the literal interpretation in 1 Timothy, yet it is not appropriate for 1 Corinthians?
Brady Young - Thanks great response, I believe that we are all created equally as well but was God not clear on differences between the man and the woman in the Genesis story? God has made those that choose to follow Him, sons and daughters; but that doesn't mean we all have the same "office" or role within His plan. In your comment above clearly personal emotion has some bearing on your answer, you have concerns for the children that you may have some day, as any father should. But I would refer back to your original statement about taking scripture out of context. It seems in today's social environment that my response could be taken as chauvinistic or even bigoted in nature. I assure you that this is not where my questions or statements come from. In fact, a lot of what I am asking or even stating comes with the question as to "what is the true answer of God on the matter?" It is easy to look at areas in society today where the “church” has walked away from God's plan, or His Word in the light of modernization, or societal change and think how much we have destroyed our witness in the world. Do we compromise in order that the world will be more tolerant of us? When has the church ever chosen the way of the world and had a positive result come from it? We aren't making disciples and are lucky if we are even used to help usher in real converts. Why do you think that is? It certainly isn’t because we haven’t made every effort to make a friend out of the world....
I grew up in a church that held the same position as you, and I don't think they were bigots or had bad intentions, so please know that this is not a personal attack in any way -- I can tell your intentions are good and it's obviously important to hold a high view of Scripture. You could say that my emotions are wrapped in the issue, but it's not driving my thinking. We (people in general) certainly are not built to have the same office or role within His plan -- that's the beauty of unique callings. My problem is when we are keeping people out of opportunities just because there are a couple Scriptures that seem pretty clear about a given topic. In other words, I cannot stand behind a theology that ever disadvantages someone. If a woman wants to be a *teaching* pastor, and the church won't let her simply because of biological differences, that is disadvantaging her. The church of Ephesus had an issue with women being raised with the same teachings as the greek goddess Artemis, which Paul realized would be damaging to the Church if he let them teach. That's the context. You are correct, it is easy to see where society has gone astray from God's plan and His Word; but until I see harm being done by women in pastor roles (on a grand scale), this is not a mountain worth dying on. There are bigger issues to address than keeping women out of a pastoral role. The world needs the gospel, and I believe He uses women to share the Good News in miraculous ways, including behind the pulpit. I know I'm not changing your mind on this matter, and that's not what I'm here to do. I just appreciate the dialogue and hearing another perspective...
Brady Young - God Bless you my brother and thank you for your respectful responses. It sounds to me that there are many things that we are in complete agreement on and things that we may not see eye to eye on, but as I eluded to earlier, I have not settled on this issue with a 100% stance. But, I do desire to truly know God's design on it. We (people in general) can take a variety of stances on the issue and I hope from the purest of intentions as opposed to malicious ones. Emotions clearly drive humankind to various conclusions. I believe we often assume that God would act this way, or that based on what we know of His nature, but clearly His ways are higher than ours. Is not all scripture God breathed? Is not all scripture "....profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." 2 Tim. 3:16, 17 We must take all scripture and apply it. We certainly know that everything that was done by Jesus, as well as the disciples and apostles is not recorded in scripture; so why did these verses make it if they were only intended for a small, or select group of individuals? Why didn't the apostle Paul simply deal with the issue without the issue being recorded in the canon of scripture? I do not ask these questions because I outright disagree with you; I ask these questions because I want to wrestle until truth is known. Let me ask a few questions for thought. Please do not feel obligated to answer, but at the same time I welcome your (or anyones: it would be wonderful to hear some female perspectives) input. It not only challenges my thinking, but provides dialog for prayer with God. What if the way these verses read in scripture is exactly what God meant? Think about that for a moment. All of a sudden, is God a mean, chauvinistic deity? You know him as a loving, gracious, kind God. A Father to the fatherless. A God who is righteous, just and all knowing. So what would the purpose of such statements be? What reason would he have for them and what error have we introduced because we haven't listened. If you taught the daughter that you may have someday, the reasons why a benevolant God would make such a decision, then would she hate this God, or would she realize that though I may not understand all the reasons why, He does, and that is what is ultimately important here. Obedience is better than sacrifice. Thank you for all the comments you have made. The inward wrestling for God's plan and will is a wonder thing.
kongsorninaxy...the apostles only responding and operating to patriarchal culture and context. I would gladly sit under and learn from sincere females preachers.!
There were definitely deaconesses in the early church in many areas, so I think it would be reasonable to have women serve in the diaconate (but not as a transitional deacon on the way to priesthood). It wouldn't surprise me if we see this change within the Catholic Church within my lifetime.
This video make a good point, because a title or position in one denomination can have different meaning, role, and range of authority from another denomination-We have to put a person in a position as close as possible as what the Bible say.
I serve as a deacon at my church and I agree with this video. Women cannot be pastors because we can not lead over men because God placed men in that role but we can be servants within the church and work in the role of deacon.
Women cannot work in the role as a deacon either. The scripture must be obeyed as is. There are no female Deacons. Anytime it states a woman ministered to anyone the woman served that person..minister means to serve. Simply but Timothy 2:12 says woman much remain silent in the church.not be silent except for Deacons. God sent women prophetess.
Women in my church do deacon type duties sometimes but they are not and will not be given that official title as we think it’s a leadership role as elders are.
If you really think that women cannot lead over men it means that you have something that can be described as an inferiority complex. In all spheres of our human life roles of men and women are changing. If we accepted that women can be politicians, medical doctors, civil engineers, pilots or teachers we also have to accept them as pastors.
@@1866ify God is not the author of confusion. The scriptures are not up for interpretation. Just because churches add what they want doesn't mean God accepts it. We will all stand before Jesus one day. All I know when I stand before Him I want to say I obeyed your every command even thou it hurt my flesh to obey.
I’ll be the first to admit there are standards in the Bible that I wish weren’t there. They force me to conform to His will, His plan. But, ultimately it was my plan that led me astray. There is a way that seems right to a man, but it’s end is the way of death- Proverbs 14:12
I suggest my short and free essay on Deborah. Men and women are perfectly equal spiritually. She was a pastor, according to the scriptures. This is how the Judges are described. God ruled Israel through the Judges. A Judge was the most important spiritual leader of that time period according to scripture. When a Judge died the people went back to their sinful ways. To say a woman can be a Judge over Israel, but a woman can't be an elder in a small church, just doesn't make any sense scripturally.
Joshua Dongala Acts 21:8- 11 8And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him. 9And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy. 10And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. 11And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles. This scripture clearly affirms that women can be prophets and that prophets still operate in the New Testament Church. Ephesians 4:11-12 11And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Women can and were prophets and deacons, as shown in the early church. The idea of women "not being able to lead" applies only to specific head pastor leadership roles
I have always struggled in this topic, but I know in my church we have women who are pastors, but not senior/ head pastor. I’m not in anyway trying to be prideful, but just going by what the Bible says.
You're Absolutely right, and yes God knows best. I honestly know in most cases the women are the hardest workers in the church. I still find myself at times still listening to the word of God by a woman. I enjoyed your to the point briefing.
If you're being taught by a woman/female... I can guarantee you don't know 💩💩💩💩... Let me prove my point=what is your biblical nationality?? Does God love everyone?? Is salvation for everyone??
God said it plainly, "A woman can never be in a position that has authority over a man." I'm not being mean, but the Word makes it clear that a woman cannot be a Pastor or a Deacon.
I have been part of churches on both sides of this debate. I have learned that if you want to serve as a man at your church and your church has a female elder(s) or pastor they may reject you as an elder, teacher, or deacon if your conviction is that women cannot be elders.
well, it's just like if a church has gay elders/pastors and you oppose homosexuality you will be opposed. if a professing church is in a state of rebellion against God, they will oppose those that go by the word of God.

Joel 2:28; Acts 2:17-18: God said he will pour His Spirit out on people and men and women will prophesy and be servants. Pastoring (or being a special leader, a Shepherd), Deacon (or special servant) is a gift of the Holy Spirit. Women can be a pastor and Deacon, it's biblical because that gift is from the Spirit, God's Holy Spirit.

I have just finished reading Mary and Early Christian Women: Hidden Leadership. The fundamental message that God allows women to be religious leaders who preach and give direction to men is true and deeply needed now in the Catholic/Christian faith. I wrote this review from the idea of writing a letter to the author. The best part of this book comes when the author’s (Ally Kateusz) hard work and courage reveal the long “hidden” stories of Christianity’s early female apostles (Romans 16:7) and deacons (Romans 16:1-2 and 1 Timothy 3:11). However, I would warn the author (and the readers) to have more faith in the actual Bible and to be more careful to separate the “wheat” from the “chaff” (Matthew 13:24-32 and Luke 3:17) in terms of the extra-biblical sources. Spoiler alert! This book does not prove that women have ever received what the Catholic Church terms the “ministerial priesthood”. In my opinion, she does prove that the Catholic Church’s current conventional narrative (CCC 1577) about how the apostles only chose men as their ordained collaborators and only had men for liturgical service is false. She proves this in the chapter on women preachers and baptizers. However there is a conspicuous lack of narrative evidence that the women apostles Nino Thecla, and Irene ever conferred the sacrament of Confirmation (Acts 8: 14-17 and Acts 19:1-7) or Order (Acts 6:-1-7, Acts 13: 1-3) To be fair there are some excellent novels and histories (2nd century) based on earlier oral traditions that were written down by early Christians. Unfortunately, later church authorities downgraded women's leadership and these true stories that were handed down from generation to generation were censored or destroyed. Kateusz tries to undo that damage. One of the gems of this book comes when Kateusz proves that honoring Mary as the mother of God (Theotokos) was universal among Christians before the Council of Ephesus. Let the reader be warned! There is a lot of “chaff” in this book where the author completely brakes with the actual Bible and the Catholic faith. Here is the case in point, Kateusz claims that Mary offers herself along with Christ at the Last Supper. Obviously, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John could not have forgotten that. If what Kateusz puts forward is true, then all she has done is call the reliability of the canonical Gospels into doubt. So, at that point she is basically adding whatever she likes to the Catholic religion. Second, she wants to throw 1 Timothy out of the Bible because she claims that it can't be reconciled with her thesis. The third instance of chaff in her book comes when she unfortunately sites doctrinally unreliable texts like the Acts of Phillip alongside good doctrinally sound texts like the Life of Thecla. Here is some of the good “wheat” that is on display in Kateusz’s book. Kateusz argues persuasively that the Six Books written down in the 2nd century are based on older Apostolic oral traditions about Mary the Mother of God. The Six Books were read in Christian churches and are probably the most reliable extra biblical sources that the author analyzes. She looks for common events in Mary's life and ministry that are present in this source and the Dormition narratives of Mary’s death, as well as The Life of the Virgin associated with Maximus the Confessor, the Protoevangelium of James, and the Gospel of Bartholomew. The chapter on women preachers and baptizers proves beyond a reasonable doubt that the women deacons from Roman 16:1 and 1 Timothy 3:11 were commissioned to preach, baptize, and oversee new Church communities in mission territory. It is believable that they could have been the religious leaders for these communities until male presbyters and apostles could arrive who would have been able to confirm the converts and set up local presbyters. It is notable that Kateusz cannot present a scrap of evidence that the female apostles were ordaining presbyters for their communities. Confirming and Ordaining are among the first things that Paul does when he arrives in a community. Here are some other highlights • The book confirms what Hans Urs Von Balthasar theorized about Mary being the greatest theologian. Kateusz shows that early Christian oral tradition describes Mary sending out a group of (male and female) missionaries from Jerusalem, supervising their preaching, and giving them further instruction. • Many early Christians believed that Mary's religious leadership was fully equivalent to the male apostle’s “high priesthood”. This is demonstrated by how the Protoevangelium of James has Mary twice entering the Holy of Holies in the Jerusalem Temple and by Romans 16:7. The Gospel of James or the Protoevangelium of James is always going to be a good witness to the Marian beliefs of Christians that lived in the first centuries however there are serious doubts about its historical reliability. • Early traditions have Mary offering her prayers along with liturgical incense in an action that was later restricted to Ministerial Priests. • The Life of the Virgin is part “wheat” and part “chaff”. It has some value in bringing out Mary's leadership in the early community. However, the author’s contention that Mary offered herself as priest and victim along with Christ at the Last Supper borders on blasphemy. Once again this isn't about being for or against patriarchal Catholicism this is just about being consistent in Catholicism’s understanding of the canonical Gospels. You simply cannot add Mary co- presiding at the Last Supper and still cite the canonical Bible as an infallible witness to Jesus’s life and ministry. • Kateusz relies on early Christian catechisms like the (Didascalia Apostolorum) and written collections of oral tradition to conclude that it was common in the early church to have two presiders at the Eucharist one male and one female (father and mother). She thinks that this demonstrates that women were ministerial priests. However, there is no reason to think that a female deacon couldn't co-preside. This is much more consistent with the canonical New Testament than believing that females transubstantiated the Eucharist. Remember other than consecrating the Eucharist deacons (in the 1st century) basically could do everything presbyters did in the early Church. That is why St. John Chrysostom expressed confusion about whether he was in fact reading about the deacons (and not presbyters) in Acts chapter 6. They seemed to him to be demonstrating the managerial, pastoral, and other non-sacramental responsibilities that were only given to presbyters in St. John Chrysostom’s time. One of the highlights of this book is learning how early Christian writing and art proves how Jesus and Mary are inseparable. It proves that doctrinally orthodox Christians venerated and prayed to Mary in the 2nd and 3rd centuries without any doctrinal guidance from the Church. Another joy is learning about how central Mary’s leadership was in the founding of Christianity. I could see that the author probably has multiple PHD's in art history because she spent a lot of time analyzing the symbols inside historical church artworks. Her argument for women priests is basically this. Roman 16: 7 and reliable oral traditions from the 1st and 2nd century agree that women were given the extraordinary title “apostle”. Furthermore, the author's analysis of art history reveals that artwork inside Catholic churches and monasteries depicts women wearing a symbol of priestly ministry. Artwork is clearly very subjective even if you do have multiple degrees in art history. For me the decisive point is this, if author’s argument for women priests were correct her Life of Thecla would have Thecla performing the sacrament of Confirmation (laying on his hands) as well as baptizing. That along with the fact that Paul easily could have included a simple one sentence note about women priests in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 just as he did with women deacons a few sentences later are the two fundamental reasons that I don't believe the author's argument for women priests. That being said I still enjoyed the majority of her book.
What ? No they have not lost their roll in the church. Scripture stands true and doesn’t change. 1 Timothy 2:12 us women are not called to leadership rolls in the church such as pastor, elder or deacon. Is it the men whom God has called. Just because some men have left the church doesnt mean that all of a sudden women can take over their God given role/leadership. To do that would be to go against the word of God, which is sinning.
A more neutral comment I see is many churches are without pastors at this time despite there being congregations. Pastors are retiring earlier, and some of the longvestahlished churches aren't keen to have a brand new seminarian be head or only pastor. Perhaps some churches need to combine?

@@georgechristiansen6785 I agree with you, and indeed when I wrote my last post, I figured you might make that distinction. My initial response was with regard to 'purpose 1228"'s comment above about people who "bypass Scripture because they have a private agenda."
What makes this tricky is that bias and agenda are so closely linked.
What about bishop Salome. Who's icon was erased by Constantin.did not fit in with so called Christian values. As your leader said go and spread the word Duo duo. Two by two and I don't believe in a male dominant bible
when in doubt always follow the word of God.

Is not about feelings is about obedience to what the scriptures says.
Isn't the scripturally defined requirement of a Deacon being the husband of one wife? So how can a woman be a Deacon?

The Apostle Paul answered it in a single sentence.

God is also the judge of those who do not keep His Word. The Bible says that Jesus loved the rich young ruler. But the next time we read of the man, he was lifting up his eyes in hell.

That's not *quite* what he says, but I would agree that some (many?) churches are far too permissive in how they handle divorce and church discipline.

Steven Irizarry
Steven Irizarry Unlike you, I didn’t come to a RUclips page to argue.
Using your argument that some verse were
For back then is completely wrong.
YET
I lay down my flesh and align it with the word.

If this was written about any other commandment, and labeled as such, there wouldn't be any issue. When Paul addresses women not taking authority in 2Timothy, he takes us back to Genesis. He therefore isn't just saying something about women from that time, but from all time. "Women pastors / preachers? Can a woman be a pastor or preacher?"
Answer: There is perhaps no more hotly debated issue in the church today than the issue of women serving as pastors/preachers.
Ronald Evers you could have just said “NO”
@Ronald Evers as a woman I couldn't have stated it any better than you.
Simple answer is No

My understanding on this is that the logic seems adequate unless you know & take in to consideration...
A. More of the whole council of scripture in context.
B. How Pharisees as teachers using the Hebrew traditional ways to argue scripture to come to an Halchic decision of interpretation of scripture. Paul was applying these & if ignored or not understood; interpretation of Paul's intended meaning is mistaken as per 2 Peter 3:17

He didn't have to carry a whole Torah role everywhere he
was one !

Servant is one who serves or a devoted and helpful follower or supporter which can be male or female.

This is the best video I’ve come across on this.
So the qualifications for a deacon in the word is null and void?
That's what I was thinking... Hmmmmm... But Acts repeats what God spoke through the Prophet, Joel. That God would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh. Your sons & daughters would prophesy...

I'm pleasantly surprised. I fully expected them to fold on this one... as so many do. They've earned my respect.

You are really over complicating the issue. The scriptures are very very clear on the issue of leaders and teachers, and this is more than adequately supported contextually. Women are not permitted to teach nor have authority over the men.

What a gracious way of covering a topic that can be challenging for folks. One point he didn't mention: The same term for "helper" used in Genesis to describe Eve is also used to describe God! Thank you for your teaching on this subject.
Absolutely. The word says what it means.... We need to do it.
I Tim. 3:12 seems to spell out deacon qualifications...
God makes it clear "I am not an author of confusion" ... "Put your Trust in God and not in man" ... "Take heed that no man deceive you."
1 Timothy 3:11 is talking about deacons. Not elders, or overseers.

1 Tim 3:12 is clear. If the bible says something clearly in one place...it doesn't contradict itself. God only has to say it once to be truth. Biblical response. Amen!
Hi Thom,
I appreciate your concern.

There were definitely deaconesses in the early church in many areas, so I think it would be reasonable to have women serve in the diaconate (but not as a transitional deacon on the way to priesthood). It wouldn't surprise me if we see this change within the Catholic Church within my lifetime.
Get out of the Catholic church it is a cult that leads only to Hell. The Bible says you must be born again and the catholics don't believe that
This video make a good point, because a title or position in one denomination can have different meaning, role, and range of authority from another denomination-We have to put a person in a position as close as possible as what the Bible say.

Well women can be prophets!
Acts 21:9

However there is a conspicuous lack of narrative evidence that the women apostles Nino Thecla, and Irene ever conferred the sacrament of Confirmation (Acts 8: 14-17 and Acts 19:1-7) or Order (Acts 6:-1-7, Acts 13: 1-3)
To be fair there are some excellent novels and histories (2nd century) based on earlier oral traditions that were written down by early Christians.
Here are some other highlights
• The book confirms what Hans Urs Von Balthasar theorized about Mary being the greatest theologian.
Catholicism is a cult and unbiblical.
On and on and on and on ...
Zzzzzzzz
Sounds Catholic to me.
No
Boy I got more confused than before
thanks for this teaching many needs to learn from this many men are not coming to church they have lost their roll in the church
