I saw Chicago just last week, and I find it interesting how this gives a different feel. Overall, I think their overexaggerated movements is well placed, mostly the "Spread Eagle" part because it helps give a bit more visual than what was offered in the play I saw. I mean we know it was about sex, the whole thing is about sex and murder, but it adds a bit more flavor and makes it more engaging. I really liked how they interacted with each other, the caressing of the cheeks during that scene is another part that makes it more engaging. What was really different was the "Not Guilty" person. In the rendition I saw it was a tearful plea for innocence; in this one, it felt more playful, almost like a throwaway "Ha! I did it, but I'm not guilty" what with his dancing around and a large smile almost as if he could get away with an insanity plea. IDK I just find it interesting that the same play could be received so differently.
moonrose100 Late to the party here. But re: “Not guilty” ... the way he played it definitely seemed off to me. But I’ve heard of other companies playing it similarly-like the person is guilty and kinda mockingly says “not guilty” at the end or something like that. Kinda defeats the purpose later on when the character is the only one to die. I just always assumed it was meant to be played as though they were in fact innocent. This guy’s playful performance irks me..
@@drewkolar I suppose in context of the whole play, the part should be more serious. But here, where it's a singular performance of the song, it's more effective and contributes to the lighthearted and humorous nature of the performance to have the part played in a more joking manner.
My God not only they performing their parts perfectly and emotionally way, but they are also dance SO FRICKING GOOD. Who are they?? They look sooo natural when they dancing! I'm in love with choreography of it. Like really I can't stop talking about it 😩💘
He was in billy Elliot, West Side Story, Newsies and Matilda on Broadway; The Wild Party (with Sutton Foster) off-Broadway and right now he's touring the US with An American in Paris (wich is an amazing show, if you have the chance to see it I highly recommend it!)
Fantastic. Living in Europe I had not heard about Broadway Backwards until I came across these videos on youtube. Not only is the charity one that deserves attention, but these actors blow me away. Also I suddenly find myself in love with Ryan Steele.
Really the only line that doesn't work quite as well in this gay version is "... and Irving". Of course, a lot of people think it's worse to be cheated on with someone of their own gender, or he could just know Irving and not like him, so the line still works, but it doesn't have quite the same comedic punch. Everything else works really well, no lyric changes needed! (Also, I have a sneaking suspicion this song wouldn't seem quite so charming if it was six men singing about how they killed their wives...)

I remember a friend showing me this in freshman year in high school and i though it was a fever dream until i recently discovered it again.
Spanish guy's translation.
QUE ESTOY HACIENDO AQUÍ?
DICEN QUE MI FAMOSO AMANTE SUJETÓ A MI MARIDO
MIENTRAS YO LE CORTABA LA CABEZA.
PERO ESO NO ES CIERTO!
YO SOY INOCENTE!
NO SE PORQUE DICEN QUE YO LO MATÉ.
TRATÉ DE EXPLICARLES HASTA EN LA ESTACIÓN DE POLICIA!
PERO ELLOS NO ME ENTENDIERON.
WHAT AM I DOING HERE?
THEY SAY THAT MY FAMOUS LOVER WAS HOLDING MY HUSBAND
WHILE I WAS CUTTING HIS HEAD OFF.
BUT THAT'S NOT TRUE!
I'M INOCENT!
I DON'T KNOW WHY THEY SAY I KILLED HIM!
I TRIED TO EXPLAIN THEM EVEN AT THE POLICE STATION!
BUT THEY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND ME.
No Cortaba, CORRRRRRRRRRRRTABA
Oh thank you so much!!
In the original it is hungarian and i couldn't find a translation anywhere. I always wanted to know what she (he) said.😅
@@judith.froeschl02 My pleasure!
The only difference between this version and the original one is that the hungarian girl says "I don't know why UNCLE SAM (USA) says I killed him" ^^
Melina Romegialli thank you but can you tell me what what the last guys name is. It sounds like squish and if it is please explain why everyone else’s name connects to their story

It's Hungarian actually, not to be a pain
Edit: Wait no nvm, in the original it's Hungarian, it might be Spanish here
Liz Flexer Spanish Speaker here. There’s a thick sort of accent (I believe Castilian or Argentinean), but it’s definitely a form of Spanish.
What is he saying?
This is officially my favorite version of Cell Block Tango from now on!
I know right?
Agree!
The 'spread eagle' is well-explained with a shot in the movie version too.
YES EXACTLY
Every actor wants to be different and not someone else. Just from my point of view
moonrose100 Late to the party here.
Those legs!!!! The flexibility is so amazing.
+Ashley Cooper Right?? Thanks for watching. Ashley!
+Ashley Cooper True. The #2 guys keep me crazy. wish i could do the same LOL
It is. It's a shame there's no ballet in my area. I'm into martial arts, and dancers have a pretty good exercise regimen for that.
I'm appreciating the orchestra in the back that probably most people don't recognize
Kuneho Well aren’t you special.
It is a really nice score tho
My God not only they performing their parts perfectly and emotionally way, but they are also dance SO FRICKING GOOD. Who are they?? They look sooo natural when they dancing! I'm in love with choreography of it. Like really I can't stop talking about it 😩💘
The one who sung 'Cicero'/ Velma Kelly's part is literally goals, I wish I was that flexible 😋
his name is ryan Steele. he is AMAZING! :D
He was the original Specs in Newsies (along with being the dance captain)! I am so blown away by his abilities.
Ryan Steele was also in Matilda but understudied Rudolpho
He was in billy Elliot, West Side Story, Newsies and Matilda on Broadway; The Wild Party (with Sutton Foster) off-Broadway and right now he's touring the US with An American in Paris (wich is an amazing show, if you have the chance to see it I highly recommend it!)
Abilash Kanesalingam That is Ryan Steele the most amazing human
No wonder the blond one can get all the guys, he’s flexible
Spawn Of Taco Bell true

Hyena Hearts EXACTLY!
Hyena Hearts I literally said “THEY’RE ALL GAY! WHAT!” Out loud😂😂😂
He's what I call "almost too gay to function" - which comes from "Mean Girls" lol
Hyena Hearts the first one doesn’t seem that gay but I could be wrong 😅
He's the gayest one
My FAVORITE part of this whole thing was that this didn't change the pronouns I love this
Leah Thompson-Brennan gay
Thats kinda the whole point of Broadway Backwards
Well they are all gay..
It would be really hard and disturbing if they talked about killing girls
Ok then. Bit of a double standard going on there but ok.
Fantastic. Living in Europe I had not heard about Broadway Backwards until I came across these videos on youtube. Not only is the charity one that deserves attention, but these actors blow me away. Also I suddenly find myself in love with Ryan Steele.
We need to genderbend Hamilton so Groff can be Angelica 👌

We're not complaining thought
Nyctoby
Oh most definitely not complaining
Really the only line that doesn't work quite as well in this gay version is "... and Irving". Of course, a lot of people think it's worse to be cheated on with someone of their own gender, or he could just know Irving and not like him, so the line still works, but it doesn't have quite the same comedic punch. Everything else works really well, no lyric changes needed! (Also, I have a sneaking suspicion this song wouldn't seem quite so charming if it was six men singing about how they killed their wives...)
