Well, I finally tackled this job myself over the weekend on my 2003 C5 z06. Worked on it on a Friday & Saturday to get it done. Not gonna lie, it's a beating! The easiest part of the whole job is the soldering you do on the circuit board. Removal of the EBCM, removing the cover for access to the circuit board and then re-installing the EBCM back in place is the beating! I'm 65 yrs. old, too. So if I can do it, almost anyone with some patience, common sense, mechanical ability/experience and a little circuitry soldering experience can do it. It actually WORKED!! Everything cleared, all the warning lights that were on went off and now my ABS, traction control & competitive driving modes all work again perfectly. Like I said, it is a beating but, not near the beating of $1700 to have the job done. Thanx, RUclips!

Very good and informative video. My 2002 Z06 had similar failure indications. The dealer thought it was the EBCM, but it had Steering Angle Sensor codes as well (C1287 and C1288). Speaking with Brandon Hite of ABS Fixers in Missouri, his educated hunch was correct - I put the car in the shop early yesterday morning to have the Steering Angle Sensor replaced, they were done by 2:30 in the afternoon. The new sensor fixed the problem. Drove it home and the console Traction Control button works normally and allows me to go into Competition Driving and all that good stuff. It toggles correctly. None of the problematic DIC indicator messages nor caution lights came on.
I appreciate Mr. Hite's able assistance and being honest with me, when he could have taken advantage of me and had me send in the EBCM box. It all works now correctly.

Thanks, I just did this on my 2000 Buick La Sabre. The module looks identical to your's. It was hell to open and I saw no solder joints that looked bad. I resoldered all I could reach, cleaned with CRC electrical cleaner and resealed using black RTV. I thought I'd wasted my time but the light reset and hasn't returned after about 50 miles. I still don't know what I fixed. I didn't find your video before, I guess, because I searched under ABS an not EBCM.

Do you see that "blind hole" at 4:05 next to one of the mounting holes? you can drill that with a #7 drill and tap that hole with 1/4-20 tap. You then thread a 1/4-20 bolt through there which will go right through the case (without damaging anything) and will apply pressure to the cover plate whilst you start to cut away and pry the plate from the case. You continue to thread the bolt as the cover plate loosens and you continue to cut away at the RTV until it completely comes off. This will save you a ton of time/effort in trying to remove the cover plate. Thanks for the video!

Great video. Just an FYI on the back side of the housing is a hole about 1/4 inch in diameter. I'm not sure of the actual diameter. Anyway, there is a clear pathway from the hole to the cover held in place by the four screws. You can drill and tap that hole for a fine thread bolt long enough to push against the cover plate as you screw it into the housing. Go slow and use a razor blade to carefully separate the cover from the housing. That is much easier and causes no damage to the unit.
