The 7.3 is king....even when it was new it was able to tow over 15k pounds....and it's God's chosen machine.😁
I tow 18,000 lbs with my 7.3 f250 it's not that big of a deal. Power is not the issue. it is stability on the road. a dually would help.
Over drive flashing means you have a issue .. if it is working it stays lit up
The skid steer was loaded wrong, the weight was not centered on the trailer, most of the weight was on the tongue of the trailer.
Load distribution is key in towing.
I tow 20 thousand pounds a lot and I don't have a chip. But I do have a mishimoto transmission cooler. I bet your trans was cooking
I tow a 16k dump all day for my business. Does just fine. My last 7.3 had the 4r100 and I don't recommend that for towing heavy. It'll do 10K just fine but you will definitely need to get a trans cooler and watch your temps. Zf6 is definitely the way to go but even that I recommend a stage 2 clutch.
I have a 7.3 with the ZF6 if pulled 16,000lbs of manure with it plenty of times but the stock clutch really takes a beating. I’ll be upgrading to a stage 2 hear soon
My 7.3 is bone stock and pulls a skiddy in a dump trailer in overdrive all day long.
The most i’ve pulled with either of my trucks was a 22,000 pound excavator on a triple axle trailer with my duramax truck. Pulled it like there was nothing behind it. My 7.3L ford has done some light towing but next year it will be definitely towing more.
What duramax do you have?
@@jakeschneider5491, 2003 LB7. It was pushing just under 600hp before i parked it.
Honestly, that’s why your exhaust tip was probably broke at the weld Your exhaust temps were probably through the roof.
Could I do this with my 1989 f250 7.3 idi turbo?
I towed a lot with a 4r100 and I always got op to speed with over drive off and turned it back on at around 50mph and took it easy. That way your not turning a million rpms at hwy speed. I think it's dumb people say to to with it off the entire time. Heat is what kills transmissions get a good cooler. Once your up to speed you can use overdrive. had almost 400,000 on truck no problem.
How much did you charge ?
“Had it in two mode”
Interesting, heavy tow no EGT gauge…..hmmmmm. Owned mine for 24 years. Be interesting to see how high the EGTs got on that tune. Without an EGT gauge I’d probably tow in stock.
Does anyone know the stock hitch receiver size on a 2002 f350 7.3 SRW? Is it 2” or 2.5”
2” and light duty, to do any heavy towing swap it out
I towed 25800 the other day with my 7.3 IDI . It did fine on flat ground but in the hills it was pretty sad😂😂
That’s a fuck ton of weight bro damn
@@TySmith01 yea it was, my trailer is 9k empty. I had lumber loaded on it. I wish RUclips would let you post pics in the comments lol
I’d say you got a big problem if that truck can’t tow 11k + trailer weight
Not bashing but just from experience you should load it facing the other way to not put as much on the tongue
You load skid steers backwards. They can flip over when unloading if you load them facing forward
No you want to back them up on the trailer!!
