I used to do salvage in the mid 80's and learned how to 'wheel and deal' with all sorts of stuff from various industries, from military, medical, and marine, to commercial electrical & transformers, boilers to printing presses, and much more. I compiled a database of buyers and brokers. Some in CA, the rest scattered around the USA. I also went to about 12 - 20 trade shows of many diverse industries almost every year for near 30 years, so I have connections all over the planet, as well! Now that I live near these guys (just down the 15 a bit), I'm willing to help them in some way.

The business is no longer there but I love seeing these because I know that he worked on each and every trailer made there since 1938. That just made my heart happy to see it!

Back in 1970 we took my old uncle to look at an old Bulldozer. He got all excited when he saw it and claimed it was historic old 1935 D8. The first year they made them. We helped him for three days and he cranked it up. We all freaked out it ran. He bought it for $100 and sold it for $2500 back then. Was a very memorable experience.
Was thinking the same. I wonder what the result is when you add salaries and costs of equipment (both running costs and the "cost" of money stuck in the equipment). Probably still a profit but not so large.
Paid for by television cameras property of discovery these big channels is just another way for TV to take over accept now the commercials are in the video itself and or they advertise cutting into the video
@@rosscharnock2268 It's very true. If you have the capital of equipment and salary cover, then other streams of revenue come into play that make it simpler. Money makes money in the end.....and a lot of hard labour and passion also! Not everyone has the knowhow to take on these kind of projects and still turn profit.... and ultimately you can tell that these guys actually enjoy their hard work.
Wow ..it's amazing what people have in their backyards huh! I just recently started watching u around the end of December...love your way of rolling and hope to see more videos like this one!
I met dave at sema one year and I can honestly say he is a genuine guy he threw his arm around my neck as i face-timed my aunt “she’s a huge fan” we talked for a bit before he had to run to his meet and greet by his Ford f-550 6x6 with tracks on it. My whole interaction with him was great he never made me feel like I was a annoying person who ran up to him just to say what’s up he talked to me like he knew me. Thanks for showing love Dave! God bless you and your family. My guess is 174 tons.
When I was younger, maybe junior high, I got roped into watching my 3 month old niece while my sister got her hair done. So there i am, sitting in the waiting area of a hair salon with my niece and who walks in but Dave. I was nervous as fuck, and just kept looking at him, as he read a magazine and waited, but didn't know what to say. Pretty soon though my niece started crying, and I'm trying to quiet her down because I didn't want her to bother Dave, but she wouldn't stop. Pretty soon he gets up and walks over. He started running his hands through her hair and asking what was wrong. I replied that she was probably hungry or something. So, Dave put down his magazine, picked up my niece and lifted his shirt. He breast fed her right there in the middle of a hair salon. Chill guy, really nice about it.

I love how when you look at Heavy, and his guys they look scary, and mean, but they are quite the opposite. These are great people, hard working and friendly I hope to get a chance to meet Heavy, Diesel Dave, and the guys maybe get a handshake. You guys have helped me through a lot since January 2021, and I hope to be able to thank you all someday.
I mean you’re also only seeing a small piece of their lives. They’re working and are on camera, of course they’re gonna be professional. But once the cameras are off they could be totally different people. That’s the thing you have to remember about content creators
Heavy, just wanna thank you all for doing these videos. I almost died twice with this covid and I am bound to oxygen 24/7. I am a hard working man that’s not used to doing nothing, but your videos put a smile on a grim situation.
Start eating brazil nuts and you'll lose the oxygen pretty quickly unless their treatments really messed up your lungs. I also had it three times between Dec 19 and Feb 2021 (also almost dying once or perhaps an almost aneurysm on the third time also counts as 2 - pardon any typo in that) but Jesus gave me the nuts as a remedy for the clots that affect the breathing. Fennel water also helps for the smaller ones that result from the larger ones being broken up and I haven't had to go into hospital once. Even when I was breathing at about 10-20% of what I'd normally be able to breathe it took about 11hrs (including 5hrs sleep) to clear it back to 80-90%. That was 5hrs munching as I was driving and 6hrs sleeping while eating 200g of brazil nuts for my 180lbs. Don't blame the docs, just be happy that The Lord has kept you until now so that you could see this. Nowadays I try and keep both on standby but I haven't experienced anything since early May and a recent test has shown me to be completely clear now.
Wow! Totally different lifestyle than ever heard. I'm a city slicker new to country living and am fascinated by what's outdoors. I look forward to more learning. Best wishes!!
I guess nothings impossible but it looked like more was missing than what's left. Seemed pretty bare bones, but I wish the same thing. Dad should have never sold his 89 Freightliner. There's people all over wisconsin that have tons of steel in old equipment just laying around in their yard. And do nothing about it. Kudos to you for getting the metal back in use
Good job guys Nice to see you guys recycling old stuff and helping the owner out at the same time. Also awome to see your team come together to clear it all. Shame about the crane but at least its not rusting away in a field, Hope your friend is okay that fall looked burtal.
Honestly watching you and the videos you make really make me want to spend a day with all of you. This job alone sure gave me some memories of my grand dad and I when I was a kid.
I love how you own all your own equipment and operate it. Having a business of my own like that or even working for you or a company similar would be incredible. I'm really starting to like the content. Keep it up!
Gotta love how old machinery can just start right up. Did you hear about how they were able to start up that 50 year old IS-3 heavy tank in Ukraine? 46.5 Metric ton tank set up on a pedestal as a museum piece. All they had to do was pour in some fluids, hook up a battery, fuel it up, work the diesel through the pipes and start it up. That old behemoth came to life like a giant out of legends.
Yea, wasn’t that the rebels? Then they actually went and fought with it! It was on a pedestal for DECADES in a park as a monument..LMAO. SOthey rebels took it to war!!!!
Don't care what the weight for scrap turns out to be. A lot of that stuff is usable with a little repair work and definitely restorable. 99% of that is better than ANYTHING built today.
Amazing. One man's treasure is another man's profit. Years ago, some friends and I moved a 60ies White single axle tractor out of the backyard of a woman's house in Phoenix. It had been there for years. It belonged to her husband. He passed away and never got to restore it.. We didn't have heavy equipment nor the room to use it but we did use cables, snatch blocks and winches to move it. I sat in the cab and steered it out of the yard and threw an alley to the street where it was loaded onto a lowboy. It was an all day project and a great memory. This video made me think of it. Thanks. I'm guessing you had 487000 pounds of scrap. Love, peace and chicken grease.
This made my day I’m in Louisiana and we haven’t had power or cell service for a week but we’re alive and no damage. drove 20 mins so I could get service and watch my favorite you tubers. Some form of normalcy back
Me and my friend literally scrapped metal to feed our families. I learned a lot about scrapping and theres money in it if you do it right. If I had the resources I'd start one. In texas theres so much scrap and old vehicles on properties everywhere. You got me looking up trucks and trailers🤔. Anythings better then punching a clock. Keep the videos coming im definitely a new fan💪🏾
I would love to see that big old white truck restored and running. Also that Winch truck too. I love those old style vehicles. I am guessing close to 150 tons was hauled out.
You deal with enough "it ran when we parked it" equipment that it may be worth it to make a power unit trailer that can run long lines to the equipment letting you bypass the engine/pump on the equipment to have full functions. Weld a temporary hitch onto the equipment and simply drive it to the recovery trailer. Can even cheat some more by using solid pipe rather then hose for the majority of the distance with hoses on ether side to give it some flex and just have a boom arm to support it.
Love the show. I used to scrap too. However, without all the equipment you have, it was a little more difficult. This brought back some great memories. I still love to do stuff like this when I have the chance. I also love to recover any vehicle I can, from cars to large trucks, with or without axles. ALL of your content is right up my alley!! 223,000 lbs is my guess. Also, I can't wait to win one of your giveaway trucks!!! lol
Bringing old forgotten equipment back to life... Love it man you struck gold on this one.. Most people wouldn't have seen the value and let it all go to waist
This was amazing to watch how you orchestrated everything to get it out. Trailers on top of trailers and so on. This was my first video of yours I watched. I am a fan now!
Hey, with situations like this crane, or the old digger on the island, couldn't you have like a portable hydraulics generator that you can run lines over to something like this to power it's hydraulics?
Most satisfying thing to me was seeing the stuff go for scrap and will get recycled in to some thing new, not sat there rusting away and every one made some money
They deleted their most recent video after crushing over 70 rare classic Z’s to make a quick buck. Like come one man if you are going to spit in the face of thousands of car enthusiasts at least own up to it! That’s what separates you from WhistlinDiesel. When Whistlin destroys a vehicle I care about sure it bums me out but the fact that he owns up to it and doesn’t care is what makes me ok with it.
They spent hours deleting comments before just giving up and taking down the video. During all that no one stopped to think "Hey.. you know what? Lots of people like Z's.. mayne we shouldn't film ourselves destroying these things!" How fucking dense do you have to be for that thought to never cross your mind? And yeah.. bitch move taking the video down. Own up to your fucking mistake.
@@anewdimnsion As much as I enjoy their content I’m a JDM car guy to the core and could tell they thought it was funny to disrespect those cars. Most of those cars were junk but a few could have ment a lot to Someone like me. I could even have accepted that scrapping them all was necessary but the disrespect was real. I know this comment probably sounds stupid to alot of people but it’s hard for me not to feel this way, I guess I’m just a poor peasant with low standards lol.

My dream is that one day my RUclips channel will reach a level of success that will allow me the ability to save Nissans and Datsun s that are destined for the scrapyard. But instead I went out of my way to choose a car that has been sitting for over 5 years with a missing core support. It was not the easiest option but the car was about to go to the junkyard.

Old Army Engineer here. I've got 😢a bit of a crazy difficult idea that if you can pull it off, you'll set a new standard for getting heavy equipment in places that was previously thought impossible.
It's just good that this stuff isn't just rotting in a yard somewhere now. Being able to get those raw materials back into use without having to mine for it seems like a good thing.
As an oilfield guy I can tell you about alot of the stuff there, white and blue building is a drilling rig doghouse. Had a pulling unit on the fence row. The winch truck with waht I think are 10-15 foot ginpoles, the roole that had flags that you couldn't get looked like swab jars, cable tools for a cable tool rig.
185 A TON?! That is high as hell...., I see lots of "farmer junk", in fields that have not been farmed for decades, from my small plane. getting to it, and then transporting it is the catch, that and the fact they don't want to cut loose of it!

We helped him for three days and he cranked it up. We all freaked out it ran. He bought it for $100 and sold it for $2500 back then. Was a very memorable experience.
The moral of the story is that you can turn 8k into big money if you have a million bucks worth of equipment and lots of employee's.
So true
Was thinking the same. I wonder what the result is when you add salaries and costs of equipment (both running costs and the "cost" of money stuck in the equipment). Probably still a profit but not so large.
Paid for by television cameras property of discovery these big channels is just another way for TV to take over accept now the commercials are in the video itself and or they advertise cutting into the video
im sure youtube paid a major part of those wages to make this video
@@rosscharnock2268 It's very true. If you have the capital of equipment and salary cover, then other streams of revenue come into play that make it simpler. Money makes money in the end.....and a lot of hard labour and passion also! Not everyone has the knowhow to take on these kind of projects and still turn profit.... and ultimately you can tell that these guys actually enjoy their hard work.

1.23 million pounds GREAT VIDEOS!

Thanks.

That's truck with the deck the old one might be good for that
Good idea. Have a trailer with a fuel tank, hydro tank, 24v supply. Like a service truck for "old starts".

Hey, with situations like this crane, or the old digger on the island, couldn't you have like a portable hydraulics generator that you can run lines over to something like this to power it's hydraulics?
It would need to be small enough to fit on the machine it is supplying hydraulic for, so I don't think so. Could be wrong tho.
You are referring to a hydraulic power pack yes you could but it might not be the easiest thing ever

As an oilfield guy I can tell you about alot of the stuff there, white and blue building is a drilling rig doghouse. Had a pulling unit on the fence row.
