Something I’d felt was missing from other reviews when I started doing this 6-7 years ago. It’s started to become more common these days, thankfully. Now that almost everything is so good, it’s becoming close to the most important metric!
For 3D pop, which one is the best? This lens, 55 1.8 zeiss, or Yongnuo 35 f2? I find the zeiss surprisingly has modern rendering, and not as Poppy as the Zeiss planar 50 1.4..
It doesn't appear to be available for Fujifilm X mount, as per the Viltrox website. Which would make sense as it is full-frame and Fujifilm X is APS-C.
I gave up trying to find a reasonably priced "previously owned" Sony 40mm several months ago and instead went with the Sigma 45mm f/2.8 iSeries lens. The Sigma is an outstanding lens but, had the Viltrox been available at the time, I would have snapped that up without question. Sadly, I'm now lusting after the Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 Nokton :-(
@@WesPerry I have that one - for casual outgoings (when not out with bigger af f1.2 50 or 35. ) But know that it is hardly focusable at any moving subject at f1.2 since dof so small....)
And many people buy Exclusively for value. In my previous Meike 85 1.8AF video dozens and dozens of people were upset that I pointed out the lens was flawed, because it’s a good value none of that should matter 🤦🏻♂️ It all matters. Otherwise there would only be one review category 😂
@@WesPerry Second hand marked is full of better value then new ones in the "value sector". That is why every lens tests should not be disqualified because analyzing "to expensive gear". (Its just brakes my heart when people buy i.ex a battery powered drill in a nice take-away kit without or with 20% sale off at the supermaket ..when on the second hand market they can for the same money get a life-long lasting pro model for the same price. Just ake's.
@AR-vf7vg I can’t take into account second hand market because 1) it’s highly variable and the video has to stand on its own for years 2) every lens will end up there eventually anyway 3) second hand markets very greatly in pricing and availability from region to region (although msrp often varies between regions as well)
"image character" is such a smart criterion, love it!

Veronica is the Cover Girl!!! ❤❤❤
The best equipment reviews on the internet. Thank you, Wes!

I have the 20mm version. I love it
Yeah I preferred the 20mm over the 40mm.
Thanks for this great review.
Wes, Sony dropped Shutter Angle this morning for Fx3 and the Fx30!!!
Whaaat
No love for a7Siii though? Haha

Oh no! I thought it was!
They really should, as it’s no bigger and the price no higher than their APS-C models…
@@WesPerry Absolutely.

That Nokton is a whole other beast! Lol

This or a used Sony FE 40mm F2.5?
Depends on the price. Even a used Sony goes for over $500 most of the time.
I found this one to focus too slow. I returned it. It was pretty sharp though.
How fast do you need it to be??
I guess I use a lot of cheaper third party lenses and this was pretty fast compared to most.
You DONT BY for "value".
(And there is a SAMYANG (af 45? - i dont remember) with character.- also 2nd hand.)
@@AR-vf7vg I think I referenced the Rokinon 45, which is the exact same lens as the Samyang.
@@WesPerry
Knowing that might make it perhaps even more easy to find one second hand.

wanted to buy the V 20/2.8 already, but no AF MF switch for me is a nono... sorry
