  • 'From The Factory Floor’ takes you on a deep dive into select processes around the PRS factory. In this episode, we explore final quality inspection, where our team meticulously reviews every guitar before it heads to casing. From fine-tuning the setup to ensuring a perfect finish, everything is inspected in this final quality check.
    This process is narrated by Quality Control Manager Jeff Marolda. Enjoy a view “From the Factory Floor” as our Quality Control team inspects a beautifully figured Custom 24 in Faded Whale Blue.

      Not a good look when the company produces different standards for the same customers... My Indonesian made showed up a mess and has to go back. Not sure how it passed inspection. Took me all of one second to notice the defects. I've seen nicer used guitars.

      Some people buy instruments even though they don't care much for it.
      Keep checking ads until you see someone struggling to sell his PRS. Doesn't happen that often, but it does happen!
      I was tracking an ad for 6 week until I saw him lower his price from 1500$ to 1250$ (5 years ago)
      I told him I had a budget of 1000$ and if he's willing to drop his price, I'd be in front of his porch in a few hours.
      And he accepted! And that was my first core model, which allowed me to trade for different ones afterwards.
      Best investment I made 👌

Loved the necks and fretwork on them. I know I've had my criticism of PRS' unwillingness to offer stainless steel frets on at least some of their models, their S2s on up (Core Models, etc.) are top notch regardless.

    I have a 2003 and 2010 custom 24. While these are easily the finest made guitars there are not perfect. For a start on both instruments the saddle screw on the high e string unscrews and falls on the floor after about 3 months . This is easily fixed by putting a small amount of thread seal on the screw to give it a little more resistance. Also on the 2003 one it had one of the pickups wired out of phase, again easily fixed with a soldering iron.

    PRS is my favorite company, but I'm not 100% satisfied with their QC. New, my 2001 Core Custom 24 came with a pickup selector switch that wouldn't stay where you put it. (Took it apart and re-bent the spring tabs to fix it. That's OK.) My new S2 594 Singlecut came with another pickup switch issue. This time around, there was often silence or static when the bridge pickups were selected. (This issue is not yet resolved..) This same guitar also has 2 specs under the paint that stick out, although I'm nitpicking a little. (They're minor and can't be noticed unless you're looking for them.) The same guitar also came with a very noticeable and annoying string buzz from one bridge saddle. PRS missed this, and so did the guitar store that sold it.
    My fairly new PRS SE T50E acoustic had deep tooling marks on two frets which I had to sand down, otherwise the string would get stuck in them while bending. But, it had slightly better QC than my USA S2 594. This frustrates me! The lesson (I guess) to buy guitars only directly from a store, in person.

  • @000gjb
    @000gjb 2 года назад +5

    Pity the QA never happened on my 2012 NAMM P22 . High frets in places, action was deliberately high on the low E string to compensate, one tuner is so stiff and hard to adjust. At the time I bought the guitar I did not know what a Fret was and did not know the difference. Promising myself to learn to play guitar all my life, I bought this guitar new in Australia in 2014 . It does not tap play on the neck. Contacting PRS in the USA had no result, their response was that it should. Out of warranty, asking the local distributor who to trust to send it to were two Luthiers, interstate, 800km away in opposite directions. Great business model. This is a 1 in 100 world wide limited edition guitar, I wonder what the other 99 were like?

    After 30 years of buying cheap, run of the mill guitars I have finally made it to a PRS Private Stock. It sits on a stand in my bedroom so that it’s the last thing I see before going to sleep, the first thing I see when I wake up. When you have that kind of instrument and $12,000 invested you are not only driven to play, you are inspired by what it unlocks. True coil taps with no volume loss and real single coil tone is like taking off a Les Paul and grabbing a Strat. Just with on click of a switch. The action is so perfect without fret buzz and perfect intonation. Tune it when you begin, never have to touch the keys again. Magic

      I couldn’t agree more. I played around 15 to find one that was set up correct with no neck or fret issues. Including private stock. There was one issue I saw over and over. The bridge hardware bottomed out with no way to lower action. If bridges need to be bottomed out in factory set ups, there’s something seriously wrong.

    • @pedraw

      just look here on youtube for a PRS guitar setup. Setups and string height (action) are pretty much personal preference. For me personally their spec is a reference point to start.

    • @TheRCAirMarshall
      @TheRCAirMarshall 2 года назад +1

      I usually start at 3/32 at the low E, 2/32 at the high E, and then use a radius gauge to set the height of the 4 middle strings. I also look for .010 relief at the first fret and .010 relief at the 8th fret. I’m certainly no master but these measurements using 10 gauge diaddario XL’s gives me the exact action I want, no fret buzz anywhere. Of course that all depends first on whether you have level frets in the first place. Good luck!
