How in the world did you see that?? Wow!

Poor Chris. I'm so glad he's ok
Everyone should watch the documentary about this story, Last Breath. It's on Netflix (in the US)
@@timwentz4913 thanks I will definitely check it out
I didn't expect the story to end that way at all.

Yoooooooooo. I didn’t know you watched me.ballen. Sub here.
I was really stoked that Chris survived in the last story. People rarely make it out of a MrBallen story alive 👏👍🎉
Anytime he has spoken about a diver, someone has died. As soon as Ballen mentioned that Chris resuscitated, I just gasped! I was waiting to hear the tragic "d" word (deceased) and instead heard about a miraculous survival.
Yes, a Mr. Ballen story is a dangerous place to be.
This video had 2 stories where the person survived! I was amazed lol
This has to be the first one 😆
I immediately lost my Sympathy for him upon hearing that he went right back to doing the Same Job. 😠
Chris's story made me feel so anxious, but hearing that he survived and there's a happy ending made me so relieved.
she got the same amount of time other people get for carrying a weapon so no, not a happy ending
@@scsorluv Chris was the last story. Mike was the one with no justice.
@@scsorluv agreed but that isn't the story he is referring to.

“He didn’t intend to launch a dummy off the building”
Yes, yes he did.
Lol
BAHAHAHA Amara you fucking legend!! I haven't laughed that hard in ages, thank you!
OH. that. was. good.

Most underrated comment ever lol
chris was just blessed to have good friends who wouldn’t leave without atleast retrieving his body.
And how about the captain who rebooted the ship, something you "just don't do"? That risk paid off!
And they didn't so quickly as if they still had hope. Maybe very little but at least they tried.
Not to mention the mouth to mouth, kissing the homies pays off ig
Freaking awesome 😎
I'd say he was lucky to be working with true professionals, fuck friends lol. I can tell you that there were people in the Army I *hated* with a passion. But a situation purely does not exist where I'd have left them behind, risk to my own life not being a considered factor. Friends will leave you behind and say nice things at your funeral. 🤷♂️
The fact that everyone still went back & his friend still gave him cpr knowing he was already dead is #friendshipgoals
He is alive
@@lunamoonwill6955 Yes, but the point is they must have truly believed he was dead when they tried to revive him anyway. And that's why they were so shocked when it actually worked.
Couldn't ask to have a better friend than that 💯❤️
That's why you should always try.
ikr. all the things they did as a team! whether its small or big (some untold things as well!) if they had missed one action, Chris wouldnt be alive right now. its so amazing.
First of all, Dave is an absolute legend and fearless hero. His only fear was losing his friend. Leapt back into darkness, climbed the structure, grabbed Chris, pulled himself and his buddy back, then proceeded to will him back to life even though it should have been too late. Second, Chris is an absolute legend and fearless fighter. He did literally the impossible, facing impossible odds, and did it anyways. Then woke up alive again, and proceeded to go back to work like dying once was just a minor inconvenience. Lastly, that captain is a legend and a leader. God bless.
There was a great documentary about this I saw on Netflix a little while ago you should check out. Dave wasn't really friends with Chris, he mostly just went back as a sense of duty. Still a tough ass dude, nonetheless!
I remember this documentary of this same thing happening. At the very end I remember the radio telling Chris " dont go and die on us again"
Well said
what a crew
Chris's wife ; " So, how has work been honey?"
Chris ; "Well, everything has been great. I died a couple of days ago, but I'm back at work now!"
Poor Mike, he didn't turn the lights on because he didn't want to wake up his wife, it really seemed like he loved her. And the woman not only destroyed his business, she tried to kill him in his sleep too, crazy how heartless some people can be

Chris’ story actually makes a lot of sense. When my grandpa had a heart attack and died and was without oxygen until he was found at least 15 minutes later, the hospital intentionally induced hypothermia because it not only slows, but actually somewhat repairs damage to the brain caused by oxygen deprivation. If you’re going to die, doing it somewhere incredibly cold buys you more time to be revived. That’s why victims who drown in very cold lakes have a higher survival rate than people drowning in the average body of water.
I’m not a doctor so I don’t actually understand *how* hypothermia slows the death of the brain from oxygen deprivation but it’s pretty cool.
The most incredible thing about his story is that they didn’t give up. The captain even rebooted the entire ship, risking them all, at just the shot to recover his body. They had no way of knowing that they were actually going to get him back, but they took a chance. Imagine how many people would’ve just left him, or recovered his body and not attempted CPR just assuming that there’s no way anyone could survive that long without oxygen. Everything had to happen just right for him to be recovered and revived. I imagine he probably feels like he has a new lease on life because he was obviously meant to live.
What pisses me off is he went back to do that dangerous shit
@@alfonsoperez8535 someone has to and it pays vey well
"Chris’ story actually makes a lot of sense. When my grandpa had a heart attack and died and was without oxygen until he was found at least 15 minutes later, the hospital intentionally induced hypothermia because it not only slows, but actually somewhat repairs damage to the brain caused by oxygen deprivation". THIS. This is a scientific fact.
yeah, but no. you don't repair brain damage, if its broke its broke.
Freezing temperature prevents damage by massively slowing down the process where cells starts to die.
Also.
"The captain even rebooted the entire ship, risking them all." you apparently don't know ships and how they work. that ship was never in any danger, neither was the divers in the bell, rebooted the entire ship lmao, electrical systems yeah sure. but there are other mechanical systems in place that are redundant and they will take over when the ship has no power.
The Captain just did what was right, he retrieved his crew, dead or alive.
dang that's so interesting!!!
Chris’s story is absolutely incredible! His colleagues are super heroes to try to retrieve & revive him like that, when most would simply give up. More survival against all odds stories, please!!!
Props to that diver who decided to administer mouth-to-mouth to Chris, even though they thought he was already gone! What an amazing story! Thanks for posting, Mr. Ballen! 👍🏻😊
I was thinking the same thing, without medical training it might not be your first instinct expecially after a traumatic event with a blue and very dead looking man in front of you. That definitely suprised me in a good way!! Absolutely amazing instincts.
They were clearly good friends. There was no way they weren't going to atleast try. Reminds me of the Thoros of Myr and Beric Dondarrion from Game of Thrones, Thoros thought his buddy was dead and just happened to reccesitate him.
@@gfdereus8967 Men do what a man has to do
@@A_Black_Sheep94 anyone would do that
@@gfdereus8967 EVERYONE who works for the oil industry has to pass a basic emergency trauma course, including CPR. I took them up in Alaska, and they still use the compression pants for lower body trauma injuries to prevent bleed outs (Some areas of Alaska are still rural enough that it'll be a couple hours flight to get to a trauma hospital). I was a glorified receptionist with security duties, and worked inside the city, and I still had to certify as an Emergency Trauma Tech with the state. The dude would have had at least basic training on what to do if someone isn't breathing. It's also mentioned in the video I watched about this particular story (before Mr. Ballen covered it) that the diver who went to get his body, and who gave him rescue breaths was a close friend of his.
Wow. That ship captain and crew are hero’s. They were trained well and acted with honor. They could have just assumed he was dead and abandoned the position but lucky for Chris, they kept searching. I bet the knowledge of his badass crew gave him the confidence to dive again.
True LEGENDS!
Its a very happy ending for a crew that did everything right. Even launching the drone sub was brilliant and quick thinking from part of the crew to assist in the search. But even despite all of the right decisions it almost ended in tragedy just shows how hazardous the job is.. I like to think the universe saw how hard everyone was trying and doing the right thing and decided to give them all a break.
@@futureemp3084 I have absolutely no experience in this, but I kind of wanna write a spec script of that movie. If done properly, it could be super suspenseful and scary, but everyone goes home happy at the end. Like Gravity meets Apollo 13 meets the Abyss.
@@BlyGuy right the idea of Chris running out of air in the pitch black of the freezing cold ocean triggers almost all of my worst fears.
it’s either continuing the search or be prosecuted for abandoning him…better a fruitless search than a trip to jail

*RUclips comments*
bruh...FACTS
I wonder if him being without oxygen under immense pressure somehow stopped him from becoming brain damaged or brain dead. It's almost like without oxygen in that intense pressure his body just went into sleep mode and then the second he got oxygen again it restarted back up. What we know is a drop what we don't know is an infinite ocean. We know almost nothing about how the human body reacts under immense pressure like that. All we know is that humans can survive under that pressure and slowly acclimate back to normal pressure without causing any damage to the body. That's literally it. But we don't know for sure what really happens to the human body when it loses oxygen for 20 minutes under that immense pressure. Or how the body would react to being injured under that immense pressure. Maybe because he was under such pressure and in such cold water it slowed his heartbeat so much that he was able to survive without his heart stopping so his brain was getting just enough blood and oxygen to not be damaged. There's another true story of a woman whose car broke down and she had to walk really far away in a snowstorm and passed out at these people's front lawn and they thought she was dead because she was totally frozen but she was thawed out at the hospital and woke up with no permanent injuries.
The first one made me sad. A lot of great inventions were made because the inventors/engineers had the courage to try out the concept for the first time and some died trying and paved the way for improvements that would lead to a working invention so I can't help but admire Franz's courage.
It's not courage. It's stupidity.
Damn that guy Chris went back to sat diving after that. He's got the balls of steel.
Balls of steel act as ballast at that depth
It was his profession after all, Probably the only thing that paid his bills
The guy definitely does not need a weight belt.
Now Chris was an idiot because he allowed for the slack to be made and he wasn't paying attention to it and allowed for it to accidentally get caught
@@XxDatBoyFly1xX - Maybe. Making 350k+ a year is a lot of money. I'm sure he has some saved up, he could work somewhere else and still be fine. Especially with his mechanical aptitude

I bet Franz would be amazed to know that Wing suits are a thing today and very close to his idea if not design.
I was thinking that. He was not so far off!!
But I think you use wingsuits in conjunction with a parachute. Ive never seen a wingsuit video where they actually landed with the wingsuit. They always fire the parachute for that.

I'm happy when a story that begins with Florida man and has a happy ending.
Chris is a Chad for surviving for so long and his friend is a flipping hero for providing CPR no matter how bad the odds were.
You almost chad me there for a flippin second.
Honestly, the only thing that makes any kind of sense is that the combination of cold and pressure somehow helped him survive. But that's the biggest fluke possible to somehow survive that
There's a saying in emergency medicine: You aren't dead until you're warm and dead. The fact that Chris's body was rapidly cooled is what protected his brain and ultimately saved his life.
As an EMR, this is true. You can't pronounce a drowning victim or hypothermic victim dead unless they're warm and have been warm for a while and you are unable to resuscitate them. If the victim is breathing (respirations) but has no pulse, don't pronounce them dead! If they have a pulse but aren't breathing, don't pronounce them dead until that heart and respiration rate ends!
@@sons_of_durin3329 how can someone be breathing, but also have no pulse? I’m truly curious. I understand that people can stop breathing, but still have a pulse. The latter though really confuses me.
@@vholt1000 In this case, the breathing would be agonal, meaning it's more like gasps than breaths. It's the body's natural response in trying to get an adequate amount of oxygen, yet without the proper blood flow, the body begins to shut down.
That's what I was thinking but, I'm not trained. I'm so glad he's okay ❣️

@@samanthafairweather9186 It's funny because even though Franz was an idiot for risk his life for something that (1) wasn't worth it and (2) lacked the data to predict a favorable outcome, he apparently understood aerodynamics better than you do; a parachute needs time to be able to deploy (time that is obtained with the distance to the ground, the height), to think that they behave (or should behave) in the same way regardless of the height from which they are launched is to ignore the most basic of their fundamentals and I ask you not to try to prove otherwise by taking a modern parachute completely functional to throw yourself from the roof of your home.
@Norbert women have a higher life expectancy than men because men tend to be fucking stupid and do shit that women know not to do. I was an insurance investigator for 47 years & I handled deep diving claims. No one would believe the stories I told about deep diving. Maybe now they will listen. It has got to be the most dangerous job job the planet.
There’s a brilliant documentary about it, I think it’s on Netflix
The deep ocean is the scariest thing on this planet. I could never imagine myself working a job that requires me to dive 300+ feet into the abyss. The people who do this have major cojones.
Yeah, my dad is a master diver of 40 yrs and now a level one certified free diver and I still get paranoid about it... Esp bc he is 69 yrs old!
Ever been underwater CAVING???
I don't mind caving... AND I don't have a problem with the water or depth...
I AIN'T GOING into a cave underwater... ;o)
Maybe the cojones as so big the owners of the tumescent testies think they will help their buoyancy
I've worked in enclosed spaces for 18 years. You have to trust your coworkers alot. Not the same thing as working underwater but doing majors repairs in some emptied acid pipes/ chemical vats that can go off if don't controlled correctly. The worst job I've done was at a copper refining plan.24 inches pipes diameter pipes inspection. 200 feets long. If someone opened the wrong valves, you get a shower of 450F sulfuric acid. We can ear the acid coming in the pipes that were next to the one we have to check. Each times we asked ourselves if they turned the wrong one on. Each one of thoses pipes took 9 hours to check properly. You can't absolutely be claustrophobic and you have to keep your composure. Panicking is not an option.
my ears would implode way before reaching 300+ feets
As a commercial diver, I appreciate how well you explained saturation diving! 👌
as far as I know, MrBallen himself is/used to be a diver for the Navy so that's probably why he explained it so well and why he covered many diving cases already
It was so refreshing to have a survival story for once! I was so happy it turned out like that! Go Chris - and especially his buddies who didn't give up on him!! 👏👏👏
Has anybody got a tally on how many times Ballen has taught us about decompression stops?
No but we enjoy each and every time we hear about it.
I’m at 8😂😂

I was so sad when Chris died. He was alone. In the dark and cold. So glad he made it against impossible odds. That was a miracle.

You could've knocked me over with a feather when I heard that Chris lived! I've watched a lot of MrBallen's videos in the last few days, but this is the first survivor I've heard of! Thank God Chris lived!
There is an incredible documentary on Netflix called “last breath” about the dive. I was bawling the whole time! I completely recommend!
I watched it on the bBC a few years ago, I'm still scratching my heed why he didn't get killed, and the guy who saved him really dislike each other, I thought in the documentary, he was ice cold whether he survived or not

Holy $hit that was so good.
"Hey Chris, don't fuck it up this time" 😂
Oh wow. Chris's survival story is one of the best I've ever heard. His chances were all but nil. It's so cool that his diving partner hadn't given up on him, instead dragging him into the dive bell, pulling all that gear off and giving him some breaths. It's just an incredible story of survival.
i was already feeling sad for him half way through the story, but then he survived! yay!
I will never go into the comments before finishing the video again. Lol
My breath actually hitched when you got to the point where Chris came back to life. That was amazing.
i love the friendship the divers had. they didnt care if he was suppose to be dead, they were still trying to save their friend. they were all determined to get him back, and they did everything they could. I would feel very safe working with people that i had a bond with like that.
She was released after a year??????
She literally shot someone in the head while they were asleep!
Right?!
Why would they even offer a plea deal when he confessed. Jesus Christ the justice system is retarded.
That’s what I’m thinking! She tried to KILL her HUSBAND! I just can’t believe she was allowed outta there smh

So the 2nd story She rather Kill and admit to shooting her husband but she couldn't admit to failure? The human mind is full of more pride and shame for all kinds of things.
She also failed at killing him
Not the first case of it. This channel covers a case where a guy almost killed his entire family instead of admit he never graduated from med school.
Also only gets 1 years jail and then released. If the roles were reversed, he would have had a decade in jail.
And continues to sleep after getting shot in the head
I was wondering the same, it doesn't make sense to me either.
Wow! Good for Chris 🍀 my dad was right about this quote: “if it’s not your time to go yet.. you will miraculously survive in any situation”
i was thinking the same thing, it definitely was NOT his time! and yes, your dad was right.😊😊
I gotta disagree because (and this is a very sad fact) around 20,000 to 30,000 children die *everyday* and most of them could be saved with basic medical treatment.

Most of these stories do not end well, but I was so glad to hear Chris made it out alive despite his horrible predicament.
That final story was so heartwarming. I'm so used to people just dying in any underwater story. Can't imagine the gratitude Chris felt, and the relief of his buddies when he gasped for air.
I got soooo excited and happy when Chris turned out to be alive. I can't imagine the feeling of those people seeing him coming back to life.
Wish they would make a movie out of it but knowing hollywood they would probably add sea monsters. Even though the story is scary in itself.

I think its just one of those things that it rarely goes wrong but when it does its terrifying, like commercial airline crashes
Always satisfied with these stories. Yeah Chris and two friends who revived him. Such a great ending. Had me on the edge of the seat the whole story.
After watching your story about Chris, I found the true story film ‘Last Breath’, a truly amazing film. I found myself holding my breath without realising.
Even knowing he survives, it still makes for a very hard watch.
What each person involved went through during that time must have been so awful, the waiting and not knowing. Chris really clung to life with everything he had. A true survivor.
That absolutely wonderful thing about it was that they refused to give up on Chris, and that determination saved Chris' life. Well done to all.
This man could talk about dust and I would gladly watch. He makes everything so interesting

"Dust is created by dust mites when they poop"

I can't imagine how scary being in the pitch blackness of underwater would be...the balls on that guy to continue working that job after going through that, absolute mad man.
If you knew the kind of money underwater welders make, you'd probably jump right back in too. I just do structural - a few different types and I make really good money. Those UW guys live the high life but have to get out after about 15-20 years. That's their life expectancy. By then they'll have a multi million dollar house and all the toys. Assuming they don't waste it on hookers and blow (high probability if you know any welders).

Im glad that his diving buddies actually went down to get him, they could of just thought that hes dead and no way to save him, also that he found the structure is crazyy!!!
On the diver's story...David Blaine went into detail about those exact type of cases...almost the same thing happend to a young boy who fell thru ice, was under for like 40 mins, unconscious, but bc he never inhaled water, it's like the body went into a self preservation/shut down mode and the boy likewise was also 100% okay.
Yeah same as insects to. U can freeze a fly rock solid and then thaw it out and it springs back to life
The same happened with Jean Hilliard, who was rock solid frozen for six whole hours in a snow storm at night. She survived. You can look up her documentary/photos online. It's quite fascinating.
There was a Swedish woman who fell into icy water after a skiing accident. She found an air pocket but suffered from circular arrest after 40 minutes. Her body temperature was just 13.7° Celsius (~56 F) when they found her, 80 minutes after she fell into the water. She also survived and was fine again but it took a while. Her name is Anna Bågenholm.
The diving story was one of the best stories you have done! I was so damn happy when you said he survived! I wish more of your stories had happy endings! Great job crew!!

the way you are able to vividly paint a picture of being at the bottom of the ocean floor in these saturation diver stories is amazing and anxiety inducing all at the same time to the point where I can imagine MYSELF being at the bottom of the ocean floor and getting thoroughly creeped tf out. I've swam in oceans and such, but I've always been terrified of the unknown the oceans/seas carry as well. def doesn't trigger me to the point I can't listen to these stories, but still gives me the heebie jeebies thinking about it.

I’m guessing that also would have failed XD. The grim reaper had it in for him that day!
Awesome story about Chris. Nice to have a miracle ending once in a while. I think the cold and pressure combined with him passing out, pushed more blood into his brain, maybe caused shallow breathing making the oxygen last longer, saving his brain and body from damage.
