A few fun facts about Queen: * Guitarist Sir Brian May has a Ph.D. in Astrophysics and built his electric guitar (Red Special) when he was 17 (with his dad). * Bassist John Deacon has a degree in electronics. He designed and built the amp that Brian sometimes uses to create unique sounds on Red Special. John was also involved in the band’s financial management. * Drummer Roger Taylor has a degree in biology (pre-med). His vocal range is better than most lead singers of other groups. * Lead singer Freddie Mercury has a degree in graphic design. It goes without saying that his vocal range was amazing and he was the best front man of any band. * All four have written #1 hits, and all are members of the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Hell to the yeah, TArnold... appreciate your details... what an amazing band.. been in love, personally, with Brian since I was 16 or so... sadly did not work out for me.. but I still am in love with geriatric Brian... lol
72,000 people in attendance and 1.9 Billion people watching from around the world. Freddie performed against doctors orders with a throat infection. Live Aid made 124 million dollars for famine in Africa . When the boys left the stage , a Prince from Dubai donated $1 million dollars .
All four members were inducted into the songwriter’s hall of fame. They are the only band where all members were inducted. They are also in the rock and roll hall of fame. Both Freddie and Roger have a 4 octave vocal range. Freddie had a throat infection during this concert and was told by his doctor to not perform.
To give people some idea just how good Queen was that day, the legendary David Bowie who was on after queen was heard by a reporter to exclaim "how the fuck am i supposed to follow that?' also Freddie was asked"which instrument do you play Freddie?" His reply? "The audience darling", one true fucking legend 🏴
Thanks for your Queen reaction, loved! Yes dear, Crazy little thing called love Freddie wrote to homage Elvis. He did in 10 minutes while taken a bath. He loved Elvis! I didn't watch the Live Aid live but I was at Rock in Rio 85, live, the 2 nights of Queen...unforgettable! Big hug dear! 🎉
Roger Taylor wrote Radio Ga Ga. He had this to say about its meaning: "Radio was the first place I heard rock 'n' roll. Today it seems that video has become more important than the music itself - too much so, really. Music is supposed to be an experience for the ears more than the eyes." Check out "Somebody to Love" live in Montreal.
Queen is a British rock band that was formed in 1970 and was comprised of: Freddie Mercury - Lead vocals and piano Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals John Deacon - Bass guitar Queen has released 15 studio albums, 10 live albums, 16 compilation albums, two soundtrack albums, 2 extended plays, 73 singles, and seven promotional singles. Live Aid was a duel-venue concert held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium in London (audience of 72,000) and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia (audience of 90,000) that was connected and broadcast over 13 satellites worldwide to an audience of over 1.9 Billion. The purpose of the concert was to raise money to aid Ethiopia which was suffering from 2-year drought. There were 75+ acts, each allotted a 20-minute slot to perform. The UK line-up included Status Quo,, David Bowie, Elton John, Wham!, Sting, U2, The Who, Paul McCartney, and Bob Geldof with his band The Boomtown Rats. The US bill included Madonna, Eric Clapton, Duran Duran, Mick Jagger, Paul Simon, Led Zeppelin, and Tom Petty. Phil Collins played in both London and then caught the Concord Supersonic Jet and flew to perform again in Philly. Live Aid did not have a Queen audience. All of the tickets to Wembley were sold before Queen was announced to be part of the venue. At this time, Queen was considered to be an old band (they had been performing since 1970.) Those in the audience came to see groups like U2 and Wham! Also, remember the Live Aid at Wembley concert began at 12:00 London time (the Philly concert began 5 hours later), so the audience had been there in the sun and heat for nearly 7 hours by the time Queen performed. Unlike most of the other acts performing, Queen took this performance very seriously. They rented a hall and rehearsed their performance for a week before the concert. They had clocks placed all over the rehearsal area to keep track of the time (remember they were limited to 20 minutes). Here is a video of the rehearsal along with an interview with the band about Live Aid - ruclips.net/video/e1ccSGPjd9o/видео.html Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Freddie’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the charismatic star. “Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time because they could connect with an audience.” Queen's playlist was: 1. Bohemian Rhapsody (just the ballad and guitar portion) 2. Radio Ga Ga (the song that inspired Lady Ga Ga's name) 3. Freddie's Call and Response 4. Hammer to Fall 5. Crazy Little Thing Called Love 6. We Will Rock You (just the first verse and guitar solo) 7. We Are The Champions
Two of Freddie's favorite genres were Elvis and Southern Gospel. These were the influences for Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Elvis) and Somebody to Love (gospel).
I was 18 years old the first time I saw Queen in 1975 and fell in love. Saw them several more times and still in love 50 years later. That's staying power 😁 Freddie, tu est mon ange 😘😇 je t'adore.
Somebody To Love live Montreal 1981 is mandatory. Ranked as the second greatest live performance with Live Aid still holding the title of the greatest live performance in Rock history 33 years after the death of Freddie ❤️👑🎸🥁🎤🎹
I love this set and this performance. There is so much electricity between the band and the audience. Freddie just had a way about him, he captured every person in the audience right away and had them eating out of the palm of his hand. The best part was that it was fun for Freddie that way too. I absolutely love Brian May, he is my favorite rock guitar player which is saying a lot because I have a lot of favorites. There is just something about the tone he creates whether he is playing his Red Special, or the Fender or the acoustic as seen in Crazy Little Thing Called Love where he plays all three (Freddie wrote this song as a tribue to Elvis. He wrote it in about 10 minutes while taking a bath). He is just so good and the perfect compliment for Freddie as are Roger and John. Thank you for your reaction to this incredible performance. The stadium was sold out at 72,000 people. Radio Ga-Ga was written by the drummer, Roger Taylor. It is about how important a role radio had played in our lives for generations as well as in music and how the new idea of video music was becoming popular and the hope that it would not crush radio and remove it from our lives which in fact, it now sort of has. Freddie likes to work the whole stage, unlike most other acts. The camera crew wasn't really ready of that so they were crowding Freddie so he was having fun establishing his territory by moving in on the camera guys even sticking his tongue out at the one in his face. Freddie used the microphone as a phalis a lot of the time, always pressing the edges of the envelope. According to Roger, their shows in Rio (Rock In Rio) each had about 300,000 in the audience and their live in Hyde Park show had at least 150,000 so this was just another stadium show for Queen as far as the audience size is concerned. You know it is a killer set when the security team in front of the stage is facing the stage instead of watching the audience to make sure nobody is going to rush the stage. "How does he still have so much energy?" This is nothing, this is a 20 minute set, a Queen Concert was/is generally over 2 hours and Freddie was running and racing up the stairs for the whole thing. Accordign to Brian the adrenalin is flowing hard during a show so any aches or pains are taken away by "Dr Rock" as they referred to it. I have seen footage of Roger being so exhausted once he left the stage that he was being assisted as he was walking back to the dressing room where he was often given oxygen to help him recover. Roger sings the whole time while drumming and I have wondered where in the world he gets the breath to do both. Unlike most singing drummers, who tend to be more mellow with their drumming, Roger hits the skins hard and with a lot of flare. Someone is confusing this concert with Queen's concerts in South Africa. This show was at Wembley Stadium in London, was part of a charity show for famine relief for Ethiopia and there was no controversy around it. The controversy comes when Queen decided to to concerts in Africa while the country was going through political struggles over apartheid. Many in the music communtiy were very uspset with Queen's decision to do those shows, but the band felt that music had nothing to do with politics and they were not going to stop people from having a good time just because governments couldn't come to terms with issues withing their countries. Those shows were very successful and fans were so grateful for Queen doing them. This was very much a home town crowd for Queen but Queen was not scheduled or confirmed when the tickets were sold, so none of the people at this show had purchased tickets expecting to see Queen perform. The band said that they were nervous leading up to this show but they were fine once they got on stage, that adrenalin thing again. Freddie was sick, though. He had a throat infection and was advised by his doctor not to perform...but this was the perfect Mercury crowd...the entire world.
Loved this reaction, subscribed! It's so much fun getting to see ppl discover Queen's amazing catalog, they are so versatile. Keep going, you will find songs you can hardly believe it's them, and they nailed every genre they tried. I want to recommend Liar live at the Rainbow 1974, it's great because each band member gets a chance to shine, and there's even a bass solo 😊
What an AWESOME reaction! FYI…. There is also a QUEEN ENCORE AT LIVE AID!! Later in the evening, Freddie Mercury & guitarist Brian May were asked to sing: “IS THIS THE WORLD WE CREATED?” …as part of the grand finale. (You can find the video on the official Live Aid channel!)
Radio Gaga - written by the drummer based on his young child’s nonsense talk. Also adopted as her name on the back of this song by a certain Lady Gaga…
If you watch closely you will see that Brian May plays 3 different guitars during Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Definitely need to watch Somebody to Love live at Montreal. Keep up the great reactions.
They topped this with their performances in Rio Each show was watched by nearly 200 million people in over 60 countries and in front of 250,000-500,000 people for each night setting a world record for the biggest paying audience ever at the time. It was later broadcast in the United States on MTV as " Queen: Live in Rio ".
Freddie was nervous because his doctor said him NOT to perform because he was sick. I saw Queen a couple of times late 70's and early 80's in Belgium, and I still love them today. Unreplacable band! Thanks for sharing.
Anything from the Wembley 86 concert is phenomenal. John the bass player wrote Another One Bites The Dust. Brian the lead guitarist wrote Tie Your Mother Down which is a total banger. Also excellent from Wembley 86 is The Lap Of The Gods🔥🔥🔥
I posted a video trying to summarize Live Aid as I still remember when I was a boy watching TV. But it's just some minutes of a show of many hours. Amazing concert, so many stars.
Radio Gaga. Is about those of us that grew up listening to radio (am radio) which you heard music and radio shows. Worlds of War … invaded by Mars , refers to the radio show War of the Worlds in the 1940’s. Scared everyone. A Halloween audio show. Check it out. It’s on Welles was a genius.
All four boys are highly educated. Brian is knighted from the King. Astrophysicist amongst many other things. Roger studied Dentistry and has a degree in biology. Freddie has a degree in Grafic Design .. Deaky has a high degree in Electrical engineering . And all four are beautiful human beings with high integrity.
@@DanCanReact king Charles has to be the one to Knight someone. And that makes you Sir. Like in the case of Sir , Doctor Brian May. Also they have been very close friends for years ❣️
@@DanCanReact oh, so that explains your humbleness, I'm subbed to another Canadian called Allana, her channel is called adventures and naps, you might want to check it out, she's beautiful and very funny, stay happy, safe and healthy my Canadian cousin
So fun watching you enjoy the phenomenal Queen with the magical Freddie Mercury work a third of the world with 72,000 in the stadium and the rest of us dancing at home and watching this on the tv. Watching them live in concert back then was one of my favorite memories. There hasn’t been as charismatic a rock singer since Freddie. RIP: Legend
have been told that if you download from the Official Queen youtube channel you do not have to worry about strikes or blocking, you don't have to alter the video. Queen is in the process of selling their catalog so not sure how long that will last.
Queen did finish the sale of their catalog for 1.27 _BILLION_ to Sony. I didn't even consider they might start blocking. We should have been consulted about sharing rights!!!
I'm mostly reacting to a lot of what seems to not cause copyright issues on RUclips. My goal isn't to infringe on anyone's copyright but to just give my reaction and spread some joy. Thanks for sharing that, maybe I'll react to more Queen if that's the case
@@DanCanReact So far, you are fine if you download videos from Queen Official. They do not do strikes ore remove videos. You don't need anti-blocking techniques. However, the Live Aid show needs to be taken from the Live Aid site in order to have the same privileges. You did fine, Dan... no worries. I hope this helps!
The broken mike stand happened at one of the very early performances by accident but he kept it as it gave him freedom to work the stage. It could become anything, a golf club, an air guitar, a gun, ive even seen him smash it on to stage floor and sparks literally flew, and of course he was naughty with it sometimes. Yes he could be wild sometimes but that was part of his charm, you never knew what he would do next. Kept people on the back foot including the rest of the band.
Freddie Mercury - vocals, piano, writer Dr. Brian May - guitar, backing vocals, occasional lead vocal & keys, writer Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals & occasional lead vocal, writer John Deacon - bass, writer
Freddie on lead vocals, piano and guitar. Brian May (Sir Brian) on guitar and vocals. Roger Taylor on drums and vocals. John Deacon on base and vocals.
This concert aired live around the world. I was 16 and my family and I were glued to the TV. Loved being a teenager in the 80s such a fun and care free time with so many diverse bands.. Freddie was definitely one of the best vocalists and showmen of all time. RIP Freddie ypu beautiful soul❤️ If you appreciate good vocalists listen to Paolo Nutini live at Abby Road studios. He is a Scottish singer with Italian heritage. His vocals are off the scale. Ax
The mike stand was a thing of Freddie's which came about by accident and he liked it.. He used it to great effect, sometimes as an air guitar, sometimes being incredibly rude with it! 😂😂
Freddie sounded this amazing after having laryngitis the week before. He did a spectacular performance, but said afterwards that it felt like he was singing with a throat full of glass shards.
Thank you for reacting to this timeless and iconic Queen performance! This was a small audience by comparison to Queen's earlier concerts in Rio de Janeiro (January 1985) at the Rock in Rio festival. They performed on 2 nights, each night with an estimated audience of 250,000 - 500,000 people! 😲 After Live Aid, their final concert with Freddie Mercury was at Knebworth and had approximately 125,000 - 200,000 people in attendance. Legendary. 💖💖💖
Freddie Mercury was, is, and will always be, the ULTIMATE frontman. He crowd control is over 9000!!!! Rest well, Freddie. Your legacy will be remembered forever by those of us who remember TRUE musical genius.
The Who were scheduled later in the evening, Queen was a last minute schedule, when Freddie , teased the guitar smash, that's exactly what it was a tease, and also pure class.!
Radio Gaga is about the demise of the importance of the Radio in our lives. You have to know the history of the radio he references. Look up the War of the Worlds impact on the audience. In the 1930's there was no video. Video didn't come in the everyone's living room until 1950's and 1960's. Freddie when asked what instruments he plays responded with "the audience darling". Another great front man and talented band is Journey with Steve Perry. Check out their Houston concert. Also, Queen rehearsed for this performance. Every artist/band got 20 minutes to perform for this concert. Queen didn't even have a light show set but stole the show. U2 and Madonna had already performed by this time. They were just starting out and had only a couple of hits out at the time. This concert started at Wembley in London and ended at JFK stadium in Philadelphia. Elton John opened Wembley, took the Concord over to Philadelphia and closed the show there. That was a huge.
Crazy Little Thing Called Love was written by Freddie as a tribute to Elvis! The video is really cool! By the type of music you love at your age I bet you were raised in a rural area. I live in the very very rural Midwest!! This was my music back in the day! My kids and now grandkids all love this kind of music as well as classic rock and country! Rock on man, I subscribed!
I actually don't! My father was just really into this type of music so I was around it a lot as a kid. Haven't listened to classic rock in ages, so I decided to return to this type of music now!
@@DanCanReact Whenever my kids play the jukebox people say "You raised him/her right"! I'm happy you got exposed to great music growing up and you're coming back to enjoy some of it again! Back in the day you actually had to have real talent, no auto-tune or pitch-correction (that started in the late '90's), no paying thousands of dollars to see a band lip-sync. I saw Bob Seger in 1983, 9th row floor tickets. The price of a ticket was $21.00 and when you got to the stage you could practically reach out and touch him, his sweat hit your face, it was great! I remember watching the Live Aid concert at home and wishing I was there! The set by Queen is considered "20 minutes that changed music forever". And this was Freddie on a day his vocal cord doctor ordered him not to perform! Well, no way would Freddie let his fans down!
The guitarist is Brian May, and along with drummer Roger Taylor, still tour till this day as Queen. The bassist, John Deacon, said there could be no Queen without Freddie, and retired.
Thanks, Dan! Queen were amazing live... I was privileged to see them in my late teens/early twenties... appreciate your reaction! (p.s. this was not a "Queen" concert... they were a last-minute addition.. yet, it was widely considered that they "stole the show"... lol)
16:56 The shows on 12th and 18th of January 1985 (Rock in rio) had the biggest crowd Queen ever played to, with an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 people in attendance each night
I was meant to be their but my daughter had to go into emergency surgery so I stayed with her but from the hospital I could at least hear it while waiting for her coming out of surgery
Queen performed over 700 concerts, some very large. Rio 1-12-85 - 350,000 Rio 1-19-85 - 250,000 London 9-18-76 - 150,000 (some reports claim 200,000) São Paulo 3-20-81 - 131,000 Stevenage 8-9-86 - 120,000 (some reports claim 200,000) São Paulo 3-21-81 - 120,000 Slane 7-5-86 - 95,000 (some reports claim 110,000) Mannheim 6-21-86 - 85,000 Budapest 7-27-86 - 80,000 London '86 (two nights) - 72,000 each
Tickets for the whole day cost £25!!! Press had to pay £100, and Queen weren't on the play list until after tickets sold out, so this wasn't precisely a Queen audience. But listen to how the crowd all know the words to all the songs
Queen is made up of 4 individuals with their own talents. They cannot be ignored when it comes to music because of their nature in creating music. Not everyone who went to this event was a Queen fan. It was only too late that they found out that the Queen was one of the performers. Freddie at this time had a throat infection but still mange to have a great performance. Very professional band. IMO, they deserve to be recognized as the best band in the world. I hope you can react to "LOVE OF MY LIFE" at Wembley or Rock in Rio. You will be more amazed on crowd interaction and will never be disappointed. Thank you for your great reaction! ❤👑
So, so, so much to say about Queen. Probably the only person who knows more than the majority of us Queenies is Taylor Hawkins. Put us all together, we might equal the knowledge he had. Queen, like Rush, changed through the decades. To "get" Queen, it's good to start at the beginning. Or the end. Or the middle. And keep moving from there. Know that there are no two songs alike. Even their hit songs were wildly disparate. Go into each song with open curiosity and you will leave with neverending awe at their incredible abilities and creativity. One thing to remember. There was no autotune, no Melodyne, no clicks, they didn't even wear headsets or earbuds and used corded mics and instruments. This is what REAL music is. Done with love and talent and not technology. (Well, except for massive overdubbing. _wink to Queenies_ ) Re: Apartheid and Queen, they had a series of concerts in S. Africa in 1984. It remains controversial all these decades later because it was a United Nations cultural boycott where people/actors/musicians/etc. did not go S. Africa because it gave $$ to the white oppressionist government. Queen defended going, saying it was with "racially integrated audiences." They did lose sponsors and people were pissed. Queen did not join Live Aid until all the tickets had been sold and all the acts solidified. They were brought in as a last minute "please!" from Bob Geldof. I do not think, from anything I have read, that the anti-Queen sentiment was anywhere around Live Aid, by performers and obviously not the audience. Some thought attending Live Aid was their "I'm sorry we went," but that didn't come until 2021 when the amazing drmmer and vocalist Roger Taylor, finally, publically said they had made the wrong choice to go. Their place at Live Aid was great before, but is historical now. The other artists stopped what they were doing to listen and watch the set. Elton John told Freddie, "You bastards. You stole the show!" and David Bowie who went on after Queen, said, "How am I supposed to follow that?" Hope that helps some!
Really interesting read! I love how raw and real the music was from back then. It's truly rare to find music of this level nowadays. I'm surprised they were more of a last minute addition to this concert, I would have thought they were the headliner of the show! That's actually really surprising. The part about the other artists stopping to listen to the show is so cool to hear. You'd assume they'd just be minding their business and concentrating on their set, but they couldn't miss this electric performance. Thanks for tuning in!
there was no controversy around this performance. the concert you're referring to took place the year prior in South Africa - not to raise funds for the famine in Africa like LiveAid. The gig at Sun City was controversial cause South Africa was an apartheid state and many artists had boycott playing there, while Queen decided to play stating that they play for fans not for politicians.
I've watched this hundreds of times so find your amazed/pleased commentary entertaining. I love the dreamy bubble encasing Queens performance...new to me. So, fabulous Freddie apologised to the camera guy for interfering with them. Seems they loved it! Edit, again. A fav moment for me was the very end where Freddie and Deaky (John Deacon, bass) perfectly in sync throw their right fists into the air bringing a resounding end to their concert. Your cloud frame cut Deaky from that scene. .Oh well. lol
Thanks so much for tuning in Marval (if that's your name). Maybe I''ll go for a simple rectangle frame in the future, since it gets copyrighted anyway. Appreciate the feedback 😄
Maybe I don't know him well enough, but I remember him being an eccentric man in the interviews I've seen (not in a bad way he was really funny), so it wouldn't have surprised me.
@@EvoDevo2004 Well, he developed. He didn't strike me as being comfortable with that sort of negative behaviour in front of an audience. My own feeling is that it creates a barrier and that didn't seem at all what Freddie was about. I am sure that what he wanted from audience interaction was more comradery than anything else.
Best live performance ever! From the best ever performer who was taken way to soon. There was 72,000 people at Wembley that day with over 1.5 billion watching around the world! Epic! Great reaction bud.
On days when I seem to find more junk than usual on RUclips, I remind myself how many young people have seen this performance who otherwise might never have experienced Queen. I can deal with a little junk and avoid it most of the time. Watching this once again proves to me the good on RUclips far outweighs any bad.
I really appreciate the heartfelt comment, glad you enjoyed watching the video! It was definitely an experience to watch Freddie walk around the stage with such grace, especially considering how sick he was when this happened.
Take a look at Rio they played to over 200,000 at each of their concerts there i think there were two. a sife note of interest they had just come back to England from south America before Live Aid x
Sorry, just found you; so, I’m late to the Comment Section! I’m a 66 y/o Glamma. You seem to enjoy the background of things. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: FUN FACTS FIRST: The kisses are for his Mom who was watching him on Television. MATTER OF FACTS: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person! NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience. NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THIS THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?). NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him. SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW: nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves! LEAD GUITARIST: Brian May, is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! They made out of an old cabinet his mother was going to throw awayThe included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)! I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music! LAST INTERESTING INFO: When he is waving his arm it is to tell the cameramen which way he is going bc he’s moving around so much. When he kicks his legs backwards that is getting over all the cables, that are on the Stage. TV Cameras were not cordless back in the day!! And, “We Will Rock You”, is actually a Prelude to “We Are The Champions”. (It is really all 1 Song!)
Damn, Freddy is paying homage to radio,we are so busy with phones ,CD streaming music. Talking before TV ,Cell Phones, Snapchat Twitter, when black an white TV Only place could hear new music all over the country was the radio
Some people complain about me talking during the video, a couple actually, but I'll continue to comment as I watch cause that's what a reaction video is! You understand LOL.
Turn up the music 🎶 and turn your mic down a bit. Before concerts, Freddie is known to down a couple shots of vodka to calm his nerves. RIP FREDDIE MERCURY 1946-1991 DIED 11/24/1991 🎶🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🥀
This concert was nothing to do with South africa or Apartheid. It was to provide funds for other african countries which were having Famines. You are muddling it up with another concert performed by queen in South Africa. The Live aid concert was at Wembley Stadium in London
Hello Blondie, hi handsome what a cute face you have, very nice. Volume is very low for the video, please do a sound check before you start to react to a video, it will make your videos so much better for you and your viewers. I must admit it Id rather look at you than the Queen performance. Sorry I am sure you don't appreciate comments about how cute you look from a man. I think you would prefer a woman to say to you. Men or women whether they be straight or gay can recognise whether a man is nice looking or not. Enjoy your looks while you have them. Time flies by so so fast and very quickly we don't look the same as we did when we were younger. All the best to you. GOD BLESS YOU!

Some awesome, Queen facts, you sir are pinned! 😁

Live Aid made 124 million dollars for famine in Africa . When the boys left the stage , a Prince from Dubai donated $1 million dollars .
That's a lot of money, that's a resounding success for a fundraiser to me.
Plus ~90,000 in John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, where the concert was being simu-cast.
The best 25 minutes ever! There will never be anyone else like Freddie ever again!
Appreciate you tuning in Nightcrawler 🔥
Carrying the mic stand was a trademark of Freddie. The story goes the stand broke during a very early concert and Freddie just went with it.
Love it!
@@egk2584 it was at St Helens when he was in the band Ibex before Queen
All four members were inducted into the songwriter’s hall of fame. They are the only band where all members were inducted. They are also in the rock and roll hall of fame. Both Freddie and Roger have a 4 octave vocal range. Freddie had a throat infection during this concert and was told by his doctor to not perform.
That's mind-blowing! How many artists/band do that nowadays 🤷
Truly a legend 🔥
Thanks for your Queen reaction, loved! Yes dear, Crazy little thing called love Freddie wrote to homage Elvis. He did in 10 minutes while taken a bath. He loved Elvis! I didn't watch the Live Aid live but I was at Rock in Rio 85, live, the 2 nights of Queen...unforgettable! Big hug dear! 🎉
Thanks for your comment Gracie, really appreciate it! Making that in 10 MINUTES is crazy!!
Freddy was a pure entertainer with once in a generation voice! 😊😊😊
You're so right Kimberly!
please react to Somebody to Love live in Montreal. -amazing performance!
4th person now! I definitely have to watch it now.
Roger Taylor wrote Radio Ga Ga. He had this to say about its meaning:
"Radio was the first place I heard rock 'n' roll. Today it seems that video has become more important than the music itself - too much so, really. Music is supposed to be an experience for the ears more than the eyes."
Check out "Somebody to Love" live in Montreal.
Profound meaning, love it! And I definitely will at this point, you're the third person to say that.
Queen is a British rock band that was formed in 1970 and was comprised of:
Freddie Mercury - Lead vocals and piano
Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals
Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals
John Deacon - Bass guitar
Queen has released 15 studio albums, 10 live albums, 16 compilation albums, two soundtrack albums, 2 extended plays, 73 singles, and seven promotional singles.
Here is a video of the rehearsal along with an interview with the band about Live Aid - ruclips.net/video/e1ccSGPjd9o/видео.html
Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage.
“And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time because they could connect with an audience.”
Queen's playlist was:
1. Bohemian Rhapsody (just the ballad and guitar portion)
2. Radio Ga Ga (the song that inspired Lady Ga Ga's name)
3. Freddie's Call and Response
4. Hammer to Fall
5. Crazy Little Thing Called Love
6. We Will Rock You (just the first verse and guitar solo)
7. We Are The Champions
Wow, appreciate the detailed breakdown of everything, thanks sassy paws!
@@DanCanReact best vocal rock performance. Fred Mercury the best voice , performance..and rock in roll star!! God bless the QUEEN!! 🇧🇷
Two of Freddie's favorite genres were Elvis and Southern Gospel. These were the influences for Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Elvis) and Somebody to Love (gospel).
Yeah, many people were pointing that out! It's awesome that he was honoring another music legend with this song 🔥
I was 18 years old the first time I saw Queen in 1975 and fell in love. Saw them several more times and still in love 50 years later. That's staying power 😁 Freddie, tu est mon ange 😘😇 je t'adore.

I completely agree, I think U2 did a fantastic job as well.
Somebody To Love live Montreal 1981 is mandatory. Ranked as the second greatest live performance with Live Aid still holding the title of the greatest live performance in Rock history 33 years after the death of Freddie ❤️👑🎸🥁🎤🎹
Yep!! My reaction for that is coming next week 🥰
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤️❤️
Appreciate this, answered a lot of questions I had and gave me more insight on Queen. They truly are a special band!
O heard there was 70,000 there, and with the 13 satellite broadcasting, there were 1.5 million.
1.5 billion actually! That's insane 😵
Thanks for subscribing Sheila 🥰And thanks for the suggestion as well!
What an AWESOME reaction!
FYI….
There is also a QUEEN ENCORE AT LIVE AID!!
Later in the evening, Freddie Mercury & guitarist Brian May were asked to sing:
“IS THIS THE WORLD WE CREATED?”
…as part of the grand finale.
(You can find the video on the official Live Aid channel!)
Wish I would've seen that, guess it wasn't added to the full concert for some reason.
Queen is a band that is better Live than studio. The just are❤❤❤
I love both their live and studio renditions, they are a gem!
Radio Gaga - written by the drummer based on his young child’s nonsense talk. Also adopted as her name on the back of this song by a certain Lady Gaga…
That's such a fun idea for a song, love it! And I ALWAYS think of Lady Gaga when I hear this song.
If you watch closely you will see that Brian May plays 3 different guitars during Crazy Little Thing Called Love. Definitely need to watch Somebody to Love live at Montreal. Keep up the great reactions.
You're the second to say that! I'll have to check it out for sure 😁
Watch the concert from Wimbley in 1986, just Queen for two hours, the whole thing on RUclips.
2 hours? It wasn't just a 20 minute set 😱
Gotta check that out!
Freddie was nervous because his doctor said him NOT to perform because he was sick. I saw Queen a couple of times late 70's and early 80's in Belgium, and I still love them today. Unreplacable band! Thanks for sharing.
That makes sense! He did a fantastic job regardless, even masking the fact that he was nervous and sick altogether.
Another one bites the dust is another fantastic song!
They played at Rock in Rio earlier in 1985 in front of 300,000 to 500,000 each of the 2 nights they performed.
500,000??? That is so many people. I'd die being in front of that many people 😵

have been told that if you download from the Official Queen youtube channel you do not have to worry about strikes or blocking, you don't have to alter the video.

That's what makes him such a good entertainer, I was genuinely on the edge of my seat watching him.

The mike stand was a thing of Freddie's which came about by accident and he liked it.. He used it to great effect, sometimes as an air guitar, sometimes being incredibly rude with it! 😂😂
Yes, Freddie used that mic w/ mic stand as a total "tool"of his during concerts.
The fact that he has that much confidence to have fun with a Mic stand is admirable. This guy has way too much charisma 😆
Freddie sounded this amazing after having laryngitis the week before. He did a spectacular performance, but said afterwards that it felt like he was singing with a throat full of glass shards.
Ow. Sucks that he had to go through this WHILE performing the show of his life, but I'm grateful for it.

Thanks for the insights, appreciate it!
I saw that they did a performance with Adam Lambert not too long ago. That was cool!
Thanks, Dan! Queen were amazing live... I was privileged to see them in my late teens/early twenties... appreciate your reaction! (p.s. this was not a "Queen" concert... they were a last-minute addition.. yet, it was widely considered that they "stole the show"... lol)
It definitely wasn't a Queen specific concert, but in a way this was a concert performance! That's awesome you got to go, must've been a blast. 😃
It’s probably been said already, but is worth repeating- another Queen ruled in England that day.
That's such an awesome line, love it! Very true.

The shows on 12th and 18th of January 1985 (Rock in rio) had the biggest crowd Queen ever played to, with an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 people in attendance each night
Yeah, isn't that absolutely insane?! Can't believe those numbers are real!
I was meant to be their but my daughter had to go into emergency surgery so I stayed with her but from the hospital I could at least hear it while waiting for her coming out of surgery
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, I hope she turned out okay...
72,000 people, but Queen played a lot of concerts bigger than that. Slane Castle, 95,000, Knebworth, over 100,000. They were amazing!
Apparently Rio was the largest from what the commenters have been saying. It was 200k+ which is insane!!

Rio 1-19-85 - 250,000
London 9-18-76 - 150,000 (some reports claim 200,000)
São Paulo 3-20-81 - 131,000
Stevenage 8-9-86 - 120,000 (some reports claim 200,000)
São Paulo 3-21-81 - 120,000
Slane 7-5-86 - 95,000 (some reports claim 110,000)
Mannheim 6-21-86 - 85,000
Budapest 7-27-86 - 80,000
London '86 (two nights) - 72,000 each
Thanks for the info, that's a cool breakdown of their show turnouts!
Tickets for the whole day cost £25!!! Press had to pay £100, and Queen weren't on the play list until after tickets sold out, so this wasn't precisely a Queen audience. But listen to how the crowd all know the words to all the songs
Even if it wasn't a Queen crowd, I wouldn't have guessed! Everyone seemed to be having an amazing time.
Will definitely consider love of my life in the future, thanks for the suggestion!
_wink to Queenies_ )
Re: Apartheid and Queen, they had a series of concerts in S.
You stole the show!" and David Bowie who went on after Queen, said, "How am I supposed to follow that?"
Hope that helps some!
Back then we only had radio! No internet no cell phones only radio
Yeah, it's crazy how quickly technology took over
You realise someone had to follow that!
Of course!
The backing vocals are Brian and Roger. They all were the vocals no one else
there was no controversy around this performance. the concert you're referring to took place the year prior in South Africa - not to raise funds for the famine in Africa like LiveAid. The gig at Sun City was controversial cause South Africa was an apartheid state and many artists had boycott playing there, while Queen decided to play stating that they play for fans not for politicians.
Gotcha, thanks for filling me in.
@@DanCanReact Hmmmm interesting!
Freddie had too much class to destroy a musical instrument like that. Too much respect for both instruments, the guitar and his audience.
Maybe I don't know him well enough, but I remember him being an eccentric man in the interviews I've seen (not in a bad way he was really funny), so it wouldn't have surprised me.
@@DanCanReact For a real artist, as Freddie was, that is too negative and destructive.

I was 8,000 off! Wow, that is an incredibly large number of people watching this. That must have been a lot of pressure, but they killed it 🔥
72,000 in the stadium
Yeah the RIO concert sounds insane. Might have to react to a part of that concert soon!
See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW:
nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since.
Really interesting facts, especially the one about his voice going from low to high HZ so effortlessly! Thanks for watching :)
They topped it in Rio.
Yeah I heard! Crazy.
A million in Rio
Crazy!!
1 year after this show, Queen played another 2 *_sold out_* shows at the same stadium.
Wow! Incredible 🔥
Damn, Freddy is paying homage to radio,we are so busy with phones ,CD streaming music. Talking before TV ,Cell Phones, Snapchat Twitter, when black an white TV Only place could hear new music all over the country was the radio
Yes, times have definitely changed! For better or for worse, I don't know.
You Do know thar thre are 4 members or the group all writing songs -. No 1 in songwriters hall. Of Fame .
Yeah, some commenters have mentioned it, it's mind blowing! 🤯
Have you watched "in the air tonight" performed live by Phil Collins?
David Bowie had to follow this set.
Yeah, he said that he didn't know how he would top it, I don't blame him!
If you think that is a big crowd, watch some of Queen's Rock in Rio set from 85!
Yeah, apparently 300k+ attended. That's insane!
@@DanCanReact Iron Maiden were on just before Queen and their set is worth watching too
metallica queen disturbed guns n roses ac/dc are bands i listened to as a gen xer
Disturbed is a band that I love! Listened to them a bit when I was super young, maybe I should do some reactions to their stuff.
You need to watch the film to understand why this happened
Gotcha! I watched it a longggg time ago, I barely remember what happened.
72,000
You should talk during that’s the whole point of a reaction video! Sports commentators don’t just watch the whole thing and then react now do they 😆
Some people complain about me talking during the video, a couple actually, but I'll continue to comment as I watch cause that's what a reaction video is! You understand LOL.
Please react gigi de lana from philipines love the way you lie cover
Thanks for watching, and appreciate the comment!
Turn up the music 🎶 and turn your mic down a bit. Before concerts, Freddie is known to down a couple shots of vodka to calm his nerves. RIP FREDDIE MERCURY 1946-1991 DIED 11/24/1991 🎶🎤🎹🎸🥁🎸🥀
RIP! And I'll probably start pausing from now on so I can be heard while also not missing out on the music.
Freddie had a severe throat infection and was advised by his doc. not to perform
And he did it anyway? Wow, I really didn't tell. Not ONLY was he supposedly nervous, but he had throat infection?? He is the Queen of rock 👑
Freddie had too much class to destroy a guitar.
It's funny that people say this when he does naughty things to a mic stand 😂
17:48
No.
Freddie were too professional to smash guitars and stuff.
Fair enough! I just thought he would end it off with a bang (literally)
Volume to low really spoiled the reaction!
Probably gonna just pause next video if I have anything to say. Maybe that'll keep everyone satisfied so I won't be missing any of the music 😁
This concert was nothing to do with South africa or Apartheid. It was to provide funds for other african countries which were having Famines. You are muddling it up with another concert performed by queen in South Africa. The Live aid concert was at Wembley Stadium in London
Fair enough, was reading about it but maybe it was a poorly researched article, or I misinterpreted it.
Appreciate it either way, thanks brother!
