Yeah, a 1-minute pick from one of the best pickers in the world, *with* a specialized tool, is the mark of a *good* lock. Not amazing, but certainly worth using.
The 83 series is more about rekeying capability and compatibility with door locks and other industry standard cylinders, not more exotic high-security cores. But the cores they make for them are much nicer than normal door locks or generic KiK cylinders (which they can also accept for using keyways Abus doesn't make. Oh and they have SFIC versions of several models too)
Looked demanding. No easy entry with that tool. It will not be easier with a traditional pick and turner. Especially not in the wild where can not chose the position. I would say this is more than enough pick-resistance for a real application. If someone realy want to pass, they will cut it.

This lock lasted a solid minute against an extremely-skilled lockpicker using exactly the correct tool for this lock under ideal conditions and no pressure - that's actually pretty damn good pick resistance.

It‘s not sufficient to have that tool. It makes picking easier but it doesn’t turn a novice into an expert. A novice wouldn’t feel that pin dropping, especially if not at home in a quiet setting, get frustrated and give up.

I doubt you find any recent Abus locks that would fall to a wave rake. They are not incompetent. Some of their stuff is for low security applications to be slightly cheaper, but in general they know how to make locks.

I tend to use ABUS locks quite frequently as they have some models that currently are the cheapest ones that's certified by the insurance company I use. And that is enough security for the shed I've filled up with the more dissapoining tools that doesn't deserve a place in the garage
Abus makes quality padlocks, easy to work on and I love the convenient pinning window (be careful not to drop pinning window rotation limiter into bible pin chambers = serious core seizure)
Thx to your videos a saved a lot of money after loosing bunch of my keys. Just purchased some cheap sets from China and opened locks with little to no effort. Was shocked how easy it was actually.
You sound like you value saving money - cheap locks are usually trivially easy to pick. Get something high quality and things change, a lot. Modern Abloy and you won't be opening it with picks.

Beautiful. First lock I bought was a silver Abus with "mushroom pins" for locker number 11 at college. One classmate was a big dude from Brixton and he opened it in 10 seconds with a coke can.
When LPL said, "Let's see what it takes to get this open," and didn't produce a wave rake or a small strip of plastic, I knew this would be a decent lock.

This is seriously one of the longest picks in the thousands of picks picked here. And he even used his super specialized tool in ideal conditions, which most people don’t have.
The beauty of that padlocks is simple change the cylinder to high security and you just upgrade it he quality, of course that does stop a cut off blade, the pick that anyone can use.

Started the pick at 0:53 and ended at 1:53. Surviving a minute against LPL and his specialist tools is very competent work.
The tool isn't uncommon at all, it's just the easiest way to decide a lock for making a new key.

ABUS enthusiastically supports locksport, so they are good in my book.

It's a Masterlock. All LPL has to do is angrily stare at it and it will unlock.
It was rated by Master Lock at security level 9, which means he'll probably need the comb pick rather than the wave rake.

The lishi helps the viewer see what is going on inside the pin stack. Like shaggy lpl only used like two percent of his power.

I bought an Abus all brass padlock 44 years ago for my tool box. I doubt it is very pick resistant, but it is still there.

From all of the unique padlocks I own my favourite is a beefy Lockwood Assa Abloy - silky smooth and looks / feels strong AF.
In the end you can either use this one Abus lock or 100 Master Lock's. Depends on you and your comfort zone. Quality vs. Quantity. 😂
