I have to say, mad respect for PACLOCK. Sending over a lock to LPL is a risky business and hardly rewarding - but sending over a lock with THIS engraving to LPL is just badass. Kudos!
I currently have this very cool steel cone-shaped lock on my shed. I love that it's drill-resistant and it looks neat. It's very good except it froze up several times over the winter and I needed a hairdrier to open it. Mine has a brass core w/brass key and a blue silicone keyhole cover. The one that LPL worked on today has a different core that perhaps may be more cold weather-friendly. I put a call into Paclock to see if they have any suggestions to keep it from freezing up. If you get this, make sure your shed door design can accommodate for the two hidden bolt holes behind the lock itself. This protects against a bolt-grinding attack. Unfortunately, I could only use the hidden bolt on one side, as I had nothing to drill into behind the other side.

no one at masterlock gives a shit shit because 99% of the population will continue buying their locks because they are the cheapest locks at home depot/walmart while also having brand recognition.
They already do,... it comes out as a wimpy sounding squeak everytime a rank novice successfully picks a Masterlock brand lock,... which is a lot! Masterlock has never ever EVER made a legitimately good lock,... ever. *EVER!* Not even a part of a good lock without finding some ridiculous convoluted way of screwing up the rest of the lock's design.🤣
This BRAND. He recommends it whenever their products are featured. He has a good relationship with them. He respectfully points out flaws if he finds them, and they take those seriously and improve their design. I wouldn't be surprised if they were one of the top brands for actual level of security.
What Otaku said. They seem like one of the only company that still try to innovate and make life tough for thieves, and they crave LPL critics so they can improve the flaws in their locks. I mean, innovative shape against drilling, stainless steel pins, really hard to pick without a tool like the one shown AND all security pins, unbumpable, uncombable... And it LOOKS sturdy, so many thieves will try another target instead of this one since most of them won't bother with something this difficult.
They did simple but effective things to improve the security (positioning the core to defeat standard pick tools, variable strength springs, long driver pin to defeat comb picking, cone shape to divert drill bits). This on top of standard anti-pick measures makes the lock quite a bit more secure than most locks.
I love watching ANYONE who can raise their work to the level of art. Even watching someone pushing a broom who has done it for years is enlightening. Being able to see a machinist work at his craft is incredible. The precision, the attention to detail. It's remarkable to see someone shave hundreds of thousandths of an inch off of a billet to exacting tolerances. I would love to see the L.P.L. ply his craft in the legal environs. Um sure I would be enthralled. Because I am certainly captivated by the work with locks he does and that is but a hobby.
Much of that time is spent explaining and disassembling it, not just picking. Had it just been a picking video, it would be under two minutes. He picked it in about 1 minute & 35 seconds.
It took LPL a whole 60 seconds (almost exactly) to pop this sucker open. That's a damn impressive lock, I know where I'll be looking if I ever need something like this.
The mounting against the surface as a defense to picking is so interesting! Such a small but significant difference (at least to the basic tools you’d expect someone to use)
Also would help protect the core from being drilled. The key way is the weak point, and having it close to the surface prevents most drills from getting a straight shot at it.
The other benefit it that the core can not be drilled as easily, as the keyway is a weak point. When it's mounted like this, drills can not reach it easily.
I'm starting to get the feeling that at least one PacLock employee is a former Masterlock Employee who was always trying to get them to improve their locks but never got listened to so he say Screw it I'll make my own locks, with hookers and blackjack.
I believe they started off to be a competitor to Master Lock but with better locks if I am to believe what I've read on Google. I believe they are targeting the same market as Master Lock but providing a superior product.
He had all the time to prepare and get creative, with all the tools accessible in his home (or office or wherever he films this). If you would be burglar or hired lock picker, you would have limited time and limited equipment on the spot, out of your home or office. Therefore any nonregular “unexpected” lock is a big stopping stone in my opinion.
...and don't forget that in this video, LPL didn't pick this flat on the desk to simulate the flat surface of a van door for example. If he did, you would have seen that pulling up on the tensioner between thumb and index finger is much trickier, and doesn't give the same feedback as just pushing up the tensioner with the thumb (as he did here). Same thing with the pick part of the tool. Bending your index finger up whilst hooking it under the picks finger knob will reduce feedback. It's possible, but a lot trickier than the way he does it here. I thought he might have made a specialised pick tool for this, with a 90 degree bend in the handle. Besides all that, to guarantee you had the right tool for a multitude of these, which are very likely to have different cores, you would need a set of lishi decoders, not just one, and that would probably be well above the budget of opportunist criminals. So, it's a very good design.
I think LPL cares a lot about good locks and he finds it in the PACLOCK brand and that’s why he is getting them more on the channel. I don’t think he ever gets payed for making these videos, the only thing he gets is the actual lock.
Well, he'd roast them like the others if he could, but since the Pacloc team actually watches his videos and actually work to prevent flaws in their lock, it's hard for LPL to find much to say against their locks...

But the reason I like this video so much is the tool you used. I found a whole new understanding (visually) of the pins and the terms you use to describe what you are feeling. This was absolutley great on the visual scale. Thanks and keep making it look easy.
Saw this video today after watching the latest videos showing the spool and serrated pins working while picking, and I could visualize what was going on inside this lock so much better than before. Especially the counter rotation and false sets helped me understand what kind of pins were inside before you even mentioned security pins. This is a testament to your thoroughness and teaching ability that I, not even an enthusiast in lock picking, was able to pick this up simply while being entertained by your videos. Genuine kudos from me, LPL.
Being able to more visually see the springyness or the binding when using the AM5 was very cool and definitely allowed me to visualize what you're saying better than with a more traditional pick.

@raw viper it does. You are guessing what his intentions are. He was sent this by the company, to be reviewed and lock-picked. If he was attempting to sell his tools to thieves, he failed, because he is making it incredibly easy for companies to simply not send their locks to him, and improve their design

I agree with the comment by ‘LeVick’; I wasn’t particularly interested in locks, but your presentations are ‘addicting’! Your narration is so calm & clear, & the video quality excellent! Recently a friend literally across the country enlisted my help I dealing with a failed ‘Simplex’ door lock via txt pixs, & I figured out what probably broke after looking at online exploded views of the lock. I’d like to see him pick this lock when it was actually on something and butted up against a wall. He mentions how it would be harder with traditional picking means, so he used his new tool, but I feel like it would still be much harder and prone to many more mistakes if it was up against a wall like how it was designed. He’s still the king so I have no doubt he would get it open, but it would show the true potential of this lock!
It wouldn't be too hard, center punch a divot into the conical top and drill through, making something conical doesn't prevent drilling it just makes it slightly more annoying.

Not only did PacLock crash and burn Masterlock, they also buried the body and made it look like an accident.

1-2 minutes of picking
@@knightsofthewicked9121 With a specialized tool and LPL being the picker. That's pretty damn good if you ask me.
@@knightsofthewicked9121 and he's probably slower so people can follow what's going on, but then again he's been doing this a lot and is using a specialized tool for it

So true, Master lock makes one good core, only found in their plastic tag-out lock 🤣
Mr. LPL was more than a little enamored with this lock. How refreshing.
This on top of standard anti-pick measures makes the lock quite a bit more secure than most locks.
it helps when he has an financial agreement with the manufacturer. This is an advertisement
From start to finish, he took an entire minute to pick it, with a specialized tool...I'm sold.
7 minutes?!?! Havent even started watching it yet, but I'm already willing to bet it's a lock of the century candidate
Much of that time is spent explaining and disassembling it, not just picking. Had it just been a picking video, it would be under two minutes. He picked it in about 1 minute & 35 seconds.
@@my3dviews picking it still took longer than almost all the other locks he posts videos about 😂
It took LPL a whole 60 seconds (almost exactly) to pop this sucker open.
It also has really good pick resistance on top of that. Nice lock.
The other benefit it that the core can not be drilled as easily, as the keyway is a weak point. When it's mounted like this, drills can not reach it easily.
What do use this lock for?

“Probably helps with pick resistance” seconds after having picked it
He had all the time to prepare and get creative, with all the tools accessible in his home (or office or wherever he films this). If you would be burglar or hired lock picker, you would have limited time and limited equipment on the spot, out of your home or office. Therefore any nonregular “unexpected” lock is a big stopping stone in my opinion.
The different strength springs add resistance against low skill attacks like raking. They dont do as much to hinder single pin picking.
...and don't forget that in this video, LPL didn't pick this flat on the desk to simulate the flat surface of a van door for example.
