- It's important you challenge yourself musically as a musician. This video is a result of me challenging myself. One of the most defining sound shapers in modular and ambient music is reverb. We like to douse our synth sounds in luscious reverbs to create depth and space. So I thought, what would happen if I force myself to create a patch with no reverb at all. I loved the result so I decided to record it and post it for you to see and hear. Enjoy!
Modules:
Laniakea by Magerit
Sealegs by Intellijel
Mother 32, DFAM by Moog
Plaits, Rings, Beads by Mutable instruments
STO by Make Noise
Hermod+ by Squarp
Audio/video: Raaf

Yes! I love this. I’ve been falling into feeling like reverb is a necessity. Thank you for the wake up call. So many more possibilities… this is awesome.
Ah thank you for your kind words! I hope you will discover new sounds that will inspire you and your music!
nice stuff, a great challenge to work without reverb, still sounds outstanding!
Thank you so much! Its always good to challenge yourself, it brings you so much. This one made me mute my reverbs and delays when working on a patch on a regular basis now and I sometimes find gems!
This is lovely. Melodically it really works. Who cares about reverb?
Thank you!
When reverb disappear, I can imagine it! That's what's magic about reverb!
Wow, a patch thats survives without reverb!! 😊
Thanks! I was suprised as well, its so nice to find new ways to create music this way
Wow! This is such a wonderful patch and jam! Do you have patch notes on it! Timbres and melodies and progression are all so beautiful! Glad you posted this one. I’ll have to take up this challenge too!
Oh thank you so much! Im happy you enjoyed it. I did not make patch notes I’m afraid but one of the tricks I use is using noise from Plaits, having a 16th note enveloppe on it and using a sample and hold of the same tempo in the freq cutoff in the filter. It creates a sense of space and rythm. Beads (a granular module) plays a big part in it too.
This is so wonderful and complex, yet approachable!
Thank you so much! Your description of my music is exactly the kind of music I want to create. ❤️
Very nice!! I love the concept. I often remind myself that if when I am not pushing myself outside my comfort zone I am preventing my own growth. It works! This is proof. Bravo! 🌞🎶🎵
Thank you! Yes we need to keep challenging ourselven, its expands our musical horizon!
@@raafmodular absolutely masterful performance. Very well done!
This part at 1:33 😮!
Thanks! I like that transition as well, its a change in the way the arps are played
It works! I can totally get behind this sort of challenge. I sometimes look for some obscure function of a module that I've never taken advantage of and force myself to make it the centerpiece of a patch.
Thank you! Oh great idea as a starting point for a patch
this is insanity 🤯🔥
Thank you, a bit of insanity is the way to go! 😎
Very cool and entertaining. I have to try this too and challenge myself. These textures are really nice when played dry.,
Thank you so much! That means a lot coming from you. I love your channel and your music!
Totally awesome. +1🪬
Thank you so much!
Ouch my ears, where is the reverb ??
Just kidding, I love hearing all the transients of this piece with no smearing. Great job !
Thank you! Yes I love how you can hear every little detail as well without the reverb.
Excellent patch!
