the memory man just hanging on by some velcro is lovely jubly
notorious issues in lots of london railway arch venues bc of train signalling equipment, it comes through single coil guitar pickups. prob what you were hearing with the old psu.
bigger is ALWAYS better. 👍👍
Interesting build, the rolling racks look a nice solution. you can just drag it behind you🤣🤣.
The new set up looks amazing btw
About the wheels you put on the base cases, youtube creator I Like To Make Stuff use quite often a type of wheels where you dont have brakes, but can instead fully fold up the wheels so that the case sit directly on the floor when you dont want it to move. I bet you could reach him (you did some christmas maker event with him if my memory is right) so that he give you the exact reference.
MS10 sounds like a clanger
Your parts collection drawers hanging in the wall are inspiring. I love seeing people's home labs. Could you do a video sometime showing your setup? If you haven't already
It’s always so mesmerizing to watch talent and craft at this level… amazing and inspirational content!
Could you imagine this and the marbleworks machine going at it side by side?
I feel like I'm witnessing a true genius here. All the work that went into this setup.. it boggles the mind and inspires me (a visual artist) to just work harder and fear nothing! Thanks man.
“It was making some weird noise…” mmmm, how on earth can you tell? Brilliant, I wish I could understand how all the modules interact.
3:00 did you offer the blood sacrifice to the cage nuts?
I recommend you add a few side rails to your 19-inch racks. That is a lot of weight and torque supported only at the front! Your traveling will put a lot of stress there. You may even damage the equipment face plates as a result...
As a live synth band , we can fully relate to the struggle of carrying a whole synth beast because in the end of the day it's the feeling of playing live that matters and not just karaoke-ing .
Look at Sam going all fancy pants with his off the shelf parts and expensive wheels not from a shopping trolley. What next screen printed face plates in a smooth font!
In all seriousness this all look awesome and any little tweaks that take some of the headache out of live performance the better. Also love London but it is a bitch for RF and EM leaking out of everywhere and feels like any wire longer than 1cm becomes an aerial for every stray signal. Hope the new kit helps filter out some of the noise.
Funny opening line that : )
What a multi-talented chap. As a boy I used to play fiddle in a folk band, and a couple of the elders in the band were clever like you. One of them was a boat builder so we used to have all these speaker cabinets, stands, synth bass box for the accordian, even amps that were home made from marine ply and other boat building materials & fittings, wrapped in vinyl or painted black. Watching you practice your various crafts reminds me a bit if this and gives me a warm nostalgic feeling inside. The motivation, can-do attutude and skill you demonstrate in pulling this off us exceptional. You are already rewarded, even if not with money, but I hope you have this too. Terrific.
As for the blue ear cups, Rit textile dye (esp. DyeMore) works on a lot of plastics. Might be an option for permanently turning the headphones into a more tasteful black colour.
Might last longer than paint, especially when taking them on gigs where they'll see rough use
I'd just use a sharpie.
I'm spraying em pink
"Sorry folks, give me a few minutes to figure out what gets plugged into where so I can get some music going."
I have absolutely zero understanding of what you’re talking about when explaining what your equipment has in it , but do enjoy watching you assemble everything and creating your own music 👍🏼
Awesome :) More blinky lights and modules always look cool
When you do a live show, do you change your patch cabling around between songs?
One or two
sounds super smashing great
hey i got one of those Don't be a Dick stickers on my computer, some geezer at Glasto was handing them out around 15 years back
That did sound like the Knife synth. I been looking at flight case parts and new cable jacks so I have em when I break headphones. Im fixing to buy enough jack parts to last till 2099. 🥰
I saw and heard the new setup last Wednesday in Hackney and it was bloody brilliant. I was the bald Dutch guy asking you for a selfie like a 14 year old girl 😂
The same without asking for the selfie - Olso Hackney was a decent venue. Embrace the chaos.
......ditto, awesome show.......@@markmalpus3325
The giant mega projects are dope but it's really good to see you back on some Kosmo shiz. Classic LMNC. I'm also grateful for the power bus recommendations, been wanting to upgrade the power in my case as well.
I demand you add fiber optic lights.
Man that opening sequence is like an homage to the “Forbidden Planet” 1956 movie soundtrack when visiting the Krell underground complex. 👏👏👏
A LMNC and Beardyman collab would be an interesting and awesome thing to see.
We need this, both are incredible!! Different approaches but similar concept- no computer vs all computer haha
Sam, I love this design. It's practical and solid like a horse. Bring your own studio lol. BYOS
LMNC! Keep rocking bro. We love your music
gotta tell my mate to return my memory man ! Epic rig
Cool stuff! I’m a little surprised you didn’t change up the front panel on the STS, to better match your unique DIY style that Kosmo sports. Anyway…another great video! 👍🏼
If only it was possible to get a 6809E processor based PC and using a bank of ADCs and DACs to allow you to build a instrument similar to the CMI FAIRLIGHT V.
Sick dude watching you build each part to put it together like this killler 🤘🤘🤘🎶🎵
Your mad lad energy is adorable. Wish you all the best.
Loved the Oslo show last week. Great show!
black spray paint will add to your headphones/mic especially since it will add to your deconstructed/derelict look if you know what I mean...HAve a good one m8...
finally always thought ur live set up was WAY to small
When does a modular synthesizer get big enough?
N E V E R
How many oscillators are enough?
A L L T H E O S C I L L A T O R S
We need to oscillate the oscillators while they are oscillating.
Oscillate into an alternate dimension.
Wow what a rig. I'm always so impressed with your speed and familiarity. Even though I love knob twiddling and I understand synths, I think I would panic about finding the right one under pressure at a gig.
Batteries are even noisier than psus because they dont have a localized ground. I practically gave myself tinitus from the earrape ground buzz when I tried to power a DIY piezo amp on a 9v battery instead of my bench PSU.
The Headphones just remind me of an Astronaut helmet why you don't you wear something like this instead, I think it will suit you very well .... plus a fitting spacesuit!.
I love seeing anyone increasing their modular setup. My stupid metric for improving my little AE modular (I went that route for cost and space concerns) is to make the most annoying sound possible or the biggest farting noise. I'm not exactly joking.
If it can do that then it kind of shows the potential you can do with it and therefore makes it worth doing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I may change to a Behringer modular setup at some point though.
blue is literally my favourite colour, i guess yours is black? Silver? hahaha
Switzerland is waiting to see you LIVE ❤
"CHECK OUT THE CASE BASE"
Got me listening to Rhythm Section again 😂
I love that you built the cases your self because honestly ive wanted to do something similar. I wanted to make a table/keyboard stand that i could hook up second or third tier keyboard stand hook ups in the back. But i wanted the legs or one leg of the table to have 19" rack mount hook up for some of my processing units and compressors. Maybe even use that behringer eurorack rack mount kit i bought and never set up. I know i can do it but i wish i had a CAD program or somethig i could draw it up first with because otherwise ill just buy wood and start cutting. We all know that will end up with buying more wood when you mess up that first time 🤣
we've had problems with them beyers at work (big telly sports co); the mic booms detach at the ear-goggle end. we switched the AKG in the short-term, AT for keeps.
You should pepper that supply, and rails, with ferrite cores, chokes and decoupling caps. This is just because you mentioned noise near tube stations. Normally this kind of thing is not needed.
Add voltage regulators per module. Update power supply if possible. Computer supply's maybe.
Overkill is indeed the best place to be!
Sidenotes: great hair, great style, great motto on the case. Never change!
Good stuff man! 😎 ..Finding myself wondering how you and Anthony Marinelli might collab....
the tune jam at 7:20 sounds so sick
If you ever feel a 300 quid headset is too cheap Schoeps used to make a headset using one of their microphones on a Beyer headphone set, designed for F1 commentators, extremely good noise isolation.
Booked my ticket for Paris in march 2024, can't wait to see you live there! :D
Look mum no computer and nick Reinhart would be the ultimate mad supergroup.
There's something constant, a never-changing habit of painting like you don't care, for a result you don't care :D Great build anyway!
You mad lad, I love it. Pure smiles, love it.
You can tell it's right when you get lost in random stuff and just start jamming. If you like your own music, others will too :)
so many good upgrades! power supplies! sturdy base! big ol wheels! how long does it take to set up at a gig? i struggle a bit with this and it ends up taking me 15-30 minutes if everything goes perfectly. any tips for that?
yooo the track at 7:45 is legit. was waiting for the blown out and reverbed post-punk russian vocals to come in
This is the first time I am watching the preparations for a live gig i am attending 😄. Are you driving to the gigs in rmany with cosmo in/on the Mini? :D
Sam, great work, and as ever great to see a musical & technical mad genius at work. The intricacies and complexity of your set up is mind blowing, and how you know it inside out, backwards, forwards, upside down, and can make such awesome tunes. 🙂😎🤓
“And we got a furbie just hanging around “ of course you do lol …nice rig though …that’s for sure
The opening sounded like the Forbidden Planet soundtrack!
LookMumNoComputer: US Tour, when? :D
And it looks like my sticker survived the building process!
You're not finding knobs and buttons. You're the knobs and buttons. 👍
the gopro was fired up before you got on stage, but then it wasn't!......
Let us know if you’re ever coming to Australia!
Nice upgrade!
Imma gonna sample the sh!t outta this vid!!!
Using my koala.
Today I learned a lumber yard is called a "timber merchant" in LMNC land 😉
Are you U.K. ? If not then fair enough! Timber merchant is the name here. Unless you are from U.K. then fair enough we do not come from the same circles :D
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER I'm from the US, Minnesota, yeah they're lumber yards here, but I like the name Timber Merchant
I've watched your other videos on live performance and this one "clicked" with me. I finally "get it!"
Much love you feckin genius
I just joined the patreon, not for the content just for the support. but omg you got like 3k members, so you get a good montly return on that. No wonder you're able to afford all the awesome stuff you get and run the museum. you got great passion for it all so I give you support. I wonder if you could get a loan to buy your musium building? the patreon would cover the installments. You could have it paid off in like 4 or 5 years
That's why I give a few dollars to Sam and other creators. It's nice knowing you are helping the creators with a financial safety net so they can create without them necessarily having to have a product or service to sell.
hey thaks a lot for that! 3k! interestingly enough im not sure why patreon does it, but its actuallty around half that, it seems to make up a random number i have found its quite confusing. i get a return each month enough to pay the bills and overheads of museum to attempt to pay it off so it runs with minimal overheads, buy the parts for the vid and take out some money for me personally. so it is very helpful! its not a get rich scheme but it is certainly a "have a job doing cool videos opportunity" so i thank you very much!
thankyou very much! at the minute its all going into making the museum proper for next year some vids to come! thanks ever so much :D@@mllarson
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER well that makes me even more proud to support you mate. I hope you keep doing what you're doing and I hope you triple your patrons because your a legend.
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER You're welcome!
Man you are cold I saw your singing you like Human League
I think i heard your wall mounted phone ringing!
Awesome rig! You could save a little weight by swapping the Pro-600 for a Behringer Pro-800 (and gain 2 voices!) - if that's not politically incorrect... and perhaps have an Arduino send MIDI to the X-32 for remote controlled recording using a big red button ;) .
thanks nicholas i did look into it, but i opted against it as im making a poly module and ended up deciding i didnt want to get a behringer synth. :D cheers.
Amazing, loved the live performance footage in the end
Don't improve it too much or we may never experience you dealing with things spontaneously failing mid-set again! It was the second best thing after the music itself!
Just kidding, I can't imagine how stressful that must've been...
Hahaha this is very true!
When are you going to visit us in Sweden?
1:19 we call em sawhorses over here in the states lol
Looks like a bought one ! Sounds even better!
I love how hardware sets are making a come back time to break out the korg emx 1
Also ive been watching you work to super fascinating even to someone who knows absolute end user level of any production could still get some satisfaction of watching you work on stuff you on some next level brother with this new one man the case the everything you could straight up make the new piano of like modular synths because you can aquire all the parts but as for a full like interchangeable starter full modular not a just one box system
Daft Punk have a successor!
Any chance of you playing in Scotland?
Replace the floor rack with the gameboys with a draw to put patch cables in.
Heavy
So, Cosmo 2.1? 😉
I actually made a U-shaped desk out of 12U rack cabinets I had made at a previous job. What's nice is you can get drawers, shelves, networking equipment, etc. that rack mount. All together I have 72U of rack space across six cabinets. Highly recommend building desks that way 😀
The desk sits in the middle of my office room and I can access the devices from front and back.
Wow, would like to see that. Do you have any videos of it?
@@FUNKINETIK No, but if I ever clean up my office (I'm chaotic) I should probably at least photo it and upload them somewhere. Just imagine two of the cabinets side-by-side together, then a space for your legs to sit comfortably, and then another cabinet. Now mirror that layout for the other side. Finally, put three desk surfaces on top in a U-shape. I actually sit at the "bottom" of the center of the U (if you were to look overhead), so the cabinets are surrounding me. I had these in a different configuration but then bought a house and had some more cabinets made and ultimately came up with this arrangement. Works wonderfully 🙂
@@mllarson sounds a bit like TONTO that Robert Margouleff and Malcom Cecil built, was used on Stevie Wonder’s early 70’s classic albums.
@@FUNKINETIK Not quite like that. All racks are below the desk. Tonto looks pretty epic though!
What's the name of his band?
Excellent work Sam, as always. Fun to see Furby still makes you giggle : )
The lids on your modular cases could do with an upgrade so your not having to unscrew them every time….. all in good time.. probably way down on your mighty to do list.
Thanks for your entertainment… would love to support you with patreon, but I’m skint and living in my van : )
cheers!@ yes alas i wrote an annotation on the vid, they used to have latches but i forgot to put em back on for this ha. if in doubt get the screws out :D. thanks again. have a good one!
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER ooops soz I missed that. I was also thinking of flight case hardware and all that jazz. Shame I’m a bit of a distance away, across in Gogledd Cymru (North Wales) I’d happily donate my joinery skills to the cause. Not forgetting VJ / video art/mapping and stuff like that : )
I did live! you were right!
Very cool improvements. I'm not one to mention, but I did notice the saw horses that one vid... relatable af... Use what works, fix it as soon as you can. XD
Hey, the Triple Gameboys are back. :D ... And those gold modules look interesting, tho. Can't wait to see what they can do. :3
I heard that ARTURIA prepare VST version of your BIG M😊DULAR, Sam! I will buy it 1st.🎉
You don't know what your doing, Ha ha
Very nice, i need to see this in Paris !
Hopefully the cleaned up power will help - if not entirely, maybe try some em shielding on the back of the module boxes (copper foil or large sheets of PCB substrate affixed to the rear of the boxes all round, preferably grounded, I'm no grounding expert but iirc /not/ to the audio ground, just to the earth in power socket)
To put vocals through guitar pedals on the cheep i use an old behringer UMC204 with the USB cable just plugged into a phone charger
I reckon Colin Furze's "secret" tunnel needs some music from the 13.30 mark ;) in future episodes... maybe when the DeLorean lifts out of the ground the first time(that's how i found your channel originally, from a Colin Furze episode)
So saw horses - the US version equated to: "it was a halfway house". I almost laughed my bits off. Good work as usual and again. Thanks for looping us in. Oh and good work getting the system on some solid ground. It was driving me mad.
totally awesome!🤩
what kind of delay are you putting on that vowel oscillator around 12:33? sounds ace
Kosmo splashback
