EP I ON BANDCAMP LINK IN DESCRIPTION :) Hainbach came around after his London show at IKLEKTIK the other day, We didn't really know what we were going to do but Darren had emailed me about a gumtree listing of a strange speaker to be taken away to save from being thrown away! i gave a donation to the churches charity, i didn't know when i was able to get it because Hainbach came over, luckily johnny offered to go get it the day Hainbach was here! Hainbach started jamming with the ELKA rhythm machine and it started to actually work and after a while we realised we could probably bash out a fun vintage Krautrock inspired EP! so that is exactly what we did :D you can get the EP on bandcamp! link in the description.
There's really nothing like this in the United States and I have to admit I'm a bit Jealous considering I grew up with a love for music creating music and have a heavy background in telephony. I've worked on some of the last remaining analog telephone selectors in America before everything went digital as any early 20 something year old. Nobody finds a reason to save and preserve this technology like they do in the U.K.. The amount of work that went into analog communications is astronomical and the engineers etc deserve to be remembered. The younger generation has no idea how good they have it. Much respect.
this needs to be on vynal
Yep new Genra
Please please please release it on vinyl 🙏
Wasssss ewuuuu ooop
What a lovely time, thanks for letting me hang around again!
whooop whoop! what a fun EP!
Oh, I was so hoping you guys would be friends! 🥰😍👏👏👏👏👏👏
I think from the video it may be obvious what hainbach wrote kalte Hande about 😂
@@kateapple1I don't get it :-/
I love seeing you guys hang out. Such different sensibilities and yet so much crossover in terms of willingness to share your knowledge and excitement about music.
Beautiful people, doing beautiful things…
Somewhat unrelated but have you heard of Rotary Subs ? They're essentially a fan with blades moving around to the sound to move massive amounts of air to and from the room, functionally behaving like a gigantic sub... In most cases enough to make walls resonate ! While less of a music creation tool, that could be a cool thing to test out in the museum
Paul from PS Audio has an interesting commentary on those- He suggests they're better for movie-type sub-bass effects since they're rather noisy and need to be hidden away.
Daniel Fajkis posted a video half a year ago making the "Worlds Loudest Subwoofer" with a Rotary Subwoofer using the interior of his house as the sound cavity. The entirety of his house was shaking.
Yeah, that's what I though this was from the thumbnail! Once he opened it I'm thinking oh cool there are the blaaaawait those are speakers... wat
Joans organ. .. Vibrates a wall ..
@@Lizlodude me too! xD
This entire museum feels like a Venus Fly Trap for Trent Reznor...
I wasn't expecting this crossover, but in hindsight it seems blindingly obvious. Love it!
Don't you mean "Hainsight"?
This is a fabulous crossover.
looks like it should have a joystick for collective pitch control
I love helicopter jokes
Well done.😂
Being in the same room with a Leslie, or other rotating speakers, it so awesome. A Stereo recordings don't really fully capture that amazing 360° immersion of awesomeness.
they got damn close.
I agree. I have a Yamaha D-80 in the studio with a built-in rotating speaker and not only does it at chorus and vibrato, it actually changes the way you the sound.
I'd say you can get pretty close with a hi-fi system with room correction. I left a comment in the main thread about how shocked I was to hear the sound rotating around my living room. It's like those binaural sounds your supposed to listen to with headphones, except my speakers are 8 feet away.
It believe you have a Compton Rotofon loudspeaker, originally developed by the John Compton organ company for use with their electronic church organs, and later used by Makin Organs who took over the electronic organ activities of Compton when they went out of business in the late 1960s. Makin were still making Rotofons in 1983 (a local church in Bishop Auckland had two in their exceptionally large Makin organ installed that year). The idea was to produce the "chorus" sound of a traditional pipe organ when many stops were selected, which early analogue electronic organs could not achieve with static loudspeakers. Easily done today in software with digital electronics.
Just found this little video showing the sound difference with and without rotofon: ruclips.net/video/HBEYARa09Ok/видео.htmlsi=NrcsIm5PcevID8RQ
It may be "easily done today in software" but I refuse to believe it would sound even half as good as being in the same room as this awesome machine.
I was thinking it sounded like it was designed to create a feeling of space for use with organs.
I was wondering... Would it help to break up any resonance pressure nodes and antinodes that might develop and be uncomfortable for congregants when playing in a church.
Mega cool
You guys work so well together!
The organ speaker is - (or is similar to a design) - made by the Compton Organ Co. - later part of Jennings Musical Instruments, IIRC.
Oh this is a Compton!?
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER I think so. I think the idea was not so much to give the slow Leslie swirl, but a slightly more subtle movement around the building - also to keep standing waves on the hop !
Those 'rotofons' definitely look *similar*, but this looks like an improved/modernized one... www.stancurtis.com/Compton%20organ%20pics/Compton%20Rotofon.jpg
I like that natural phasing effect. It was immediately audible when he switched on the spinner motor.
Is that it's normal speed or can it rotate faster
Thank you working so hard to preserve and share all of this equipment.
What an absolute blast! It was a joy seeing you both make music together but also have candid joy at exploring the instruments and speakers. It was a lot of fun to watch!
Sam I love that you are keeping history alive I bet there are so many europunk/neuromantic music legends who are excited over memories of yesteryear.
Nice to hear Kraftwerk is back in top form.
This is so vibey and specific. You are both so creative I am always amazed how easily you embrace embarking on new projects so fearlessly. Bravo.
The Rotary Weirdie speaker sounds like something Pink Floyd would definitely have used if they had one. Also "Kalte Hande" ... Surely inspired by your environment!
They did use a Yamaha rotary speaker. An RA-100, I think.
Oh! Like the one shown at 8:00. I think that one's an RA-50, but basically the same.
Now museum, now you BUMP
Love seeing the crazy journey youre on and vibing to the amazingly creatuve stuff you do and gind. Friggin fascinating, everytime!!!
More collabs with Hainbach please! You both complement each-other so well!
Who expected a Harmonia reunion with no original members.
much love from across the pond. love your music and dedication to the art of it all.
A mechanical phaser. Amazing.
Fantastic stuff! I love when two talented types get together with old gear. Off to contribute and download the EP. Then will record it onto cassette with my Sharp GF 555 for a real LOFI experience. Thanks so much for this!
I've alwayd thought that minidisc suits the theme of his channel and music best.
The bit starting around 10:44 was beautiful. Almost reminds me of something from the old Castlevania games on the NES.
Nice to see an old Ibanez UE Unit in action. They don't get enough love these days.
Jamming with a pal. Nostalgic and awesome.
I'm not even a musician, but this has become my number one yt video source! I watch it all from start towards end, that's fascinating... Thank you!
Music is about experimenting and this was like a mad scientist’s effort. Well done!
That jam at around 5:20 is amazing!
It's so wonderful to see you two jamming and just spending time together. This is creativity at it's best.
Love the excitement in Hainbach's voice when he hears the weird cap sounds. "What's that?!"
Every video you release is extremely interesting. Amazing jam, love it. Thank you!
Wow with those stereo mics it really gives that lead impressive sound movement, combined with that reverb it creates a lovely sound stage.
That speaker sounds amazing! Who would have guessed that it would sound incredible with many styles of music.
You guys just jamming in a room full of weird and wonderful instruments is just a dream id love to do, nothing beats getting lost in a jam session
What great fun messing about with all that vintage equipment! Pretty inspiring I would imagine.👍
The song at 10:45 sounds sooooo neat on the cabinet!
I had so many doubts you can pull off that museum. It seems like such a huge success. Unlike anything else Congrats :)
2:25 The rock setting is so iconic. If you speed it up a bit it sounds straight up like she wants revenge - tear you apart. That 12212 bit is in so many rock songs.
That speaker is so damn cool. And sounds pretty awesome as well. I love that more subtle shift adds a lot imo.
That Rotofon sounded amazing! Beautiful effect.
This indeed does sound like multiple sound sources with a slightly different frequency, thanks Doppler!
What a lovely sight, Two guys jamming together and having a jolly time it seems, very inspiring actually
Please, Hainbach vs Look mum no computer album
I mean this is sort of that isn't it!?
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER c'mon man , this is just foreplay
Thank you funky capacitors!!!
Sometimes by losing a battle you find a new way to win the war.
love watching you guys Just Fuck Around with sound it's inspiring
It's more like a Flanger/Phaser from a construction and sound perspective. You have even 2 different delays with long and short speaker arms and 4 taps per delay (every 90° phase shifted). It can be used as Stereo Flanger or 2 Mono Flangers with different timing. If you speed it up, it probably becomes more a Stereo-Quad-Chorus. Never seen such build in real life. I just programmed these effects. Crazy
When Hainbach took his coat off you knew he was getting into it and something with great determination was about to come out.
this video is so magical! I did not know what to expect when i came here but it was so cool! :D
oh that rotary set up is absolutely beautiful!!! obsessed with how it sounds I've never seen a rotary speaker like that
Good to have you back!
Couldn't imagine a better combination!
that is beautiful sounding. Thanks for the EXCELLENT music examples using it. It gives me the same feeling i get when I hear mixes I've done on acid. Rare when an effect gives that so well. Slow is good on that.
I love your channel. So many cool synthesizers.
Man i love your place! The things i see in the background blow my mind. There are things I’ve only see in photos. Thing’s I’ve only seen once or twice and things i never seen before. A guy could have a blast in there for a few days just playing with stuff. It’s amazing!
Wow crazy good performance on 13:50!! Gave me goosebumps!!
This was fascinating to watch, loved it
That Kalte Hände is one of the most beautiful songs I have heard in a long time. Instant Buy.
Dude, you guys sound dang good working together.
Clever how they designed spinning speakers and a way to get around knacking the wires. Very clever 👍👍
That speaker is amazing. All this ancient kit sounds really good. Fantastic job.
Worlds collide! Great to see you 2 creatives mucking about with old gear.
Wow you guys both together at last, love you both very excellent.
I love everything about this ❤
What a lovely, comforting crunchy sound.
I have loved Leslie’s for years! I’ll bet this sounds so magic in person
That speaker is fantastic, those slip rings 😀 Never seen anything like it!! Also the music and the drum machine are beautiful 👍
That was fun. Thanks guys. Love the spontaneity and the creativity. 👍
Freaking love these videos
10.49 that bit getting played sounds lovely
amazing, thanks for makin these videos
Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
It's always so lovely to see old gear and maybe strange speakers which are getting new life :)
That speaker belongs in a museum!
this was so cool to watch and brought such a stupid grin to my face. thanks for sharing!!
i can't wait to visit the museum one day! y'all rule. 🖤
Wow... Something spectacular could come out of it.
I love these hainbach colabs
period accurate technology makes authentic sounding tracks. magic
Bought to support this work!!
Wow, I just have to say that was super thrilling from the revelation/investigation/experimentation of/with various gear peaking with the crazy speaker and then culminating with the creation/recording of the EP. Entertaining, inspiring, satisfying.
love the drum machine sitting in a squeaky leather chair lmao
This is a really good one. I loved seeing the creative process unfold. I think the true worth of the museum really shines through with this.
Absolute magic. How blessed a place and time brought into the future. Endless possibilities by all appearances from my sharp eye!!!
Wow, you plugged in the Elka , and that pissed off the schrödingers cat inside it. ♥
It always feels like your videos were filmed in a 70s/80s time capsule, and I love that vibe.
Never been to GB, if I will ever go there the first address would be your Museum. Watching your videos makes me feel like a kid again, exploring the world!
daam thats cool as shit to see how the keys connect, that genius.. u can really get down n not really have to worry about breaking anything
Seeing Hainbach's breath as he sings all bundled up really shows you how miserably cold Sam's musical space is ahahaha
What a cool place to have some synth fun in.
Oh it's emulating the wavey sounds of the bellows! That's clever. I never expected you could get that much of a changed sound just by rotating the speakers.
I do believe you have the coolest musical equipment collection in the world! Love it!!!
amazing sounds and creativity
Loved this! As usual.
That speaker is a thing of beauty. I love the red suspensions on the speakers - very post-modern.... It needs transparent grill cloth.
It's a lot of space taken up to create a sound that an algorithm could easily do.
But I'm sure it's different when you're standing next to it. There's nothing like analog. Nothing like empirical data...
These machines are beautiful.
That is bloody awesome! Such a unique speaker cabnet!
This is brilliant!
What an amazing sounding speaker. I can only imagine how it must have sounded in the church. Great addition to the museum!
that is so neat, i could listen to that for hours love music
What a cool old vintage speaker
The title was not at all clickbait. I've never seen anything remotely like that. Pretty cool tech for something that looks fairly old!
6:00 straight from a dark and sweaty new wave bunker. Awesome!!
