You are a lucky kid to have a dad cool enough to spend time rebuilding a bike for you. Savor the flavor dude, lots of kids can't even get their dad's attention.
depends on how much you ride and what kind of riding. I used to rebuild mine a lot and change the oil /filter after every ride...my engines never blow up.
just spent $1500 (85 and 125) to get my suspension done by factory conection. need all new springs for both and revaled. And now my engine is in the shop getting all done up !!
Obviously you just post before reading, as I stated below we ordered a new frame but it was not in on time for my race that weekend, so it actually cost us more money to get this one welded and then get the new one.
Ahhh.... I remember those days... I sure did put my yz85 through hell and back. lol. Then I did the same thing with my KX125. Sadly I don't ride anymore. Nice bike man!
Reg. YZ's in Canada are going for $2800 stock... my parents are giving this away at $3200 ..2006 , Engine currently bored out to 105cc and runs on race gas. Brand new top and bottom end with less then 2 hours on the engine. Factory Connection suspension, Pro-Taper Fatty bars, beautifully machined, aluminum Talon hubs, oversized Talon spokes and black Excel rims, extra set of Excel big wheel rims and extra rad. This bike is professionally maintained.
Thats good that you win ...do you have any videos for us to see? By the way if you read your owners manual it states you should re-build the top end on an 85 every 20 hours.
@TF0X58 Big wheel refers to the bigger wheels and swingarm. Mine came this way but there are kits you can buy. Its like a step up before going to 125cc.
i have the same bike its kinda tricked out runs great to! very strong quick little bikes these are, i raced a honda just a decent distance and i left him in the dust haha keep it reppin for all the yz's
hey thunderOwns you need to rev it up then let the clutch out until it starts to grab than when the gates drop (if your racing) give a lot of gas than almost pop it but not quite
My dad and I do most of the work but any major engine work is done by Mike Parliment at Strictly Motocross. He sponsors me and is also the new mechanic for a Jeff Northrop #10 KTM.
we are in the prosess of doing the same thing except on a ktm 85 and we are completely reduing the bottom and top end as well as getting the frame welded because of cracks cool vid!!
@HALOMASTER315 we only needed to repair the frame for one race...we had a new one on order...and as for 'your cool looking triple clamp and all kinds of performance stuff.'....my parents only have so much money!
omg your bike is sick! Cool rebuild. I'm sure you want to ride like everyday sincd the rebuild. It's like getting a brand new bike. Your black excel rims are sick also.
Nice looking welds there, what type of welder did you use on it? Ive just started getting into welding and my welds look like garbage compared to these ones.
The kit has bigger rims and swing arm, so you have to change those...mine came already done, you can buy them used already changed. I think a swing arm is like $700
The only reason we re-built it was because my frame had lots of cracks in it. We got them all welded on a Thursday, put it together on Friday for a race that weekend. We picked up a new frame that weekend to replace this one.
I had a race that weekend and the new frame wasn't here yet so we repaired this one as a temp. fix until the new frame arrived. I ride pretty hard so my parents wanted a new frame that didn't have weak spots from the crack repairs.

$3200...Brand New 07 frame! Bored to 105cc. brand new top and bottom end with less then 2 hours on the engine. Factory Connection suspension, Pro-Taper Fatty bars, beautifully machined, aluminum Talon hubs, oversized Talon spokes and black Excel rims, extra set of Excel big wheel rims and extra rad.
i thought this was going to be another lame rebuild video but hell no! this is the best rebuild video i have ever seen for any dirt bike! keep it up bro!
She is a Shar-Pei. Some people call them "wrinkle dogs." She isn't dangerous she is really a sweet dog, but if she doesn't know you she will growl and bark until we tell her it is ok.
Hey dude cool video, just wondering how old and how tall were you in this video? I need to know if I should get a yz85, in 5'2" and Im just a beginner. Thanks dude
now imagine buying most of all the stuff that makes it run and look good, then rebuilding it. that's what I've been doing for 2.5 years now and its finally finished!
hey dude since your such a good rider can you help me with something, i am trying to decide if i should get a big wheel kit for my yz 85 or just spend my money on a 125/250f and move up to a bigger bike. right now i can get either one for about the same price.
Strictly Motocross gives me a deal on parts and labour for my engine work and suspension and Eagles Nest gave me a membership this summer but other wise it's all out of my parents pockets!
my 125 is bone stock but the suspension is factory connection if you put money into your bike first thing you should get is suspension as it don't matter how fast your bike is if the tires are not on the ground
I know that it was 4 years ago now but plz tell me if u can remember did u use the clutch for going up the gears? Or if any one has a yz85 then tell me:)
do they race evry weekend and ride every other day on really tracks wuth big jumps like 50 to 100+ footers and i have no plomblem with them its kool that they have but u were asking thanks hhmmaann
just LOVE it when the bike revs up to the music awww !!!!!!!
Perfect timing
This is my all-time favorite YZ85 video for sure.
You are a lucky kid to have a dad cool enough to spend time rebuilding a bike for you. Savor the flavor dude, lots of kids can't even get their dad's attention.

Very nice looking bike, as Yz's always do, i have a honda cr 125 myself, looking to sell soon to start on the 250s! Keep up good work and riding man.

i like how he hits the powerband at 3:01 and the song like ampes up right there too!
Black rims look sick. They make any bike look better.

This song is awsome, what you ride now?
How come you didnt have anything aftermarket on it? Exhaust?
i have the same bike its kinda tricked out runs great to! very strong quick little bikes these are, i raced a honda just a decent distance and i left him in the dust haha keep it reppin for all the yz's
You can take apart the engine or take it to a mechanic shop and let them look at it to make sure if it is the gasket. Where is it leaking at?
The best yz85 video on youtube by far!!!
hey thunderOwns you need to rev it up then let the clutch out until it starts to grab than when the gates drop (if your racing) give a lot of gas than almost pop it but not quite

It was the last race of the year, I had to finish out the season. I got my 125 in January this year. I am racing the 125 and Super Mini this year.
The only reason we re-built it was because my frame had lots of cracks in it. We got them all welded on a Thursday, put it together on Friday for a race that weekend. We picked up a new frame that weekend to replace this one.

i get the chills every time i hear the powerband kick in at 3:03
You should go to a bike shop and sit on them. You can also adjust your suspensions on either bike to allow for your height.
Probably one of the hottest/sickest most inspiring videos i have ever seen. Fu*king beutiful man, keep up the good work.
No thats how your suppose to ride an 85!! Cant wait to see how you do on the 250!!
Dude I can already tell your a sick little rider by just you riding around I race AMA man y
I hope you race because you have amazing potential and what happens for that damn bike to get like that?????
yep. We had a new frame ordered but it didn't come in time so we had to fix it b/c I had a race that weekend.
Hey nice riding skills man. How long did it take you guys to rebuild the bike once you started?
nice:P...i just bought a yz85 and i get it tomorrow..im so pumpeddd..is there a big difference between the BW and SM?
Depends on a lot of things not just height. I am 5'7 but my buddy rode my 125 last night and he is only about 5'2.
damn that bike accelerates realy fast and your a pretty good rider
$3200...Brand New 07 frame! Bored to 105cc. brand new top and bottom end with less then 2 hours on the engine. Factory Connection suspension, Pro-Taper Fatty bars, beautifully machined, aluminum Talon hubs, oversized Talon spokes and black Excel rims, extra set of Excel big wheel rims and extra rad.

Thanks... these videos are a couple of years old now..I will be posting a new one soon of my YZ 250.
Nice wheelie at the end... I think whhen you have the frame bare you shoulda put some paint on it. Nice vid
i just got done putting in new swing arm bearings, bushing, back tire. And that was hard enough!
I have 23 videos posted , only 3 are on the 1974 TL 125, which is a lot of fun to cruse on.
Yes but you need the big wheel kit to extend your swing arm.
We had a new one on order but I had a race that weekend so we only needed the welds to last 1 race.
im taking mine apart which was one of the hardest things to dissasemble
and how long to rebuild ?
that's the nicest 85 I've ever seen!
We had a new one on order but I had a race that weekend so we had to repair this one then the next week we did this all over again!
She is a Shar-Pei. Some people call them "wrinkle dogs." She isn't dangerous she is really a sweet dog, but if she doesn't know you she will growl and bark until we tell her it is ok.
We only needed to repair that frame for 1 race because we had a new frame on order but it wasn't gonna get here until after the race that weekend.
Hey dude cool video, just wondering how old and how tall were you in this video? I need to know if I should get a yz85, in 5'2" and Im just a beginner. Thanks dude
Yes... we had a new frame on order but it wasn't going to arrive in time for my next race so my dad had this frame welded.
thank you very much mate nice btw who rebuilds for u?
now imagine buying most of all the stuff that makes it run and look good, then rebuilding it. that's what I've been doing for 2.5 years now and its finally finished!
Depends on the shop where you get it done.
i was wondering, what size are your rims and how big is your bike compared to a 125 or 250f? i have a 250f and was wondering how big your bike was.
do you know what you need to do a big wheel conversion kit ?
hey dude since your such a good rider can you help me with something, i am trying to decide if i should get a big wheel kit for my yz 85 or just spend my money on a 125/250f and move up to a bigger bike. right now i can get either one for about the same price.
does this dirt bike look like kimdve like a ttr 125 with the big wheel on it?
sounds good. what do you run 32:1 ?
We had a new one on order...we only used this frame once it was welded for one race.
Strictly Motocross gives me a deal on parts and labour for my engine work and suspension and Eagles Nest gave me a membership this summer but other wise it's all out of my parents pockets!
ur a nasty good rider and thats a nice bike and did u order new parts to it ? also what kind of bars are those no da their pro tapers but what model?
I am 15. My dad and I do all my bike maitenance and minor engine work like rebuids etc.. but Mike does all my engine work.
Hey how tall are you? I might lower my 125 down. Just trying to guage how much I should. I'd like to fit like that on it. My bike seems huge for me
Really nice i'm getting a Yz86 06 for 400 all it needs is a new top end
nice Bike, your riding looked pretty solid 2
Mine is done up to a 105cc engine and runs on race gas so it is pretty damn fast... where do you live ...it's for sale!
Great vid. Awesome camera work...compared to the majority of other youtube vids :P
nice bike:) i bought my first yamaha yz 85 thursday last week :D i love the bike!!!
did you take it apart again and use the new frame when it came?
my 125 is bone stock but the suspension is factory connection if you put money into your bike first thing you should get is suspension as it don't matter how fast your bike is if the tires are not on the ground
This video was posted Oct 29, 2007 - dates can be found on all videos in the top right corner. I moved up to a 250 last year
Is that frame aluminum or metal? And did your dad weld that or the shop
