When I got Motor, he really liked to play rough. I used the "ow" and turn away trick, and now he plays with his claws sheathed most of the time! Cats really catch on quick. I had covid a month ago, and mamaged to teach him how to play hide and go seek tag! It's really cute, helps get his zoomies out, and it helps reinforce the "dont claw me when we play" rule :)

🐵I - like all of us catparents must, every now and then - will tell Gerry "no!" when dared to, but always know to find the intonation that assures him he hasn't lost my love. 🐒

When Muggsi Blanche starts to go someplace she shouldn't or get a little rough in play, I say sternly "Muggi Blanche! Muggsi Blanche! No ma'am! No ma'am!" and then when she turns away or stops what she's doing, I say in a warm, positive, appreciative voice "Good girl! Good girl, Muggsi Blanche!" I tell her she's a good girl from time to time anyway :)

I think most house cats are bored and or in need of a cat companion since they are instinctively social.

I have never been angry at my cats. I correct them gently or if they have unusual behavior it means there is something wrong and they may need to see the vet. I am 74 years old and have never been without a cat. Almost all my kitties have lived into their 20's. I keep the furniture covered in comforters rather than banishing my cats. I worked for a cat shelter and especially like working with feral and cats who had lost trust in people. Very rewarding.

My cats (4 brothers and sister) are mostly well behaved.
When two have a disagreement between them, I clap my hands and say "stop that now".
They both look at me with their ears back, but they stop squabbling.
They settle down after being chastised.
I never hit my cats, but just speak in a stern voice. (without yelling at the top of my voice)

Never hit your car or any animal. I say no when there naughty but it's very rare. Love my two to bits❤

I give my cats correction whenever they do something naughty and they are well behaved because of it. Cats need boundaries like kids do.

I tried the double sided tape all over my counters and he wasn’t fazed. If anything, he started to jump on it more and I think he liked the tape feeling. He also tries to eat tape. He also is fascinated by tinfoil and loves the crinkle sound. Is there anything else to do for counters? I have been trying to teach him down by clicker training, but it doesn’t seem to work unless I have a treat in my hand. :(
The same thing with biting me with play aggression. I say OW really loud and try to walk away but he just jumps after me continuing to bite at my legs. This also is very annoying when I’m trying to sleep, he’ll bite at me and whenever I say OW, No Bite, he just bites harder. :(

The other day the cat lay on the tin foil on the broiler pan and purred while she scratched at it. It wasn't a deterrent at all.

As long as you remember that your cat is just being a cat, it’s a lot easier to not get angry at them (and sometimes you might even find their behavior slightly endearing)!

    Jumping on the counter?
No problem. As long as she's not near the stove when it's in use.
Only time I "correct" my fur baby is when she starts chewing on my arm and hand. Sometimes, she can do it during cuddling sessions. I think she wants to play fight with my hand.
If I've had a bad night's sleep, and she likes to wake me up early in the morning when I need my sleep, I have had a chat with her about that.
    That also daddy needs rest.
Today, she's been cuddling in my bed by my feet after I came back from the treatment for my chronic back pains from an old ribcage injury.
Right now, she's up on her wall cave I've put up for her.
After supper, she was on the counter, I wondered if she was in the mood for a wee play before going to sleep.. As she was pondering her mouse, I wondered why she hasn't used her wall cave in a while.
Now, I'm starting to wonder if animal communication is a thing that might work.
I love my little life saver is endless.
