The ignition damage didn't really get buffed, it's an old bug that was explained in a reddit post. I can't share the link because my comment seems to get deleted when I do, so I'll explain it here. Basically when you're Radiant (or have any other Champion breaker effects active), ignition damage scaling changes to that of the weapon itself, instead of the standard 3x, which in most cases significantly decreases the damage. This season however, Kindling Trigger always applies the initial scorch when Radiant and any additional scorch stacks don't change the ignition source, which is why we always get the base ignition damage of 42k. Ignitions from Kindling Trigger also don't scale with Radiant and Surges (since they don't count as weapon damage), so once this bug gets fixed Tommy's Matchbook will be able to do even more damage with the ignitions.
Been rocking with tommys for a few seasons now , pair it with Dawn Chorus on warlock & rock it with Empyrean fragmant and some form of healing you got constant healing ad clear and nothing but ignites

Been using it for a couple weeks on solar warlock with mantle of battle harmony. You get your super really fast and have a constant solar weapon surge ( I think x4, so even better)when your super is full
For solar hunter, I enjoy it wormhusk and marksman dodge and the ember of sienging. You get your dodge back before you can dump the magazine if you are scorching things properly.
I can explain why the ignition hits higher now. The artifact perk applying scorch on enemies without it will be the first instance of scorch and therefore result in the 42k number. Artifact perk ignition damage is always 42k if it was the first thing that applied scorch to any given enemy
So it will still be here come the end of this season, assuming this isn’t another Wolfpack Rounds situation where some changes made under the hood accidentally affects ignition. In which case, is Tommy’s the only thing that has had its ignition proc buffed outside of artifact mods?
I would not be surprised if this is a bug and the ignition damage is unintentionally increased from the guns damage profile instead of the base subclass version. That being said I think maybe with the ability to increase it via surges or weapon boosters possibly being looked at, I think its a fitting addition to the gun. Afterall it should have a good positive trade off considering the gun can essentially kill you (for the record, putting yourself in the red for health in any content outside of patrol or basic strikes without constant healing is essentially death in this game.)
Not sure why the ignition is hitting that hard, but just as an explanation as to what causes ignitions to scale, and how scorch/ignitions work under the hood -If it's a weapon bound ignition, it will inherit *all* weapon buffs. -If it's an ability bound ignition, it will inherit *all* ability damage buffs. -The initial scorch application is what will determine which one you get. If you get a weapon bound scorch stack (i.e. think Tommy's intrinsic scorch) then things like radiant, armor surges, activity surges, overcharge, etc. Will buff ingition damage. If its an ability bound ignition (i.e. a fusion grenade) it will inherit those buffs, something like verity's brow is so strong on solar not only because the grenade does a ridiculous amount of damage, but the ignition damage is also doubled. This only works *if you had the buff going into the initial scorch application.* -Kindling trigger is base scorch/ignition damage (think something like a sunspot scorch) it will NOT inherit weapon buffs, nor will it inherit any ability buffs. -Only one person can benefit from scorch/ignition damage, but multiple people can contribute scorch stacks on a single target to speed up an ignition.
Honestly, the weapon is pretty accurate even while hip-firing. I’ll probably stick with the Loreley combo for the better Restoration, but I might start using Precious Scars if it gets a better ornament
fun fact: with ember of ashes, it applies enough scorch to do 3 ignitions per magazine (without the seasonal perk), it’s just that the time it takes to actually have the ignite go off is enough to just barely not get 3 ignitions
I used Tommys Matchbook all last week doing GM carries on the moon. Everyone was like "Tommys? For real?" And id usually have the most kills and being able to get my Well back before it went away without Phoenix Protocol
I've been running Stag + Tommy's for about 2 years now. It's been a great synergy that has been constantly slept on. Though, what I recommend more is Tommy + Dawn Chorus + Well of Radiance. I've gotten 200+ kills each nightfall with it because of how frequently you'll generate orbs and cause constantly ignitions. And Well just takes the cake. Through in an Apex with Bait and Switch, and you're off to the races.
I’ve been using this with dawn chorus on solar warlock with heat rises/touch of flame (icarus works too) with fire bolts and 100 discipline, daybreak super, and tommy’s, you can have nearly constant melees and grenades to spam, and have a really easy time scorching and inviting things from afar (much easier than polaris, although less potent). i was never really on the ground which helped with the self damage since nothing was close enough to hit me. i’ve tried it in coil and in Birthplace of the vile gm. it works quite well in both activities, but you need some thinking with heat rises to not just get AA’d immediately. play around cover while in the air, hiding by pillars and walls to break line of sight, but otherwise you’re perfectly positioned to rain hellfire on the unfortunate souls below
Pass. I've never had problems in that room with my crafted Explosive Personality. Solar waveframe + Precious Scars is basically like having Game Genie.
The problem with precious scars at the moment is that it is bugged and overriding any existing resto effects on you or your team mates. Meaning you could be at 12 seconds and get reduced to 3 or 5 with precious scars
That's not a bug it's an inherent problem in the way restoration works I see it a lot on solar hunter It doesn't matter if you stack up restoration to over 10 seconds, if you pick up a new source of restoration while already having restoration it resets your timer to its default amount instead of refreshing what your current max timer is like devour
Glad Tommy is in the spot light. I was pulling out random weapons over the weekend and took them into nightfalls and was baffled how good it was and no one was talking about it.
Now i was thinking a clip from the first matrix or maybe Leon from re4 or some other tommy gun scene. Certainly not the tommy gun vs the Borg scene from Star Trek First contact
I enjoy using hallowfire heart with tommy's matchbook since the buff to hallowfire heart added if you are standing in a sunspot when you get a solar kill it spawns another sunspot where the enemy died. I no longer need an ability to give me sunspots. I can just point and unload which tommy's matchbook likes. May not be the best combination for tommy's matchbook, but I do find it fun.
As soon as the precious scars buff was changed to synergize with our solar subclasses the first thing i did was equip tommy's matchbook. Since that day i was dreading that some youtuber would bring up this bonkers combination and get it nerfed. Here's hoping we can still have nice things.
Have you double checked if Ember of Empyrean extension of Restoration is not being overwritten by a new application of Restoration from Precious Scars? This problem occurs with the interaction of having restoration on firesprite pick-up from Ember of Mercy being at 3 seconds. If you have extended the duration of Restoration to say 10 seconds and you pick up a firesprite, it will drop down immediately to 3 seconds.
Saw someone running a Consecration Titan using Tommy's instead of Monte Carlo... it works surprisingly well actually, as long as you have the aspect that grants melee energy when killing scorched targets. Personally, I find that as long as I have restoration, health generally isn't an issue, though I'm not running endgame content either for the most part. I also didn't even have a healing grenade either, mostly because I am an idiot and don't grasp healing grenades tbh, lol. But yeah, literally only bought the gun to test it with Consecration Titan and it's becoming a fast favorite. Feel like that one skeleton meme "They unblurred the photo! Rattle 'em boys!!!!"
Tommy's Has been one of my favorite solar exotics for the longest time now. Originally used it on my warlock sunbracers build. But after that buff to the titan support helm, I already knew the new fantasy I'd be getting into, So I've been rocking a similar build since the exotic got updated. Protip for others who might use this build, the support helm resoration effect will also proc ember of Benevolance, alowing for some fun ability span (stacks with sunspot regen), or with lorlei you could (obv) just run singeing.
My build made it! But for GMs you probably want Ticcu's because you don't want to be 1-shot in a GM. Ticuu's still triggers the seasonal artifact mods, and makes lots of juicy AoE explosions.
Yeah if healing yourself isn't a problem which for save hunters is not a problem at all there are exotic armor prices that serve that specific purpose (precious scars loreleys stag dawn chorus and phoenix protocol to name a few) tommy requires some effort toward actual survivability it requires thought but could truly be a great off meta option

I’ve been using this to hop between sunspots to sustain my HP and keep the damage buff for awhile now. Paired with Burning Steps, some proper artifact mods, and boom: I’m hitting goofy numbers for a primary. Is it niche? Maybe. Is it fun to melt basically any non-boss enemy: absolutely.
@@evanfuentes4035 I don’t *believe* so, which is why I decided to forego using Radiant and instead leaned more into armor mods and the exotic perk for Burning Steps. I should test it again…just to be sure!
Actually in week 2 I figured out this build myself after finishing the catalyst for Tommy’s matchbook. Oh my god it’s so good and I haven’t stopped using it since.
Oh my god... I can have TWO self-sufficient builds on at the same time! A Banner of War build that only needs the Subclass and armor mods, And a Tommy's build that only needs the weapons and Artifact mods! And Torch can bridge the gap between those! I've got to try this when I get home.
Polaris Lance is also doing 42K Ignition damage. I was working on my Catalyst on Wells of Sorrow last night and it was going absolutely nuts popping off with 42K Ignitions
I was just wondering about that ignition dmg as I tried it out this season out of boredom and was honestly surprised with the DPS it was putting out, and I feel a lot of people immediately disregard this exotic because of the self damage however the catalyst is what makes it shine, so that when in low health it gives superior health Regen for your base health (not your shield) and it is slept on, of enemies stop shooting you for even a single second you will Regen all of your base health pretty much instantly so it kinda balances out being injured constantly by helping keep you alive by continuing to shoot with it and personally I've paired it with actium war rig to essentially extend the magazine to allow for more damage and even more ignitions, there's also several different ways to build into it to make it an even builder build but I've typed too many words already for a simple reply to a video
ive loved solar Scars since i started playing titan but the buff is insane. Benvo 100% uptime, inf resto and radiant, huge ass shields on revive if you or a teammated fucked up( the amount of times that shield has saved my bacon in GMs is insane ) its gotten to the point where solar titan is like all i play with a dash of devourlock
Add that exotic chest piece on Titan for auto rifles and whewwwww you're really cooking. 🔥🔥🔥 Might be able to get more then 3 ignitions in 1 full clip of Tommy's.
so there's a reason why the ignitions are doing so much more damage this season, and it's not a stealth buff if an anti-champion effect is the hit that applies Scorch, the ignition damage will be decreases, as it'll use combatant scaling rather than the normal ignition scaling. this is also what makes weapon ignition brought about by using Radiant deal less damage. you can see in the footage at 0:25 you had anti-barrier auto on in the S21 footage, and that was making your ignitions do less. you can even see this in the footage for the rest of the video- because you have radiant (which is considered an anti-champion effect), your ignition damage averages around 26k rather than the increased number. so, yeah, not a stealth buff, just an isolated incident of getting around an invisible (and rather inexplicable) bug.
ive been using tommys since the start of lightfall and some of my combinations with it is healing grenade and ember of emperyan it has enough dmg to give you infinite restoration and with the other fragment that gives you grenade energy for ignition kills its like a more fun and engaging polaris lance while you basically get rid of the need to have an exotic armor piece at all you just mow through anything you look at. pair this with something like path of the burning steps or warlocks dawn chorus for hunter i recommend just using nighthawk or if you wanna go full into the fantasy sealed ahamkara grasps as throwing a knife (im 70% sure) wont stop your heated up form and youll be back at full ammo pretty easily
His example of close quarters being an issue with polaris is true but I still pick skyburners oath over tommy's because the exploding hipfire rounds work well up close apply scorch to everything on every single round. No need to ramp up and no self harm.
I've been rocking Tommy as my main for a while now, and I do know that Lorely and Scars are really good choices to use with it. But I still find myself sticking with War Rig. I know it is a loss of survivablitiy, but this can be counted with a combo of Ember of Mercy and Searing. And with the seasonal mod Flint Striker, you can drop Ember of Torches if you wanted more scorch.
I've been using Tommy's on my warlock with karnstien armlets, which is incredible, and on console the hip firing feels almost as good as the ADS, even at range, it must have some stealth buffs or something
Tommys is even better on warlock with karnsteins since you can keep permanent res x2 and fly forever. I've never felt more like an angel of death than flying around with this thing.
The footage shows 11k damage from ignition in S21 because it was triggered by sunspot, Scorched ignition from sunspots have 1/3 damage of normal ignitions i don't know why because sunspots might be the most difficult to get ignitions from lol

I can explain why the ignition hits higher now. The artifact perk applying scorch on enemies without it will be the first instance of scorch and therefore result in the 42k number. Artifact perk ignition damage is always 42k if it was the first thing that applied scorch to any given enemy
Tested without any artifact mods and it’s 42k
@@noah1x Thats what i get for trusting an elaborate reddit post, dont mind me Imma throw myself of a window now
@@killer88327can never trust Reddit
So it will still be here come the end of this season, assuming this isn’t another Wolfpack Rounds situation where some changes made under the hood accidentally affects ignition.
In which case, is Tommy’s the only thing that has had its ignition proc buffed outside of artifact mods?
@@DarthDookieManhopefully but this really just makes it in line with other weapons that cause ignitions like Polaris
Not sure why the ignition is hitting that hard, but just as an explanation as to what causes ignitions to scale, and how scorch/ignitions work under the hood
-If it's a weapon bound ignition, it will inherit *all* weapon buffs.
This only works *if you had the buff going into the initial scorch application.*
-Kindling trigger is base scorch/ignition damage (think something like a sunspot scorch) it will NOT inherit weapon buffs, nor will it inherit any ability buffs.
-Only one person can benefit from scorch/ignition damage, but multiple people can contribute scorch stacks on a single target to speed up an ignition.
With this weapon i feel like a 60's gangster, just spitting fire to everyone who cross my sight 😂
With what exotic armor piece?
@@bloodySunday77Probably Dawn Chorus.
War rig with Tommy's has been my fav setup for a couple expansions now
The problem with precious scars at the moment is that it is bugged and overriding any existing resto effects on you or your team mates. Meaning you could be at 12 seconds and get reduced to 3 or 5 with precious scars
That's not a bug it's an inherent problem in the way restoration works
I see it a lot on solar hunter
It doesn't matter if you stack up restoration to over 10 seconds, if you pick up a new source of restoration while already having restoration it resets your timer to its default amount instead of refreshing what your current max timer is like devour
Glad Tommy is in the spot light. I was pulling out random weapons over the weekend and took them into nightfalls and was baffled how good it was and no one was talking about it.
3 words, Actium War Rig
Now i was thinking a clip from the first matrix or maybe Leon from re4 or some other tommy gun scene. Certainly not the tommy gun vs the Borg scene from Star Trek First contact
I’ve liked this AR for a while now. This is just, *chefs kiss*.
no matter how good it is sunshot exists
I feel like its pretty viable with lorley even in endgame long as you play around sun spots
Very much so. Can achieve some crazy class ability regen with ember of singing and Tommy's so you always have it ready too
Have you double checked if Ember of Empyrean extension of Restoration is not being overwritten by a new application of Restoration from Precious Scars?
I was considering using this as my next weapon exotic to get from the monument ... now you solidified that decision for me. Thank you
I'm really enjoying tommys with phoenix protocol and full ignitions fragments on the subclass
Strand+ banner of war+ actium war rig is actually fairly powerful and kill steals from teammates won’t matter as it helps with banner upkeep as well!
I *literally* had this on during a Warlord's Ruin run last night, wrote it off and now here we are.
Back to collections I go.
The kid with the mullet killed me when it popped up. Fucking love you and your editor cross!!
There is no world where a gun that depletes your health is viable in any content that matters.
Yeah if healing yourself isn't a problem which for save hunters is not a problem at all there are exotic armor prices that serve that specific purpose (precious scars loreleys stag dawn chorus and phoenix protocol to name a few) tommy requires some effort toward actual survivability it requires thought but could truly be a great off meta option
proc restoration and this gun is nuts. you out heal to self burn easily. crazy how quickly you mow down everything in front of you
Off topic of the video. I must say I am excited to see what other video games cross dips into once final shape is done. I'm sure D2 will remain a mainstay for a bit even after final shape. However, I am looking forward to cross' great narration on other games. I sure cross is a bit worried about the future but I know that I will for sure, remain a loyal watcher no matter what cross does. ✌️
I took it into last w/e's IB for a meme, explains why it worked so well.
Okay this is the comment ive been looking for. Tommy's buff and surges and radiant all stack right?
@@evanfuentes4035 I don’t *believe* so, which is why I decided to forego using Radiant and instead leaned more into armor mods and the exotic perk for Burning Steps. I should test it again…just to be sure!
Been running Tommy's with Loreley's. Not the best in endgame content, but unkillable in most other things. Such a fun gun
Actually in week 2 I figured out this build myself after finishing the catalyst for Tommy’s matchbook. Oh my god it’s so good and I haven’t stopped using it since.
2:28 Love the use of Star Trek: First Contact lol
10:18 Yeah, the discipline on my warlock.
I saw someone solo a gm with this gun and I've been using it ever since the season started.
Pairing Tomys with Actium War Rig on solar is a lot of fun
Oh my god... I can have TWO self-sufficient builds on at the same time!
A Banner of War build that only needs the Subclass and armor mods,
And a Tommy's build that only needs the weapons and Artifact mods!
I have been using tommys for the last 3 seasons, i was able to get 3 ign then and still now with out season mod
First thing I did when I read the changes to Precious Scars this season was slap on Tommy's. Instant W in my books, lots of fun.
ive loved solar Scars since i started playing titan but the buff is insane.
OMFG, I never thought about combining this with Scars. It was right there the entire time.
My favorite combo has been Tommy’s plus Phoenix protocol with the super kills grant explosion fragment
so there's a reason why the ignitions are doing so much more damage this season, and it's not a stealth buff
if an anti-champion effect is the hit that applies Scorch, the ignition damage will be decreases, as it'll use combatant scaling rather than the normal ignition scaling. this is also what makes weapon ignition brought about by using Radiant deal less damage.
you can see in the footage at 0:25 you had anti-barrier auto on in the S21 footage, and that was making your ignitions do less. you can even see this in the footage for the rest of the video- because you have radiant (which is considered an anti-champion effect), your ignition damage averages around 26k rather than the increased number.
so, yeah, not a stealth buff, just an isolated incident of getting around an invisible (and rather inexplicable) bug.
Works so well if you play into Phoenix protocol. Get huge amounts of super back every well of radiance. Approx 75%
ive been using tommys since the start of lightfall and some of my combinations with it is healing grenade and ember of emperyan it has enough dmg to give you infinite restoration and with the other fragment that gives you grenade energy for ignition kills its like a more fun and engaging polaris lance while you basically get rid of the need to have an exotic armor piece at all you just mow through anything you look at. pair this with something like path of the burning steps or warlocks dawn chorus for hunter i recommend just using nighthawk or if you wanna go full into the fantasy sealed ahamkara grasps as throwing a knife (im 70% sure) wont stop your heated up form and youll be back at full ammo pretty easily
I knew this day would come
His example of close quarters being an issue with polaris is true but I still pick skyburners oath over tommy's because the exploding hipfire rounds work well up close apply scorch to everything on every single round.
I've been rocking this build since the start of the season and a little bit in the last season we had good solar mods.
When The Traveler said "Rattle em Boys" and we must.
* Insert Bad to The Bone *
Made this build yesterday with my phoenix protocol it’s op
tommy's matchbook has been my favorite exotic since I got it, the sound is 👌🏼
I wonder what sort of DPS this thing could pump out on Templar inside of a Well of Radiance on an Actium War Rig Titan..
Thanks!
I am playing this weapon on my solar Warlock since the new season started.
Me running Sanguin Alchemy. Pop a rift in a slightly covered area and I cannot die, even against the more powerful enemies. My only nemesis is stasis. Stasis. Is so. Annoying. Keeping them at a distance though, I have no issue.
This weapons really shines on solar warlock. Endless resto 2 and rift make the self damage no big deal. Also with its high fire rate it's a super generating monster. I've been running this on warlords ruin and with phoenix protocol was able to drop well at 3 of the 4 torches on second boss. This thing just shreds everything.
Been doing this since season of defiance
If Tommy’s ever gets a mag perk like subsistence or a partial reload after an ignition, it could definitely be more viable
Actium War Rig goes a long way with it. Of course you’re then trading your potential sustain exotic but you can substitute that with a healing grenade and then just keep the restoration effects up with the fragment that refreshes on solar kills.
I used this weapon to finish an auto rifle bounty yesterday. Then I put it back in my vault and went back to sunshot
I was waiting for a precious scars review because this thing is soooooo useful
Precious Scars + ember of benevolence + sol invictus = insane ability uptime
Been running this build since the season started
