  • The North is great for tourists whereas the South offers a better quality of life for those who want to live here and experience more of the essence this beautiful country has to offer.

there are areas in the north same as you describe just need get out of tourist areas. I lived in Jaco for 12 years and just recently move to Poas. I am 20 minute to the airport and the city Alajuela where there are both local and american influenced stores. The mountain pueblo where I live is half the cost of living as was Jaco. It is cooler so I do not need air conditioning to be comfortable. It's not that the southern area is bettor or worse. I wouldn't want to live in the south where is rains more. It rains enough here.

I’m in Costa Rica now and my 1st stop was to check out a lot in Tambor beach in the Nicoya area you were in. After I went to San Isidro where I really like that area and as of now I’m in Atenas ,but ret urning to to the south h for the reasons you mentioned.

We are traveling to Costa Rica in November. We are staying in Savegre de Aquirre. Looking for real estate . I have visited before. All in the north. I want to explore the southern region and possibly purchase a home

Rains vary a lot by microclimate so be careful in choosing the right area

Hi Julie, it was my first time in CR this Sept. I visited Nicoya Peninsula, especially loved Playa Hermosa- Santa Teresa and Nosara. I noticed, there're a lot of construction going on for permanent homes in both areas. I am planning to visit the southern part next Sept. like Ojochal, Dominical and Uvita.
How much more rain there's in the southern parts? also, do Ojochal, Dominical turn brown in the high season or always green? Thanks

The rain depends entirely on the area you are in. It’s all microclimates. More rain in the mountains. There is less rain where I am now (which I won’t specify) than when I was in Santa Teresa 🤷‍♀️
