  • Quick vid on converting a 1967 shock system into a fully functioning Hydraulic Trim and Tilty system. Trim and Tilt is a luxury. Who would not want this.... Now you can have it with the correct parts. Additionally, Disable the reverse lock mechanism since hydraulics do not require it.     Love those old motors. Just put the trim on mine. Not sure how well the old hoses hold up to kinks but we’ll see.

    So happy I found your channel! These videos are going to be a massive help. I am trying to track down the parts necessary to do this upgrade. I have scoured ebay and I can find the brackets, rams and hoses. I can't find a viable pump. Can you help me out?

    I have the exact same trim set up as in this video, but my problem is when the motor is raised all the way up you’ll get locked in the up position and will not lower. If I do not raise up it will go up and down all day long, what is this problem?

    have the same system already on my boat, but pump took a dump, is there a way to T the hydraulics and use a 2 line pump?

      I don't. Mercury changed a lot of part numbers and so did aftermarket vendors.

      @johnzimmerman7798 all dual trim ram systems will work. You just have to have the proper hardware to mount the rams. I have a video on how to convert btw. And thanks for the kind words my friend. Son

      I believe it's 10-40. I can't remember off the top of my head. The trim pump should specify what oil is needed. Son

    Great work i have the exact same tilt trim motor that i need to rebuild. Marine shop said it was bad so if they come back with an outrageous price i plan to rebuild in my own. Where can i get rebuild oarts? I cant find a model number to start sourcing the oarts out . Thanks in advance

    G'day Son, I have a mercury 1975 65 650 3, it is manual tilt and is very stiff and hard to tilt even if you lift the motor from the propeller; I don't see any lubrication point/grease nipple, it is pivoting between the engine and transom bracket and the pin does not rotate in the motor casting. what do you think is my problem/s? Thank you very much for your help and time

    Where do you put hydraulic fluid at on that type of pump, is it the silver big screw that’s on the pump? A friend of mine has that type of hydraulic trim pump with the selenoids on it

    Hey son, my double rams arent working when I tested them. I tried with the hoses not connecting to the the cylinders and i have the fluid spraying out of them. What should i look at on the cylinders please?

    Hey Son I got a question, Have you ever rebuilt or taken apart the valve body and gear assembly on this style of trim pump in your video? I bought a "new" old stock part number 392-7734 valve body and the gear that the pump motor spins won't spin by hand or with using a little force with pliers..thinking it may be a locked up assembly unless its supposed be like that I don't really know tbh.

      You can use any switch that transfers 12v to each corresponding up and down wire. Son

    I have a salvage power trim off an 1150 Mercury. If I add it to my 1973 1150, do I have to drill holes in the transom to mount the cylinders or is it enough to mount the cylinders to the motor? Thanks in advance

      I would drill at least the top holes through your transom. I hate drilling holes on boats but it's a necessary evil my friend. Son

      That would be an interesting video. All I did was remove the top and punching bag, then bolted the wood through the metal on the sides and middle of the everlast stand. Son

    hey son. i just bought some shock absorber off ebay but they dont feel like it has any pressure in them. it was easy to push down on them. are they like that or did they sell me a blown shock?

    I've got that same model tilt and trim pump but all the words are worn off can you help me with what fluid I need and how to refill it and purge all the air out. Also what tool would I need to take the cylinder apart and redo the seals

      I use 10-40. Most oils will work. As far disassembly I believe you need a spanner wrench. Son

    Hey merc I got this trim set up on a boat I just purchased and was curious on where the relief valve screw is on these. Would like to Be able to drop it or pick it up if anything failed

    Do you have any information on the wiring and what goes where percisly, i have an idential pump but its currently stuck fully extended

      I do.... by memory. If your outboard is stuck in the fully extended then the issue may not be with the pump but within the cylinders themselves. Wiring is pretty simple. Please verify it's not your trim rams or valve body. Thank you. Son

    Does it matter what hydronic line goes to the trim motor the two small and two slightly bigger lines

      Tilt motor up. Unscrew cap on the reservoir corner. Should be a flat head. It's the only screw on the corner. Fill, replace screw, then gently let down engine to fill the tilt rams. Son

      Depending on compression $800-$1000. Compression has to be there (140psi plus).

    So do you think you may post a video in near future on how to troubleshoot hydraulic trim? Mine when I trim motor up with the button on the throttle lever brings motor out past the engine bracket and it’s only supposed to be the trailer button that raises motor all the way out of bracket.?

    Where is the release valve on this unit? My trim is stuck in the up position and can't find the release screw. Or is it on the hydrologic motor? Thank you for all your videos.

      The trim cylinders could be jammed. Release valve is locked on the bottom of the trim pump. It's the ONLY knob. Son

      @@danielcaballero3130 the knob should be on the valve body beneath the reservoir. Sounds like yours are missing. Are you sure rams are not locked?

    What is the electrical wire coming off the starboard side cylinder ? I just got a boat and in process of getting it going but no idea what it is for since wire is broken

      I need you to be specific. There should be no wires coming off. All should be connected to the internal harness. Son

      I have a 1977 merc 1150 and on the right trim theres like a cover and has a wire coming out possibly trim limit switch but cant find anything or replacment unfortunately

    Merc Son I have to pick your brain. On my 85 50Hp four what is the 1/4 inch or so hole next to #1 spark plug and why do I have water coming out of it? I have a good stream out of the pisser. Does not look like there was ever a screw in there. But I see something like its a blind hole. Is it a check valve inside the head cover or something? Nothing in the Selocs manual on what it is

      I have not done one. It's done by trimming up/down several times then there's a alan screw top/bottom of the rams that you gently unscrew to let out the air. Son

      @@cavemanmicky there's a release valve on the bottom of the trim pump. Turn the knob all the way out. Son

      @@cavemanmicky sounds like you have a locked ram. You will need to find out which one by unscrewing the Hydraulic hoses. Son

      The hoses are 2 sizes. Line 2 hoses to trim ram and the other ends to the bottom of the pump. There are 4 separate connections on the bottom but they are separated into 2 each. Connect the 2 hose to the corresponding inlets. Repeat steps for second set of hoses. Son

    I have an 1985 Mercury 115 manual tilt. Will this work on it. I have access to a same model year 115 mercury with blown powerhead that has power tilt and trim and was told my powerhead would have to go on the power trim and tilt mid section. If all the power parts are in good shape can they easily go on my engine?

      Yea, it's really ambiguous when you get to the newer carbs. Seems like every kit fits but as different part numbers. Last 96 I worked on I looked at the carbs the gaskets and guessed.... I was correct thankfully. They need to make carb kits easier to understand but due to different manufacturers that's impossible because they all make up there own part numbers unfortunately.       Tilt engine in the up position. Fill reservoir. Gently let down the engine. Done.

      Specifically where does the big black ground wire from the battery connect to the pump? It was disconnected when I got it and I don't know where to attach it. Thank you!

    I just bought a 1989 Black max v6 mercury the decals say it's. A 175hp but the guy said its. A 150hp how can I find out what is the actual motor that I have. As I am new to it boards.

      Looked up the serial number. It should be located starboard side right beneath the powerhead. Son

    Got the same trim set up for 70-83. My problem is is will only trim for around 3 seconds before it quits. Felt them motor and it is extremely hot likes it struggling. Anyone know what's wrong? maybe the valve body?

      Tllt engine all the way up and check the reservoir. Should be full. Motor could be at fault as well. Son
