If I am only replacing the lines and not the trim ram, is the bleeding less comprehensive?? I was hoping that I literally could just crack the lines at the connection to the rams and get the air out of the lines that way.. Plz advise..
Hi again Michael, I have just removed the top hoses so both sides, but the leg, which I hoped would fall down, will not move. I have tried to manually lift up and push down but it seems to be locked. Can you help with a solution, please?
Hi Michael, I Firstly, your videos have been of great assistance to me, as I am a mechanical moron.😂 My question is. My Alpha1 Gen1 leg needs air bleeding. However, my leg is in the fully up (trailer posit 4:0, ion) cannot get it down so I can bleed the system. Can I bleed it as is? Or is there a way, other than using the trim switch up, then down, as I push down on the leg at the same time?
@@SteveHardy-w6w Thanks for watching, any update on your progress? Are you referring to the Trim Rams? If so, are the Rams stuck in the up position due to corrosion or rust buildup…?…or is the system very low on fluid and filled with air? As you attempt to trim outdrive up and down, do you hear the solenoids located on the pump motor engaging?
nice job!. when cycling up/down... wait a min between cycles. Air gets whipped into fluid/reservoir. Waiting a few gives air a chance to separate from oil.

Good morning , what if I only opened the system up inside the boat to replace the o rings on the bottom of the pump ( older style ) I had to remove the pump from the boat , do I drill need to bleed the system like this ? Rams and hoses should still be full of oil I would think ...... Thanks for your time
Hi Mike.. Why does my tilt up/down works perfectly but my trim will only work on the down and not up? Cant be solenoids if tilt up/down is working fine.. Also I hv cleaned the trim limiter connections so I am at a loss as tk what else tk do.. Thoughts?
@@TedDegenhart-f4c Thanks for watching, any update? Do you see any signs of damage to the wiring feeding into and out of the trim solenoids? It’s most common for the issue to be electrically as opposed to hydraulically. Any signs of damage to the trim sender or limit switches installed on outdrive?

I have a 2001 5.0 Mercruiser. My manual says I can use 10W30 or 10W40 engine oil for the trim pump. Far cheaper than the Mercruiser trim fluid.

Good morning ☕️ we have seen that in a few manuals as well over the years. That will be personal preference. 😁👍🧰

Can you drain all the fluid out by just taking those lines off and trimming up? Think my fluid needs replaced to not just topped off
Thanks for watching ☕️
You can however please please please don’t run it dry. You will need to replace pump motor and possibly other parts…not good.
