    Thanks! My dad installed a similar light about 3 years ago and it's been flickering really badly this summer. I was looking for a video to remind me of what steps he took, in case we need to replace it, and this was perfect. :)

      @@diypotentials So after watching your video last night, I decided to remove my existing ceiling light and discovered that it only has two wires (color coding is not super clear on these but I assume one is black (hot) and the other one white (neutral). However, what do I do with the ground wire attached to my new light? Do I just put some tape on it and leave it alone? The old light was also housed in some sort of large metal enclosure in the ceiling so I am also confused what to do there since I was expecting a normal junction box that I could screw the new light into.

    • @diypotentials
      @diypotentials  2 года назад

      @@sunnysingh786 Sounds like they didn't ground the old fixture.You can attach the ground wire the existing metal casing if you like or leave it out altogether. For the old junction box, I would try to find if their are existing screw holes that would align with the my new mounting plate. If you can't find them, you might have to drill new ones or replace the box with a modern one, depending on your situation. Check out my floodlight installation video. That might offer other ideas for mounting the fixture...Be careful and good luck!

  • @paulrobilotti9294
    @paulrobilotti9294 Год назад

    did you use the mounting screw that came with the light??? a lot of COSTCO reviews said they were 2 short, I used the ones that was holding the fixture that I took down that were a little longer and worked fine. Adding this, the one I put in the kitchen I used the screws that came with the light and they worked fine in mounting the light.

    • @diypotentials
      @diypotentials  2 года назад +1

      Can’t tell you how long they will last, but no problem at all since I have them a year ago. I replaced all my ceiling fixtures with these LED ones-they are bright and energy efficient. Once they go out, you replace them with new ones. I don’t anticipate these will go out the next couple of years, if they do, there are more of them in the market. Thanks!

    I just bought the same light. I am trying to replace a 2 bulb light fixture. I assume I need to cutoff one set of wires. The problem is the current fixture black wires are connected to yellow. And the blacks wires covered White to white as expected. Does that mean the yellow is live also? There is no ground I believe.

    • @diypotentials

      Hello, for safety purposes I cannot give you advice. It sounds like the previous installer treated the yellow wire as a black wire and the 2 bulb light fixture worked in the past…be careful. Thanks!

    So I installed a smaller LED lamp which required pretty much the same steps you did but now it turns off on its own every few minutes, it turns back on on its own for a while and then back off... For a moment I thought it had motion sensor but that doesn't seem to be the case... Could it simply be busted?

    • @diypotentials
      @diypotentials  2 года назад

      Hello, I’m not sure if the van runs on 120V AC. It might be running on 12V DC. That might be why it is super dim.

  • @jimmyngo649
    @jimmyngo649 3 года назад

    I bought a dimmable led ceiling light. On the light, there is 3 wires(bronze, white, black). Should I connect them all COLOR to COLOR ?
    On the ceiling, there is Green/yellow wire with a tiny round connector at the end of the wire, bronze wire, 2 White wires connected connected together, 2 black wires connected together, 1 red wire.
    what I have done is : connect white to white, black to black, leave the bronze wire freely, hook up the green/yellow from the ceiling to the light pannel with a mini screw driver.
    i'm able to turn on/off with the remote and all features work. However, the switch on/off on the wall is useless, it has no effect. So in order words, I MUST use remote to turn on/off the light.
    any help please? Thanks

    • @diypotentials
      @diypotentials  3 года назад

      Hey Jimmy,
      Thanks for asking. I’m not familiar with your electrical set up to give advice. I'm not sure why the ceiling has 2 black and 2 white wires coming of one single switch. It sounds like these wires are connected to another load. The light being always on sounds like the black line is not connected to the switch or if connected to the switch, the black line from the circuit breaker and the black line from the switch to the LED light fixture are touching even if you turn the switch off. You might want to get it checked out. Also, the one single red wire on the ceiling is also a live wire. If that wire is connected to the switch, that might work. In that case, I would connect the black wire of the LED to the red wire instead. Please be careful. This is only my opinion. Good luck.

    • @jimmyngo649
