    This is the number one best e bike kit installation video I have watched. I have installed 500W's-3000W kits and have not found a video on RUclips yet, that explains the battery connections, because to many people the battery connection is the most confusing part for the entire installation . Great job man.......

      I had to grind the forks a bit to get this kit on the trek. It is a great kit. It has been kicking butt at about 30mph to 35mph and makes the front tire peel out. Way good for the price and so the kit was about $225, bike was free with another bike that I sold, and then about $250 for the battery. I also upgraded to kool stop brakes and I love them. With the type of battery you have (Hailong), you could have a controller hidden in the battery cradle with the control cables coming out of the it instead of just a battery connector. This eliminates the cabling between the battery and motor, and reduces clutter on your bike. The downside is that the controller is slightly less powerful than what you have (22A vs 30A).

    Don't rely on the bottle holder bolts, the weight of a battery is too much for them. Either get a base plate with hose clamps to make sure the battery can't come out in an accident etc or do what I did, get a triangular battery that hangs in the frame by straps.

    If you are planning to upgrade to a DUAL MOTOR, best set up is to use a Gear motor as the base and a Gearless motor to use as a turbo Booster ( 1500 to 2000watt ) . This set up provides build very practical of using gear motor within residential speed zones and using turbo Booster when on blvds or straightaway streets on long distance trips of a 5 to 10 mile or longer. Gearless motors only go so far on full throttle of a 3 to 5 mile range before the motor cuts off to cool down a few minutes. Using a Gear motor will decrease overall torque output( saves battery and not overheating motors) When on turbo Booster , you can have the gear motor on cruise control as regenerating battery power kicks in ( only batteries or factory e bikes that do this). The weight of this set up is ideal besides performance that is equal or more vs the 3000$ and higher e bikes.

      @@diypotentials Thanks, I had been looking for a donor bike to convert, but have an old Cannondale mtb with rim brakes. I could stand to rebuild the brakes on that either way.

    How much harder is it to pedal an custom ebike on your own, like this one, than your bicycle before the conversion?

    • @jjmmjj9999
      @jjmmjj9999 Год назад +1

      the entire kit probably weighs 4/5kg, so slightly harder but not a massive amount.
      If anything, it's easier because the motor *assists* your legs when pedalling

    • @tr1707
      @tr1707 Год назад

      @@jjmmjj9999 Yes, I know there's added weight. But, I was wondering if the rear hub motor, itself, creates resistance for the rider. For example, I know someone that got a mid-drive eBike, and pedalling it with the motor off, it is like pedaling an elliptical machine at the gym, that someone set to level 10.
      I ask, because I plan on using the motor on my eBike, only when I'm tired. The plan is to pedal the majority of the time.

      @@tr1707 my ebike (not this kit, it's a prebuilt one) does seem quite hard to pedal, and the idea of resistance due to the motor crossed my mind but i've put it down to the fact i'm quite large (115kg) and the bike itself is 25kg rather than the motor adding resistance

    What happens when the rims wear when using v breaks, , how do you change the motor to a new wheel?

    • @speedsterh
      @speedsterh 3 месяца назад

      You need to have your motor laced to a new rim (can be done by a professionnal if you don't know how to do this). That's the downside of using rim-based brakes.
