  • First time taking the DR650 around town with a GoPro and working microphone. Still learning the ropes of motovlogging while enjoying my favorite bike. I demonstrate the stock suspension and tires over a few obstacles and do a bit of in town and highway riding… I also throw in my dirt road shortcut at the end.

    I agree with your take on Dual Sport vs ADV bikes. I ride the Honda XR650L, the big thumper is great for around town and in traffic. Sorry to hear all the land in Mississippi is privately owned. Here in Nevada, we have an abundance of public and federal lands to ride on. The trails can be rough, but the destinations are awesome. Nice bike thanks for sharing.

      I dream of the day I can get on some terrain like Nevada. Thanks for watching!

      Texas is land locked as well.
      Had a bunch of people from Nevada come down and they brought their turbo Razr and their dirt bikes and I felt bad for them cuz there's nothing here like what they're used to. I said it's just fence to fence here guys.

    Stock suspension can definitely handle the trails. How you ride the trail is what makes the difference. If you want to take rocks at high speed then yes, you're going to have to change suspension. Most average trail riders won't take things fast as the seasoned rider.

      I honestly like the stock suspension for how I use the bike. It floats over a lot of stuff in a way that’s really comfortable. I’m planning to try it on some trails in a nearby nat forest.

    Great review and tour! You are right regarding the smaller bikes, love my 250L but after a couple years on it I am ready for a bit more power. Been considering this or the XR650L.

      I don’t think you could go wrong with either one. My buddy has an XR650 and loves it. The extra torque on the bigger bikes is a nice luxury in traffic!

      Thanks. Dude, that’d be the king of SuMo’s! Warp 9 makes the gear you’d need. Delete the EVAP and PAIR system if you buy new. Also, an after market muffler (DG) -12 lbs… there’s other ways to cut weight as well, plastic tank (low filled).

      The only bad drivers here are younger cell phone users and slow left lane drivers. Most people definitely reflect the hospitality state though! 🍻

    You mentioned the Africa Twin being 500 LB and too heavy to be an "adventure" bike. I'll second you on weight issues with big adventure bikes...they aren't for adventuring! Having purchased a BWM R1200GS Adventure in 2013 (685 LB), I barely made it around White Rim in Canyonlands Nat'l Park in Utah. The ride from Kansas City to Utah was comfortable, but getting that thing all the way around the trail was almost impossible. I purchased a DR650 earlier this year, and that weighs almost nothing in comparison; I love it.

    • @ComfyDadShoes
      @ComfyDadShoes  Год назад +2

      I definitely tricked myself into buying the big ADV for sure. I think a lot of the advertising is unrealistic for what the common rider will do. The DR hits that perfect sweet spot for me IRL.

    Great video Mickey Rando YT. Yeah I'm thinking hard and very much stuck to which bike to pick. Dr650 or the Klx300, but you just motivated me to go with the 650. I so mostly city commuting, but let me know what your thoughts are, thanks buddy, i'd appreciate it.

    • @ComfyDadShoes
      @ComfyDadShoes  Год назад +1

      Some of the big deciding factors for me were in the aftermarket, but mostly the fact that, for my size, the 650 engine makes a very noticeable difference. Overtaking traffic is a breeze on the DR, and there are plenty of used ones with many addons already done. I owned a tw200 before the DR and I felt very vulnerable, at my size, keeping up in traffic. I can keep up with larger bikes on the street, carry a passenger fairly easily, and still go on small trails. It just covered more bases for me than the klx could. I also haven't had any carb issues on my bike. 2/3 of my bikes are carbs. hope that helps!

    I’d recommend trying the 1200gs it’s not top heavy like you are assuming. I find leaning it is as easy as my versys x300. The engine configuration brings the CG down significantly.

      I’m actually looking into taking a trip with my wife to a place in TX that does ADV training. The 1200 is available too! I think my wife is going to try the 310. I e always heard that about the gs. It’d be cool to experience it.

      I feel like the longevity and versatility makes it nearly impossible to sell. I’ll definitely pair it with other bikes, but in all likelihood, I’ll keep it long enough to give to my kids.

    Hi, I ride a 1994 DR650 as my daily commute to work and ride the tracks on the weekends. Top bike, love the carbie version, never had a problem with it in all my years of owning it. Question though, why do Americans call it a dual sport...here in Australia it's called an enduro bike...

    • @ComfyDadShoes
      @ComfyDadShoes  Год назад +2

      That’s an excellent question because growing up, I always called bikes like the DR650, xr650l enduro bikes. My guess is that it might have something to do with marketing. In my eyes, they’ll always be an enduro. Most guys that rode in the early 90’s, or earlier, still use the term. I’ve had to train myself into saying dual sport hehe!

    • @randymcgiveron3268
      @randymcgiveron3268 Год назад +3

      I've always thought the dual sport as being a street legal off-road bike. An enduro bike was well used in enduros and off the road racing.

    • @Hawkeye1off1
      @Hawkeye1off1 Год назад

      @@randymcgiveron3268 No, I did some checking up on this. Dual sport is just advertising term, proper name is Adventure bike. Enduro came from the early Dakar rally days, thus this model is a Dakar Rally 650 bike, hence the name Enduro bike, nothing to do with sport, road or off-road.

You’ll see the GoPro set a bit lower in future videos bc I want to show more of the controls while riding as well. Thank you very much for watching!!! 🍻

      I'm looking at the DR right now. The only thing is I'm 6'2", 280lbs. I'll need a suspension upgrade for it. going to use it to scout firewood areas and possibly daily it. in the long run, I'd like to do some of the BDR trails.

    • @ComfyDadShoes
      @ComfyDadShoes  Год назад +2

      @@eriksiegler5832 I can tell you that if you add in my rack and trunk, the bikes pushing around 260lbs (me @235). If you go to the procycle website, you can get a set of .70kg front springs and a 9.6 rear shock spring and that should be perfect for how you’re using the bike. I would describe the power and nice and torquey. Not too much l, but a perfectly sufficient amount to do everything you want to do.
