As someone who has been playing this game since late2016-2017, these videos are a nostalgia trip and a half for both the game and that time in my life. Amazing video Veritas!
I started playing in January of 2017. This was even before the NDA was lifted for the EOD players. What I miss the most from that time is that it didn't really matter what kind gun of you used. Armor was rare so 2-3 hits to the chest was all you ever needed to kill someone. This made every gun and every kind of ammo viable, unlike now where a large part of the arsenal is pretty much useless. Especially if the type of gun you want to use doesn't offer a round with super high damage or penetration.
I know, right! I hope this to change when the modular armor come, i mean, things like Tagila Rig will become kinda useless, because is a single "Small" plate at the front of the chest, so if you get hit on the back or side, you will get the 100% of the bullet damage, THIS will make most bullets of any caliber viable again, prices for Armor and AP rounds will come down as well. Only time will say.
Man, I've been with Tarkov since pre-NDA and thought it might not be in a great spot right now, I love this game. watching the pure distance this game has come since I first laid eyes on it. It's an amazing game. It's interesting how I easy it is to mix up the timeline, I honestly forgot how far back blind firing was added. I understand why the community has become so toxic (Though it's not acceptable). Everyone feels like it's their baby, it's been an extremely close game to many people's hearts and like any relationship, there are rough patches but I don't think the people who have been truly invested in Tarkov will never be able to forget it, even if they don't play it for a long time. We love Tarkov. I hope everyone watching this who's seeing Tarkov in an overly negative light right now can see how far the game has come and all the changes, it might not be in an amazing state for you right now, just take a break for a bit. Come back later. Don't keep burning out your mental energy and stressing yourself out over it. There are so many new people coming into Tarkov and slowly crouching through dorms for the very first time scared shitless. Let them enjoy it. Come back after a break, and fall in love with Tarkov all over.
It's one of my all time favorites. I kept up with it for a little while through early development, forgot about it for years, then in November 2019, I had finally got a PC and bought EOD. 1000+ hours later and it just stays so unique. One of the only games I have over 1000 hours in. Alongside Hunt: Showdown, various Halo titles, BF4, and maybe a couple others. Hunt and Tarkov are two of the shooters I've just never been able to stay away from. I bounce between the two daily until I take a break for a month or two, but inevitably come back.

Managed to get him with my starter 74u and he had relatively nice M4. I tried to extract but it turned to night and I had no idea where I was going. Eventually ran into Scav house and died.
Great video man. The interviews, the clips, everything was great. I wish I knew about the game back then. I came right when flea market and hideout came along with a lot of other people. Even then the game was different. Amazing how far it has come and only thing I noticed about old gameplay is TTK. I have been playing a lot of Hunt recently and the gun fights are awesome. Strategic, repositioning, get caught and your dead. I really enjoy this play style and I know it will come back to EFT. I really enjoy this series and look forward to the videos to come. As always man THANK YOU for your hard work. It really shows in these videos.
This is great to see this history! Started playing in Dec 2019 so the nostalgia for the 'old tarkov' doesn't really hit me, but it's so cool to see how far it's come! Lots of changes but wow, they've kept the game moving forward - maybe not to everyone's tastes, but it's at least maturing, and being added to constantly. Coming from PUBG, this is so refreshing!
You perfectly summed up my feelings for the allure of old Tarkov. It was new, unknown, and mysterious. No guides or resources. I wanted to learn, see, and experience everything.
I'm so happy I joined the party in early 2017. Only watched the game before that. But yeah the intensity and scarcity of loot and the hype when you survived and got "good gear" that was crazy. I really miss the days when it was a lot harder to hit anything and still have time to kill short, but having it hard to hit meant longer fights and more suppressed shooting. felt like the raid series
Tarkov is my favorite fps I've ever played. I love seeing how it's changed over the years! Kleans comment about this being the fps he dreamed of, same here.
This series is so good already, I can't wait for the next episodes!! I love the inclusions of all the OG's, as it really gives us all a better perspective on the growth and struggles of EFT. Keep up the fantastic work, V!
Loving this series. A real history lesson for us newbies. I gave this video the respect it deserved, lay on my sofa, headphones and iPad. Complete immersion. As a developer, I see now just how much this game has evolved, as well as how much there is still to do. Thanks for bringing this to us.
If I ever need to show someone how their entry to EFT will realistically be then I'll just let them watch from 29:03 to 30:25. And still completely recommend it...
I not only love seeing the progress the game has made but also how far the people around it have come. The day Tarkov releases I will sit down and watch this series with my tarky friends and tell all the stories we experienced on the journey to 1.0. Thanks for preserving Tarkovs history with these awesome videos
[Regarding the final thoughts about the tarkov community being a lot more respectful and exciting a place to be in] One very important thing to always remember is that whenever theres a small project, theres more immediacy between the developer, the fellow players and you. The more a project grows, the more people flow in and so that sense of being a tight knit community gets lost due to simply not being able to keep ties with one another, but also because theres no need to do so. Some people bought into the idea, and some bought into the game, as in they didnt really care about that "dream tarkov vision", but more about "hey its a cool game like BF or PUBG, lets play it". I certainly celebrate the achievements (and i consider them achievements) that BSG has made up to now, but i certainly see the appeal of the old tarkov. Taking all of that into account however, and thinking back to all the things BSG/Nikita has said about their vision, i feel confident that all of these systems will come back in a much more refined form, and the game will benefit a lot from it. All in all, i cherish the moments tarkov gave me, and i dont think itll stop anytime soon.
As someone who started playing in 2019 I am really digging having a look back at everything that has led up to this point. I know a lot of people are disheartened with the current state of the game but I really appreciate all the work that you have done Veritas. And am very hopeful for the future of Tarkov, as someone who has played the COD's and Battlefields for years I find Tarkov to be a breath of fresh air from the current over done AAA titles. Even though it is far from perfect. I hope you and Jesse continue with the podcast as I thoroughly enjoy hearing both of your perspectives and I feel you two have a positive input into the community.
as a current tarkov player and only starting just over a year ago.. im really enjoying this, seeing how this game started. veritas you're amazing man! looking forward to part 3 of this.
man, my only complain with your videos is that they're not loud enough which means i need to set my volume to 100 to hear what you say clearly, other than that great work! i discovered tarkov by watching kotton's stream back in 2017 but what got me into it was your labs raid with thicc case, no voice over and hk416. it was very immersive and showed off the basics of the game very well.
I remember my first raid on my birthday in October 2017. After a month of learning the game, in November i went straight back to the website and bought EOD. Its been so great watching this game grow and change over the years, and no matter how much things change I always see myself coming back.
Been really enjoying this. I started playing Feb 2018 and its been really cool to see tarkov before I played. Im sure my friends are tired of hearing me being an old man crying for the days of Tarkovs past but they truly were the golden days. Getting back in to the game is nuts in comparison to how it used to be.
When Klean was talking about coming over to and Discovering Tarkov and it being all he played once he did because it was almost like Metro and a mil-sim combined is exactly what draws me into this game.. Tarkov is literally an FPS actually built by FPS fans with inclusivity for Survival and Gun nut fans its so amazing
As a new comer to tarkov (this is only my third wipe so I guess a year and a half old) and I'm so excited to watch this whole series. Great idea for a line of videos and thank you so very much for the entertainment
Incredible video series again! I feel this may surpass your getting tarkov’d series for me which I didn’t expect. Cheers for making my train trips feel so much shorter with the in depth videos.
This is amazing! I saw this game get streamed at launch but didn't get a pc until last December and finally picked up the game. Even though I've had tons of fun watching, playing, and learning the game. I can't help but feel I already missed out on the golden era, yet still look forward to seeing how these next changes will impact the game...maybe a new "silver era"?🤣 Phenomenal work though Veritas, yet again your video creation is immaculate!
24th of November 2017, my first raid, and man am I glad I took that plunge! Miss those times, but it's insane how far this game has come. Hope for many more years to come!
As usual another home-run! Some dude said in comments that everyone playing Tarkov should watch this video, I'd go a step further and say everyone should watch this video. And the one prior to it. It's a piece of gaming history; beautifully laid out and explained. I laughed so hard when the MEMEBSS was given to Klean! 10/10
I didn't start playing until Feb of 2020. This was such an awesome look at the history of Tarkov, I feel like every noobie to the game should see it to appreciate how much it has really changed.
Only 17 mins in and I’m loving the interviews with Klean and WillerZ. Very well done so far. Looking forward to the rest. Edit: Awesome job on part 2. Really looking forward to the next one. Didn’t want this one to end.
10 out of 10. Thanks for everything you do. Some days I do miss the way the game felt back then. (seeing Kotton was a HUGE throwback. One of the few streamers I've actually ran into in raid playing the game) I was just talking to some guys about the old pt 6. Heres to looking forward to the future of the game.
I bought the game oct '17 played a few raids and didn't go back for like a year, this is the first time I've seen the memebss lol. Even though you mention the p2w backpack in your tarkov cover song! Thanks for another incredible and informative video Veritas!
I was a fan of the 1979 Tarkovsky film titled Stalker, and the games from the series of the same name and Metro both got my interest when I first heard of them. Then when I had been playing pubg with friends for a while and I first heard of Tarkov, it instantly had my full attention. My first raid was in a pitch-black night raid with a pistol where I didn't get out of the Big Red area in customs, despite spending the full raid timer fumbling around in the dark there. Was hooked immediately. Shout out to the timers on the Punisher tasks, those were very very rewarding if/when you finally got them down. Planning out the block of time to do it felt like setting up for a raid in wow, but as a solo player so way way better.
Finally getting around to this and I wish I had watched it sooner. Love this content, didn’t know the memebss was a real thing coming In around .10 pure gold.
I can really see the differences in movements in early EFT vs the version we have now. I'm looking forward to your next videos about inertia and the next part of history! Love your work, Veritas. Keep it up, bro!
The funniest part is it’s the same movement system, I played the game since then. Players back then just didn’t know what we know now. I wish it was still that way
I currently do play Tarkov slow and immersive with my buddies. We go sweep the map from each location we need to go to on the map for tasks. Once we finish that we head for extract or continue to loot at other locations while protecting those with tasks. It’s really fun.
Thank you for doing this. I only just built my gaming pc when Covid hit. I didn’t start playing Tarkov in late June. Really seeing some of this stuff for the first time tbh. Can’t wait for pt. 3!
I join the game as gift from a friend in november 2020. Felt in love with the game. At the current wipe i enjoyed alot the 1-20 levels of the game. NO FLEA
Another masterpiece! Can't wait for the next one! Also absolutely crazy seeing the difference between streamers/streams then vs now. And seeing where these guys that are now some of the top streamer-creators started (or started EFT). It's like a weird, relateable hope, for those of us that aspire to be
My first woods night road was hilarious looking back. I spent 40 minutes slowly moving through a small section of the map scared shitless. Eventually made it to the swamp up north and killed a few scavs but then died on the way to extract because I had no food.
wow forgot how annoying meds during fights were the nostalgia is crazy and i only started in 2017 game is so different now even looking at the high ready makes me miss it because i never played much back then since i had an abusive LoL relationship. the old gameplay just looks really grounded and tight now its fast and loose great vid glhf veritas also hope we can come full circle back to the gritty nature of early tarkov fights. sidenote i cant remember but i feel like sound whoring is a lot worse than it used to be and i dont know how it got worse
What really struck out to me is the way the character holds the AK at 6:58 just looks and feels much more immersive than currently. I was playing the game at the time but I couldn't remember our character holding AKs that way. I've no idea when that changed to the way our character is currently holding a weapon ... But I'd like to have the old one back.
Good stuff. I remember watching streams of Tarkov around that 0.4 patch and finally buying it and playing Dec 2017. Definitely miss the more slower pace nature of it back then, at least that's how I remembered it being... and being poor all the time. The days when getting a Fort and MTs out of raid was cause for celebration.
i wish i would've had the ability to experience tarkov in the early stages. My first raid was like 3 days after wipe to 12.9 and even now the game feels different. Seeing all this alpha and early beta gameplay really makes me think i wouldn't have played any other games had i owned a PC. Looking forward to seeing your later videos. I do love how this game scares everyone starting out.
Great fucking video man. I can't wait for 2019 when I joined. I originally saw Tarkov being playing by Node but I had a feeling my dumpster of a pre-built PC would not handle it. Once I got my rig I have today, it was the first game I bought the morning after I put everything together. Within my first year I put 2,000 hours into Tarkov. I played every single day. I remember I even made a video rant about ReShade and my own opinion doesn't even hold up anymore. Great video Veritas. Thanks for helping me get into Tarkov.
I really like this series. Keep it up. I have an idea you may want to pursue. A lot of current Tarkov players have no idea how the maps and game play has changed. Not many, to include me, have seen the old shoreline map and understand the changes. Same with the customs multiple expansions. The woods expansion has been covered but you may want to memorialize. Also - looking at an old Cotton video - did everyone use to start on the same side of customs and all move together in same direction? Or has it always been crossing movement?
I think the OP-SKS was in the game prior to when you listed it as active, but it could only spawn on sniper scavs and was subsequently very rare. One of the biggest things I remember was that you didn't spawn together as a squad, so it was a scramble to figure out where your friends were when you loaded into the maps.
This was so nostalgic for me. I owned the game in 2016, played like 3 matches and thought i was done with it for good. But then FrankieOnPCin1080p made a tarkov video january of 2017 and it got me back in. Man i have such fond memories of that year. I remember patch .5 everyone was freaking out about the reaper hahaha. We thought it would be the end of the world for the game. The biggest argument and struggle we had back in those days was the hatchet running plague hahaha. God how funny it is to think that was a problem once.
I remember the awesomness of 0.10.5 optimization patch. There were some freezes left up until 0.12.0 still, but that patch made the game feel sooo much more alive, so much more engaging. To be honest, I, at that time, believed there were no solution to that, I really thought BSG is not going to get rid of these freezes forever, and I did feel EFT was simply another early acsess trash, with lots of fancy stuff to get you in, but without technical progress being done. Current state speaks loudly well for itself, no need mentioning how much I was wrong. Hope Veritas would find a way to show at least a bit of what BSG has acomplished in that regard, with cut features ofcourse (inverse kinematics, how scopes worked, flashlights, etc.) And there is still too much for them to handle, but compared to before - feels like nothing. SoT and Open world aside :)
Holy shit the 10.5 patch was a godsend. I remember playing through my first raid of that patch and nearly crying from how much it had improved stutters.
Did you notice anything about the old gameplay that stuck out to you as noteworthy/different?
made me feel cheated we no longer have the memebss :( when the homies ask you to bring them a backpack it would be hilarious.
Longer fights, which I think is very important in a game when death means loss of gear.

Strategic, repositioning, get caught and your dead. I really enjoy this play style and I know it will come back to EFT. I really enjoy this series and look forward to the videos to come. As always man THANK YOU for your hard work. It really shows in these videos.
Absolutely incredible, amazing and big thanks to everyone who agreed to take the time and be a feature.
I so appreciate you letting me watch this a few days ago on stream .
Fantastic series continues! That "I was just looking at the map" line always cracks me up!
I get sad when these end because there is no content like it. I will wait patiently for the next installment.
Tarkov is my favorite fps I've ever played. I love seeing how it's changed over the years! Kleans comment about this being the fps he dreamed of, same here.
Another great video! I can't believe I only came into the game at the end of the second part to this. So much history to cover.
One of the best creators on the tube and an absolute asset to the community. Thanks Veritas!
This content is truly amazing. Great work
This series is so good already, I can't wait for the next episodes!! I love the inclusions of all the OG's, as it really gives us all a better perspective on the growth and struggles of EFT. Keep up the fantastic work, V!
The Tarkumentary continues! Fantastic job on the editing!
Lmfao "With the magic of RUclips!" *snaps* STRAIGHT TO AN AD hahaha
[Regarding the final thoughts about the tarkov community being a lot more respectful and exciting a place to be in]
One very important thing to always remember is that whenever theres a small project, theres more immediacy between the developer, the fellow players and you.
I hope you and Jesse continue with the podcast as I thoroughly enjoy hearing both of your perspectives and I feel you two have a positive input into the community.
as a current tarkov player and only starting just over a year ago.. im really enjoying this, seeing how this game started. veritas you're amazing man! looking forward to part 3 of this.
i wanted to go back and watch old deadly and kotton and relive the old days of tarkov and you’ve captured it perfectly
Oh man, I had no idea how far this game has come. I hope we can start going back to the old days and this game can start to be more like it used to be
man, my only complain with your videos is that they're not loud enough which means i need to set my volume to 100 to hear what you say clearly, other than that great work! i discovered tarkov by watching kotton's stream back in 2017 but what got me into it was your labs raid with thicc case, no voice over and hk416. it was very immersive and showed off the basics of the game very well.
Tarkov is literally an FPS actually built by FPS fans with inclusivity for Survival and Gun nut fans
its so amazing
As a new comer to tarkov (this is only my third wipe so I guess a year and a half old) and I'm so excited to watch this whole series. Great idea for a line of videos and thank you so very much for the entertainment
Another amazing long form V, I love when you get in this space so good 👍
Incredible video series again! I feel this may surpass your getting tarkov’d series for me which I didn’t expect. Cheers for making my train trips feel so much shorter with the in depth videos.
man these videos are so great, it still baffles me how far this game has come and it gets me excited thinking where it will go from here
Thank you, the community needs this perspective now more than ever.
Woo, thanks. This is shaping up to be one of my favorite video series in this channel. It's fascinating looking back.
Seeing early Veritas kinda made me grin and chuckle a little. Makes me feel better seeing someone like you look so damn lost and confuzzled at times.
This is amazing! I saw this game get streamed at launch but didn't get a pc until last December and finally picked up the game. Even though I've had tons of fun watching, playing, and learning the game. I can't help but feel I already missed out on the golden era, yet still look forward to seeing how these next changes will impact the game...maybe a new "silver era"?🤣
Phenomenal work though Veritas, yet again your video creation is immaculate!
These videos are amazing. I love your detailed videos. Thank you
24th of November 2017, my first raid, and man am I glad I took that plunge!
Man that opening sequence gave me all the feels
Only 17 mins in and I’m loving the interviews with Klean and WillerZ. Very well done so far. Looking forward to the rest.
Edit: Awesome job on part 2. Really looking forward to the next one. Didn’t want this one to end.
Omg Dan with just the knife at 19:06. That whole encounter is god damn gold. Almost pissed myself. Crying from laughing so hard. Holy hell.
Such an amazing job taking us down memory lane! Can’t wait for next episode!
Absolutely amazing video thanks and I'm going to become a patreon member
Yo this is the same time I started the game too just like you and I can feel every emotion you have in those clips
Veritas out here just making banger content one after another. An OG and a legend in the Tarkov community
I started playing Tarkov back in early 2018, and I have stuck with it since. I am glad to see how it was before, and witness its trek to the present.
Lets goooo Part 2!
Thanks for making this and documenting the evolution of this amazing game! I really wish I could've experienced this old version of Tarkov.
This being my first wipe, this video was breath taking to see how far the game is from what it was.
This history videos are beautiful. Great work!
Another banger of a video, keep it up and thank you for doing it.
Every time I see the old PK-06 it brings a tear to my eye
Loving this series. I am in awe of your dedication and editing. Thank you for all that you do.
And another one out of the park, my Guy!! Bravo.
I wish it was still that way
These are so cool. I love seeing how far the game has come and hear first hand from the earlier players.
I currently do play Tarkov slow and immersive with my buddies. We go sweep the map from each location we need to go to on the map for tasks. Once we finish that we head for extract or continue to loot at other locations while protecting those with tasks. It’s really fun.
Absolutely well done. Can't wait for the next one :)
Been driving across state for work just listening to these videos and I love it can’t wait to get home and clock in idc what my wife says 😂😂😂😂😂
That indirect lighting when you used the flashlight.
Some graphics look so much better back than, some dont
Thank you for doing this. I only just built my gaming pc when Covid hit. I didn’t start playing Tarkov in late June. Really seeing some of this stuff for the first time tbh. Can’t wait for pt. 3!
I join the game as gift from a friend in november 2020. Felt in love with the game. At the current wipe i enjoyed alot the 1-20 levels of the game. NO FLEA
Great video. I'm sure this took a lot of time. Thank you for making it for me to enjoy! Keep up the amazing work!
Ive been waiting for Part 2 for a week now and i cant wait
Fantastic series, looking forward to the next episode :)
Such quality work yet again, keep it up veritas
I'm happy I got to play this game from the beginning. It's interesting seeing how far this game has come.
Eventually made it to the swamp up north and killed a few scavs but then died on the way to extract because I had no food.
wow forgot how annoying meds during fights were the nostalgia is crazy and i only started in 2017 game is so different now even looking at the high ready makes me miss it because i never played much back then since i had an abusive LoL relationship. the old gameplay just looks really grounded and tight now its fast and loose
great vid glhf veritas
also hope we can come full circle back to the gritty nature of early tarkov fights. sidenote i cant remember but i feel like sound whoring is a lot worse than it used to be and i dont know how it got worse
One of the biggest things I remember was that you didn't spawn together as a squad, so it was a scramble to figure out where your friends were when you loaded into the maps.
so good dude i know how much time that goes into making and editing this and you deserve massive views on this so good i shared it on some eft pages
Hope Veritas would find a way to show at least a bit of what BSG has acomplished in that regard, with cut features ofcourse (inverse kinematics, how scopes worked, flashlights, etc.)
And there is still too much for them to handle, but compared to before - feels like nothing. SoT and Open world aside :)
Holy shit the 10.5 patch was a godsend. I remember playing through my first raid of that patch and nearly crying from how much it had improved stutters.
