For me it's always sort of a gamble wether the yolk stays soft or goes solid by the time my whites are finished, turns out I use too much heat.
I'm not a big cook, just a dude living alone cooking for himself. So I mostly just use maximum heat when possible without burning to get stuff done faster but it seems that was the exact problem here. I'll try frying my eggs on medium heat from now.

I like over medium, whites NOT runny, yolk a little runny but mostly not. Wylers Chicken Bullion powder instead of salt, LOTS of black pepper.

every time i do this i feel like it’s not cooked enough around the yolk even when the bottom ends up burned the parts around the yolk are still clear
You can put a lid to steam the egg, which will cook the top
Is there supposed to be some clear egg whites near the yolk, because that part wouldn't cook for me

Are you using a non stick pan?
Also do you use so much oil? And do you also cook on high heat?
Use a non stick pan with few drops of oil and fry on low heat. Then come back and thank me later 🤗
