    For years, I used a standard shop-vac that I bought at a big box hardware store for my shop work and general vacuuming needs in the garage and for projects. You may have seen my dust-separator cart video that I made for my Ridgid model. If not, here is the link: • Dust Cyclone Separator...
    For years, I wondered about upgrading my vacuum game to a professional dust "extractor" and boy am I glad I did! This is one of those tools, (like a track saw) that is just a game changer. After having it for a few months, I can honestly say that I should have bought this thing a long time ago. I love everything about it. My model is the Makita 12 Gallon Xtract Vac Wet/Dry Dust Extractor/Vacuum, number VC4710. This is my unboxing and review. Enjoy! Links below.. ↓↓↓↓

    Make a hollow saw dust extraction rake out of 5 ply plywood. Cut the corner of the bag one inch or two make a simple block clamp screw together to close it up now you have an empty import or slit the whole bag and sew a zipper in

    How has vac held up of the past 4 months?

  • @drukawski
    @drukawski 3 года назад +1

    There's a market for these things on construction sites to comply with OSHA requirements related to silica dust from stone/masonry cutting, and gypsum dusts from cutting/sanding drywall, but that's it. If you have a shop you are 100 times better off getting a harbor freight, jet, grizzly, etc. dust collector and upgrading to a pleated filter. Shop vacs are valuable because they are cheep and have higher suction. These portable dust extractors cost dust collection system prices but are still cheap plastic that'll break in a few years. The warranty on that thing is 3 years, they'll stop making parts for it in 5-10, and if it breaks you won't be welding it or buying a 3rd party fan, filter, etc.

    How did it compare to the Ridgid? Does it still use the cyclone? How well does it work at the Mitre saw?

    • @diywithandrew
      @diywithandrew  2 года назад

      I think it performs a lot better, being a professional dust extractor and not a shop vac. No I don’t use a dust separator as I use cloth bags inside this one. Works very well attached to my miter saw and track saw. I never run my saws without it

    I bought the same used on Craigslist and mine thumps every 15 seconds. Kind of annoying and also no matter what speed I put it on it goes to full speed right before it thumps. I assume that the thumping is its cleaning cycle but is that normal?

    • @diywithandrew
      @diywithandrew  3 года назад

      That’s awesome you found it used! Yes. Totally normal. That’s the automatic filter cleaning. Mine does the same thing!

  • @jhende7
    @jhende7 3 года назад

    Why don’t you keep a cyclone/bucket hooked up to your new one like you did with your previous ridgid? You’ll probably only have to empty your bag once a year.

    • @diywithandrew
      @diywithandrew  3 года назад

      Great question. This vacuum is a huge upgrade from the ridgid. Since I decided to invest in a pro grade vac and the fleece bag system, I am okay disposing the bags a few times a year, therefore I don't need the "dust separator" system on this one.

      Thank you! Glad it was helpful. Sorry to hear its gone MIA. I think due to Covid a lot of manufacturers have struggled to keep up. I found it on Acme Tools site, but it is paired with an angle grinder. Weird. Here is the link: www.acmetools.com/shop/tools/makita-vc4710x1-xtract-vacuum-angle-grinder-kit

    There are apps for your phone that measure decibels, if you're interested. Plus I tried to find this on line and used your link but currently shows "out of stock"using that link, but I'll save the link thanks. Good review. You should get Makita to sponsor your channel.

    Put the vacuum in a soundproof closet and use hard tubing around the shop send use a connector hose where you need it. Noises from vacuums are stupid

    Children have normal hearing. It clearly shows how much earing damage the father has. I suggest buying Central Vacuum and place it far away from the garage with pvc hook up. You can delay hearing aids in the future.

    I bought the Makita battery powered tracks system and cordless router and Im actually surprised at how under engineered they are for actually carpentry. The tolerances are a joke. Theres a reason why green and white cost so much. Based on my disappointment and inaccurate design ill skip on this!

      Sorry to hear about that experience. I own the Makita battery track saw, string trimmer and mower and have had no issues at all. I have no experience with their battery router.
