I just bought a janome hd9. What kind/brand of thread should I use in my machine? When should I use cotton vs. polyester? Is there a disadvantage to using polyester thread in all my projects (since it is stronger and less linty)? Thank you for the video!
The type of thread that you will want to use on your machine can vary depending on the type of project. A 40wt thread is going to work best, but in terms of composition you have some options. Polyester is a great thread for all purpose sewing. You can use it with garments, quilting, crafting, and home decor projects. It will have less lint than a cotton thread. A great thread to use for most of your sewing needs is Aerofil by Madeira. They come in a variety of sizes and colors, and you can even use the large spools on your machine. For quilting, some people prefer a cotton thread, but you can use either, and there is no disadvantage in using all polyester. Some people really like having the organic material in their thread to match their material, but it is really up to you. Because cotton is an organic material, it can become less durable over time. So, if this quilt will have heavy use, a polyester may be more suitable. Quilting threads can come in a 50wt or a 40wt. Madeira makes Aeroquilt thread, which is polyester, and they sell them in solids and also beautiful spools of variegated, which are 40wt. King Tut also makes a great quilting thread, and it is made of Egyptian Cotton, and is also a 40wt.
Hello quality sewing, What threads would you recommend for a Husqvarna Viking Emerald 118, Husqvarna Viking 21E, and a Singer class 15? I know the last two are vintage and antique, I mainly do repair work and generic sewing. Thanks, Jacky
Hello! I hope you can help me with this... I've just purchased a new sewing machine and they recommend using a high - quality thread to reduce the amount of "lint" which may come off in the machine. Since I'm wanting to do just general sewing/mending on my machine, I'm unsure which brand or type of thread I should use. I know the fabric you use determines the size/weight of your thread. But, do you have any suggestions as to which brand is best for your machine ? I also know it's impossible to keep the lint from your thread completely away from your machine. But, I would just like to know if there's a brand which has the least amount of lint to it. I appreciate your help and advice.
There are several great brands of thread to choose from such as Quilters Select, Maderia and King Tut. You can find all these brands and more on our site www.qualitysewing.com/sewing-accessories.html/thread.html
@@Kindlyone777 That is an industrial sewing machine and not a model we carry so we can't say for sure. Hopefully, your user manual would be able to instruct you on that.
@@QualitySewingWA I'm really not sure of the material. I picked up a pack of folded squares at the dollar tree that seem to be non-stretch cotton, but I'd like to sew canvas, tent like material which I think is vinyl, and more stretchy fabrics for clothing. I'm just getting started so I'm unsure what thread I should have in my accessories. I'd like to make little zip up makeup/utensil type of bags with the dollar store fabric, but ultimately I'd like to make more outdoor type of bags and maybe some clothing.
My daughter is staring to sew and she was asked to get ALL PURPOSE thread. Do you sell that? She has a SM2700 Brother machine and I accidently brought a 40 wt and she was not able to work with it. It would jam her machine. I wonder if it's the needle or accessory that she should change on the machine if she used a 40 wt.
Thank you, you gave lots of important info!
Thanks for watching!

What type of thread do you recommend for professionally hemming denim? Thank you
Use a cotton thread that is close to the color of the thread already on your jeans. The trick is to use a triple stitch to get the same look.

Looking for a colored thread that won’t loose it’s color if bleached
I just want some seam sewing thread
What are you using it on? Are you creating garments?

I would definitely have her try a 50wt (all-purpose) thread for that machine. It's thinner so might work better.
Just say 40 wt is thicker and 60 wt is thinner. Done.
