He's got the talent to be unstoppable. But I think his footwork and his handles while definitely already impressive for his size will need some more work. His movements in general look a little bit unrefined, but I think within two years of going up against more athletic and longer defenders will force him to develop more unpredictability and shake in his offensive moves/overall decisiveness. I think he legit is a generational type talent, might just take a little longer for him to develop because he is such a unique prospect.
I think he'll be some cross between KG & Dirk Nowitzki which honestly is pretty damn good. Not playing him in Summer League or FIBA makes sense as he played pro ball right before the draft let him actively rest by training but not playing intensely until closer to training camp
Just wait till he doesn’t and than all of sudden since he’s not a top 10 player in his rookie season he’s a “bust” y’all did the same with ball saying he’s magic/ curry with a 40 inch jumper 😂😂
Wemby is going to need 2-4 years to be really great, imho. And that actually fits the Spurs' timeline *perfectly* - their young core also needs 2-4 more years to become real contributors on a potential title contender. And yes, I as a Spurs fan deliberately added "potential" in that last sentence because it's by no means guaranteed to happen. We might be far away from title contention in 2026/27, or we might be right there in the mix or even title favorites.
Thank you for saying this. The hype and expectations are so out of reality. He is an unique prospect, but regarding actual current ability he isn't nowhere near ready to dominate from the beginning. At the same age Luka was the Euro league MVP, while Wemby is one the better players at French league, which is a good pro league, but nowhere near the standard of Euro league or Real Madrid. His potential talent ceiling is worth the hype, but he isn't the player to play to that potential yet. Again compared to Luka, he isn't as ready to hit the ground running at NBA.
It’s only been one summer league game and this video has already aged like fine wine. People are gonna overreact but his playmaking/passing, shooting form, and defense looked awesome.
And 3 assists 1 steal and shoot over 47% from the field and over 33% from 3. Those should be the realistic statistical goals to reach for year 1. Those are great numbers for a rookie. His defensive impact will be massive right away even if the offense takes more time to improve. But maybe he does come out and average 20+ efficiently right away I wouldn’t be surprised at all
I feel the same way. He’s being overhyped too early. I can see him averaging 17ppg on 46-49% FG with maybe some 30pt games here and there. I think if he stays healthy and continues to improve he will be unguardable
@@nanathegoat5106 it isn't wemby could easily score 15 points by playing the pick and role and getting some offensive rebounds alone, he'll definitely average close to 20
@@EthanIzeta still feel that way after tonight. The kid is good but he is not averaging 17 in his rookie year. Stop. I am super impressed with his vision though. The passes were superb for his size and the rim protection is def there. He will be good.
Hell, even LeBron struggle mightly with efficiency in his rookie year. Despite averaging over 20ppg, he shot an honestly pretty horrible 41.7% (29% from three) his rookie year. It was his sophomore year when he really took off and became a perennial all-star. The nearly exact same scenario happened to Kevin Durant, a 20 ppg rookie season but on rather inefficient shooting (43%). By year two, he became more efficient, and by year three, he was the league's top scorer. I honestly can see Wemby having a similar season to Anthony Davis' rookie season (64 games, 28.8 minutes per game, 13.5 pts, 8.2 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks on about 10-11 shots per night). AD didn't win Rookie of the Year (Dame won that year), but he went on to be very, very good (easily top 5-10 player in the league when healthy)
No bron didn’t shoot bad you can’t compare 2003 era & pace to 2023… all shooting percentages were lower in the slow ball era … 20ppg was like 25ppg today & 41% was like 45% today ‼️

For me the math is very easy. Scoot and Victor are both 1st team all nba caliber prospects. But only one of these guys has a durably-built body, while the other is a massive outlier who everybody knows will suffer from SEVERAL injuries. Therefore, you go with the guy that does not have as high of an injury risk.
Scoot missed a lot of games this season, Wemby zero, so you'll never knows what could happen. And Wemby if not injured could be Top 5 or 10 All Time probably not Scoot.

LeBron was the only guy I can remember who came into the league with this hype and had a grown man’s body. It’s going to take some years to see where this guy ends up. His floor is Shawn Bradley. That wouldn’t be great. Everyone needs to calm down a bit.
Realistically I expect at least 6 rebounds, 13 points, and 2 blocks a game. That’s if he’s playing 35 minutes a game. Regardless, teams will feel his presence in the paint and you’ll see that in his advanced stats. I think you’re 110% correct on this video Tucker. The thing about Wemby is he has a very unique skillset, and it’s going to take him a season or two to figure out how he wants to use it. We haven’t seen a lot of 6’9+ guard-like players. Giannis/Durant/Dirk are some examples, but despite how this season looks, I’ll still be excited to watch him play
Also, the players you mentioned all took a while (two years min) to really get going, precisely because of their unique build and gameplay styles. Durant took a season or two to bulk up and by year three became the scoring machine we now know him as. Giannis wasn't even the primary starter his first year and didn't make his first all-star team until year four. Same with Dirk, who struggled as a rookie but by year three was All-NBA 3rd team.
I feel like he is never going to be a wing threat (too slow) or post threat (too weak). He should have worked on post skills in his youth so he could at least be a Ralph Sampson type player, but he looks like Porzingis down there (weak) and this is against subpar competition. Potential to be Strong 3 and D guy though.
He'll be great if things go the right way for him. I do think there's a such thing as unhealthily optimistic expectations. None of these guys gets a chance to get caught up with the pace of the NBA because everyone is playing armchair recruiter and GM. He's up against some really stiff competition in his generation of players so give the guy time and understand you never know what obstacles any of these players will run into along the way.
Media always wants to raise people up and can’t wait to bring them down. The kid has obvious talent and will be great and amazing but it will take time. Wemby and the Spurs have to play the long game and the kid will be just fine.
Yesterday was his summer league game and he only got 9 points and 8 rebounds in 27 minutes but it was just one game and he also got 5 blocks so rn it’s hard to tell if he’ll be a bust, a player who’s only good at defense, or the goat
i think he will average 20.6 ppg 11.4 rpg 3.2 apg 0.3 spg 2.5 bpg on 51-34-79 shooting splits an he will win roty be a all star reserve and play 67 games but they will miss the playoffs and his season will end!
This video is not hating it’s the truth it is so rare that someone with as much hype as him lives up to it we are lucky Lebron didn’t fold under pressure and somehow surpass expectations but don’t forget the others that didn’t aka fultz ball Wiggins aka mable Jordan, Exum and plenty of more
He showed flashes in the first game, all the misses work makeable. I was impressed, but tonight he should have validated the hype. The ball handle is crazy at the height and he’s a cross between Giannis/Porzingis length and KD skill.
Calling him greatest prospect of all time is just so disrespectful to the game. Of course there will be pushback If i was that kid i would be toning all that crap down
My issue with bro is his size. He can b the most talented player ever. But if ur that tall and u can’t break 250 pounds that’s an issue. If players like bam and other strong defensive centers j get in his space and bump him around I think he will struggle. And despite his hight any center that knows how to position their defender under the basket will cook him j bc of his weight.
Why would the risk of Wembanyama turning out to be bad cause me to worry unless I’m rooting for the Spurs? If I want anyone else to win that would be a source of relief not worry.
you're wrong when you said he'll have to fit into their system, the spurs coaches said they'll allow wemby to play like wemby. but i do get what you mean by him not going iso every possession. so yes i think he'll have great stats and yes i think he'll average 30mpg on the dot
People will clown him even if he does really well. Haters cannot be reasoned with, because they don't want him to live up to their expectations. My only hope is that Wemby is so undeniably great that they feel stupid even talking about him.
I mean are people really carried away with the hype. Like we don't go through this every year, zion was insane hype. So was lonzo. Fuck Wiggins hype was unreal. Anyone that's been watching the NBA for more than a minute won't be carried away.
This is so ridiculous honestly. As an european I understand you guys do not believe in Wemby just because he’s not American, otherwise you would. Second point is you guys are really impatient. Stop expecting players to be good right away, let them develop. Maybe his first year will not be perfect, but once he’ll get in more weight and develop physically, he’s gonna be really good. The fact that he’s in an organization as good as the Spurs will help. His ceiling is very high… Why call him a bust if he has not even played an NBA game yet?
Wemby and his marketing team put themselves is this overhyping mess. He decided to stop euroleague with ASVL and go to fench league so he could have more minutes and points, be the focus of his team, to look good for the NBA draft. He was marketed as an "alien", "best prospect in the sport ever", "already a pro playing with men", "MVP of his league", was on every french sport show, it's not just the NBA media, it's his team. And it worked. But now he has to perform to meet expectations. Maybe he should have come into the NBA with a lower profile,, he wouldn't get those criticism and they would give him all the time he needs. But he wouldn't have gotten 1rst draft pick money.
Media is now looking who to replace Lebron to be the face of the NBA, they want a player whose marketibility is high, because the players they hyped before failed like Zion, next is Ja Morant. Now enter Jokic but Jokic market value is not to high because of Jokic type of play doesnt show flashes like high flying dunks and athletism. Thats why NBA and media hype Wemby to be thier next guy, but the Spurs org doesnt do that, they want a low key, long game and in methodical way.
It's a coin flip really LeBron had a more nba ready body but if wemby was 2 inches shorter no one would care about his weight and he's a lot further along defensively than LeBron and further along as a shooter as well. The argument would basically be LeBron dominated hs kids in Ohio not the best basketball state more of a football state meanwhile wemby dominated grown men, a more well built Magic or Kareem with a 3
We don't play less games in France, that's a misrepresentation. Euroleague teams play over a 100 games/season (National RS + PO + Euroleague RS + PO + National cups). My team (ASVEL, Wemby played there before going to Paris) plays over 100/seasons. Wembanyama left to play less games on a lesser team to reduce the chances of injuries. Whilst with us, he was out injured often.
Crazy on how many people praying on his downfall just because he didn’t go to their team 😂

Media always wants to raise people up and can’t wait to bring them down. The kid has obvious talent and will be great and amazing but it will take time. Wemby and the Spurs have to play the long game and the kid will be just fine.
Yessssssss
Idk if he wins rookie of the year but Id give him a few year
Hopefully we get two #1 overall picks competing for the rookie of the year honor
For is rooki season i wanna se about 15 point 7 rep 3 assist over 1 block/steal with nice shooting couple post move/drive per game and 65+ game played
Yesterday was his summer league game and he only got 9 points and 8 rebounds in 27 minutes but it was just one game and he also got 5 blocks so rn it’s hard to tell if he’ll be a bust, a player who’s only good at defense, or the goat
No matter what he will be a stud rebounder and rim protector.
I still think that wemby will play 70+ games because he is going to really want to play cause he loves ball
He will be fine.
i think he will average 20.6 ppg 11.4 rpg 3.2 apg 0.3 spg 2.5 bpg on 51-34-79 shooting splits an he will win roty be a all star reserve and play 67 games but they will miss the playoffs and his season will end!
splits are too good, every rookie struggles with efficiency I don't think wemby is the exception although I do believe he will be close to 50 33 80
Bro didint even play a game in the nba and People already making thumbnails with him going to china 💀💀
Of course there will be pushback
If i was that kid i would be toning all that crap down
He’s gonna be leading the nba in blocks for years to come
16, 8, and 2.5 stocks would be a very successful rookie year
The hype train has left the station, and most us are on are on that train.
Even if his offense doesn't come along quickly, his defense will be there.
Tha bucks need em😤
Not me, I have realistic expectations 😊
you're wrong when you said he'll have to fit into their system, the spurs coaches said they'll allow wemby to play like wemby. but i do get what you mean by him not going iso every possession.
so yes i think he'll have great stats and yes i think he'll average 30mpg on the dot
Scoot will have a better career when all is said and done.
He needs to put on at least 30 pounds to be a mainstay in this league
The title is clickbait as hell dude just why?

This video is spot on! People calling him bust already
The only "Bust" Wemby will be doing is Busting other teams heads!!! 🤣🤣🤣 A "Bust" on Pops watch? I don't think so!!! Spurs4Life baby!!! 😎🤙💕💯
U gotta condition your body it will get us to the grind sitting him all the time is what is going to injury him.
That’s a good vid, not everybody will understand
Anyone want to revisit some takes?
People will clown him even if he does really well. Haters cannot be reasoned with, because they don't want him to live up to their expectations. My only hope is that Wemby is so undeniably great that they feel stupid even talking about him.
yup same happened with Lebron, second if not best to ever do it but easily the most hated player.
I mean are people really carried away with the hype. Like we don't go through this every year, zion was insane hype. So was lonzo. Fuck Wiggins hype was unreal. Anyone that's been watching the NBA for more than a minute won't be carried away.
Especially when you see who saying this garbage. People literally think Steven A is an analyst.
he a bust already with his first game 1-10 fg 😂
Is this FlightMike? Voice sounds different but they structure their sentences the same.
Saw a clip of him on the court and he was wearing a woman's sports bra I don't need to see anymore
You know what that’s for right
French freaky alien genotype
This will age well I think
I Kinda bit worried because his expectation are too high
Rewatched this video, spot on prediction 🔥
He needs to stay in the paint no way a guy his size should be on the perimeter thats lunch meat for a great defending guard
Damn…
Media is now looking who to replace Lebron to be the face of the NBA, they want a player whose marketibility is high, because the players they hyped before failed like Zion, next is Ja Morant. Now enter Jokic but Jokic market value is not to high because of Jokic type of play doesnt show flashes like high flying dunks and athletism. Thats why NBA and media hype Wemby to be thier next guy, but the Spurs org doesnt do that, they want a low key, long game and in methodical way.
I expect his rookie season to be similar to Embiids.
Dude is just hating because he went to the Spurs. Simple
Wembanyama ain't considered the greatest prospect of all time yall gotta stop with that. That still goes to LeBron
It's a coin flip really LeBron had a more nba ready body but if wemby was 2 inches shorter no one would care about his weight and he's a lot further along defensively than LeBron and further along as a shooter as well. The argument would basically be LeBron dominated hs kids in Ohio not the best basketball state more of a football state meanwhile wemby dominated grown men, a more well built Magic or Kareem with a 3
Sports fans attempt to humble every single player that's ever played any sport, Wemby will have to feel the full force of this for his first year...
Haters gonna hate.
I think rookie year he is going to have some growing pains defensively though I think he will be great right off the bat
This was presented with intelligence and insights. Well done.
