There will be many who will defend him and to balance that out there will be just as many who would be waiting to pounce on him and sling mud on his name for every little stumble, misstep and failure.

The expectations are RIDICULOUSLY high. I don’t care how great you are, it takes a certain amount of luck too. Your body has to hold up. You have to get the right team/GM/Coach combination. You hope you get good teammates. Think about it, David Robinson got his two rings because he got injured one year, the Spurs were terrible and they got Tim Duncan. Ralph Sampson is the closest comparison to Wembanyama in terms of height/size and play-style. Sampson was a 3x college player of the year. He could run the floor and pass. He made it on the Sports Illustrated cover 6x while in college. People were expecting him to score like Wilt and win championships like Russell, but that was not the case. While he did have a good start to his career, injuries ultimately derailed his promising career.
