Miguel's Garage totally understand the difference between the two. Chose FWD mainly because I live well above the snow belt in Canada; would also say the TSX feels lighter, more tossable and easier to drive than the Lexus; 5 years of ownership exp (bought used and it's a 2010 model) and it still feels tight
Have owned a IS250 X for a few years, now with 95k kms (60K miles). This is my second Lexus, previously RX for 10 years. I work as a limousine driver in my retirement and enjoy comfort, my latest work vehicle is a 2016 Audi Q7 3.0TDI. I feel good when I get back in my little Lexus and drive it, quieter, smoother, more comfortable, wouldn't swap it if there was a cash difference. The luxury sports would probably be even more quiet. The ES350 leaves them all in the dust, the only issue is the head space in the back seat for people over 6'2', but still ultra quiet, smooth and comfortable. Colour is mica red and outshines the Audi although still 8 years older. Regular oil changes is the key.
Hows the head height in the is250 for the driver? I'm looking at getting one but at 6'3 I'm pretty cautious and I can't test drive atm because of covid.

@@juliearuna9021 Thank you for your kind comment. I bought my IS when it was 9 yrs old but it had low miles. Everyone claims it is a "sleeper car" which it is not. Yes, I could've purchased a BMW 325,, yet I've learned from what my friends did. I don't need the status symbol of a BMW and rather appreciate the elegance and reliability of the Lexus. I live in Massachusetts and any car with more horsepower is a waste of money (and gas).. I have the AWD version and it deals with the snow fine. Recently, because of Covid and the car prices increasing, my car is worth more than I paid for it. I could sell it, yet if I buy another car, its price will also be inflated.
"the engine is Ok, nothing special" - Meanwhile here in Italy half the cars on the roads have less than 100 HP and 200HP on a sedan is considered a premium feature
@@moa-wg3bo well, in Italy Fiat, Renault and Peugeot are very popular cars, Alfas are a bit more premium but the majority of luxury cars are German, like Audi and Porsche. There's still a big vintage car movement, especially around historical models like the Lancia Fulvia, Alfa Giulia and above all the Fiat 500. The number of Ferraris and Lamborghinis is very very low, you only see them rarely and around rich cities like Roma, Milano and so on. In the poorer parts of the country it's all about Fiat Panda 😅
Had an IS 250 for 9 years, traded at 14Yo, best car ever owned, amazing reliability, never went into LIMP MODE (several times) like a mercedes I owned, just felt special every day, recently traded for a volvo S60 very nice car but it 's no LEXUS, 15 months old and already showing software issues. These are very good cars. I have one, and I’m very satisfied with it, except for one little thing. It consumes oil. I wouldn’t necessarily say at a terrible rate, but I measured it and it’s 1 quart consumed every 1700 miles . I’m used to checking it often and topping it off if needed. I do believe this happens with all older cars. It’ll consume more oil as it ages and gets above 100k miles like mine. But yeah overall a good car.
The problem with buying an older used is250 is as a lower priced "aspirational" model, if its had multiple owners, it might not have been maintained properly just like any cheap older luxury brand car.
Problem i have with it. Went check one out and it looked nice until the guy told me he bought it from a younger guy who spray painted the calipers. Noped the hell out of there

Hi Miguel This was a really good intro to the IS. You touched on the water pump & the fuel leak. Would you ever consider doing one on the specific maintenance requirements/intervals etc etc & how to do various jobs on one of these ? Thanx
I test drove a 2007 is250 recently with 223,000km on the clock . The ride was very comfortable. I did notice at 100km/h it was only in 4th gear , unfortunately for that particular car there was a transmission shudder when changing upto 5th gear at 120km/h. It did have the usual cracked dash & milky headlamps. I believe these cars suffer from carbon build up too. I intend on buying an Is250 automatic over the next couple of months as a weekend car . ( here in Ireland the car tax is 1080euro per year . Fuel at the moment is 1.85 per litre so it's an expensive car to run - a 3rd gen Is300h tax is 190euro tax for comparison)
My grandfather's 58 Buick Electra had a speed indicator. It was located on the dash, left side of the speedometer. It would buzz as you got close to the set speed. A red line appeared above the indicator on the speedometer
Bought a 2006 is250 for my step daughter and it has only done 89,000km. Drives beautifully .. only concern is that the VSC light keeps coming on intermittently
Intermittent problems are really hard to diagnose. Your best bet will be to take it to a shop so they can diagnose it. It could be one of the sensors that attaches to the struts to report to the computer the vehicle's angle. These cars also have sensors that apply the brakes to ONE of the two front tires if the tails steps out. This helps you stabilize the car. All these sensors need to work together for it to function properly. Perhaps one of the sensors or the linkages that feed those sensors is going bad. Hope you can work it out!

i'm glad you did this video! I'm a huge fan of the IS line and have had all three generations. 1st gen was very sporty, 2nd gen gained luxury but lost a little of its sportiness, 3rd gen found the right balance between style, sport performance, luxury and tech. I'm interested to see what the next iteration of this car will be there soo many rumors!!! (also specifically is you buy a used 2nd gen IS250, they are known to have carbon buildup in the engine that lexus will 100% resolve for you! )
Good video. I own a 2007 IS250 with the Mark Levinson sound package and the only other thing i would say to watch out for is the media touch screen. The digitizer failing is a common problem, this makes the touch screen totally unresponsive. Also look iut for the GPS navigation system losinh satellite signal, mine has lost signal premanently and now shows me driving through oceans and uninhabited forest. I havent figured out what the cause of this is yet.
Yep, my 08 IS250 having this issue at the moment. The system frozen and becoming unresponsive. My local machanic reset the system so I can use air-cond, radio etc but the satellite is driving through the Pacific Ocean currently 🙁
@@tclex611 That is a terrible issue to have, but it does sound pretty badass, to be driving through the Pacific. Maybe there's some hidden Easter Egg, where if you drive far enough west you'll reach the Marianas Trench.

I run 18 inch rims on it and had 4 tires blow within a year (Michelin Pilot Super Sport)I got friends running 20s on other cars but none of them have these issues. I always drive around potholes and avoid uneven roads as much as possible. Kind of disappointed. Although, the IS known for premature tire wear and other related issues. FYI, the gas milage is crap for what it is. I suggest the IS350 if you can get because the fuel consumption is almost the same. Other than that, wouldn’t really recommend the car. The brakes are garbage, the suspension is stiff( I understand its a “sport” oriented sedan but its no Ferrari either), and the carbon buildup costs thousands to fix (only IS250 is affected, the IS350 has the port fuel injection system)
Jerome Harris it’s stock f sport wheels came 18’s from the factory even if it came with 17’s the look would be thrown off to me too small for my liking .
Miguel's Garage it means that you have to install one Oil catch can. Carbon build up It's a common issue of all direct injection engines. Pros. You can find awesome cars sold very cheap. Cons. You might have a dead engine or that drinks a lot of oil.
I don’t know that installing a catch can on a daily driver like this would be good. That’s another variable to worry about. You’re probably better off just cleaning the intake every 80-100k miles or so...
Miguel's Garage as you wish, if you like most that mechanics rape your engine, than just unscrewing and cleaning a can leaving your engine untouched, it's up to each owner to decide.
Yes, it is common problem mentioned at clublexus. The operation to clean the engine is long and costly. Whatever, I'm not sure that the catch can brings definitely closure. One of the "seems to work" method is to inject a special cleaning foam at regular intervals, also, at regular intervals, to push the engine as hard as possible during a middle trip. The combination of those two mesures seemed to work well for most.
Tires are beyond expensive, you gotta do that stupid carbon cleanup and you better hope to god nothing goes wrong it..I can just imagine the repair bill..but for the most part..it’s a rock solid car..just stay away from potholes
the IS350 is more expensive to buy and maintain and up until 2013 I think, it only came RWD. I prefer the IS350 myself, but just pointing out some things to consider if buying one...
In terms of what? and also what year are we talking about? Generally speaking, since I don't know which specifics you'd like me to talk about, I can say that the ES is a very smooth reliable luxury car. I think it brought a lot to the segment. So much so that Both Mercedez and BMW followed its foot steps introducing FWD version of their own. As far as the LS, in general terms, I think that the LS just as Lexus as a brand redefined the segment and brought a whole new level of value and customer service that wasn't available before. Just to put it into perspective, the LS project cost Lexus 1 BILLION dollars in 1983 or just close to 3 BILLION dollars in today's money. You only do that when your goal is to be the BEST!
yes. Keep changing the transmission oil every 60k and it should not give you any problems at all. One of the few cars that have a reliable conventional auto box.
@Loik Sherali go to website to search car Lexus 08 for 4k with less miles, they will show you they available or not. My website for me is CarGurus.com my areas is 5 to 6k for this car😒🤨. If they don't have it,you better buy the car you found. But before you buy, test drive first and look around and stuff.
AWD cars need the all four tires replaced at the same time and that's an expense to consider!! The way I would go is the is350 rear wheel drive with over 300 horses, port injection, and a smooth eight-speed automatic and less maintenance, less weight, and less headaches than AWD
really needing an awd car... wondering if i'd be crazy to go down (in age anyway) from a 2014 corolla with 90,000kms to a 2009 awd is250 with 220,000kms. the lexus is really in good shape body and frame wise as my corolla but obviously has more than double the mileage and is almost twice as old. either way the corolla is going down the road in no more than 5 years. i have not usually been scared of mileage and not really sure why i bothered to buy a new corolla, should have gone used.... was just trying new for the first time ... new is over rated.... not wasting time again on that
These are a hell of a lot of car for the money in the UK but, due to there emissions and our tax bands there over £500 a year to tax. If you can find a 2005 model there only £315 a year but 2006 onwards the tax bands and emissions grouping changed again. Certain cars, like the 350z, people only really want the 05 and below models because of this.
I think you'll find the automatic is in a lower tax bracket than the manual. I'm thinking of getting one of these because they seem to have a great reputation in the UK although reading the comments above is a bit off putting.

@@Miguelsgarage yeh at the moment no probleme but 3weeks ago I had a steering probleme and was very hard to turn after diagnosis we found the probleme on steering ECU
absolutely. Many things on the IS350 are more expensive. Tires are more expensive, service is more expensive, brakes are more expensive, gas consumption is higher, etc... Keep in mind I'm not debating which is better, just stating that the IS350 is in fact more expensive to run and maintain than the IS250.
I an torn between Honda Accord Euro 2010 and 2007 IS250 Sports Luxury (Accord is $1k cheaper than Lexus) lexus mileage little less than accord. Which one should i go for? Any suggestions.
Looked at a 2010 AWD IS250 with 200 000 km (125 000 miles) in perfect condition all Lexus dealer serviced for a good price with no accidents. You think it would be a better car than a 2014 Mazda 3 with a way lower mileage?
Paul Radziievskyi they are different types of cars. The Mazda is an economy car. The Lexus is a luxury car. Lexus will cost more to maintain but I think is a much better product.
i own this car, this is one of the nicer ones out there. But realistically, you want a car that is in your price range. If you want to buy a car, buy one that's newer/with less mileage. Even though Lexus is known for its quality, the maintenance cost of a high mileage luxury car can crash you and even after you fix everything up, the value of the car does not rise a bit. Be smart and choose the newer Mazda, and buy a newer Lexus when you can afford it down the road.
$2K?? This car isn't that bad. The right side is very easy, the left side, you have to remove part of the intake, but not the end of the world. At most, a few hundred bucks a any decent shop.
@@Miguelsgarage i looked up average prices for maintenance and 2k came up for sparkplugs, i looked at the video for replacing them and seen dude talking the throttle body off and part if the intake i was like nawl man its not that serious, but i do still like these cars just not when its time for mantenance.
Thanks for the video and tips. I think you didn’t show enough of the interior of this car and missed a huge part. The IS250 2006-2010 has no reverse camera. In this day an age, I wouldn’t spend $11,000+ on any car that does not have a reverse camera. Parking and still turning your neck in this day and age is something that nobody wants. I think it’s huge. All IS350s come with the reverse camera/SatNav and I believe that’s a very significant upgrade even when the car is 10yrs old.
Where did you get all this info from pal? The IS came with different options including reverse cam from 2006. My 08 is350 has the luxury trim which comes with 6 sonar sensors, Mark Levinson sound system, AFS, memory and cooled seats, reverse cam, rear curtain, auto telescopic steering wheel and the list goes on. That's to say it has the most options of the IS and it was available right from 06.
I recently purchased a IS250 with 39K miles now on 40, and these carbon build issues reviews are scaring the crap out of me, is this a common issue. with all.. lol
Lark Thomas honestly. I’ve been looking for it but it’s scaring me away from the car. Can’t afford to fix that. Heard a recall has been issued for it though.
Sea Foam in the gas tank will do nothing for carbon building on the valves in a direct injection engine. The injectors spray directly into the combustion chamber, so unlike a port injection engine the fuel never hits the valves. Spraying it into the intake may help prevent buildup of you do it often enough, but i don't think there's any solid evidence it does.
I've got a is250 manual 2008 with 69k miles, the carbon build up thing isn't even that big of a thing, people like to repeat and exaggerate what they see on the internet. Don't get me wrong it does exist but the remedy is to simply take the car on long drives occasionally and keep it in the higher revs for a little while and you should have no problem.
350 is more powerful, more fun, better brakes, and more engaging, but it will also cost you a little bit more to maintain, but not significantly more. If you can afford the higher price of the IS350, I would say go for the 350. Lots of aftermarket support as well!
What to LOOK for when buying one - it starts at 9:29 and it stops at 10:15. Everything else is just about the car...

I cross shopped this and an Acura TSX, both with the 6mt. Went with the Acura, but the IS is a great car; it's a tighter Lexus
Interesting! Different cars. The TSX is a FWD car while the Lexus is RWD. Different driving feel. Did you notice that while driving them?
Miguel's Garage totally understand the difference between the two. Chose FWD mainly because I live well above the snow belt in Canada; would also say the TSX feels lighter, more tossable and easier to drive than the Lexus; 5 years of ownership exp (bought used and it's a 2010 model) and it still feels tight
Definitely a good car, no question about it! Did you get the 4 cyl or 6 cyl?
Miguel's Garage 2.4 6 speed manual.
That car would last forever! Maintain it well and you are set! Thanks for sharing and please consider subscribing! I appreciate it!
I don't understand the mean comments. If people don't like the video, then STOP watching!! Miguel, this original video allowed me to purchase my Lexus IS with more certainty. As for the haters, get lost, or learn to add your negative comments in a MATURE constructive way that we all can learn from them (or dismiss them).
I agree
Dude, you need a new mic.

Not everyone lives in the US there are quite a few manual ones here in South Africa I imagine they will be cheaper to maintain

Hi Miguel This was a really good intro to the IS. You touched on the water pump & the fuel leak. Would you ever consider doing one on the specific maintenance requirements/intervals etc etc & how to do various jobs on one of these ? Thanx
Possibly!
Own one, love it. Great video!!!
Yup I have the famous IS 300 😬 great car white pearl looks way better ... Making mods to it and enhancements soon it'll be a good looking car... My IS I had a recall paper come in saying my airbags weren't good haven't gone to fix that yet
i'm glad you did this video!
Interesting! I hadn't heard that as a common problem yet. Good to know! Thanks for the tip and please subscribe if you haven't yet. I appreciate it!!!

@@tclex611 That is a terrible issue to have, but it does sound pretty badass, to be driving through the Pacific. Maybe there's some hidden Easter Egg, where if you drive far enough west you'll reach the Marianas Trench.
The one thing I don't like about this car is that it shifts to 1st gear if I slow down below 5mph. If I'm going over a major speed bump or sometimes crawling around a corner it goes down. Is this normal because if it shifts down to 1st from 2nd I immediately want to go while it's still rolling then it's an ugly upshift
That window feature at @5:00 is pretty cool, had it on my 8th gen Honda Accord
i think the 350 is a better idea now that the car ages - don't have to worry about carbon build up either

Carbon accumulation on intake/suction valves. Requires catch can
WolfoxBenny what do you mean requires catch can? Meaning it has to be replaced?
The combination of those two mesures seemed to work well for most.

the IS350 is more expensive to buy and maintain and up until 2013 I think, it only came RWD. I prefer the IS350 myself, but just pointing out some things to consider if buying one...
Miguel's Garage What is your opinion on the ES and LS?
Miguel's Garage LS 2013 & ES 2013. I have seen reviews saying that the 08 LS is still a good buy

Dont get an IS250, get the IS350 it has over 300hp
yeah but it’s thousands more lol
@@reecefletcher7267 and? Its worth it.. 350's dont have carbon buildup issues and they have like 100hp more than a 250
I recently purchased a IS250 with 39K miles now on 40, and these carbon build issues reviews are scaring the crap out of me, is this a common issue. with all.. lol
Lark Thomas honestly. I’ve been looking for it but it’s scaring me away from the car. Can’t afford to fix that. Heard a recall has been issued for it though.
+Teh MC I need too find out if it was done, being that the model I purchase recently is a 2010 model..
Use sea foam regularly in the gas tank and into the intake and you can really help avoid this problem. A can of seafoam is about 10$
Sea Foam in the gas tank will do nothing for carbon building on the valves in a direct injection engine.
Don't get me wrong it does exist but the remedy is to simply take the car on long drives occasionally and keep it in the higher revs for a little while and you should have no problem.
my 07 is drinking oil bad no leaks looking for the best solution
Bad pistons/piston rings. I think there was a recall for this. Check with Lexus
Trying to decide between 07 350 and 08 250.
350 is more powerful, more fun, better brakes, and more engaging, but it will also cost you a little bit more to maintain, but not significantly more. If you can afford the higher price of the IS350, I would say go for the 350. Lots of aftermarket support as well!
