I'm here for the same reason, I'm not even African American but from Africa, when I'm overwhelmed by the suffering of black people in Africa I return here. Him and Malcolm give me a strength that even Nelson Mandela doesn't give. God bless these souls, their messages I will keep forever
You can tell he was uneasy imagining the dangers before him, but as Nelson Mandela once said, "courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it."
He knew he was gonna be killed. He also knew he was doing God's work and had no fear. He was divinely inspired and you can see that in his eyes. That soul was not from here if you get my meaning.
Totally understand. I'm not very religious, but I know this man was born for a reason. Many, many people pray for Heaven after death. This great man fought for Heaven on Earth, and practically gave his life for what he believed in. Nobody knows for sure if there's an afterlife, but if there is, I know MLK's soul is at peace in Heaven.
Every speech of his gives me chills and brings a tear to my eye! My parents preached the same, they're white and so am I, and I am so disappointed in the fact that racist people still thrive in this world.
Dr. King was anointed by God. He was an extraordinary human being. No fear of death. He knew he was going to die. He won because he's with God talking to all the great prophets and Jesus himself.

“Mine eyes have seen coming of Lord!” Is possibly what makes this one of the best speeches in American History. This whole speech is brilliantly framed within the heart of the American project and purpose. And to end it with the opening line of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, a song about the Union’s sacred mission, with later lines like: “as [Jesus] died to make men holy, let us die to make men free” Absolute masterclass in tying religious metaphors like deliverance, with the very core of the goal of the American national purpose.
A prophetic voice echoing down through out the ages and stages of generations. Dr. Martin Luther King, was a prophet of God, who wasn’t afraid to stand against opposition. “Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord.” - Dr. MLK
All we say to America is, "Be true to what you said on paper." If I lived in China or even Russia, or any totalitarian country, maybe I could understand some of these illegal injunctions. Maybe I could understand the denial of certain basic first amendment privileges because they had not committed themselves to that over there. But somewhere I read of the freedom of assembly. Somewhere I read of the freedom of speech. Somewhere I read of the freedom Somewhere I read that the greatness of America is the right to protest for rights. And so just as I say, we aren't going to let dogs or water hoses turn us around, we aren't going to let any injunction turn us around... Well, I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But I've been to the mountaintop. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land! And so I'm happy, tonight. I'm not worried about anything. I'm not fearing any man. What makes me sad is all the sacrifice that MLK, Malcolm X and others have made with their very life and we can still take each other's lives so thoughtlessly.
I watch this every MLK day. Amongst other thoughts and emotions, one that arises every year is that look in his eyes that indicates his mind is elsewhere, and on some heavy thing. And yet he presses on, and gives the speech he know will be helpful to his cause. The phonetics of "but it really don't matter with me now", and the ensuing comments, are incredibly moving. I think he did. There were plots and rumors of plots and with everything on fire at that moment he had to know his time was coming to end. It shows the courage he had to stay out there, stay in public view, keep on fighting the good fight no matter what might be after him. I think the only thing he would've have been glad about was that it wasn't a bomb or something like that so no innocents were hurt.

As an activist reaching the end of my own life, I remember this speech and the events of that week -- I was a child, but my father worked night security for the SCLC summer marches, and was a minister. That week changed my life. And this speech helps me reach peace with what I've been able to accomplish, but still makes me question the state of the world. It's a constant balance, isn't it? Between that which people do as the real "social justice warriors" (a title that shouldn't be so tarnished), and those who are not true to what we said on paper.

For those wondering He is quoting Moses in the Bible who never made it into the promised land and in fact died before the Israelites made it in. But he went up the mountain and God allowed him to see the promised land and therefore give him peace in knowing the Israelites will make it.
“I might not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people will get to the promised land.” Very chilling. He knew what was coming and he wanted to make sure the people did not stop the movement after his passing.
You could literally perceive that sense of foreboding in his eyes and the overwhelming courage in his voice...an acute awareness of his transcendental call to serve humanity - come rain, come shine.

This speech, being MLK's last one, always haunts me. I think he knew he didn't have long for this world. He says he had "been to the Mountaintop!" Whether it was the KKK or the CIA or a conspiracy of both, sadly, MLK knew his words were "dangerous." He sadly knew his life was at risk before that fateful day at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. But he kept on with his speech, and he was as strong willed as ever. Sadly, Martin Luther King, Jr. didn't "get there with us." But spiritually, he did. His story has more or less left a big impact on my life, living in Atlanta now (the place of his birth) and having lived in Memphis were he was sadly gunned down. MLK stood for what he believed was right, even if it cost him his life.

Is possibly what makes this one of the best speeches in American History.
This whole speech is brilliantly framed within the heart of the American project and purpose. And to end it with the opening line of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, a song about the Union’s sacred mission, with later lines like: “as [Jesus] died to make men holy, let us die to make men free”
Absolute masterclass in tying religious metaphors like deliverance, with the very core of the goal of the American national purpose.

And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land!

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name; after that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid. When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there. Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.”

God Bless Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
Thanks for sharing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. -"I've Been To The Mountain" last speech. Yvonne B. & David L. Acey,Sr. we were there!. It is our mission to continue with "The Dream" and move to reality. Sisterly, with love, The Aceys
This is one of the best speeches I have ever heard! Just an absolute masterpiece. Goosebumps, shivers...
Reminder that MLK laughed while his friend sexually assaulted a female parishioner.
And it was given by a man who would be considered by his age to be a millennial today'. . My, how our standards have come crashing down..
@Ken Fresno You're an idiot The comment was meant to highlight the fact the man was under 40 when he was killed. if you can't see how far we have steered from his example today, then I got nothing for you son You're exactly who I am talking about.
Every American needs to listen to this speech. “I have a dream” and the “Gettysburg Address” several times between now and November 5. Then vote their heart and conscience.
So prophetic!!
He was serious. The blacks are the Hebrews of the Bible and God is coming to deliver them one last time from slavery and the land of their captivity. Just as in the days of old, he destroyed Egypt to set his people free, God is doing it again. This is why they killed him. Like they killed Jesus their savior also.
@@amaranta5293 You're so far off. You completely missed the point. Your comment is divisive and strays so far from MLK's message. And from the fact that you have left the same message repeatedly on this video I see that you are trolling. I shouldn't even be replying
@@madalomusic2097 the point was his people were going to go to the promised land. Earlier in the speech he literally described how he went to Jerusalem and the Lord opened his eyes to the truth. Like it or not America enslaved God’s children one last time and called them black, negros, etc,. Everything but what they were. What, are you mad at the truth? Does the truth make you uncomfortable? Good, it made America comfortable and that’s why they killed him the next day for trying to let his people know they were going to make it back to the promised land. Go listen to the whole speech and sit down.
““ ‘In that day,’ declares the Lord Almighty, ‘I will break the yoke off their necks and will tear off their bonds; no longer will foreigners enslave them. Instead, they will serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them. “ ‘So do not be afraid, Jacob my servant; do not be dismayed, Israel,’ declares the Lord. ‘I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity . Jacob will again have peace and security, and no one will make him afraid. I am with you and will save you,’ declares the Lord. ‘Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you but only in due measure; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.’”
Jeremiah 30:8-11
“And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them. So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward. And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.”
