I cannot believe that I found this footage. I am the student cameraman that recorded this speech. I remember this like it was yesterday. I have been telling my boys for years about this and now I can show them. I thought this was lost years ago and am so happy that it survived the years. I was 12 or 13 years old when he can to Barrett and was mesmerized by what he was saying. I can't wait to share this with my family. Wow I am elated that I found this.

Thank you for finding this. I have been listening to his speeches today, since this is the month Dr. King was born in. I was born in January 1956, the month after Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat. I saw so many things on TV and heard so many things on radio about the Civil Rights Movement. I grew up in Chicago and was appalled seeing the violence on television in the South against Blacks. I had and still have the greatest respect, admiration, and have been influenced by Dr. King, He was a preacher, A civil rights leader, and a man of great courage. I advocate for other and myself because of him.

As part of current project I am wanting to use some archive footage of Martin Luther King however due to me being a student I cannot afford to pay for some. The film's aim is to Repaint the Image of the black man whilst empowering, emancipating and motivating him to reach out for the best in a society that often paints him negatively. If given permission to use it, it would add so much to the project and pay honour to the man who has influenced many all over the world.

I am so proud and blessed to have been a student at Barrett Jr. High School when Dr. King came to our school and gave this speech, what he instilled in us cannot be measured with words, I am a senior now and it is a most treasured memory.

He gave this speech at a Jr High School. He invested in these young people. That is another element of his greatness. And he’s didn’t dumb it down. He challenged them. I was so moved by those words a few months back, I bought a box of greeting cards, wrote them out in each one, and gave them to the random homeless I passed in DTLA.
What I love most about this speech is that he was talking to Middle School Students without overly simplifying his message. He exposed them to high level vocabulary and concepts, speaking up and lifting them up. In schools we often hear "meet them where they are at". That has it's place, but we should focus more on opportunities to give them a glimpse of where we want them to be.

I feel as if people need to be constantly reminded of the basis of social relations, the essentials, respect so then you'll be respected. This man understood the extent of the psychological damage so well, the impact of the stigma. Everytime I listen to him he touches my soul and it makes me angry and sad at the same time because we are not there yet. People don't respect each other and those who are non white get a lot less respect from society let's face it, whether Asian, Latino, black, native American, nobody. Your kind was one of a billion, never to see the likes of your messages ever again. You passed the torch to us all, & we must grab it & go forward. Greatest respects to you Sir. So inspirational. I'm a retired Chinese Malaysian teacher. What I would have given up to have been able to have inspired my students all those past years to reach for the stars, like King had done. What a glorious speech, brought tears to my eyes.

This Man was a poet and an undeniable artist in communication. I'm here listening to his amazing speech and I understand why they killed him... He would've been America's first Black president and the world as we know it wouldn't have been the same. Rest in Glory Mr. King jr.

Why would he lower himself to the office of the president? He lived his life according to his much higher calling to spread the love of Christ.
True, but they couldn't have handled it. He was for justice, and the Presidency has never been utilized for that, even up to today. Dr. King would've revolutionized the office, that's for sure.
