I lived through this and worked in this cause in Atlanta. This man still brings me to tears of passion for a true and beautiful cause and a true and powerful man who stood head and shoulders over any other human I have ever met. Thank you for this one.
I imagine then the public killing of George Floyd much have touched you in the unique way it must when 50 some odd years later, we are still fighting for human rights for each individual, and especially BIPOC.

I do agree, our schools today focus on "testing and paperwork" at the said time the value of education and social development, civic responsibilities, respect these should be the core values. Teachers have little time to teach or instruct in a way that makes a difference.,

This is the speech we all should be made aware of. It is equal to the "I Have A Dream" speech because it is teaching children how to shape their minds. Once we have children with strong minds, we'll have grown-ups with strong minds.
This young man was ahead of his time. He was a very gifted person. But was in a very segregated society. So unfortunate. He was a prime example of what a good leader does.
I was in the audience at that time, and as he came down the right hand aisle in the auditorium, I got a chance to shake his hand. The moment and the speech always remained with me.
Really? Sorry, but you must be REALLY old. No offense about that, it was really cool if you met him!! I will never forget you said that. Awesome moment for you! Happy MLK day MLK!
Yes you are right, he walked down the right side of the auditorium. I wasn't lucky enought to shake his hand but I had the best vview of his speach behind the camera. It's also a day that I will never forget.
Martin Luther King was not a real Christian. He is almost as big a phony as Billy Graham, or the Roman Catholic "pope." The Lord Jesus Christ warned, "Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets" (Luke 6:26, KJV). Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
This is one of the best motivational speeches ever written and delivered in the entire history of the world. A classical rhetorical masterpiece dedicated to glorification of work.
My grandson is graduating this year and I'm going to share this with him. This is a speech that should be shared at sometime in every student's life. Dr. King's legacy lives on.
I loved when Martin Luther king says, you don't need cosmetics to make you light, or products advertised to make your hair straight. Black is beautiful.
He gave this speech at a Jr High School. He invested in these young people. That is another element of his greatness. And he’s didn’t dumb it down. He challenged them. They could see he’s studied hard himself-quoting all kinds of people from memory, reading from and about all kinds of people. What an example for them and for now.
His passionate speech left a lasting impact on me. I was not only moved by his words but also deeply inspired by his remarkable memory. Without relying on a teleprompter, I do not think he once glanced down at his notes during the entire speech.
When I was very young, my mother and father at different points in my life always would quote Martin luther king. I think of him daily because of this, Its sad that many generations have been without his wisdom.
So inspirational. I'm a retired Chinese Malaysian teacher. What I would have given up to have been able to have inspired my students all those past years to reach for the stars, like King had done. What a glorious speech, brought tears to my eyes.
Hi sir.. Im Malaysian too Im 18 this year and im very grateful that our country has great tchrs like you. May your students grow to be amazing world leaders in the future 💚

Same I'm in my late twenties and I hope to lead an example built with the blueprint of leadership that's shown in the character of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr!! Even though I've made bad mistakes in my life, I can always return to this speech and feel like I can do anything and believe in my own somebody-ness
Your life's blueprint must include: (1) a deep belief in your own dignity, worth, and your own "somebody-ness" (2) the basic principles to achieve excellence in your various fields of endeavors (3) A commitment to the eternal principles of beauty, love, and justice
Wow two days after my daddies birthday, a steady, stable, strong, practical Capricorn. Love respect and more love Dr. King, thank you for being so articulate, brilliant and brave!
I believe that Martin was sent by God to change the world’s racism and create more of a peaceful world and spread truth. I feel even the day that he was assassinated (however heartbreaking) was the day his Spirit chose to check out from this world. There’s even something to learn from his assassination, just like the crucifixion of our sweet Lord Jesus. Just like God reincarnated and walked the earth as Jesus Christ, to speak the Truth, and to change the minds of the people of the world and create peace, love, and harmony. Just like there was even something to learn from our Lord being Crucified on the Cross to reconcile God to Humanity. Jesus will Always be Feared, Revered, Loved, and Praised and Martin Luther King Jr will always be Revered, Loved, and Remembered for how God used his beautiful vessel to change humanity in a big lasting way, just like our Sweet Precious Lord Jesus Christ. Both were and are World Changers. 🙏🏼💞✨🌎✨💞🙏🏼

What I love most about this speech is that he was talking to Middle School Students without overly simplifying his message. He exposed them to high level vocabulary and concepts, speaking up and lifting them up. In schools we often hear "meet them where they are at". That has it's place, but we should focus more on opportunities to give them a glimpse of where we want them to be.
True, but they couldn't have handled it. He was for justice, and the Presidency has never been utilized for that, even up to today. Dr. King would've revolutionized the office, that's for sure.
I am not amazed our great leaders, or our great teachers, but what amazes me is your lack of self awareness projected on to others. Most of us have been awoken to this great message because we lived the message. It is my prayer if your words are sincere that your awaking will continue and move past words into action. The kind of action that is infectious and infected those closes to you.
This is an amazing speech that is as relevant today as it was nearly 50 years ago. Dr. King was a true visionary. I have memories of my parents sharing some portions of the speech but I didn't realize it was from this particular speech.
I am in tears Dr. Kings words have lifted the veil of uncertainty in my life. I'm amazed and happy that his words resonate with my life today in 2023. What a precious gift the universe gave us. I am grateful King family. 🙏😇♾️💓💐♎
Have a deep belief in your own dignity and self worth! "Always feel that you count, have worth and your life has ultimate significance! Preach on Dr. King!!!!
Nicholas Jones we can all together give this message a million tweets. We need it now more than ever. It seems that we have forgotten the light within us.
Dr. King exuded confidence and stature. He truly knew his significance and worth. That is so encouraging to me as a young black man of today’s society.
" Don't allow anybody to make you feel you are nobody, always feel ghat you count, always have feel you have worth and always feel your life has ultimate significance" This hit me deep.
I was so moved by those words a few months back, I bought a box of greeting cards, wrote them out in each one, and gave them to the random homeless I passed in DTLA.
I’m watching this on MLK Day in 2021, two days before the Presidential Inauguration. This message is powerful and timeless and as applicable today as it was when Dr. King first spoke them. May we all do our part to make this world a better place for all people.
What a speech! As a Professional Speaker and a Speaker Trainer, I use this as a blueprint to train my students at the African Inclusive Institute of Public Speaking (AIIPS). Thank you for recording this Lodges Lawton. You did a fantastic job.
I'm very excited to find this! I'm planning on showing this to my junior high kids this week as we dig a bit deeper into this great man and his message that is still very relevant on many levels today.
This man voice gives me chills I'm in tears listening to him. I'm so grateful to have come across this video I'm going to watch with my 4 year old daughter. 2021 Happy Birthday to the king👑
Every time I listened to his speech, I got goosebump. He had so much wisdom and Charisma. Some people talking for the sake of talking, this is what I called speaking with purpose and intention.
He was more than just a warrior for civil rights, he fought for the Kingdom of God. Armed with the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, he was worthy of honor. Thankful for a pastor that pounded into me the truth of a God stamp in life... and others.
What I love about this, along with the oratory, is that he gives a positive, inspiring, but yet still realistic message. Too often today (and it was true to an extent among some in his day), people give messages of gloom, despair, and agony on me that exploit the bitterness of the people, and find excuses for the failings of the youth. I've always said I thank God for Thomas Edison for inventing the means to record motion pictures and the human voice so that the words of great messengers can speak to us for all time. THANK YOU for preserving these great words.
This is July 2024, watching this in my small apartment in the Midwest, and Dr King’s eloquence and substance still holds power. What a mind and man! ❤❤❤
It just doesn’t get better than this. And , you can’t really teach this. He’s the third generation preacher in his family plus he’s brilliant and has an amazing memory and ability to recall a lot of material. He is THE motivator.
One of the biggest tragedies of the past 100 years.... His ability to inspire and affect change was not complete. I get so emotional hearing him speak. He was almost without compare.

I’ve revisited this speech for many years! It’s special like Dr. King & Mrs. Correta Scott King. Grateful for your courage and wisdom. We are Black, Beautiful, & Powerful.
This was such a blessing to me today. God bless those that made it available to all of us to enjoy. Beautiful, eloquent, intelligent and beyond inspirational.
Every speech, every word. Amazing pieces of American history. Dr King was necessary to our society's growth. I'm a proud, Republican American. I get chills everytime I hear Dr King speak. Dr King was an artist and a patriot. His words were so amazing. I was born a year before he was killed. Dr King was one of the greatest Americans who ever lived.
Out of curiosity, how did your students respond to seeing this speech? It would have been profoundly helpful and inspiring to have seen this when I was that age. You must be an excellent teacher to be a conduit through which this powerful message can reach young minds. :)
@naim sharif The boulé narrative and perspective that Dr. King was somehow a sellout is a deeply unfortunate one that has been perpetuated and reinforced through the internet, primarily. I believe its insidiousness is an effect of how little of Dr. King's life and work has actually been taught. Most have learned merely that this man "marched" and delivered the legendary "I Have a Dream" speech. The perspective that he was a different character altogether with true goals not worthy of our reverence is a fallacious notion. I am not undertaking an attempt to convince you of this, as the fervor with which you have expressed your views here are evidence of steadfast belief on your part. Dr. King was as all human beings are, an imperfect individual, but the realities of his work, attenuating the cacophony of terror for black people, enduring and teaching others to endure the manifestations of their worst fears in order to cultivate freedom...these realities are embedded in the fabric of our past and our future. Dr. King was a highly unpopular man at the time of his death, particularly amongst "elite" whites, many of whom refused to even take his calls. The surveillance and subjugation Dr. King was inflicted with sought to undermine his efforts because his open criticism of war, unfair wages, and workers rights for ALL people was too much for the "elites" in power to bear, beyond his concurrent fight for black people. Here was a man that died whilst fighting against the myriad injustices posed against sanitation workers. SANITATION WORKERS. Sanitation work does not now and did not then get further from elitist circles. If you are of the belief that Dr. King was a sellout because of his engagement with prominent whites of the time, I would ask what is detrimental about reaching across color lines as allies? Perpetuating a message of non-militant, non-violent unity did far more to advance civil rights than much of the oppositional messaging of King's contemporaries. This was not a form of "obedience" rather, an effective approach to garnering a calibre of respect for the inherent humanity of black people that had previously been unreservedly denied.
@naim sharif The advocating of a RUclips and Google "education" on this matter is absurd. Colonization of African nations began long before the Rockerfellers (centuries before) and any disenfranchisement and marginalization of black and brown people extends far beyond the Rockerfellers. Everything you have noted negates any indication that you have been on the receiving end of a substantive education. This is not a matter of "feelings" and "emotional attachment." This is a matter of knowingness. Studies find it is often the least educated amongst us that delve into fervent belief of the kinds of theories you espouse. Internet indoctrination is corrosive and particularly in individuals that are young and male. What are these masterful thinkers, these "honorable" men cultivating and engendering in the minds of those, such as yourself, that is truly bettering lives? Whilst you are littering RUclips comment sections spreading your message of resentment and vitriol toward Dr. King, his legacy, and any individual, such as 7th Grade teachers you do not know, what have you done to improve the lives of others? Is your goal ultimately to inform or insult? Educate or undermine? Your Orwellian estimations of control are grossly over-assumed. The world of academia as I have experienced it is one that has consistently encouraged expansive, independent, interdisciplinary thought. This pervasive malignancy of RUclips scholars has seemed to perpetuate intense violence, anger, and isolation. Those in search of an enemy will always find one. Stewing in what semblance of comfort or reassurance such conspiracy theories provide you is entirely your prerogative. Know this, very few others actually care.
This Man was a poet and an undeniable artist in communication. I'm here listening to his amazing speech and I understand why they killed him... He would've been America's first Black president and the world as we know it wouldn't have been the same. Rest in Glory Mr. King jr.
Amazing you said that. Just finished listening to some of President Obama's old speeches and then found myself listening to this. Maybe like John the Baptiste, his role was to help pave the way. Yes, Rest In Glory Dr. King jr. 🙏💟

This should be mandatory viewing in schools! What a powerful message, that still resonates today.
true that
I do agree, our schools today focus on "testing and paperwork" at the said time the value of education and social development, civic responsibilities, respect these should be the core values. Teachers have little time to teach or instruct in a way that makes a difference.,

This is the speech we all should be made aware of. It is equal to the "I Have A Dream" speech because it is teaching children how to shape their minds. Once we have children with strong minds, we'll have grown-ups with strong minds.

He gave this speech at a Jr High School. He invested in these young people. That is another element of his greatness. And he’s didn’t dumb it down. He challenged them. They could see he’s studied hard himself-quoting all kinds of people from memory, reading from and about all kinds of people. What an example for them and for now.
Well said, i agree entirely.

That has it's place, but we should focus more on opportunities to give them a glimpse of where we want them to be.

j.r raphard ....Yes.... however there is a time and a season for everything under the sun....
Why would he lower himself to the office of the president? He lived his life according to his much higher calling to spread the love of Christ.
True, but they couldn't have handled it. He was for justice, and the Presidency has never been utilized for that, even up to today. Dr. King would've revolutionized the office, that's for sure.
Dr. King's sermons/speeches were melodious in a noisy place.
Yes! I ended upon tears. Why haven't we yet as humans learned this powerful message?
I am not amazed our great leaders, or our great teachers, but what amazes me is your lack of self awareness projected on to others. Most of us have been awoken to this great message because we lived the message. It is my prayer if your words are sincere that your awaking will continue and move past words into action.

@naim sharif Where did Dr. King's interests lay?
King jr.
