thank you so much for the great video again. This is the first time someone has shown how to actually do a fresh water dip...love your channel so much educational..
Great video Cam, lots of useful information in it. One tip I can offer is to perform the bath in a dark or black bucket. It makes it much easier to discern the flukes once they become opaque as you mentioned or when they unhook from the host.
Interesting, I’ve never tried a black bucket, I just assumed black would be harder to see the flukes. I’ll give it a try next time I do a FW bath. Cheers. Cam
I'm gonna watch it again in sssslllooooooow mmmmmoooooo ...and it's amazing - the trigger is just looking at his hand for the food and never even sees the net till he's getting dragged outta the tank ;)
Hey idk if you know you can get the Hannah pH red instrument to check the pH in digital format it's so convenient. I also have salinity tester and they're great! Every once in awhile I clean it and calibrate them with special sachets that you can buy on Amazon.
When it comes to ich I’m all about good UV sterilisation. If you ensure your UV steriliser is rated to treat whitespot, and you’re careful to quarantine fish prior to adding them to your tank, you can be confident that ich and other protozoan infections won’t be a problem. The mistake that most people make is that they use undersized UV sterilisers. I never recommend UV sterilisers that don’t give ratings in milliwatts per cubic centimetres. Cam
Hi Thanks for the video. I also seems to have a fluke problem in my DT. Due to the the fish being hard to catch due to the aquascape I decided to catch the ones I could and do Fresh water dips and dose Prazipro for the remaining fish. I did two treatments 5 days apart but still see fish with flukes. Any suggestion on further treatments?
I just followed your directions to a tee for the same species of Trigger. So far he is pouting under a rock now but, I have a bunch of flukes in a bucket that are no longer on him so hopefully he will be ok.
Very helpful! Thank you 😊 Question though, I have a blue spotted puffer and I can’t use a net for him, but I can’t use a cup either because then that would pick up some of the saltwater from tank, any suggestions? 🤔
Yes, black marks can definitely be an indicator for flukes. As with any fish be very careful as you bath it, however it’s fair to say Sailfins typically tolerate freshwater baths well. Cam
It depends on the problem. Whitespot and velvet are the most common problems and we usually use copper, but other diseases require different treatments. Cam
I dipped my mocha vincis for the full 5 with air rated water and a small buffer, the last 13 seconds were extremely painful. My smallest almost didn’t come out of shock. After they became unpaired, they lost their spunk, and became very shy. I kept the lights off all day. Just a terrible day even tho I had to re pair them in a small breeding tank, they lost that little bond I feel. Maybe they’ll snap out of it. But the female became more aggressive. They were just babies, now they act like grown ups
In most cases no. Freshwater dips reduce the number of the infective stage, but don’t do anything for cysts (ie spots). I’d argue you’re stressing the fish more than it’s worth in parasite reduction. Cam
On the topic of fish, do you guys know of good fish databases with pictures? I've bought either a wrasse or an anthias. Weird thing is it's silver and tan colored, and I can for the life of me not find this guy/gal anywhere...
API test kits I wouldn’t recommend at all. The expiration is never correct and overall it’s just not accurate. Use a ph probe (needs to be replaced every 6-12 month) or a ph digital pen
Some of the API kits can have limited precision which doesn’t suit some reefers, however the high range ph test kit is quite good. Precision is not accuracy, and when used properly the API is very accurate. A lot of people write off API because they don’t understand the limitations of the different tests, but in this circumstance it’s perfect. Cam
Stuff like pH and nitrate I have no problem recommending API. When it comes to KH, CA, PO4 and some others I would go with either red sea/salifert or hanna

Very interesting, even i don’t have any fish in my nano tank.
I really like the relaxed non fancy Aussie style
Thanks Christian, we appreciate the feedback😊 Cam
Thanks for explaining how to raise and lower PH..... everyone fails to mention that part.... Good stuff
I didn't know it was necessary. I've always heard it has no affect on the fish since it's just a short period of time.
A very useful guide for dealing with flukes.

Impressive snag of the trigger. Had to watch it a few times as it happened so fast.
Lol! I’m so glad you noticed. We were trying to do minimal takes so it worked out beautifully. Cam
Thanks so much for making this video it's a lot more thorough than many other videos on here.
I need that huge dragon wrasse, stunning fish
Amazing video
Thanks so much for sharing
No worries😊 Thanks for watching. Cam
Glad you helped him out.
Nice job thanks for sharing
That was really interesting!
Cam the fish wrangler! How quick was that catch, awesome work guys!!
ben howard bath I’m so glad someone noticed that! Thanks Ben😉
I'm gonna watch it again in sssslllooooooow mmmmmoooooo

That was really interesting guys. Thanks for the videos guys.
We also use a baster while they are in the fw dip. Works very well
Good tip! I do that for flatworms on acro, I’ll have to try it on fish too. Cam
@@GalleryAquaticaTV thanks for the great videos!
Great Video! thank you!
great vid
Great video.

We didn’t have the Hanna pH when we filmed the video but we do now. I agree it’s very good. Cam
Could you do a feeding video on the tanks pls that would be cool as to see
fishing and out doors sam It’s definitely on our list of videos to film. Cam
Great video. Thanks. How do you approach ich?
When it comes to ich I’m all about good UV sterilisation. Now, thats the way to net a fish.

Great video! you should get the Hana checker ph meter! Seems like it would be a lot faster then doing that api test 20 times lol
You’re totally right, we even have one in the shop that I forgot about. Cam
I just followed your directions to a tee for the same species of Trigger. So far he is pouting under a rock now but, I have a bunch of flukes in a bucket that are no longer on him so hopefully he will be ok.
It’s definitely standard for triggers to pout in this scenario so I expect he’ll be ok. Cam
Very helpful! Thank you 😊

Would you recommend the freshwater bath for a sailfin tank that has black spots all over it's body?
Yes, black marks can definitely be an indicator for flukes. As with any fish be very careful as you bath it, however it’s fair to say Sailfins typically tolerate freshwater baths well. Cam
What type of medicine use to Salt water fish quratine period???
It depends on the problem. Whitespot and velvet are the most common problems and we usually use copper, but other diseases require different treatments. Cam
Hello sir are you used methyalene blue medicine for salt water fish quratine period and how it's work???
No, we have never used methylene blue for salt water

Is there any value to treating ich with a freshwater dip as an emergency just to give your fish a chance at pulling through?
In most cases no. Freshwater dips reduce the number of the infective stage, but don’t do anything for cysts (ie spots). I’d argue you’re stressing the fish more than it’s worth in parasite reduction. Cam
I am very scared to do this on my juvenile gem tang.
why would you choose a freshwater bath instead of treating with copper or prazipro?
Why you don’t take the water from the same tank?
The idea is that we are dipping saltwater fish in freshwater to remove parasites. It wouldn’t work if the water wasn’t a different salinity. Cam
There is ich on my Blond naso tang , I make freshwater dipp for 3 minutes and didn't work
Freshwater dips are not for whitespot. Cam
i got a pork puffer with eye cloud can i use tap water for this dip? thx you
It depends on your tap water chemistry but I wouldn’t risk it. Much better to use RO water and buffer up the ph. Cam
Can you use safety stop right after freshwater dip and the fish will be fine?
On the topic of fish, do you guys know of good fish databases with pictures? I've bought either a wrasse or an anthias. Weird thing is it's silver and tan colored, and I can for the life of me not find this guy/gal anywhere...
Does this work for most fish mate?
Yes, but some fish in this hobby suffer from flukes more often than other fish. Cam

Do u use ro water or tap water for treatment
Always RO. Cam
is that bucket all RO water?
RO water with ph buffer. Cam
can i use this method with ich??
Not really. Cam
Happy reefing
Happy Reefing!
omg you cant just rub a fluke off an eyeball!
Krazy Kat Yes you can after a freshwater dip. Cam
