The only issue with setting up a QT tanks is not just space, but it is also for the fact the tank needs to cycle and salt water takes 6 months to establish
Yea if you want a reef tank you should have a permanent QT also. It has come in handy several times in my first year of reefing

The content of the video was on point and valuable. if the entirety of the video is considered then criticism would be hard to drum up.
Just curious, Is there any scientific research to prove your statement that you made in the video where you said that "garlic will boost the fishes immune system". Personally I think this video is missing one very key component. Since we all know there is no reef safe ich medicine or treatment per se, eg 'kick ich', and your title says "how to get rid of ich", you should have showed the exact steps of using proven methods such as copper, 'to get rid if ich' and then salt and peppered your video with the anecdotal stuff like ruby reef and the botanical.. and no method of Tank Transfer Method?? Sorry but this video needs and upgrade : ))))
Garlic is a antiparasitic that is a fact. The main peice all these videos miss is you need to siphon your gravel everyday for the 4 weeks if you leave the fish in. I have a tried and true ick treatment method on my channel

@@cleanbigboystoys wrong and the amount you would need is toxic to the fish. Its not the garlic itself that is an anti parasitic
You missed the best in-tank treatment: a UV sterilizer! I cleared ich in my 180g with a 40w sterilizer. It took a few ich cycles before it was gone, but the parasites were fewer and fewer with each outbreak. The tank remained ich free for a year before I eventually took the system down. It had a bunch of tangs in it, too!
Maybe it wasnt the UV but the fish immune system working against the parasite each outbreak. UV wont kill the parasite, you need 280 mj/cm2 and the commercial UVs dont reach that high
@@Cocomann It was an amazing coincidence then, because I had ich rampant in the tank for months until the instant I installed UV. ;) Sure it's probably not a 100% kill rate, but over time not enough individuals lived to sustain the culture... it's a numbers game. At least that was my experience.
@@mnelson10000 empiric experience, therefore not reliable as "the best in-tank treatment". good for you that you could "erradicate" such problem, still didnt make it past one year. cheers.
@@Cocomann Not sure why you put "erradicate" in quotes when I didn't use that word, but I did manage to eradicate it. The tank only ran another year because I moved, but I appreciate your concern. Cheer to you too, brother!
I second the UV sterilizer. The key is to oversize and go with a low flow rate. I have a 36w rated for 200gals on my 75 and set it to the lowest recommended flow rate. Also got rid of any visible ich AND in a couple of weeks eliminated all patches of nuisance algae in my tank. No it won’t permanently kill anything, just prevent it from multiplying to dangerous numbers.
Kick ich does not work I used two big bottles in a 120 gallon shut down sump completely went strictly by instructions and on days to dose I added same time at 9pm one measuring cup is 8oz I put in a cup and a little more then a half. Did it for a month and the cost of this stuff , and it failed. Not catching fish for quarantine but having a time catching the blue tang.
Only thing that completely kill ick is heating the tank to 90 that's my method and works and kills it all
for how long. does this not affect your corals
@@ayshika I don't use corals if your fish can handle it which most can handle the heat I would recommend 10 days at 90 then slowly go back to where you keep it I had my tank up to as high as 93 and fish were fine

This is one of the most "professional looking" video on marine Ich, but with the WORST info. Everything you said is so wishy washy. The worst part... the emphasis of using immune system to beat Ich.

Can i direct it on my tank?
You can add copper directly into your tank but, if you ever plan on adding corals or inverts into your system, it will be very difficult to remove any leftover copper.

I’m treating ick in my display tank I have invertebrates so I pick a reef safe medication I start 3 days ago my blue tang is ok but no great yet I’m trying to be patient but is hard while I’m dealing with this a noticed that one of my fish is no eating a Cream angel like a week ago and I haven’t see her eat + her eyes are cloudy my water is good I tried different food, I’m putting vitamins to the water but nothing. I brought Metroplex with Focus because in my research said could be parasites but I can use it if she is no eating? I appreciate a soon help.
I would suggest trying American Marine Selcon, you soak the fish food in it and it helps with fatty acids, vitamins, etc

Does a UV steriliser kill the parasite in its free-swimming stages?
It has to be tuned correctly but yea it can. I found out you have to have a strong enough bulb and turn over enough water to make it effective because it did not work for me

Can you add fish to a tank after a fish died from ich? Like, do I just hope that the next fish has a good immune system?
No you wait 6-8 weeks running the tank fallow (with no fish) and the parasite will die off without any hosts (fish) within this time.

@@irecon-_516 no it can survive for up to 8 weeks without fish host otherwise it dies it does not use coral hosts
Edit: can confirm as I just treated my 65 gallon reef for ich I had to remove all the fish into quarantine with copper for 8 weeks and haven't had any problems since adding them back to the tank. The parasite simply does not live without fish to host them.

Way too much anecdotal, unproven, and assumptive commentary for this to have come from you guys at MD. Should’ve just stuck to the facts that we already know about ich and it’s life cycle. Sorry guys, but I think you missed the mark with this one.
In my experience when you use cupermine you risking the life of your fish iv have 4 die on me before and I was using half the recommended dose. For me the only thing I have found to work is adding ginger in there food. I did this by feeding them twice a day with ginger for a week after that all ich was gone and the fish are healthy not a one has died nore have I lost any coral. Call me crazy but it worked great for me.

So if I remove all fish and treat with copper and afterwards transfer to a non copper qt tank will the ich die in the display after a couple months?
Keep the display fallow for at least 72 days(the longest officially recorded ich life cycle) . Fallow tank is fishless. Marine ich can only attach to fish non corals or inverts. Fish no fish to host it will die off

Hyposalinity IS the truly only way to be success at eradicating Ich. I know, because I done it before in a reef tank full of fish and fishes were dying left and right. Until I setup a quarantine tank and put all the fishes in, even the very sick. The result, I saved all the fishes and after 3 months, I put all the fishes back into my tank. I haven't had any problem for over 12 years.
Yeah best bet take all fish from tank then use copper in empty tank for 3 weeks anything else is more work for nothing
The problem with this video is that Ich doesn't care what you feed your fish. If ich is in your tank it will eventually take over and kill all your fish. Simple as that.

Nooooo that will kill everything including some delicate fish.. never use cupramine in your reef tank. EVER!
