Why aren't you wearing gloves? EDIT: After researching, I found out that you should NOT wear gloves when using metalworking machines because it is severely dangerous and should be avoided due to the risk of entanglement. So in case anyone else was wondering, that's why he isn't wearing gloves!
@@FuZe. focus edited the original comment, I'm assuming after getting told that it would be stupid to wear a glove while operating this type of machinery
im a machinist and i wear gloves. not leather gloves but nitrile gloves. keeps all the chemicals off my hands. the oils and solvents and such. and it helps somewhat against metal shards sticking into your hands with a little barrier. it may not be much but it helps. PPE should be specked to your needs.
I think it's better to feel the vibrations of the cutting through your fingers, allows better handling when manually working a piece. Nitrile gloves are fine, some like to use them and some don't, but I think they aren't really necessary until cleaning up the tray and working area, in short, when actually having to be in contact with those razor sharp chips and strips.
Well, it's said that the Lathe is a machine that can reproduce itself. You can even machine flat surfaces like the bed on it. Apparently David J. Gingery has done that in the past. After all, all the machines have to be made somehow.
That's quite good for a plain manual lathe. I use a semi-cnc lathe,so I can cut at angles and radii I choose, so it'd be 99% accurate on there, but doing it that way is very good and the finish is great
If anyone wondering you can also copy a key doing this, easy way to make spare keys for yourself, can also make a small business in your neighborhood making spare keys verry easy
Man! U rock! U r awsome! Vid by vid I watch from you my chin goes lower and lower... U r my favourite publisher to watch when I am waiting for anything... u know that??
I do hope you're joking. It's because you're removing moisture from it which makes it less malleable(for want of a better word) The same thing happens to just about anything you remove moisture from. For this reason, steam cooking is the best way to avoid the problem you mentioned.
Neat, but it can't beat a tracer attachment for its ability to work with 2D shapes. I believe miniature units for small lathes exist out there for purchase. Worth looking in to one.
Very nice work! The replacement handles really look great, a big step up from the plastic ones. Would be kind of cool to anodize the new handles since they’re made out of aluminum, maybe a yellow or deep blue color?
Really nice job, I was thinking about RC cars and things like that, than I got idea, do RC car engine, but look like real car engine, only 2 pistons -Tin
RUclips recommendations: wanna see someone make an iron ball?
Me:Sure
🤣🤣🤣 so true
Accurate 😂
its not iron....

Using a lathe to make upgrades to your lathe, nice.

Yeah. Also, precision.
noo, gloves are not used in this type of machines because if the glove gets stuck, you can tear off all your fingers.

Can you tell we where you got the indexing plate behind the chuck of your lathe? I like it!
Oh, look who it is
Now I'm suspicious.
oh wow
Hmmm. You made a replacement ball thing for your lathe handles.
Maybe take this to the extreme and make an entire new lathe using this lathe :P
kind of like 3d printing a 3d printer ;D
Now that is an idea to play with. ;-)

Mr Rishi The Cookie Where can I get a lathe like this?
Yo dawg I heard you like lathe
I'm a first student at a university in VietNam. My major is mechanical engineering.
Hoàng Hiệp what’s the name of that machine?
I've seen people do a lot of crazy and interesting things but this is the first time I've ever seen a man machine himself a new set of balls.
so on every episode you're going to produce more and more parts to build the exacy copy of the whole machine that you work with : P

Wow this actually gave me the idea of 3d printing something first then copy it to aluminum, especially parts that just have to "look good", thank you.
This video is just a load of balls. They do give much nicer tactile feel compared to a plain lever, me gusta.
If you don't have a truck you go with lathe nuts. Short and to the point vid, nice!
Out of all the ways I’ve seen spheres cut on a lathe, this is by far the most original. Well done 👍

Well. I just figured out how to make some caps for a 1800s safe. Thank you sir. I was going to cast. But now I'll make them solid
Make sure to avoid that spinny wheel of death
Awesome technique!

Scrap wood City Where can I get a lathe like this?
I’ve used a lathe before it’s so satisfying
Same here, I miss my engineering classes in high school (if i ignore the really shit teqcher)
Lmaoooo
At last-, I have today learned something from RUclips.
And can be used for other shapes too.
Well done.👍

really liked how subtle the music was. It's a nice touch.
My workshop is where we have kinda cold. I do prefer plastic ones. When i came back to work early I don't need to wear some thick gloves 😃
But thumbs up!!
The guy lives in Texas and I think the cold is not a problem he should to worry about. Perhaps the rain, but not the cold.
Never wear gloves when using the lathe
Alessio Suppo
This is why i use plastic ones
great idea! just saved me from buying a radius attachment!! and why I should keep the original 4way tool post just for jobs like this
If anyone wondering you can also copy a key doing this, easy way to make spare keys for yourself, can also make a small business in your neighborhood making spare keys verry easy
You can x y step a radius on perfectly also. Use cad to figure out the moves.
Когда ты хороший токарь, то станок становится спокойно перебираемой и ремонтируемой машиной,)) 😁
This reminds me of a process I saw a lock smith in my town use to make a copy of a key for me.
That's cool. Looks like a good way to duplicate knobs. Like when you are missing one on a dresser or whatever.
3 door knobs yeah.

holy shit, a drum beat goes really well behind the sound of a lathe

Glad you published your art. I was looking for that idea. Long live you. Thank you. Thanks Johnny
Saves making a ball turning attachment i guess, very good if ball turning is not something you do much of.
nice work, this took some serious balls. (haha i'm so original)

Nice, elegant and sleek AF.
You are literally the only person i know, which is cutting the thread before making a chamfer :)
siXtreme I do tread > camfer >tread
siXtreme on a lathe you dont need a camfer, but why he makes it after?..
Good call
Drywall sanding sponge, great usage for smooth enough polishes.

That manual technique is awesome, im studying this too and im not even able to make that finish

Very cool. I used this technique before I got CNC lathes. They take care of a lot of finish and polish work

Many projects are easier to make when you have a lathe.

this week on pimp my lathe pmsl.
i always enjoy watching your vids johnny, most of them are fascinating
You need some medium strength thread locker for those
you can make shift knobs for cars on a lathe and sell them for decent money
You should do something with an RC Wankel engine
cool idea never seen it done this way

Thx for this video. I'm trying to use a 3D print as a blueprint to copy it into metal.
Nice balls like key cutting all the best from the UK 🇬🇧

I miss doing this type of stuff

Nice tracing idea
just care that not to replace insulator knob to matal one, they may designed for safety purpose
I’d like one of those for a shift knob!
Nice touch on giving them a use
Why did I just watch someone make a ball
Because youtube...
Because it has 10m views

Use a cnc lathe and sinterized inserts you"ll get better.
No shit man that's numerically controlled this is done by a person but it's more fun to watch someone manually do it
Wow. You got some balls
Wow you created a pair of matching balls
that's rare
sweet! yeah gotta love the sorts of things you can do on a lathe.
