America needs to help small farmers instead of these gigantic corporations.
These corporations would be so large if small farmers had not sold out to them over the decades. Its a joint effort of small farmers selling out and large corporations buy it up. Similar to what we are currently seeing in housing. Home owners selling and large corporations and equity firms buying it up.
@damham5689 Many of those small farmer families had to sell out because the death taxes made the situation impossible. Government guided that.
@@damham5689 From a farming family here...We had to create a family trust to ensure the land stays w the family. No one's looking to buy much land in rural south MS,though,...yet.

As a former food plant mechanic, I can tell you in most cases the companies find it cheaper to pay the fines than to responsibly. Remove the contaminants from their site. On a personal note I think it’s designed that way on purpose so more people can get their kickbacks. ☮️🇺🇸

I was looking for a place to fish... and found this information a month ago, but it is definitely not just Tyson. It is odd, to me, because, when I butcher my own animals, I have raised, I don't have toxic waste.... I clean everything, but, if I had toxic waste from the food, I don't think I would want to eat that food... or even be around it. It is sad.... and we need to do something different. Hundreds of years ago, villagers would work together to have enough food for everyone... and no toxic waste....
I was thinking the same thing why is there a need for so many chemicals? Scalding hot water to clean the birds should do it. Now of course they probably do have to clean their machinery but again hot water and Dawn dish soap would really do the job versus so many much more harmful chemicals. Anna In Ohio
Large parts of the "green new deal" etc, from ms aoc, are based around kicking supplys down to local level. Not even regional. Food for thought.

They need to be fined out of business and return to the smaller company they destroyed.
The reason for finally going public is to fine the company and split it up between government officials. The fine will be laundered and distributed. Why wasn't it stopped immediately if it's true?

They should be ineligible for any further government subsidies and fully responsible for the clean up.
Fines are cheaper than having to adhere to rules.
One word, kickbacks...
They need to be held accountable for this!!!
Learned it from DuPont
Well that's not anything new, there's a few further processing plants in the cities I grew up in that have a large drainage ditch that drains straight into the Arkansas River, been doing that for several year's and Tyson is one of them, I thought everyone knew, all they have to do is pay a fine every year, and it's all good, the epa really don't care as much as people think they do, unless of course, you have a small business or have anything in your personal yard they don't like.
They dismantled the EPA in 2017 or 2019. Biden put it back together, but the damage is done. The coal miners have been putting their toxic waste back into the mines and filling them with water without lining the reservoirs and pouring waste into the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, endangering millions of people, since 2017. Now all of the little towns around the Appalachian Mountains are sick or dying.

The real problem is that these corporations can become such huge conglomerates owning soooo many brands that nearly 90% of the food at the grocery store is owned by 5 corporations. And if you break it down by type of products, or by aisle. Then everything in that aisle is owned by 2 corporations. And maybe 1 or 2 local things if your lucky.

I had a rooster that came from a local Tyson plant last year. My friend brought a bunch of baby chicks & when they were still growing their feathers in, they had a strange multi-colored hue in their fuzz. I'm talking pastel purple, green and orange. I let them grow a bit and gave all but one away. This rooster grew into a massive, pure muscle behemoth within months, and as expected he had birth defects like an overgrown right chest pec. He eventually passed from having a heart attack one day, just fell out and died. At his oldest he weighed somewhere around 20-25 pounds, honestly it felt like more.

@@nitromartini1422 - you don’t know what I think
Yup, no wonder they are pushing to end suburbs and rural independent farms, and make people move into apartments, move into the city, where you have no land to plant anything or grow your own food. When you live in an apartment or just about anywhere in a city, you become nearly 100% dependent on a corporation to provide you your food and materials to live. I'm not saying suburbs are perfect or ideal either....but at LEAST they can grow a garden in their backyard!!!! Another interesting thing about modern suburbs, is how they cut down whole entire forests and prairies just to build them, even though it is not entirely necessary. They lay the suburbs out in a certain way that is terrible for the environment. So people could never really hunt or gather in their neighborhood.
Ideally, compared to say, the Pacific Northwest, a lot of the old (and even new) neighborhoods were built IN the forest 🌲, only removing the trees that absolutely needed to be removed and kept as much of the forest in tact as they good. This meant everyone has their own little slice of forest which is 100s of years old, they can harvest firewood, mushrooms, hunt animals etc.
I think a better way to design a neighborhood is to do a micro neighborhood on a big plot of land, with some field and forest, and put all the houses near each other in one spot or a few spots on the land. Then give everyone access to that land or certain sections of it. Then that small community of 5 to 10 houses can work together growing their own gardens, or raising chickens and livestock, and going hunting and providing meat for the whole neighborhood. This is kinda how little towns used to operate 100-200 years ago.
They want people to become completely helpless to themselves and dependent on corporations, because the companies will become significantly more profitable and rich that way. Just as the industrialization & urbanization of society has shown.
There is a delicate balance between urbanization & ruralization.
I think a better way to design a neighborhood is like the eastern European or Russian "Dacha system". Basically do a micro neighborhood on a big plot of land, with some field and forest, and put all the houses near each other in one spot or a few spots on the land. Then give everyone access to that land or certain sections of it. Then that small community of 5 to 10 houses can work together growing their own gardens, or raising chickens and livestock, and going hunting and providing meat for the whole neighborhood. This is kinda how little towns used to operate 100-200 years ago.
That option is very similar to the eastern european or Russian Dacha system, which is our other option. This is HOW people survived in the Soviet Union days during food shortages. This what Russia still does, and Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Baltics, even Poland. People live in those big commublock apartments, BUT during the Soviet Union, everyone was given a "Dacha" (meaning vacation house or summer house) but it is NOT a typical American vacation house. It is actually a small rustic cabin out in a rural area. There will be small little neighborhoods of a dozen tiny dachas, each with a long plot of land to grow their own food. Store things, raise animals etc.
This is how people survived in the Soviet Union during food shortages, practically EVERYONE had a Dacha, and they grew their own food, potatoes 🥔, carrots 🥕 , wheat 🌾, beans 🫘, etc. every summer. On the weekends they leave their apartments in town and go out to their Dacha, and it is like a nice little get away, and they tend to their gardens and enjoy the peace of nature. And when the weekend is over, they go back to their apartments in town for the work week.
I think America would benefit extremely well from a "Dacha" culture. Only problem is, the corporations own the vast majority of land now. And no developer would want to build a "Dacha neighborhood" because they are cheap, tiny and NOT profitable enough for their greedy pockets, when they could instead build a golf course or new luxury apartment complex instead. Why build a dozen small rustic cabins on a big plot of land, when you can use all of the land to build 2,000+ apartments instead and make millions? This is what the buisness men think.
This should include jail time

I worked at a Tyson facility in Noel, Missouri. The small town was known as a floating location and camping spot in the summer. The factory I worked at was where the guts got removed. They would also cut the chicken into filets. Anyways there was a giant tank that the guts went into. This thing has SEVERAL large cracks around the side that leaked constantly. I think about it almost everyday. That tank probably leaked several hundred gallons of waste into the ecosystem everyday. The cracks would run about a quarter of the way across the 40 or 50 ft structure. Gross. It was a sickly gray color.
